That's really awesome!! I'm proud of you too!! :)

  3. So tired of these pissing contests. Band/Bypass/Sleeve who cares..Whatever works. No wonder so many leave and not come back.

On the other hand people ASK for the experience that others have. So it can be a positive thing.

Sharing an experience is one thing but down right telling someone they shouldn't do something because they will fail is just wrong even if it is based on their own experience. No two people are the same and the experience will vary.

I think sometimes people "read" more into what the person is posting than is there...but I agree...whatever you got, be HAPPY!!! :)

  4. Today marks 6 weeks post op from my bypass. I've lost a total of 54 pounds since the start of my journey. Feeling pretty good about this new life/adventure!

  5. i am scheduled for gastric bypass for Dec 12 i had to have an upper endoscopy this morning because of my acid reflux. they found a hiatal hernia. anyo e else have this and did you have it fixed during your weightloss surgery. is the recovery time the same? thanks

I had a hernia repaired with lapband surgery. I had surgery on Friday September 26,2014 on that Monday I returned to work. I had no problems from the surgery and I healed just fine. I was back to my normal routine in 2 weeks no restrictions.

  6. My insurance papers have been submitted for approval, and I'm on pins and needles. I'm hoping that I get approved very nervous. Anticipated surgery date for revision is December 18, 2014.

  8. For any long term post-op RNY Bypass pts.

Ok. I am now officially frustrated. I had RNY bypass 10/2003. Lost 108 lbs. Was stupid and regained about 70 lbs. before I went back to my surgeon totally embarrassed. We did a revision 9/2008. I've been bouncing between 130-160, but that's not the problem. The problem is that for the past 17 months, I've been vomiting. It wasn't much at first and only copious amounts of very thick mucous, the consistency of Karo syrup. Now it's very frequent and is often food. Averaging every other day; but no real pattern. I can eat 1/2 of a sandwich one day with NO problem. The next day I eat the other half and I heave 1-3 times! Sometimes it's within 30 min. of eating; sometimes it's up to 2 hours later. Conferred with my surgeon and over the past year, had UGI, CT abd/pelvis, abd. X-ray and endoscopy. Finally after 13 months, surgeon thought it was maybe a defect with the anastomosis at the jejuno-jejunostomy. Went in 2/10/15 for laparoscopic revision of that, but it looked fine. So instead, he just took down (loosened up) a LOT of adhesions. Instead of going home the next day, I got an ileus and was in the hospital for 5 days. And I'm STILL vomiting!! 2 days ago, I had another endoscopy. For the most part, I'm paying cash for the surgical interventions. But I'm still vomiting and hurting. I know it happens sometimes when I eat too much or eat too much fatty or fried things. But not ALWAYS. I finally realize that I'm starting to get down about this; and that takes a lot for me. I've done everything I can do medically. I'm trying so hard to be "good". But the symptoms are not consistent. Has anyone else had a similar experience. My surgeon and I and the gastroenterologist are perplexed and after $25,000, I still don't have an answer. Any thoughts, similar stories or words of encouragement would be appreciated. BTW, I'm not even losing a lot of weight from throwing up all the time as the only things that go down are the high carb; high calorie things. Just not fair!!! (lol)

  9. Hellow everyone well tomorrow is my last dr appointment until they send my paper work to the insu company.I still havent decided yet witch surgery i want im stuck between gastric bypass or sleeve i need to search more on both

  11. Gastric bypass 10/19/2020

  12. hello! This is my first week researching gastric bypass/sleeve. Can y’all please tell me everything you wish you knew from the start? I have read a lot but I feel like there is going to be some surprising disadvantages and I would like to know now. I think right now I am more interested in the sleeve. Can you please tell me why you chose which one you did? With either procedure are you ever allowed to eat rice again like even after a year? Can you drink alcohol ever again? Thank you in advance

I wish i knew about the gas pain! The surgery itself didn't hurt but omg, the gas! 😣 still absolutely no regrets though! X

  13. I'm going in for a sleeve revision October 4th. It worked well for me, and I am not back to my starting weight. However, a revision is strongly encouraged at this time (there are additional medical issues). I have decided to forgo the insurance process, even though I know I would eventually be approved. "Eventually" is the key issue here. I have a small window to create this to where it will not impact my work or home life as much, and waiting for the insurance approval would take over a year.

    • So... I have a haital hernia and they're suspecting some stomach ulcers (explains the anemia/getting endoscopy soon to confirm)
      • According to my doctor, hernia can re-develop after 2-3 years if it is repaired but nothing is done to my sleeve.
    • I have been going to Support Group and the CBT sessions and both have been very helpful.
      • Had the chance to share my story and that has been relieving and empowering...
      • According to the program leader (for more than 20 years), only 5% of WLS patients stay at goal 10 years after surgery.
        • One study showed the most contributing factor is a patient's support network.
        • Met a lady who is 12 years out and 7 lbs. away from her goal — She only missed 4 support group meetings in the 12 years!
    • I really want to prove to myself before revision that I can change.
      • The surgery is just the building blocks, I have to do the hard work to build the beautiful house/temple...
        • On prenatal vitamins, protein shakes instead of meals and clean eating
          • No grazing, set meal schedule, no distractions (eating mindfully)
        • Trying to get into the Bio Oil regimen (thank you for the recommendation) so I can stay consistent after revision
    • Iron infusions scheduled weekly for 8 weeks (7/11/19 - 8/29/19) so will probably be attending half those sessions after surgery?
      • Depends on where my iron is when I get labs and surgery date that will be set on August 1st
  14. One week post-revision, down 5 lbs since surgery day.....which puts me back under 300. VICTORY!!! Still a ways to go but I'll take every little win I can get. Feeling great other than minor abdominal discomfort.

  15. 5 days post-op revision from VSG to MGB. Back home, feeling great. No more gas pain. Only minor discomfort in the abdominals, rather like after having done a bunch of sit-ups. Definitely don't feel like eating anything. Don't even have the boredom hunger like I had before. Fluids are going down ok though so that's good. Going back to work tomorrow. Wish me luck.

  16. Went to my initial consult with the Bariatric surgeon/ program I chose. Came home with a folder full of information & helpful organization of all the testing that needs to be completed while I complete the required nutritional counseling. She also let me know my insurance typically takes 6 weeks to reply with authorization when submitted, so that puts my potential surgery date near the new year if all stays on track :770_yellow_heart: I felt comfortable with her, in our discussions she agrees that I am a good candidate for the Gastric Bypass. I appreciated the 'introduction' class that was given after the consult with the surgeon where I was given this binder of every referral (from her, not my pcp referrals), & contact information for all the testing needed to make my contacts/calls tomorrow morning even easier:1356_pray_tone2: I start my nutrition classes on June 5th, so that's when the clock will start toward insurance approval & getting the tool to help me reach my goals:323_star2:

  17. I am new to bariatric pal and find it a bit overwhelmed .... where to start? I’m deciding between gastric sleeve and gastric bypass, have fatty liver, hyperaldosteronism, hypertension, sleep apnea... I hope to decide this fairly soon and get my  surgery scheduled. Glad to be here and getting around a bit. I a 279 and have about 120 lbs to lose as I’m 5’ 7”. Thanks for listening!

15 days until surgery? Congrats! If there is anything I've learned about RNY, its not a miracle cure all. But here's the good news! Prior to surgery I would knock myself out trying to lose weight, with very little results. Now, I work just as hard to lose weight and am rewarded with fantastic weightloss. So, don't think the surgery is going to magically cause the weight to come off. Those whom I observed who think this have very little weightloss. Instead, realize that the surgery changes the playing field, giving you a leg up toward weightloss success, so long as you are still willing to work at it. If so, you will do fabulous. I recommend keeping a log of everything you eat, good and bad, and weigh every single day. By doing this, you will learn much about your body and how food intake affects the sale one way or the other and you will learn the boundaries unique to you and your body alone and what you can and cannot do in order to successfully lose the weight. Best wishes!! 🙂

  18. Gastric banded March 2013, lost lbs. Had removed Dec. 2016 due to complications of hernia. Had band removed with fundoplication.

Gained back weight wasn't happy. Started journey again cause i was determined so on had 1Feb 2019, nissen takedown with hernia repair with Roux-en-y gastric bypass!

revision to Roux-en-y - glad things are moving along well - good luck kathy

  19. My ACL revision surgery went great! Surgical center was on point. I did a million things ahead of time (groceries, medication, etc) This time is less painful, better meds and best of all, I have a Cryo Cube. An ice box thing that circulates cold water around my knee to cool it, for pain and swelling. It is the bomb.com! I am not looking forward to PT & it stinks that I am going to lose so much of my summer. Hopefully I can do more stuff, like Tango when this is done. I wish it was WLS surgery, I have to wait until November for that. ($$).

  20. They should have in the type of surgery option "Revision" because it looks weird to say you lost over 100 lbs. and you just had surgery a month ago.

There's another wrinkle or layer to the stats section. Some people actually lose oodles of weight before having any surgery. Often they're people who started at 400+.

@proudgrammy hehe this time I was just looking at one of my posts today, and thought, that really looks odd. :) ty ^^

@WLSResources/ClothingExch So very true, like during pre-op diets. Some of those people are so amazing to lose so much weight on their own. I struggled big time :P:)

  23. My Bariatric Life

My Bariatric Life before weight loss and plastic surgeries

My Bariatric Life had gastric bypass surgery in July 2003. At that point in her life, she weighed 285 pounds, wore a size 24W, and was on ~10 prescription medications for obesity-related illnesses including diabetes and hypertension. Today My Bariatric Life has a BMI of 23 and wears a size 2 or 4. She is free from hypertension and diabetes and off 9 of 10 of those prescription medications. She owes her life to gastric bypass, plastic surgery, Paleo diet and exercise.
