Eating the same meals
JupiterinVirgo replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of my favorite staple foods, which change I find overtime based on what my body wants have included: Organic or non-GMO project certified yogurts-the higher Protein the better. I always put granola and/or berries in my yogurt. Nuts: cashews, walnuts, almonds Cheese: high-end, grass fed, snobby cheeses LOL The occasional Protein Bar. Fruit: bananas, berries, oranges, pomegranate seeds, pears, apples Occasionally, some soft cooked meat coffee with Protein powder. -

If you have had the balloon... any advice for someone getting it this week? things you wish you did/asked?
Wayward Traveler replied to michelleg46's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
@@michelleg46 - here are some things that I previously posted on the subject: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/349876-gastric-balloon-procedure-booked/page-6#entry4120318 (post #56) http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/353935-orbera-success-strategies/page-13 (post #124) http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/365226-orbera-or-reshape-balloon-why-did-you-pick-one-over-the-other/ (Since you started this one, I'm guessing that you already read my responses ... :-)) Be sure to get anti-nausea meds (even ask for the patch just before the procedure) and take them for the first couple of days, even if you feel OK ... it's best to stay ahead of it. Have pain meds in case you need them. It sounds like most people need PPIs until the balloon is removed. My doctor (and most others) seem to give anti-anxiety meds, too. I didn't need mine but apparently it's pretty common to need them until your body adjusts. I didn't need IV fluids. I had Isopure Zero Carb RTD but could not stomach it at first. Water, ice, popsicles and Jello made up my diet for the first 2-3 days. Then I focused on getting Protein in, and made sure that I had Protein drinks on hand that I liked (as well as yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.). I also used a wedge pillow the first few days, and ordered barf bags from Amazon - lol! I did use a couple but, more importantly, just appreciated the peace of mind that they provided. Hope that helps - please feel free to reach out with any other questions. :-) -
Are you taking probiotics or digestive enzymes? I am not as far out from surgery from you but I find I can tolerate nearly anything. My doctor encourages lots of drinkable yogurt/kefir, probiotics and digestive enzymes. I think these may be the reason I can tolerate different foods. I still feel the restriction if I eat more than a couple of ounces.

You probably won't feel "full" eating soft foods and liquids like cottage cheese and yogurt. Post-op, rather than feeling full, I aim for satisfied. It is easy to go from satisfied to one bite too many so slow down, take small bites, chew thoroughly (when you get to denser foods) and you will get a better sense of when you have eaten enough.

I am 6 days post op and been on a full liquid diet since Saturday. My NUT told me that I can eat yogurt and cottage cheese too. Even though I'm drinking and eating somethings my stomach never feels full. Anyone else ever experienced this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Muscle cramps 3 weeks post op
Inner Surfer Girl replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can mix it into shakes, puddings, yogurt, etc. You can also reconstitute it with water to make a paste (peanut butter). -

Yeah, I was only on clear liquids for 3 days and then I was allowed my regular protein shakes at least. I think it was closer to a week and a half before I was allowed any other "full" liquids besides the shakes. At that point I was allowed drinkable yogurt and strained cream soups.

Newbie on Protein
nearperfectmess replied to Debbie915's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Debbie915 I second the Unjury! I'm 4 weeks post-op now and the unflavored unjury has been great (well...as great as you can get when you're dealing with Protein powder). My favorite is the protein pudding I make - a box of sugar free Jell-O Pudding (I'm partial to vanilla, but any of the SF flavors will work), one packet of unflavored Unjury powder and two cups of Fairlife Skim Milk (for the extra protein). Each 1/2 cup serving is 11.75 grams of protein. It's a nice change when you get sick of greek yogurt or other things and want something smooth. The Unjury chicken soup flavor is surprisingly decent, as well, if you want something that will just stand on it's own. -

The puree stage was the hardest for me because I couldn't mentally bring myself to eat pureed chicken, steak, whatever. I tried pureeing some meat one night and it was just so weird looking and smelly. My head was telling me "Chicken is not supposed to look like this!". My puree stage lasted three weeks and I ate pretty much the same thing for those entire three weeks (yogurt, hummus, cottage cheese, refried Beans, and some poppyseed chicken casserole). I thought those three weeks would never end lol. If you can just get through it with the knowledge that it doesn't last forever, you'll be just fine. Now that I'm almost 7 months out and can eat pretty much anything I want, that puree stage seems like a distant memory. -
You need to eat small amounts throughout the day. My NUT told me to eat every 3 hours or so but very small meals (concentrating on protein). You could try cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (watch the sugar content though), beans, soup, soft boiled eggs, hummus, ground chicken or turkey). Be sure to drink plenty of water or non-caloric drinks. Watch the oatmeal for sugar content too! You should be sure to eat at night even if you don't feel like it! Your stomach pains very likely could be from either the H Pylori or antibiotic. Hope you are doing better soon!

Ur nut should lose her job! Telling someone this is wrong! We have issues with food and u can't just say eat ice cream! Uhhhhh some ppl. Dnt be tempted. Soft cheese, or the cheese on a stick is yummy. I love Greek yogurt Even a slim fast to get n the extra cals is better than an ice cream. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Bino replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that's a great idea! You can have a closed group so no one outside the group can see what you are posting. I just had my second post-op visit with the doc yesterday. Everything is looking good. I'm a week and a half out from surgery and get to start mushies, i.e. mashed potatoes, hummus, Greek yogurt, etc. I feel really good. From the two-week liver shrink diet to now, I've lost 21 lbs. -
Struggling truck driver post op
asmallerme2016 replied to LadiiReignBeau's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Subway you can get just chicken, tuna and ask them to put it in a bowl you don't have to get it with bread. Some truck stops have the Wendy's or mc d's ask for the grilled chicken no bun. All truck stops sell soup, just watch the sodium and drink lots of Water. Stop at a Walmart or before u leave home stock up on Protein drinks, fruits, yogurts (if u have a fridge). Until u get in the groove of the lifestyle u will feel numbed because eating fast food was so much more convenient but remember that is what got you here. Good luck!!! HOw much should we eat one month post op?
LondonHawk replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days out and I kind of feel like my sleeve isn't right as I don't feel the restriction that others seem too feel. I am still in phase 2 of my food so my daily looks like this. B 1/2 cup of Fairlife fat free milk w Inspire Protein, L 1/2 cup of homemade Soup with Protein mix and 1/2 Water (I dont manage to finish this) D 1/2 Breakstone's fat free cottage cheese S 1 Dannon Light and Fit yogurt I am managing somewhere between 50g and 70g of protein and getting 40-70 ozs of water. -
I don't know of a 0 sugar yogurt, but my NUT recommended Fage 0%. It has 0g fat, 7g carbs (sugar), 18g Protein per cup. That's hard to beat. It's a little thick, so I mix in an ounce or so of soy milk which makes it a very nice texture. (I'm pre-op so I can still eat a cup... ) Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Starting 4th week - been stalled for a week already
numeby2017 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guess I definitely hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Lost 14 pounds at 10 day post op appointment, then 2 more and then it stopped. So 3 weeks out and stuck at 16 pounds. I am getting about 500 calories / 60-70 grams of Protein a day. Eating Greek yogurt, fat free refried Beans, cottage cheese, hummus on soft lunch meat turkey that is easy for me to chew before swallowing. I see Nut Friday, see what tips she will give me to be sure I'm doing everything right. -
A little food advice, please and thank you!
Barry W replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even 800 calories is not a lot, so yes, you don't want to be below that on ongoing basis. Even the smell of food makes you naseous? Have you been vomiting a good deal before this? If so, your brain may have gotten conditioned to associate that smell with illness and vomiting... Some suggestions that are less drastic than ice cream and milkshakes: 1. Greek yogurt - make it lowfat instead of nonfat 2. Find some way to eat legumes, like 2a. Bean salads like these - these are premade, but there are recipes online, you could buy vinagrette dressing http://www.cedarsfoods.com/products/mediterranean-salads/all-natural/aegean-edamame-salad-8-oz/ http://www.cedarsfoods.com/products/mediterranean-salads/all-natural/chickpea-salad-8-oz/ http://www.cedarsfoods.com/products/mediterranean-salads/all-natural/black-bean-salad-10-oz/ 2b. chicken or turkey chili with Beans - these are canned, but pretty good, if you can't find, there are recipes online http://www.traderjoesreviews.com/product/trader-joes-chicken-chili-with-beans-reviews/ 3. Soft fruit - a nice ripe banana or cling peaches in extra light syrup 4. High Protein or high Fiber oatmeal (which tend to have lower sugar as well), like: http://www.quakeroats.com/products/hot-cereals/high-fiber/maple-and-brown-sugar.aspx http://www.quakeroats.com/products/hot-cereals/protein/cranberry-almond.aspx 5. Low sugar/whole grain cereals with 1% organic milk - Original Cheerios, All Bran Flakes, or Post Shredded Wheat & Bran, 6. Light string cheese http://www.shopwell.com/lucerne-string-cheese-mozzarella-light/cheese-hard/p/2113004745 -
I hate the protien shakes. 1 cup of greek yogurt has 15g of protien. 4 oz of chicken has 25g of protien. Combat protien bars 20g of protien. Thats 60 grams right there

@@bigmoe99 You are right - complex is what we want - rather than simple sugars. Although simple sugars include Milk and Yogurt and they should be part of our diets - but select the ones with lower sugar content (be careful with some of the yogurts - they are sometimes loaded with as much sugar as a candy bar! Thanks Moe!
