  1. Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not the only one. I am going to try and just weigh once a week so the scale doesn't drive me so crazy. I know I am still recovering...just want to make sure I have some good results before seeing my Dr. I was disappointed that I wasn't seeing her until 7 weeks after, but now I am glad. I decided to start working out on my elliptical while my son naps. Going to make myself a chart today to keep track of my workouts and weight loss to keep me motivated to make the right choices.
  2. Try upping the calories a bit! I lost 14lbs 3 days before surgery, then 7lbs the next week, then only 3lbs the next week and was frustrated. Sometimes our bodies can go into "starvation/shock" mode and hold on to everything thinking it is never getting more calories again or for a while. I talked to my nutritionist and she said to try upping my calories a bit to 1000-1400 a day and it has worked wonders! I have been dropping more weight since... Also, it is super normal to feel hungrier now that the post surgery feeling is going away. I am personally struggling with that now because I was supposed to have my first fill last week but due to a incision infection it has been put off until this thursday. Stay strong lady! Also, try to only weight yourself on one day a week, in the morning, naked. I used to get on the scale every other day and I made myself crazy! Our weight fluctuates daily depending on if we have gone to the bathroom or drank alot of water or where we are in our cycles etc... If you stick to one day a week you won't stress out as much! Good luck and keep up the good work... be strong lady!

    Henderson support group...trying again

I wasnt digging at anybody. If you read the message clearly I stated that those of you that want to have a group that socializes at luncheons or dinners, that may be your thing. I just want a group that meets and discusses things on their journeys to losing weight. Some people CANT handle having food in front of them. Because I asked to have those interested to private message me, its an issue?? Sorry that bothers you or anyone else from the group that I originally tried to start. I dont want to fight about this, it isnt worth it. Good luck on your journeys!! Fran
  4. This is the hardest sh* I've ever done. I expected it to be a lot easier. Im only 2weeks out so I'm still healing.I've lost weight other ways over the years but it always came back and brought more with it.the sleeve is a tool that will hopefully stop us from cheating ourselves. So no nothing's easy about this path

I Agree With Sarahmizzou About The Whole "waiting For A Year Thing", By The Time I Pay All Them Co-pays And Everthing They Want Me To Try, I've Probably Gained More Weight And Spent My Lapband Money! And Yeah That Lane Bryant Does Help Me Save Either!!!!
  6. may i add a couple more, . . . embarrassment profuse sweating when its cool outside Wait until you slip up a bit and gain 21 lbs like I did because of stupidity. . then having to lose it. . . want to talk about easy? It's everything but easy! Actually once you gain weight, it's just as hard to lose as if you never had the sleeve if not harder. . . .
  7. :wub:I am 18 days postop. I am so grateful for the surgery and also the removal of a hematoma that was a complication from a previous surgery ( the hematome, about the size of a baseball) I have lost 12.5 pounds since the day before surgery. I am eating about 1100 to 1400 calories. This may sound like alot to some but I know if I eat less than that my body thinks it is starving and holds on to the weight. I excercised to "Zumba" today for a full 20 minutes. It is a totally fun latin dance excercise dvd. I felt I hit a mini goal. I am hopeful for 1.5 to 2 lbs a week on average. If I loose 6 lbs a month I will be at my goal by my band aniversary date. My first goal will be 170 and my second goal will be 140. I don't want to loose too quickly. I have seen people loose too quickly and they look horrible and unhealthy. Eating a balance of fats, carbs and protiens will keep my hair and skin healthy. Being over 50 that is so important to not let the weightloss age me anymore than I already am. My restriction is very comfortable right now. I am about 3 cc's and I go for a fill in 1 week. I am not sure I want too much of a fill I will need. My attitude is this band is a tool. I will not look at it as a "cure". I am grateful I can sit down with a small meal and not be hungry afterwards. Wow! that is awesome. One of the main things that has helped is not eating until I am physically hungry. I am finding other activities when I have head hunger or deal with the root of the head hunger. That is such an important difference than before. Well that is all for now!:rolleyes2: Best wishes for all on this journey! Lee Anne

No weight loss since week 1

you have just gone through a major organ surgery... just follow the diet plan your NUT & Doc put in place for you... everyone goes through some kind of stall or period of time without weight loss... your body just has to catch up... it will happen... just make sure you are getting in your Water & Protein every day and start walking. Good Luck!!!

    Its A Whole New World

CONGRATS! This is one of the best choices you can make for you and your family. Yes, it is hard to give up our cloths when we lose the weight because our negative thinking goes back to: I'm going to fail this time and need this size later. Well guess what? That is called Steeken thinking! You are going to learn what are your triggers to eating unhealthy foods, and yes it will be painful at times, and learn the coping skills to stay away for old negative triggers so you can benefit from having your new tool, "the Sleeve." Welcome to the Big Loser's CLub! This is the greatest support group ever!

    Waiting for Monday

Thank you for the PM's and the guidance. I will continue to be in touch! All I can think about is talking to my PCP on Monday to find out about my out of network pre-cert that she has to give me to see my doctor (Robert Pinnar in Reston, VA). I am so tired of the struggle! I have done every diet that you can think of, every weight loss plan that you can join, and even had a botched liposuction, only to end up STILL needing something that fits into my life and works for me!!! I am assuming that once the pre-cert is done my surgeons office is who will submit my medical records and weight loss attempts to Aetna for approval. My PCP is fairly new to practicing and not very knowledgable about all that this is required or could arise. I really feel like this is my last hope to get my weight under control before I do develop serious health problems. My blood pressure is "elevated" but not what doctors consider high. My cholesterol is 2 points over what doctors consider high. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy, which makes me a likely candidate for diabetes, but I am not diabetic now, I am borderline with most co-morbidities and I am just praying that I don't have to become "sick" or have to be on daily medications to control certain illnesses before I can qualify to better my quality of life. *sigh* To Be or Not To Be...continued...

Badger, best of luck to you! Research, research, research -- the type of weight loss surgery that you want, the surgeon, your aftercare. You just can't check it out enough! The Lapband will not affect your food absorption quality at all. The Lapband and RNY are totally different. Please be sure that you are well informed before making any final decisions. Good luck!

    Looking for support!

Exactly! I wont be telling anyone else until closer to if not when I get to the acceptance stage with the insurance. I've made up my mind and some people just think its easy. It took me two years to lose 60lbs. And then a little over a year i gained it back plus 40 for a total of 100! It irritates me how much weight I've lost through the years. I'm SO glad you said the time goes by fast! That makes me feel so much better!

    Back to Basics

Okay, so now my focus is back on my weight loss, full throttle. I've been losing consistently, but I think I can do better. 10 pounds a month is okay, but I'd like to jump start it. I know what I need to do. Some days I am the paragon of virtue--Lots of protein, low carbs, low fat. I get off the wagon most on days when i don't work. Structure seems to work well for me. I am so good on work days. Now it's just a matter of getting used to eating like that every day. My short term goal is to eat healthy with no fatty food etc for 6 days out of the week. I'm already doing great on my portion sizes--which in the past were my biggest problem. I've been good with the gym, but I'm going to do better. I can step it up a notch. My goal is to lose 15 pounds this month. Wish me luck! oh and by the way, the guy I was dating sent me an email stating he was confused and not sure what he wanted. I replied that I think it would be better if we were just friends. He has been calling and emailing me like mad ever since saying he wants to see me but I haven't replied. Why is it that guys only want you when you don't want them? Sheesh, I'm not losing any sleep over this one...

    Flying And The Dreaded "extender"

When i flew at the end of june i ended up needing one and i thought to myself i am never doing this again! Im getting my surgery and getting to a normal weight!! I cant wait to start my new life! No more extenders!!!
  15. Hi, As you may or may not know I blog for my doc. Dr. Titus Duncan realresultswls.com I have had a sweet time with my band from August 2009. It has been as much a psychological journey as a physical one. It's been pretty much smooth sailing for me. Don't get me wrong, I've had to figure this fickle little thing out the hard way a few times but in general it has worked to curb my appetite, keep me full with just a few bites and the weight has come off at a slow pace the whole time. Generally 4 to 6 pounds a month and honestly, I exercise sporadically depending on the season and my busy schedule. I attend our Real Results monthly support group in Atlanta and I read posts here. I hear people struggling. I hear everything from I fell off the wagon and gained weight to I can still eat as much as I want with no restriction to I still crave my old favorites and can't say no. If you struggle with any of these issues I'd like to hear you story. I'm trying to understand these issues better so I can help more people. I'd like to know if the band simply has no effect on you or do you think you are still eating emotionally. Does your family or work dynamic make it difficult for you to utilize your band. I'd just like input so I can give some perspective to people in my group. I just hate to see people struggle. We've struggled with weight for so long, taken drastic and costly measures to get help and if that help isn't working I'd like to try to figure out why. Please let me know how long you've been banded. How many CC's you have in your band. And exactly which issues you struggle with. Ability to eat as much as you want. Never feeling full. Still craving old favorites. Eating much less but still not losing. All input would be appreciated and maybe there will be others here that can give you some positive perspective or answers. In actuality this procedure 'should' work for everyone but it is often more difficult for some than others and I'm on a Quest to figure out why. Thanks for your input....besides, if you are struggling this is a good post to vent in.
  16. Hi: The last time I had a fill, I stayed nauseated for a while. I noticed it the most when I laid down. Then sinus drainage did not help that at all ! ! ! I thought maybe, a little to tight. Now almost 90 days later. I find myself getting hungrier through the day. I'm scheduled for the end of July to go back in for a fill, but I don't want to be to tight. (I HAVE BEEN IN THE RED ZONE BEFORE, AND IT'S NO FUN.) So I'm thinking of just trying to start to figure out all these different foods that I do eat for Protein, and Calorie Purposes, and somehow change things around to satisfy myself. Also still thinking about a slight tweaking. at the Surgeons Office. I have 2.75 in a 4cc Band. So trying to figure out how to make this work They would like tight , because they don't want to see weight gain. Well I don't want weight gain either, but don't care for this nausea. I'll see if he prescribes something or maybe some PEPCID COMPLETE will do it. PCP won't touch it ! Even if it is sinus drainage also....
  17. I have been successful in loosing my excess weight, but the band hasn't been the tool I hoped for. In the process of getting fills/unfills I spent a lot of time either hungry (especially come late afternoon) or getting sick. There didn't seem to be much of a happy medium. I was in a good place for about a month here and there. After maintaining my weight loss for a few months I decided to have a large unfill. I wanted to be able to eat in the morning, before the unfill I was too tight for solids until lunch time, and eat some rice, bread, pasta. Would I do the band again? Probably not. I wish I had given it one more shot on my own, I hadn't "dieted" or excersised in years before I got banded in Nov. 09. Anyway, now my struggle is maintaining my weight loss. I weigh in every day and have managed to stay within about a 5 pound range.
  18. Hello! I would just like to hear some success story's. I've been struggling lately with my port flipping and all. (Just got it flipped back yesterday) was anyone banded in April and how are you doing?!!
  19. I had surgery two weeks ago today (well technically yesterday but I'm a nightowl). I can't believe how tiny and good my incisions look. I was always a slow healer but I never took care of myself and I think 4 weeks of Vitamins have helped. When I started my pre-surgery diet 4 weeks ago I was 266.5 lbs. When I had surgery 2 weeks ago I was 257.5 lbs and today I was 245 lbs. So I lost 21.5 lbs in 4 weeks, 12.5 lbs in the 2 weeks post surgery. Funny I feel like this is going so slow but when I step back and figure it out I think I am doing pretty durn great! My best friend says my face is thinner, my DH says my tummy is smaller. I really don't think they can see a difference yet but I still appreciate the thoughts! My only complaint is I am still so darned tired! If I lose weight and I'm still so lethargic and tired all the time I am gonna be pissed! Then I will know something else is wrong with me. I always get all my Protein in but have not yet been able to drink anything near to 64 oz of Water or even liquid. Without trying to my calories seem to be alternate between 350 & 650. So there I am, Rebecca age 54, 245 lbs and very excited about this new way of life. Also I was excited that today I was exactly 100 lbs to my goal weight! So any day now I can say I have less than 100 lbs to lose!

Good luck to you on your journey!

    Exhausted All. The. Time

"only able to sleep about 2-4hours at a time since surgery" Umm.. this is why you are so tired! Instead of trying to watch TV, go to bed! Even getting 2 hour naps spaced throughout the day may get you rested enough to be able to start sleeping through the night. Sleep meds may be needed for a while until your sleep schedule improves. Melatonin is a great suggestion to try without a prescription. Lay off of all the exercise until you get your 8 hours of sleep. Daily activities are enough for right now, because the exercise is increasing your adrenaline, keeping you awake. Weight loss happens when you sleep. Healing happens when you sleep. Not falling asleep while driving and killing yourself and family... happens when you sleep. Good L... NIGHT.
  22. Hey there folks. My name is Will. I'm 35 years old and In 2015 I had the gastric bypass sleeve. I have not lost the weight with that that I wanted to or hoped to. I have contacted a surgeon in my TN area and am going to the pre surgery seminar tomorrow night. Then I have my appt with the head nurse and surgeon on Friday. I'm hoping that he will say I can qualify for the bypass. I'm not happy with my current situation. I'm having stomache pain and discomfort and a lot of diarrhea. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated Thanks Will

    Was I just misinformed?

I haven't received my surgery date yet. BUT, let me just say this to you. You were very misinformed. Technically, you could eat what you want. But, that's just a very DUMB way of looking at it. I hate to say this but this doctor should be FIRED. He appears to be one of those doctors who are just in it for the money. Please go around and read things on this board. We all have a problem with food. That is the reason we are having this surgery done. The reason we became obese is because we all have problems with portion control and diet and nutrition as a whole. NO doctor in there right mind would tell a bariatric patient to eat whatever they want after the surgery. Read some of the blogs on here about how people get sick after eating too early or how eating certain things (mainly bad food) will have them feeling quite miserable. The program I am in requires us to focus on diet and exercising. That should be your main focus. I started my change back on 7/28 and to date I've lost 30 pounds. I did this because I began learning how important eating the RIGHT foods will mean to my body pre and post op. If you're struggling with your food choices you should see a NUT ASAP so you can get on track. I wouldn't listen to another word this doctor is saying because he's TOTALLY in it for the money. I'm sorry you were sold cheap goods. This is a major surgery that will take a lot of work on your part. Remember the surgery is just a TOOL. In order to lose as much weight as possible and to keep it up you can't have the same mentality that got you here in the first place. Get your mental right and work a plan and stick to it. I know it's hard. But you can def do it!
  24. Hi everyone. I am on day 8 of my pre op diet. I swear this gets harder everyday and I am really frustrated because the doctor told me I could lose like 20 lbs in two weeks. I am eating nothing but baby carrots and having 4 muscle milk 100s a day which I know is probably not enough calories (400-600) but why does the scale go up and down? Seeing the numbers go down was the only thing getting me through this horrible diet. Anyone else experience this?
  25. Stay off the scale @aries477. Weight can fluctuate from not just day to day, but at different times of the same day. This liquid diet is not about weight loss, it's about shrinking the liver. And just a heads up....when you are back on food again...even mushy food, some of that weight loss will likely turn into gains until you are on a steady calorie count. Good luck...all of us who were on liquid diets know how hard this part of the process was. We're here to support you.
