  1. Thanks guys! I am now 2 weeks post op and still struggling. I will give your suggestions a try! On a happy note I am not putting the weight I lost back on and actually have continued to lose weight! I have my first band on 4th June. I just hope I am better at this once the band has been filled!

    Sleep Study Tonight

I have my second sleep study tonight. Yes, I said my second. I did one last year and did one at home about 4 or 5 months ago. Yet, I have to do it again. I'm not looking forward to it. I don't like sleeping somewhere besides my own bed and the fact that my two teen age children will be alone for the night doesn't really do anything to help matters. Oh, well. It's just another step in the process I guess. I realized something today. Its been about 2 weeks of the high protein, low fat, low carb diet and while eating dinner i ate the protein, then some vegetable and took maybe two bites of the scalloped potatoes ( which i would normally pig out on) and said "I'm full yet again!). Proud of myself for not eating everything that was in front of me. It's taking time but the way I eat is changing. My daughter, who will be 16 in August said it looks like I am already loosing weight. I have no idea as I haven't been weighed in a week. I hate the scale. It is NOT my friend but one day will be! I am eating my small meals as told. I now eat breakfast, something I haven't done in years and snack on string cheese, yogurt,or peanut butter. Baby steps... and I will succeed!

:help: Hi All, I was banded on May 24th and have lost 13lbs. I have not have a fill yet but think that I need one since I can eat almost everything. I have not gotten sick and am a little worried that I can eat what ever I want. Has this happened to any of you? I have a doctors appt on July 7th and I will make sure to inform my doc about this. Is this normal ? I want to loose weight not gain. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks
  5. yes debbe i have had thyroid checked and had full blood tests . just waiting to see what the dr is going to do next month as im m on the list for a redo, x-rays show no changes so im not sure if there is any point in having a redo. i see the excersize physiologist on monday and a dietician/nutritionist the week after so hopefully between them we can sort out something and get this weight comming of again. ive been walking with my younger sister every day and taking my two younger kids out for a walk while they ride their scooters. maybe getting in a lot more excersize will start the loss again .. i can only keep trying ...

Thank you for clarifying this. I was unaware there was a difference. "...Rubbing his belly for luck". Damn, if I knew this when I was at my peak obesity weight, I could have charged people to rub my belly for luck and made a few bucks.

    Looking for support!

The time goes so fast, I didn't tell anyone until I was about four months in, people have said the same to me, I can train you or my favorite is, you don't look like you need to lose that much weight, you could just work out harder. I've done EVERY diet out there, I do well then I quit and gain back double, this is a tool I need to help me make the lifestyle changes I need.

    Did It Work?

Hello! I'm Miriam, this is my first time joining anything like this. Please go easy. I had the gastric sleeve surgery 9/9/19. I was 278lbs at 5'4''... today, 258.4lbs. So I'm about a month post op. At first I could tell the surgery had effected my appetite and could only eat soft, small portions. Today, I can eat a 14 oz steak with sides if I allowed myself! I'm always hungry again! I'm so disappointed in myself for going right back to my old ways of thinking of food. Is it possible that this surgery only worked temporarily? My NP for my surgeon said that I should be losing a pound a day. Any feedback would be appreciated! Is this stagnant weight normal?
  9. hi there, Need some advice/guidance/suggestions from fellow bandsters. I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow. I lost about 8 pounds during the liquid post op phase and have only lost 2 more pounds since. I've had two fills so far and both of them don't seem to provide me much restriction. The most recent one was 8 days ago. I think I have about 4cc's total. I called again this morning to make another appointment as yesterday as I ate a hamburger - bread and all - with no problem I realized this just can't be adequate restriction (can it?). And I want to start losing weight! Soon after making my appt for this Saturday, my husband and I went out to lunch at Sharky's. I was good and got a power (protein) plate..thinking it was a healthier choice. I had only had an nonfat iced blended coffee this morning so this was my first "meal" of the day. I took small bites...but suddenly, I got pain in my chest. It was my second stuck episode and I was in public. Worse, there was only a single bathroom so I could not wait it out without drawing serious attention to myself. I quickly left the restaurant and spent nearly the next 45 minutes PB'ing in a cup next to poor DH in his car, during my work lunch hour. I must of PB'd 8-10 times before I felt better. My first stuck episode was in the AM, 3 weeks post op...I had bread. I think I deserved it, or at least is was explainable. But the small bites of steak (which I have regularly)? So what I am wondering is how can I feel no restriction, eat a burger, and then get stuck on a little bite of meat the very next day. After being stuck, I wanted to drive straight to the ER and remove my band. And now I feel fine, apprehensive to eat, but I keep burping the taste of the whole stuck episode. I never want to experience it again but sadly, I think that it's eminent. ..right? Please please share with me your tricks, if you have any, to: 1. Avoid getting stuck 2. Recognizing when you are stuck 3. Making the pain more bearable 4. Tricks/tips to make an episode pass faster? 5. Do you pros still get stuck? 6. Do you taste the PB for the rest of the day? 7. How many fills did you have before you felt good restriction? 8. Does getting stuck mean I do have adequate restriction?? I sure hope not cuz my scale isn't moving much... 9. Should I now not get a fill? I felt restriction during the 2 days liquids and then once I introduced food again, it was like GONE. Sorry for my rant/raving/ and multiple questions. Any advice and tips would be appreciated.

    Impossible???

Yessssssssssssss!!!! It is VERY Possible!! As Tiff said I have lost 172 pounds in a year. I am not at "goal".. which is 160. I got to figureing out that I lost 191 pounds from my highest weight of 373... but I use my "day of surgery" weight of 354. I NEVER dreamed I would have lost that much weight... I just knew I had to do something. And it turned out to be the BEST thing I have ever done for myself!! So yes....... it is very obtainable!!

    Your booty!

My backside left a couple of years ago but I have built it up with heavy glute workouts. As others have mentioned, weighted squats are great along with hip bridges and the Roman chair. Given that pre-op my backside was my largest area, I will always look deflated without clothes on unless I have my excess skin removed. However when dressed, my overall shape is good, my backside is proportionate to the rest of me. Your outcome will vary based on how much you lose, where you carry your weight and what type of exercise you do.

    Weight issues

Good morning..so I am 17 pre opp..and I haven't lost weight ..I fluctuate between 13 to 16 pounds loss..I have not gone to restroom in about close to 1 week, but I feel no discomfort..is this normal? Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Hi I had my op 3 weeks ago. I lost 5kg in my pre op so was over the moon and in the first week of the op lost another 6kg, but for the last 10 days the weight has fluctuated up and down by .5kg. I am following everything. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much? It feels a bit disheartening
  14. Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not the only one. I am going to try and just weigh once a week so the scale doesn't drive me so crazy. I know I am still recovering...just want to make sure I have some good results before seeing my Dr. I was disappointed that I wasn't seeing her until 7 weeks after, but now I am glad. I decided to start working out on my elliptical while my son naps. Going to make myself a chart today to keep track of my workouts and weight loss to keep me motivated to make the right choices.
  15. Try upping the calories a bit! I lost 14lbs 3 days before surgery, then 7lbs the next week, then only 3lbs the next week and was frustrated. Sometimes our bodies can go into "starvation/shock" mode and hold on to everything thinking it is never getting more calories again or for a while. I talked to my nutritionist and she said to try upping my calories a bit to 1000-1400 a day and it has worked wonders! I have been dropping more weight since... Also, it is super normal to feel hungrier now that the post surgery feeling is going away. I am personally struggling with that now because I was supposed to have my first fill last week but due to a incision infection it has been put off until this thursday. Stay strong lady! Also, try to only weight yourself on one day a week, in the morning, naked. I used to get on the scale every other day and I made myself crazy! Our weight fluctuates daily depending on if we have gone to the bathroom or drank alot of water or where we are in our cycles etc... If you stick to one day a week you won't stress out as much! Good luck and keep up the good work... be strong lady!

    Henderson support group...trying again

I wasnt digging at anybody. If you read the message clearly I stated that those of you that want to have a group that socializes at luncheons or dinners, that may be your thing. I just want a group that meets and discusses things on their journeys to losing weight. Some people CANT handle having food in front of them. Because I asked to have those interested to private message me, its an issue?? Sorry that bothers you or anyone else from the group that I originally tried to start. I dont want to fight about this, it isnt worth it. Good luck on your journeys!! Fran

So no nothing's easy about this path

I Agree With Sarahmizzou About The Whole "waiting For A Year Thing", By The Time I Pay All Them Co-pays And Everthing They Want Me To Try, I've Probably Gained More Weight And Spent My Lapband Money! And Yeah That Lane Bryant Does Help Me Save Either!!!!
  19. may i add a couple more, . . . embarrassment profuse sweating when its cool outside Wait until you slip up a bit and gain 21 lbs like I did because of stupidity. . then having to lose it. . . want to talk about easy? It's everything but easy! Actually once you gain weight, it's just as hard to lose as if you never had the sleeve if not harder. . . .
  20. :wub:I am 18 days postop. I am so grateful for the surgery and also the removal of a hematoma that was a complication from a previous surgery ( the hematome, about the size of a baseball) I have lost 12.5 pounds since the day before surgery. I am eating about 1100 to 1400 calories. This may sound like alot to some but I know if I eat less than that my body thinks it is starving and holds on to the weight. I excercised to "Zumba" today for a full 20 minutes. It is a totally fun latin dance excercise dvd. I felt I hit a mini goal. I am hopeful for 1.5 to 2 lbs a week on average. If I loose 6 lbs a month I will be at my goal by my band aniversary date. My first goal will be 170 and my second goal will be 140. I don't want to loose too quickly. I have seen people loose too quickly and they look horrible and unhealthy. Eating a balance of fats, carbs and protiens will keep my hair and skin healthy. Being over 50 that is so important to not let the weightloss age me anymore than I already am. My restriction is very comfortable right now. I am about 3 cc's and I go for a fill in 1 week. I am not sure I want too much of a fill I will need. My attitude is this band is a tool. I will not look at it as a "cure". I am grateful I can sit down with a small meal and not be hungry afterwards. Wow! that is awesome. One of the main things that has helped is not eating until I am physically hungry. I am finding other activities when I have head hunger or deal with the root of the head hunger. That is such an important difference than before. Well that is all for now!:rolleyes2: Best wishes for all on this journey! Lee Anne

you have just gone through a major organ surgery... just follow the diet plan your NUT & Doc put in place for you... everyone goes through some kind of stall or period of time without weight loss... your body just has to catch up... it will happen... just make sure you are getting in your Water & Protein every day and start walking. Good Luck!!!

    Its A Whole New World

CONGRATS! This is one of the best choices you can make for you and your family. Yes, it is hard to give up our cloths when we lose the weight because our negative thinking goes back to: I'm going to fail this time and need this size later. Well guess what? That is called Steeken thinking! You are going to learn what are your triggers to eating unhealthy foods, and yes it will be painful at times, and learn the coping skills to stay away for old negative triggers so you can benefit from having your new tool, "the Sleeve." Welcome to the Big Loser's CLub! This is the greatest support group ever!

    Waiting for Monday

Thank you for the PM's and the guidance. I will continue to be in touch! All I can think about is talking to my PCP on Monday to find out about my out of network pre-cert that she has to give me to see my doctor (Robert Pinnar in Reston, VA). I am so tired of the struggle! I have done every diet that you can think of, every weight loss plan that you can join, and even had a botched liposuction, only to end up STILL needing something that fits into my life and works for me!!! I am assuming that once the pre-cert is done my surgeons office is who will submit my medical records and weight loss attempts to Aetna for approval. My PCP is fairly new to practicing and not very knowledgable about all that this is required or could arise. I really feel like this is my last hope to get my weight under control before I do develop serious health problems. My blood pressure is "elevated" but not what doctors consider high. My cholesterol is 2 points over what doctors consider high. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy, which makes me a likely candidate for diabetes, but I am not diabetic now, I am borderline with most co-morbidities and I am just praying that I don't have to become "sick" or have to be on daily medications to control certain illnesses before I can qualify to better my quality of life. *sigh* To Be or Not To Be...continued...

Badger, best of luck to you! Research, research, research -- the type of weight loss surgery that you want, the surgeon, your aftercare. You just can't check it out enough! The Lapband will not affect your food absorption quality at all. The Lapband and RNY are totally different. Please be sure that you are well informed before making any final decisions. Good luck!

    Looking for support!

Exactly! I wont be telling anyone else until closer to if not when I get to the acceptance stage with the insurance. I've made up my mind and some people just think its easy. It took me two years to lose 60lbs. And then a little over a year i gained it back plus 40 for a total of 100! It irritates me how much weight I've lost through the years. I'm SO glad you said the time goes by fast! That makes me feel so much better!
