DO YOU THINK IT'S REALLY BAD TO TRY SOUPS 10 DAYS OUT POST OP???
-
Congrats Melissa and Judy! It sounds like all of us 10/16 bandsters that have checked in so far have done well! I posted my story on the "Banded....check in here thread" so check it out. I will be thinking about each of you as you go through this journey. I'm so glad we have each other!

My doc says 1200 to 1400 but I am only having that now and get my first fill on Monday. I was banded 2 months ago and have lost 19 lbs with no fill.
-
I have a 10cc band and was told it holds 4cc - don't know if that's correct or not looks like to me if a band is 10 cc it would hold 10cc. I've lost 45# before oct.26 gained 10# in Nov cause of being opened up so that puts me to 35# in 7 yrs. I have a friend my age who has oxygen problems and can't do a lot of exercise and we both are losing about the same. For me it's the knees. I going to take the 4cc off because it might not be correct.

I'm stuck at 60lbs also! What is it with that number???? I will try the suggestions given by others, but it's comforting to know it's not just me! I really wanted to be down atleast 80lbs by this time. My one year Bandiversary was 10/01/08..Oh well, i've never lost 60lbs in my life, and I haven't been under 100lbs in over 13 years (I'm at 198) so I'm still thankful! I'm gonna work hard to lose the next 30lbs. I think I just got comfortable!

Tell me about your hospital experience
rcarter76 replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long were y ou in surgery?I was in surgery for 35-45 minutes my family tells me. Did you have a private room post op? Yes, it had a lounge chair, and my own bathroom. Very modern and up to date and nice! How many days did you stay? I checked in on a Monday at like 5am and checked out the next day at 5pm. At the worst point, how would you rate your pain? (o-10 with 0 being the least amt of pain) Worst point 10, but that was RIGHT when I came to and then they started the morphine! What kind of pain killers did they use? Did they work? Morphine and YES it worked, and I took home Lortab and it was wonderful as well. What did you do to pass the time? (I don't like to sit for long and I will walk the hospital all day long if they let me) I brought magazines and books and my laptop. Didn't need any of it I was sooooo out of it and tired. I took lots of naps and watched some tv. What did you take for entertainment? Anything? See above. How did you pack and what would you leave at home if you were to do it over again? Robe and slippers (to walk post surgery since you need to and they make you!), change of clothes, heating pad, toiletries etc. Good luck! -
Every doctor has different requirements for post-op. I am on "modified full liquids" for 3 weeks. I am supposed to have 2 ounces of a high Protein drink every hour on the hour while awake, plus I can have 2 ounces of another low calorie liquid every 15 minutes for a total of 8 ounces an hour. I'm not exactly doing the "every hour on the hour" thing, but I am keeping up with everything I drink and when. I'm supposed to get at least 40-60 g of protein a day and 48-64 ounces of Fluid a day, and I am. I use ProteinBlitz drinks, Lean Body and WorldWide milkshakes for my protein, and have Water and beef and chicken broth for the other fluids. I decided to see how many calories I'm getting, just out of curiosity and I'm averaging about 275 a day. I know that's awfully low, but I'm feeling fine and not hungry. It does seem like a lot to do that for 3 weeks, but I may get some different information when I go in next Friday for my 10-day post-op appointment. Good luck and happy losing

Your Minds Eye...plays Tricks
AliveAgain replied to YOLANDA240's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm only six weeks out, but I expect to go through the same thing. I've already gone from a 22/24 to solid 18, even have a pair of 16 that fit. But because we're going from winter to spring, I refuse to buy new clothes until I really need to. So I'm still wearing my 20 jeans and 1-2X tops and jackets. I just don't want to buy a new jacket for a few weeks. I've lost over 10 inches from arms, waist, hips, legs, etc. - so the weight loss is there. But I still see the same fat me when I look in the mirror or see myself naked. This weekend, I cleaned out my closets. I kept clothes from 8-10 years ago when I was "normal" at size 4/6. I held them up and couldn't believe I ever fit in them, nor that I ever will again. I even broke into tears at how much damage I've done to my body, and I just didn't see it. I kept asking my husband, "Do you really remember me that size?!?" There is a strange association that the memories of wearing those clothes was a different person and somehow I switched bodies. You know how your body feels when you get off a treadmill, go skating, etc. and you stop -- feels like the ground should still be moving. And that's only after 20-30 minutes. I see it as the same thing. We're wearing fat suits for years, or even decades. Our minds need some time to catch up, know you're on solid ground again. I don't ever want to forget how 275, 250, 200, etc. pounds feels on my joints and my bones, so that I will always appreciate where I (eventually!) end up. I think it will take a while, maybe even years after I reach goal before I feel stable again... -
Introduction Decided To Get Sleeved Instead Of Banded

I was the same way! My surgery date is July 19 and I am more excited than ever! I can't wait to look and feel great! -
There was a study of alcohol after RNY surgery published in the "Journal of the American College of Surgeons". You can read the whole thing here: https://www.facs.org/media/press%20releases/jacs/gastricbypass0311 Note that the study shows we become MORE affected by alchohol as we heal from RNY surgery (effects are more pronounced at 6-months than at 3-months). One 5-ounce drink of wine was enough to raise the BAC over the legal driving limit. To put it in perspective, one drink after surgery approximately affects us like 4 before surgery. Also, they continue to warn that in RNY patients, there is a higher chance of abusing alcohol due to transference. Here are some excerpts: "The results of this unique demonstration of alcohol metabolism changes in gastric bypass patients showed that patients who underwent a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) operation had considerably higher breath alcohol content (BAC) and took significantly more time to return to a sober state after drinking, compared with BAC levels tested prior to having their procedure." "During the study, alcohol metabolism tests were performed on 19 morbidly obese patients before their RYGB operation and then measured again at three and six months post-operation. Patients also reported symptoms experienced when drinking and answered a questionnaire about their drinking habits." "The results showed peak BAC percentage of patients after drinking five ounces of red wine was significantly higher post-operation. BAC was 0.024 percent at pre-operation and 0.059 percent (p = 0.0003) at three months. Tested again at six months post-operation, the patients’ BAC was 0.088 percent (p = 0.0008) which is more than the legal driving limit of .08 percent. Additionally, it took 49 minutes for patients to reach a zero BAC prior to their operation compared with 61 minutes at three months and 88 minutes at six months post-operation." "RYGB patients need to understand that their body will respond to alcohol differently after their operation and they need to exercise caution if they choose to drink alcohol,” said Dr. Morton. “Our recommendation to all of our RYGB patients is never drink and drive and to limit consumption of alcohol to one standard drink (one 12-oz beer, 5-oz wine, or 2-oz liquor) for every two hours."

New to Forum. July 9th 2010 Surgery date!!!!
courtkc replied to Wheatthin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My sleeve surgery date is June 16th, 2010. I expected a huge fight from BCBS, but only one denial and within 10 days, the appeal and and approval. I'm currently 328 lbs and suffer from tendonitis in the feet, sleep apnea, high BP, insulin resistence, incontinence, muscle aches and pains and asthma. I'm constantly in pain when walking. I'm tired when walking from the parking lot to my classroom! I'm excited and scared at the same time. I don't want to have to have the surgery, but know I must to be healthy. I went to the surgeon in April and was told to eat a modified Atkins diet until we got he approval. I just can't make myself start... I'm having such a hard time... I hope there is someone else out there that had this problem and has been successful after surger. I'm really starting to wonder if I will be... HELP! Courtkc:001_huh: -
pretty much, my weight loss slowed at the at the 6 month mark then at the 10 month mark I dropped 2 kg then it stopped. my lowest weight was 1 week off my 1 year mark but I have since put on 2 kg

How soon after surgery can you travel internationally?
SoCalDixieGal replied to starfish108's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like it will be awesome. If you play an instrument watch out for how heavy the case may be to lift. Not sure if you'll have a 10 or 20 lb lifting limit, but it's amazing how quickly that adds up. I just bought a rather small super light weight suitcase that only weighs 4 lbs, my regular TravelPro is nearly 10! -
I know that the places I eat at (when I do eat out) don't offer doggy bags. Places here in QLD that do takeaway as well as eat in offer dogy bags, but most places that don't do takeaway don't do doggy bags. If you get what I mean! And I don't think I'd want the crap on the kids menu. Yes, they are smaller, but 9/10 times they are just crap. Nuggets, chips, hotdogs and fried fish are not my #1 selection when I look at the menu! LOL. I would rather pay for a full serve of an adult meal and just leave what I don't eat.

So my original goal was to be at 250 on surgery day (even if butt naked!). So if I have basically 4 1/2 days until surgery I could loose 10 lbs?! My problem is that I don't HAVE to do the pre-op but for 2 days--mushies on Tuesday and liquids on Wednesday. I have good intentions of doing the liquid diet, I try to start it then get hungry and tell myselt that I don't have to do it right now. But I would LOVE to meet my goal for Thursday. I am starting a colon cleanse today, that helped me get to the 255 for my last doc appt. (we wont tell anyone that I gained back 5 from my many 'last suppers'. ) I'll let you know if I make it to goal for surgery day. :blushing:
-
Mine was day 1 - 10 clear liquids, days 11 - 20 full liquids, days 21 - 30 mushies. Solid foods one at a time after the first 30 days.

How soon after surgery can you travel internationally?
SoCalDixieGal replied to starfish108's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my first business trip for the 5th week after surgery. I've rejected all the requests I've had for earlier travel. As said above, watch the lifting of suitcases, carry-on, etc. You're still healing. Make sure your laptop case is a roller one and you won't be cleared to lift it into the overhead. I've seen a lot of posts from people who are doing great within days, then lots of others where people are dragging through week 5 and beyond. You're going to get the double whammy of a 10 - 12 hour time change (or whatever it is from where you live). That alone will exhaust you. Yes, while a lot of folks travel for the surgery, business travel as we know is a different ball-game. It's not just the flight but working, meetings, dining out, etc. You actually have to perform when you land and be on your game. You will not yet be on solid food (likely) at 3.5 weeks out. I'll just be transitioning to soft food for my trip and plan on packing some food items and definitely checking luggage. I'd be sure to have a Protein drink shaker bottle (I bought the smaller one and am carrying it in my laptop case) along with some individual packets of Protein shake mix which just uses Water - I'm using the Chike brand. You will not be able to eat out for client/team dinners so check with your boss if that will cause a cultural issue. You will likely be hosted and that can sometimes be an issue - especially if you attend something with food and are not able to eat. -
Surgery RYN was 11/14/16. I'm looking for a buddy/mentor to help me along the way. I'm from PA.

I was sleeved 11/18/19, 2 weeks after surgery I was totally fine but now I’m nauseas, dizzy, can’t eat for almost 3 weeks. I explained this to my surgeon but he just says to drink water. I am in bed most of the time I’m awake, I have zero energy, my eyes are constantly dizzy and I’m worried. I went to the ER & they said it was a UTI. I can’t keep anything down and honestly feel like my body is shutting down. Idk who to talk to or what to do :’( I’m starting to think it’s my gallbladder but I am not to sure. Anybody have advice ?

3.5 weeks post op is really early especially eating chips. You don't want to open a staple or have your stomach not heal properly. Our stomachs aren't fully healed until 8-10 weeks post op (what I read). To me carbs is comfort food. One of my problems before surgery. When I was stressed or sad all I wanted was those carbs. Since it's tough for you to find support where you live, I believe there are also online groups for Food Addicts Anonymous & Over Eaters Anonymous. Good luck! I hope it works out for you not just to lose weight but to also take care of the healing stomach. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 173 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

WANT the Sleeve - but is it worth it for 60 lbs at age 60?
floatingpaint replied to TxCalico's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I am 53 and need to lose the weight to keep blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels down. I have lost 48 lbs since Jan 21 of this year. I am now able to wear a size 10 (down from an 18-20 Woman size) I used to lose my breath walking up the stairs, I now walk 15 K 5 days a week with only a small effort. Gastric Sleeve surgery has been the best decision I have ever made. Go for it ???? -
Hi all -- I was banded on August 29 - a week later (and 10 lbs less!) I'm so hungry I could eat my shoes. On past diets, I've been able to get away with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter - hits the spot without triggering overeating -- but I'm not sure that it would count as a "soft" food? Actually, I'm technically support to be on liquid Protein for another 2 weeks, but frankly, I'm hungry enough and feel sufficiently recovered that if PB falls under the mushie stage and people haven't had problems with it, then I'm willing to chance it! Thanks in advance for your advice! Danielle

My PB was beyond burp, but definitely not vomit. It hurt like hell for about 15 - 20 minutes before anything came up - in the sides of my waist, and mostly in my back between my shoulderblades. Just pain, no nausea like when you vomit. My body tried to burp a few times but it couldn't get out. Each time I would try to burp, I could feel something coming up just a little, but never all the way. When the food finally came up I knew it was happening and made it to the sink, but it wasn't the same feeling as right before you vomit, though I did salivate excessively (no slime though). When it comes up, it's not nearly as bad as vomit because there's no acid involved, just whatever got stuck, anything you put down afterwards, and saliva. Now - my husband thought I was vomiting because I still made the same wretching sounds, and it's still as spasmic, but it's not the same as true vomiting. Trust me -- I've puked twice in the last 10 or 12 years, I hate it that much I fight it with every means possible. I feared PB more than anything, more than the surgery, more than the post-op pain, etc. But I promise you -- if all PBs hurt as much as mine did, you won't mind the "unsticking" because it means the pain stops.
