    MGB Information

I had lapband to MGB revision in late 2014. It is the best thing you can do, much better than the classic bypass. I am at my ideal weight and lost 112lbs in 16 months.

    Revision Surgery Requirements

I am going through my insurance and they referred me to an Institute of Excellence. My location was incorrect. Im actually in CA. I want to get revision because I had complications with the lap band 3 years ago to a point where I couldnt even drink Water. So I had them release everything from the band and I still have restrictions some time. SInce then I have gained 40 lbs. When I had the lap band I was at 250 and went down to 180 and now Im at 222. Its just not working for me anymore.

    how much can I lose?

I have lost approx. 220 lbs. It isn't easy though. I had to fight hard for every pound after about the 150 lb mark, commit to eating healthy for the rest of my life, and radically revise the way I thought about food and nutrition.
  4. Hi all, thought I'd share my weight loss journey so far. Back in 2004 I weighed 136kg and am 180cm. GP in the UK wouldn't approve SAGB on NHS so I self funded the operation at a hospital in the South of France. Operation went well, weight loss went ok, got down to 90kg. Gradually had complications, slippage and erosion. Weight up to 116kg. Had a revision from band to sleeve in the same operation in Australia 2 years ago (2014) got down to 84kg with the sleeve, sleeve stretched, partly due to poor shape of the sleeve due to the damage done by the band, crept back up to 103kg. So I finally stumped up the courage to go for the full bypass. Had it 2 days ago at a weight of 103kg. Spent 1 day in hospital, discharged this morning at 10am now back at home after spending just 36 hours in hospital. So far so good. Slight pain only 1/10. Came off pain meds already, slight gas pain and pain under left rib area. Tolerating fluids ok. Had 1.5ltr yesterday. Not much appetite. I'm hoping all is going well and will continue to do so. Third time lucky and all that :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I'm going through the process of having a revision surgery. I lost 20 pounds with the lapband but I had complications. My surgeon told me that he can not perform the revision if my BMI was lower than 35. Long story short, I had to gained all my weight back and start from 0 in order to qualify for a revision surgery. I'm at 35.5 BMI right now and I have several health problems. My insurance and surgeon require documented lap-band complications and compliance with follow-up Lapband appointments (for the Lapband removal part), at least 35 BMI and 1 comorbidity, 6 months diet, pschy evaluation, documented active methods of weight loss (gym memberships, etc), 1 surgeon visit and 1 NUT visit. I'm submitting to insurance this week. I'm going to a center of excellence so their requirements are super strict. Every surgeon is different and I hope you can find one that help you through this process, good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Revision Surgery Requirements

Unless you're paying your own way, you'll do better to focus on your insurance plan. Will you say where in NY you're located? And why you're seeking revision? I may need to revise, but have been putting off seeing my surgeon. I had the band done at Columbia UMC.

Nothing to speed up weightloss like divorce

As a formerly divorced person myself I must CONGRATULATE you!!! Sounds like you have lost a lot more than 5 lbs of dead weight. So let me get this straight...you did something to take care of yourself (surgery) and he went out and hooked up with someone else? I am sorry that you have to put up with this kind of treatment from such a cad, but all I can say is that you are better off without him. I suggest that you immediately (within the next 24 hours while he might still be feeling guilty) ask him to sign a separation agreement that includes the maximum amount of child support permitted by law in your state during your separation period. You should also include in this agreement that he will either continue to pay for your and your kids health insurance during the separation period (the kids' should be indefinitely) -OR- if he was not subsidizing their health insurance previously then he should start paying AT LEAST half. Things with the new girlfriend might not be so rosy if he has to meet his responsibilities (his kids). If he refuses to sign you can likely file a petition with the help of a lawyer, and if you cannot afford a lawyer go to legal aid at your nearest law school and/or your state or local (county) government and they will help you. Now go today and clean out any bank accounts that you share and take out the maximum cash advance on any cards in his name, and put the funds in accounts that are solely in yours or in yours and your kids names. This is BEYOND horrendous of course. I recently have been through a VERY painful situation myself. In fact, my ex moved in with my best friend two doors down from me. Whoops, I guess that she wasn't my best friend afterall;-) Now that I have had weight loss surgery I found it VERY hard to cope (because I could not stuff my feelings down with food as I had been for the last 20 years). My recommended readings (kindle and audible combo is my favorite coz I can even listen in the car on the way to work or you can listen with headphones while the kids are watching tv): Getting Past Your Breakup: How to Turn a Devastating Loss into the Best Thing That Ever Happened to You The Journey from Abandonment to Healing: Revised and Updated: Surviving Through and Recovering from the Five Stages That Accompany the Loss of Love It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken: The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy Women Who Love Too Much These books, my therapist, going to OA meetings and bariatric pal really have helped and inspired me so much during what I honestly thought was an unbearable situation. Definitely take the time you need to feel your feelings, cry your eyes out, punch a pillow etc. But do not forget to do what you need to do to take care of yourself and your kids as well. We will all be here to support you still when you need to take a break from kicking butt. Take care of YOU girl! We've all got your back:-)
  10. Hi All, Im new to this forum and site. Im trying to get information on what others went through when they had a revision surgery from Lap-Band to Sleeve. I have an appointment with a doctor this Friday and have called another doctor to schedule a consultation. My main question is whether they made you go through all the requirements again and how long did the process take before you had a surgery date scheduled. In cases where you were denied were you given the reason as to why you were denied. Appreciate the help with this. Thank you.
  11. I've scheduled my sleeve to MGB revision for next month and am trying to gather as much info concerning post op nutrition and the stages as I can, but notice that there is not quite as much info about MGB out there. Is the closest reference the standard bypass? I know my doctor and nutritionist will give me tons of info, but I can't help it and overly research as I wait for my surgery date. I just want to make sure I have everything I need at my house before I leave for surgery. Thanks for any info you can provide
  12. Well here it goes. I had vertical banding years ago and my Dr. never indicated if soda was good or bad. In the beginning I could not because of the small pouch, but as I stretched it out soda was fine. BUT I do think soda did contribute to the stretching and expansion of the pouch, and in turn helped cause the weight gain and other issues I now have. I am having revision to Bypass and already steer clear of soda all together. I learned from B4. FYI: My son recently had the sleeve MLS and even though his Dr did not specifically say no to soda, he cannot handle the gas pain it causes.

    BMI 31-32

This is exactly my story! I'm so glad I found this thread too!. My BMI finally hit 35.2 at the time of the consultation and I have PCOS, diabetes type 2, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety and controlled hypothyroidism. Hopefully, my doctor will submit my paperwork to the insurance tomorrow and I'm so nervous! My surgery is a revision from LapBand. I lost around 30 pounds with it, but I had so many complications that I need to have it removed. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't pay for the revision with my low BMI. So I had to gain all my weight back and start over. I'm so nervous that they would deny me! Prayers are appreciated!

  15. Although several co workers with thee same coverage I have have been approved and have had or will be having surgery shortly I am not able to have ANY bariatric services because many years ago I paid myself for a lp band. The surgeons office I wanted to use will not even allow me to see a doctor to attempt an appeal or do a doctor to doctor call because they do not 'get involved with insurance issues'! I will turn 65 this year, does Medicare cover band to sleeve revisions? how can I find this out?

    Concerned on post day 5

I'm so glad someone asked this. I'm almost 3 weeks out and have no problem drinking and eating (yogurt, refried Beans, ricotta cheese). Granted I've never taken more than 4 or 5 bites (with a baby spoon) but I've yet to have a "full" feeling like some have expressed. I even asked my nurse if the doctor actually created a sleeve at my follow up. She laughed and said oh he did, trust me. I'm doubly concerned because my doctor had a hard time digging my band out (I'm a revision) and he said due to scar tissue, I have an exceptionally small sleeve. I can't get over the nagging feeling of "will I be the first failure?" Thank goodness for the sgb224 post... 95 lbs is AMAZING!!!! I've only lost 12 and am bummed... But hey, the scale is finally moving in the down direction so I'm thrilled I did this. Oh I do have a question though- what does "full" feel like? A cramp? A stuffed feeling? Will I get a warning? Sorry if these questions come across as stupid... I'm a newbie. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Beef, and pork

I will find out soon, but told that dry meats will be difficult to eat, and may cause digestion issues. I was also told that BBQ'g meats will dry them out--OH NO I love BBQ. Maybe with sauces I can continue to eat BBQ. Also, I had vertical sleeve years ago (Having revision in 1 week) and even though I chewed beef well to get past the sleeve, it did make my stomach upset for a few weeks. I think it may be just adjustment.

I'm June 7. Revising from lap-band which was removed on March 16. The process has taken well over a year. It feels a little surreal now that it's really getting close.

    Depressed Help!

I had my band for 4 years after having issues and problems( toxic silicone syndrome) my doctor suggested I remove it and revise to gastric sleeve. The day of surgery I backed out on the sleeve because it's irreversible and I was afraid I would have the same symptoms of the band. I removed the band 3 weeks ago and can't eat much I have been in liquids and mostly protein diet. I keep getting stuck with regular food. I lost around 13 pounds. But I have been so depressed and been having panic attacks with anxiety attacks. Don't know why this is happening it just comes on uncontrollably. My body is reacting so weird. Had this happened to anyone? If so, please give me insight will it go away or what's causing this?
  22. Hi....I just read your post about insurance allowing your revision surgery from band to sleeve, even though your bmi is 29. I am in the same boat. Being a revision excluded you from having to met the original criteria of 35 with comorbidities or 40 without? I have appt May 27 and worried I will be insurance denied. I hope not!

  23. How long have you been having issues and how long have you had your band ? I had no trouble until 6.5 years out then my port flipped and I just became intolerant of it. Constant pain and reflux , vomitting blood was the last straw . I sought help and they did an upper gi which showed everything was fine, I insisted on an egd and it showed ulceration and esophagitis from the band . I requested revision to another bariatric procedure and was denied 3 times before getting it approved. I'm 4 days post op from revising to the rny and I'm glad to be rid of the band. I find it shocking that any Drs still put them in .
