    My surgery is Friday

You are going to be fine! Your surgeon I am sure has done many lap bands and nothing is being cut on just added. ( : your emotions are normal, we have all had them. I am a nurse and went back to work in 10 days and have done just fine. As far as the pain goes its not bad, I'm sure your c/s was worse. Just remember to walk as soon as possible to break up the gas. Good luck!!! Very excited for u!!!
  4. Oh yeah, my NUT wasn't terribly effective. I had to lose 10 pounds and it was really hard to lose. I'd go to the nutrition appointment and she'd say, "Well, you're down another pound, so it's going in the right direction. Are you chewing everything completely? Are you making meals last 30 minutes? Are you exercising on schedule? You're doing everything right, so just hang in there." Yup, I paid for that advice 4 times. No diet advice, no suggestions on how to change the exercise routine, etc. She's a nice person, but it's also hard to look at someone who is 5'10", weighs probably 135 lbs., and think of her as some sort of support person on this journey. I finally started losing weight when I went onto strict Adkins induction. I've lost quite a bit, but losing those first 10 took about 12 weeks!
  5. Ok so I finished all the pre op stuff and the doctors office called and said the they got the insurance approval and I meet with the doctor on April 19! How soon afterward do you usually have surgery! ?

    A little discouraged

I had a stomach virus for 4 days and I lost 10 pounds. Only crackers and water helped me survive. Now I can eat again and I have gained back 8 of the 10 pounds. I hate it because I was so glad I had lost that much weight. Other banders have said they never gain weight with lap band so I'm just kinda upset that I have.

    Looking for friends/support

Hi Megan, Lisa and Mom! I am also a newbie to WLS. I probably won't have mine done until January. My insurance requires 3 mos of nutritional counseling. I don't have the first one until 10/2. I joined BP because I needed all the information I could find on the sleeve. Pre-op, post-op, and after a year on what to expect, what people are eating, and just for support as well! Feel free to add me as a friend as we go on this journey together, sharing stories, fears and successes! Just call me Kat! Good luck to you guy's!

Tight band in the morning - what to eat

For me in the mornings I would have a couple of cups of coffee, and then around 10 am I was able to eat something it would be a protein bar. I find they are soft enough to not get stuck and they are thick enough to stimulate the band get you chewing and fill you up.

Drugs - What am I doing to my body?

Beachee Girl, I think it was really brave to share everything that you are going through. In January I found out that my husband is a drug addict. I had no clue. We have been married for almost 10 years and have two beautiful children and the devastation that addiction has on families shred ours to pieces. I was shocked that I had been living what felt like a lie for almost a decade and was beyond hurt and confused. Then I picked myself up, we are currently separated, and decided I wasn't the one that had to choose differently when it came to the drugs. But his addiction put my own stuff into perspective. My weight was out of control and I desparately needed to address all the issues that surrounded my obesity. So, I got my band and realized really quickly that it didn't all end with that quick trip to a surgeon. It was only days into my post-op that I realized that all of the head issues I was feeling in regards to food must be really similiar to what my husband went through fighting himself about the drugs daily. Wanting something that isn't healthy for us, trying to talk your way through it, having a pity party because you know its wrong, all showing just how controlled we can be by addiction. In that moment of awareness, God really touched my heart and I realized "But for the grace of God go I". I guess what I am trying to say is that God sees our weaknesses and He will give you the strength to continue a good fight when you allow Him to be in control of your life. I am not trying to be overly spiritual. I just really felt that you needed to know that you are loved and supported, and you can beat this. Other people all around you battle stuff too, we all have vices and I think you were really brave (even in the anonimity of this place) to share what you are going through. Take care of you, and I'll say a prayer for you just to get through today...cuz that's all you have to worry about today.

    upcoming doc visit

10 more days till surgery. I have to see my surgeon tomorrow and I don't know why I'm really nervous. I have a sense of impending doom. I'm afraid the doc will cancell the surgery for some reason. :w00t:
  12. I knew this day was coming. My daughter sells the Cookies. She's been a scout for 10 years now. I've always taken them to work, to sell to coworkers. In prior years, I could easily put away a whole box of cookies in one sitting. Now that I'm sleeved, I think I'll be able to refrain ... but it's going to be hard. Especially when I see my coworkers chomping down on THIN MINTS.... Lord give me strength!

    Cooking for a family

I have three boys - ages 10, 4 and 2 - as well as my husband. I cook for them every night and I was also concerned about losing this expression of love. If anything, I'm more committed to cooking for them almost every night than I was pre-op. I make healthy choices for them...and I make their favorites - not necessarily things i can easily eat. I have no problem making food without tasting as I go. Once you're post-op a little bit, you'll see that you will be able to have a bite here or there but you probably won't WANT to have more than that.
  14. I just got my 2nd fill yesterday... got 3 ccs in my VG band (10 or 11 ccs I think) last week and had NO restriction... but had to have a fluro to get to my port as it was deep and hard to get to... but with this second fill... they didn't have any problem getting it... got another 3 ccs yesterday and feel LOTS of restriction... considering going back tomorrow for a slight unfil of about a 1/2 cc... but tonight when I ate a side order of refried Beans and cheese, I ate slow and tiny and it went down without problems... so I think I may wait it out a little while.... I still haven't PB's or slimed since surgery... so maybe what I am just feeling is good restriction... was a little uncomfortable to drink last night or today, but maybe that was just due to swelling.... I will try instant oatmeal for Breakfast and canned chicken for lunch.... So I don't know if I am at my "sweet spot" or not yet, but at least I have restriction so I am close!~... I hope! 15. I was banded on July 25. My doctor and the paper he sent home said no more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. some docs may say different but those were my instructions.

Help! Need advise on son's band.

Does he like any kind of juice? I poured the Isopure Fruit Punch over crushed ice with some cranberry juice. It helped the taste and texture. Some people just can't stand that texture. (oops, I didn't notice that he will drink the isopure! That's good! It's good Protein and he really doesn't need anything else at this point.) Have you tried some of the slimfast Low Carbs drinks or the Atkins? I'd take him to the store and tell him to find stuff that he'll drink. Allow him to drink anything he wants. At this point, the important thing is that he heals and allows the band to set properly around his stomach. Tell him that calories don't matter at this point, because they truly do not. It's more important to stick with the liquids and allow healing. He's 19 years old and he is now banded. He's going to have to start being responsible for himself and his nutrition. With some guidance from you, I think it will work. But you might have to push him to get serious about finding and trying some other things. Good Luck!

    One Year-today!

One year ago today I was Banded!! So how was my year? Well, I was very very good for about 8-10 months and then I went back to my eating ice cream, too often. I almost always have soft serve but with jimmies(chocolate sprinkles, if you're not from Boston). I was going to the gym (since December, when my husband and I joined) about 4-6 times a week. As the nice weather came, that stopped. We are going today, we are in our workout clothes!! I need to get my s**t together and start over with my new life. My eating has been for the most part great. I love my morning protein shakes. I drink hot tea and iced tea all day and night. I brew my own iced tea, so it's decaf. I enjoy my large salad about 1 hour before my dinner. I have never used salad dressing, so I know I am great in that department. I do eat bread but only in restaurants with really great bread. I do have Chinese food with brown rice and where I usually eat you can get luncheon specials all day and I bring 1/2 of it home for another meal. Use to be I ate the whole plate full and then some more. I also never have fast food. I hate it. I know what you are thinking, a fat person who hates fast food! WOW! If I did any it was maybe french fries (no salt) (hate salt) or a shake and I gave them up and don't miss them at all. My grandsons are mad I won't go to McDonald's with them. Grampie will take them but never Grammie. So as far as my pounds lost, I started my weight loss March, 2012 with replacing breakfast with shakes and lost 26 pounds before my surgery. As of this morning I am down 74 big ones!!! Could it have been more-of course. I am not perfect. It was a few pounds more but the ice cream took care of that and the less moving of the body. I go to the doctor Friday for a fill. I have a 10 band with 3 fills for a total of 1.5 I guess my doctor goes slowly with the fills and I am fine with that. Everyone is different with your loss, eating and working out. Be you and not someone you're not. We do all compare ourselves to everyone, me included. Work towards who you want to be. Have a great day! I will try. Arlene aka "Eye Candy"
  18. Hi Ladies! I'm July7th too! I go in at 10, surgery at Noon. My pre op (2 weeks) starts tomorow - 6/23. And my "last lunch" today was tacos, lol. and a diet coke. Love my diet coke. My pre op consists of no carbs really. 70-80 grams of Protein for the 3 meals. Other than that, crystal lite, Water, boullion, s/f Jello or s/f popsicles. Tho i can also have decaf coffee. I'm excited...well, i'm not excited about this pre op diet, but i am excited that its only 2 weeks away before it all changes for us! Looking forward to all of our successes - please feel free to email or do whatever to share your experiences ! We're on our way!
  19. I'm scheduled for July 7th, 10 A.M., with Dr. Michael Hodge in Johnson City, TN! I too start my pre-op diet on the 27th. It will be really good to have someone with which to compare notes. Have you been to the July 2009 forum? Juniper is compiling a list of all the July surgery dates.
  20. Hi Tracy!! Welcome and congrats on your band!! :bored:) I would say the majority of docs have the patient follow on a diet, but not all. I will have to start a 10-day preop diet on Saturday, no more than 130 to 150 carbs and 50 to 60 grams of Protein a day. Can't wait to see all of our progresses )
  21. I was sleeved on 11/19/14. I feel great. After the surgery regardless what the hospital staff tells you, walking gets rid of the gas! I have never experienced excruciating pain in my life. If I knew just walking would propel the gas, I would have walked earlier. Gas x just consolidates the gas in one area. This is what I've experienced. Congrats! This is a life changing experience and I'm excited for everyone who takes the step to a new you.
  22. So I just wanted some of your options. I have been told at month 9, 10 ish post op rny by my new city's nut that I was eating to much for where I'm at. I was eating about 1 c , a lil more maybe at each meal. It was divided between meat and veg , mostly meat of course. So anyways my breakfast this morning was the following: measured 3.20 Oz of chicken, about 1/4 of a medium apple and about 3 tbls of peanut butter. I was full and normally I don't eat this kind of meal. Normally I don't measure but i wanted to start new because I have fell off the wagon with the holidays and I'm trying to start fresh. Typically I eat 1 egg and 3 pieces of turkey bacon and I'm good. But I'm feeling super guilty about this peanut butter. I seriously love peanut butter and I think I had at least 2 servings maybe 3 this morning which is 200 each. Is this excessive or am I being obsessive? Should I just stick to my typical breakky?

    Help always hungry!

I agree. I always freak out that maybe I can eat too much at this stage. But when I think about it, I ate 6 medium shrimp last night for dinner. That's it, that's all I had room for. No way I could fit in a side of anything. I will sometimes try to wait 10-15 mins to eat some vegetables but I'm usually counting down till I can drink something so that doesn't happen either.

    Surgery June 11th!!

11 hours post op and I am feeling pretty good. Pain at about a 2 on the 1-10 scale. Ice chips are the best! I am so happy to be on this journey!
