Opinions in Genepro protein powder?
auntiem0502 replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love Genepro! It is medical grade protein. Although it has special instructions so it will dissolve, the serving of 30grams of protein in a tablespoon can't be beat. You can half it to make it last longer. I mix with yogurt, tea, coffee, oatmeal, diet hot chocolate, yams.. I have not tried to mix with cold liquids since with warm you have to make sure to pour over the powder or it just floats to the top and doesn't dissolve. Best price on Amazon $32-$37. I also have Premier shakes from Costco for a quicker option. -
I am 4 days post op. I had the bypass and honestly i feel like the dr. Just cut my stomach but didn't do anything inside. My left incision hurts but the rest are fine. Ive been eating lots of yogurt and Soups. Today though i was CRAVING bread and meat... It didnt help that my husband grilled chicken and potatoes on the grill. I had 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes added skim milk to make it more watery and it was soo good. Yesterday i tried a Protein shake with 1 strawberry and 2 raspberries and it was fine. I am so confused cuz my stomach i guess... Tells me to stop but my mind is saying ur not full yet. So when i had yogurt for Breakfast i ate with my sons baby spoon. I would lick it and put it down, took me 40 min to eat less then half and i was done. Same thing with Jello, now i have open containers in the fridge. I definitely am starting to miss other foods, but i am thinking of the future. We did this surgery for a reason, we did it for ourselves. Maybe you need a little push to stop thinking about food and start thinking of ur self. Create a you tube channel of your progress, it will motivate you and you will want to continue on a positive note. Sigh up go to a gym. I have to admit i started going 4 month b4 surgery and doing squats before definitely helped me when I'm trying to get up from bed, or even going to the restroom lol. Keep thinking of the future, the new clothes u will buy, the guys u will meet. If u ever want to talk message me. I have found this app to be very very helpful. There were times when i was crying my eyes out and then i read some posts, talked to some ppl who went through the same thing, went to a support group and it helped a lot. So far i have not had any regrets, yes i am in pain, and i wish that i had a bit more support, but at the end of the day i think to myself " u r changing your life, ur going to be gorgeous, u r doing this for u" i go to the fridge get some liquids and continue on. Think of the reason u wanted to do this, why u went to the dr. In the first place. Write it don't put it on ur fridge. good luck! Dasha

April 5 Operation - Trying to transition to soft food

Mashed potatoes are starchy. Try yogurt, refried beans, or cottage cheese. -
Any soft food ideas?
KristenLe replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A few possibilities... Hummus, cottage cheese, eggs, soft cheese, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, beans, creamy soup... Did you have a Nutritionist with your program? They should be a good resource. Concentrate on protein, watch for sugar/added sugar, and low carbs. -
The 0 sugar yogurt is plain Greek yogurt

I'm set for May 9 and starting my pre-op diet April 25. I've been trying to ease myself into it by eating mostly yogurt, protein shakes and vegetables this week. No meat or breads.

April 5 Operation - Trying to transition to soft food
anitavee replied to Reena 4/05/16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm April 5th too! I am still on yogurt and applesauce. The thought of food makes me sick. I tried mashed potatoes and the gas/ reflux pain was so horrible. I'm literally scared to attempt it again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
A little food advice, please and thank you!
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a very blessed problem to have, @Andrea72. I was craving things within 48 hours of getting back from the hospital. Also, it seems like you are on a particularly aggressive return plan to normal foods. At 4 weeks, I was still on no tougher consistency than scrambled eggs...i.e., late puree, early soft. If you need to stay above a certain calorie amount, I would just say slightly increase the portion sizes of the stuff you know are good to eat, like nonfat yogurt and lean protein...these things hopefully cause the nausea related to smell to be minimal. I think in your case your instincts will be far more useful than your nutritionist's advice, which frankly is the most likely thing to sabotage you. This is a gift...both the sleeve and your apparently changed taste buds. Don't let that get reversed! -
In my recovery, I was instructed to advance to soft foods after liquids and chewing 20-30 times, basically purée ing the food in your own mouth, to a baby food consistency. So foods that work well are low fat cottage cheese, low fat refried black beans, non fat low sugar yogurt, Siggi yogurt, strawberries, soft cheeses like Havarti, Oscar Meyer honey smoked deli turkey, Proti diet oatmeal, Progresso chicken Alfredo soup (chew the chicken well). Shrimp has been good for me, just make sure it's not over done and tough. Any meats should be cooked in a slow cooker to make them really tender, as well as the veggies. Good luck!

My recovery did not include puréed foods because I was instructed to chew my soft foods 20-30 times to purée it in my mouth to a baby food consistency. That made transitioning to soft foods easy. Tolerable soft foods for me are low fat cottage cheese, low fat refried black beans, Progresso Chicken Alfredo soup (chew the chicken up well before swallowing), non fat Greek yogurt, Siggi yogurt, strawberries (chewed up well), soft cheeses like Havarti, Proti oatmeal, honey smoked turkey deli meat chewed well, and of course eggs. Take it slow with introducing new foods. Good luck!

I need to do this, no matter what
Micoxv replied to Micoxv's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So tomorrow is my one month anniversary and I have the feeling it is getting worse. I had to go on a business trip yesterday and today. I took my regular breakfast and went to the airport. Once I arrived my colleagues insisted to go to the corporate canteen with me. I could not refuse since I have not seen some of the guys for a few months . Then there was the dilemma on what to eat. Choice was either lamb in a gravy sauce or some fish in a white sauce. Side dishes were steamed carrots and quinoa. I went for the fish, few carrots and the quinoa. I eat very little , was extremely careful with chewing, no drinking and so on. After a few bites of the fish I had a couple of carrots and one bite of quinoa. Then I started to have a hiccup that did hurt me a lot. I had to discreetly go to the bathroom where I threw up the entire lunch. I notice I had a lot of saliva with the food, evens kind of foam. That was weird. Sorry for the gross details but that worried me. As soon as the sleeve got empty all the discomfort was gone. Then in the evening I had to join them for drinks. And we went to a pub...with a nice selection of craft beers. They all tried different ones when I had an apple juice. After a few rounds (for them) they decided to go to a burger place ...And I went back to the hotel and bought a yogurt and some turkey ham (another bad idea) on the way. Same thing happened, plus a heartburn. I had to take my PPI to calm down. Today I had a yogurt, a protein drink I took with me, so unsweetened ice tea and a protein bar for lunch. No issues. I guess I can't go to restaurant yet. I am wondering what I am going to do next week as I am going on a business trip to India. I better bring everything I need. I am wondering how long it will be before I can have some kind of social life again. -
Day 5 of pre-op and I miss food.

I am on day 4 and I'm feeling a lot better today than the first three days! I am at the doctors now waiting for my pre-op physical. May 2 is my surgery date, so I have two full weeks of this diet. Protein shake and cream of wheat for Breakfast, Protein Shake, 1 cup Soup, pudding for lunch, protein shake, 1 cup soup, Jello for dinner and yogurt for bedtime snack. Overall not so bad! I had mine on April 5, so I'm 16 days out. I've been trying to transition to soft food but I'm still almost entirely Protein drinks, yogurt and cottage cheese. I tried scrambled eats and they ruined me for the day. I ate way too fast and too much. I was rushing out the door with the kids and had to turn around...it was horrible. But I did learn an important lesson about eating too fast and too much. I've eating a few pieces of stir fried chicken. Last night I had one little piece of stir fried beef. I've also had a few deli sliced of roasted chicken. I still have a bottleneck feeling going on when I eat and drink. But I feel great. No hunger problems and no cravings. How are you doing with food?

I suck at this protein thing!
NewAngela replied to ambermj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isopure zero carb clear Protein really helped me. About 3 weeks in my Protein shake disgusted me. My nutritionist suggested just drinking Fairlife milk (as long as you can tolerate some lactose, although Fairlife is low carb). I was also able to drink WonderSlim shakes, kefir, and shakes with Greek yogurt (full or partial fat). The yogurt really changed the taste Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Smooshy scrambled eggs are those made with some milk. Greek yogurt (less than 5 g of sugar per serving like Dannon Light and Fit). A few spoonfuls of smashed potatoes (I like redskins and mash with the skins on for more potassium and vitamins) and I also use high protein Fairlife milk for the mashing, hummus, refried beans. -
9 days post op and I can already eat 4oz yogurt?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Talaria's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds perfectly normal. For me, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese were both allowed on my full liquid phase and they function like liquids. Being satisfied on 4 oz of Greek yogurt is great. That is what we want to happen. It's a great source of Protein, too. -

FocusOnMeNow replied to Talaria's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt especially Greek yogurt which is high protein and has 5g sugar or less per serving is one of the very BEST things that you can eat. I was allowed to have yogurt in "full liquids" stage, so to your tummy it is very similar to a liquid. Keep doing what you are doing. -

I've purchased gatorade, sf Jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles, yogurt and chicken broth. Hopefully Friday I will have time to go try some to get some premier Protein shakes. Any other suggestions? Thanks all Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App -
@@jenmv So I am now in maintenance mode. I eat about 1000-1300 calories a day (closer to 1000 most days). I have really started to get it up to 1400 and want to be consistent with it. I workout 4-5 days a week doing pretty strenuous workouts, so I feel like I need to be upping my calories a bit. I still eat a lot of string cheese, light Greek yogurt, and beef Jerky. I eat a lot of veggies. I don't go overboard on carbs, but I don't watch them as closely as I did when I was trying to lose. I got my surgery done in Tijuana by Dr. Kelly. The surgery went well, but I felt like his bedside manner lacked as well as his follow up. Lastly, yes, right at 3 months my hair loss began. It sucks. I already have fine hair, but now that it's thinning, ugh. I wear a lot of pony tails.

Hi. I was/am still struggling with the puréed diet. I've just discovered if you purée tin tuna (I was told not to eat it from the can as that's considered a "soft" food) and avocado together is yummy. Also roast chook, Mayo, avocado and a bit of sweet chilli sauce. That worked as well. Yogurt and any fruit with a splash of honey is a quick lunch meal. Hope that helps.
