Almost 2 years out and gaining

I have also gained about 10 pounds My surgery was 02/11/2015 I find when I start back dieting I experience dizzy spells Any have any suggestions for this I started out at 409 and went down to 185. I'm now at 194 I'm a bit scared and don't want to gain much more I am working out as well Any advice would be appreciated
  2. I was sleeved 2/10. I really didn't get hungry for the first few weeks. Now...I eat two oz of cream of wheat before I go to work. Around 11:30 or 12 I do feel hungry but it is never as stong as before. I can always pop a little protein in (a few bites of cheese, protein bar etc) and be fine till lunch around 1pm. You fill up pretty quick...it really is differant. Good luck
  3. Today I met with a second surgeon, Anita Courcoulas and I have to say I was very comfortable with her. Thank you all who suggested to get a new surgeon. She answered my pages of questions and listened to me and my concerns, also explained the entire procedure to me all over again. One question I had for her was about the pre-op diet, she does not require one, and does not require me to keep track of calories although I have been doing it the last 4 months so I may continue for a bit after until my comfort zone. She does not put in a fill at time of surgery but first follow up is in 10 days after surgery and first fill at 5 weeks. I also found out the name of the clotting factor I have it's Lupus Anticoagulant (I have to see a hematologist tomorrow) to probably get more test and make that a certain, and will probably have to take lovenox for 6 weeks. Also found out I have a small hiatal hernia, but the DR is not worried, she said when I have the LB surgery it will tug down on the hernia causing it to come down, therefore eliminating that problem. I also asked what kind of band will be placed she said she determines that at the time of surgery either Realize or LapBand her choice, was her words to me. But I trust her judgement. Sorry for such a long post just wanted to share my day!!
  4. And still sore and tired! It is depressing! I keep hoping to turn the corner and feel better. At what point did people feel more normal? Pennie 8/10

    sleep study

I hope I can do mine at home, I have a 10 month old. And although he will sleep through the night, I don't want to have to find a babysitter just so I can go sleep lol
  6. So I finally saw my nut today. If I worked really hard and had a bit of luck I could get my surgery before the new year. But after some thought, financially it will be a it better to wait. So we are aiming for the first week of January. So excited to see some progress! However the Cleveland clinic requires 10% weight loss (roughly 20lbs for me). It's extremely hard for me to lose weight (thus the surgery). With my excess weight my knees and back hurt like hell and with my meds I'm always hungry. Anyone have any tips to beat hunger and exercises I can do that won't push my back and knees? My nut wasn't much help. ???? Anything but swimming for exercise please. I know it's best but the idea of a bathing suit at a gym pool terrifies me beyond belief.
  7. After 10 years of work with no vacation, I say it is fitting to say you are taking time off for yourself. I called mine a me-cation. Though I was only out two days, a Friday and Monday, so I had the weekend. I know it sounds crazy that I went right back, but in my current position, I had the option to extend time off if necessary, though it wasn't needed. For me though, I wanted to stick to as close to the truth as possible. which I have been able to do thus far. During the pre-op diet and liquid diet phase, intermittent fasting. Just say what will most appropriate for you. But I believe another poster said it, announce the time out, don't just leave them to speculate.

    I need a workout plan!

Google "7 minute workout" or get one of the free apps that do it, it's a quick bodyweight workout that will get you moving. If you want to go to an actual gym, see if there's a Planet Fitness near you. They're cheap - $10/month. Also they have a great section for their "Circuit training program". It's 10 machines that work all major muscle groups. There's a light that turns green for 1 minute and red for 30 seconds. When it's green you work out on one machine. When it's red you stop and move to the next one. They also have steppers there to do some cardio between every machine. If you follow it exactly you'll do a 30 minute workout that includes 10 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of weight training. If you want to mix things up every day, try the playing card workout - http://lifehacker.com/5849412/wednesday-deck-of-cards-workout Lifehacker also has a full workout routine if you want to try to commit to a regular sustained workout: http://lifehacker.com/5849409/the-lifehacker-workout-exercise-for-normal-people Good luck!

    Struggling

You are not alone, I've come across a simple technique that is working for me, since my whole system is still adopting to the new life I'm having I choose to let my sleeve do the work for now, I can't medically explain it, but basically whether I take 3 bites or 10, my toy sea to say through feeling that it's full, so I stop, my mind is still catching up, and takes me back to a not so good place, "finish your food" "Your wasteful" and " you don't like my cooking?", I only kept going once since my sleeve and ended up throwing it up, I've also came to the decision to have 1 cheat day per month, but if I go with my wife to a restaurant and I like her dessert because it looks delicious, my safety plan is to not order it and instead get a taste of my wife's, and not every time either, we are creatures of habit so the whole "eat to live, don't live to eat" is hard to stomach ( pardon the pun), but if even before we start to eat we can rationalize, it can be an easy pleasant experience, if I have an 8oz sirloin I need to be content that no matter how delicious it is, if I full after 4 or 5 bites I can put it aside, we are programmed early on to eat by what things taste like to us and how tasty they are, but if you look around the world some of the healthiest cultures that have long life spans only eat what they need to eat, don't torture yourself though, I've learned to cook for myself and I've made some awesome meals, try buying tools to help you cook

    Baffled!

Any of the food I am eating is approved on the mushy stage of my diet. My mushy stage started at day 10-14 after my surgery. My stomach was able to tolerate it, so I was able to start it. The fish is really the only solid food I am eating. When I do eat that however, I chew it so well and take such small bites that it becomes a mushy paste.
  14. I started taking Wellbutrin last year and haven't had a cigarette since. It's normally prescribed for depression but my doc said she also prescribes it for weight loss and help quitting smoking. Haven't lost any weight , but I was able to quit smoking. I was smoking pack a day for 10+ years. The only downside of taking it that I've had some hair loss.
  15. I had bypass surgery on jan 19. I lost 18 lbs on my 2 week preop diet. I came home from surgery the next day. I was super bloated and had gained 18 lbs..took 3 days to lose it..walking and even burping helps w the gas

To straw or not to straw

I was told not to at first because I would drink too fast. I'm about 10 days out and I've been using a straw for the past 4 days or so with no issues. I tend to drink more when I use a straw and I've been meeting my water goals ever since I started using one again.

    Who did you tell?

My surgery is planned for Nov 11. So far I've told all my friends, all my family, and my small team of co-workers (there's only 10 of us in the office!) I've found it very liberating and motivating. Everyone has been so happy and supportive of me. I feel like I have this great support network now. I was a little embarrassed to admit I was getting surgery, but I have no regrets about sharing. I only told close family and a few friends while I was deciding, but once surgery was scheduled I was open. Now it's nice, people at work check in on me, and ask questions. I can tell everyone just wants the best.
  18. I am feeling very unhappy. My Lap band is coming out on 9/21 after 12 years. I really loved it after losing 110 lbs. and being thin for 10 years. But I have had complications with pain and GERD for the last 2 years and the band was opened. I have gained all my weight back plus more. The band will be removed. I feel awful after being so fit and healthy for 10 years and having it taken away. I have to wait 3 months for my conversion and my surgeon is not certain if I will have sleeve or bypass. He believes I may have a motility issue. I hear weight loss after conversion is slower. I'm so worried and discouraged. I feel like going through this surgery and then the motility tests and the conversion surgery are going to be very traumatic and take forever. I know I may sound ungrateful but I have been suffering terribly with this quick weight gain in 2 years. The quality of my life has been horrible. I've had two back surgeries and I am on a ton of medication due to being so obese. I guess I am looking for anyone who has been in my position who can help make this psychology easier for me. I just need a pep talk to get me through the rest of this waiting and all the surgeries and pre op testing. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I weigh myself anywhere between 1 - 3 times a day. I have a weight watchers scale and once I got on it and though that morning I weighed 192lbs, the scale said I was 185lbs (in the evening nonetheless) so I'm a bit paranoid now. I also use my husband's scale to verify mine. I weigh to keep myself accountable and to keep an eye on my weigh fluctations. when I don't drink many fluids my weight tends to be higher because i am retaining Water. also heavier in the evenings or when I'm on my period. I used to weigh myself like once every few months which is how my weight went from 150lbs to 2i45 lbs in 10 years.

    So Emotional!!!

OK. I won't tell you it's going to get better, I will only tell you it did get better for me. I had my band placed on March 19. The first week, I thought what the heck did I just do to myself. While my surgeon was wonderful, my hospital stay was horrible and my pain was unbearable. I could not believe I'd done this. Week two I started to feel a little better, but still struggled with the decision I'd made. My hubby continued to be supportive and I leaned on my new friends I'd met on several of the boards. I wined and cried and they listened and supported. Week three I went in for my post op visit and I'd lost 10lbs. I felt pretty good and began to feel like myself again except for the continued port pain. I scheduled my first fill for May 1 and began to look toward the future. I'm in week four and my port pain is gone. I've lost more weight, but I don't know exactly how much because my scale committed suicide about 2 months ago. I could not be happier with my decision to have lapband surgery and I'm very excited about what the future will bring. I won't tell you it's going to get better, but I will tell you it did get better for me. 255/245/180 March 19 LapBand Dr. Agos, Chicago, IL Swedish Covenant Hospital
  21. I'm wondering how many of you track everything you put in your mouth and if so how much should I be tracking?. I'm still on a liquid diet and I just started adding soups.. I can barely sip about 2 oz of the soup and I'm trying to get about 40 grams of protein and at least 16 oz of water a day.. Is that enough?

    Sleeve or Bypass? Help!

Research, research, research and talk to people who have had both. Go to support groups in your area and talk to people. For me, 36 BMI on day of surgery, VSG was my best option. And, I had acid reflux for years before surgery. My reflux was really bad post op for the first 8 - 10 weeks. Now I'm doing great. My main reason for VSG was the nutritional data. All I'm required to take post op are daily OTC Vitamins and OTC B12. My digestive system is intact and works like anyone else, just with a smaller stomach.

    Two Weeks Left!

I am so happy you're here and your date is coming up so quickly! I was sleeved 9/14 and already feel like it's the best decision I could have made for me (down 30 lbs.). I feel like I can look forward to being an active grandma now (in 10-20 years lol, my oldest is only 15) instead of watching from the sidelines like my mom with her bad knees, ruined feet, and terrible arthritis.

Surgery In 3 And A Half Weeks , Scared To Death

The pain is mostly soreness and gas. Take the pain medications as prescribed and walk.....walk......walk. It works the soreness out and moves the gas on thru. Seriously, as soon as you can stand up......straight......walk. Sometimes the first walk looks more like a shuffle........hum a little tune and shuffle along. The first 24 hours after surgery were the most uncomfortable to me.....on a scale of 1-10, I'd have rated my worst pain as a 6 or so. And I discontinued the iv pain meds myself as the ones you take by mouth last longer and you feel better. This is awesome and the BEST thing I've ever done for myself........other than marry my husband.......well, and give birth to my 4 kids.
