Can’t drink protein shakes! Post op
shedo82773 replied to KrystalRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use GENEPRO unflavored protein. I know some don't like it but I use it daily. I would never get it all in otherwise. I put it in my Coffee everyday. It has no taste at all. And 30grams. I had searched high and low for something I can handle. I would hate to know exactly how much $$ I have spent. I got tired of everything sweet. Good Luck -
I am also finding my balance on carbs as well. Almost 7 months post op here. At 2-3 months I never ever had room for more than a touch of fruit or a little qinoa. But I've found that eating a bit more carbs seems to boost my weight loss. My carbs come from: a slice of 100% whole wheat bread, wasa crisps, pea crisps, Greek yogurt, sweet potato, fruits and vegetables. So it's never higher carb and lower Protein at a given meal. It's more that I have room to add in more of these healthy carbs without reducing my protein. Oatmeal is a tricky one. I'd also say only whole oats or steel cut. No instant oats. And if you can add protein to it-cook in milk or add GENEPRO, better. But oatmeal is very filling and will impact your ability to get in any additional protein at that meal. (I think it's more appropriate in the first 6 weeks as you are adjusting to food then it is during the bulk of the weight loss stage.) All of that said, track. If you are tracking, and your weight loss doesn't slow down with oatmeal twice a week, great. But don't go to daily oatmeal right away. And if it makes you start craving other carbs, think about it it's really a good choice.

I can only say how genepro helped me. I went back 2 work 2 weeks after surgery and genepro saved my life because it was the only thing I could keep down and my blood pressure started to get better after I began to take this and I still take it.

@@Ldyvenus I'm glad you mentioned the Syntrax...I ordered the variety pack and I think the cappuccino flavor is still in the pantry! I'll try that one tomorrow. I've used almond milk in my coffee, but it's still not quite what I'm looking for. Right now, I'm making an espresso, steaming a cup of Fairlife milk and adding a scoop of GENEPRO to it, but I'd love to find something with fewer steps for first thing in the morning. One day I'm going to burn the heck out of myself steaming the milk

Thinning Hair - I know due to protein, but seeking advice PLEASE!!
etc. etc. etc. replied to Aginn10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
GenePro is a little controversial in the bariatric community. Some people swear by it. But they've been sued as a scam, too. All I'll say is that they say you get 30g of protein out of a single tablespoon. And a tablespoon is 12.5 grams. They say they have reasons why that makes sense and maybe they do, but it sure makes you wonder. -
So I'm 6 weeks post and really really dislike Protein shakes. Always have. I've found 2 favorite go-to that I have daily to get in at least 30 grams protein and actually love them. First is sugar free pistachio pudding made with fairlife milk and GENEPRO. It mixes very well since mix cold (I did not like Protein powder mixed in SF Jello personally) and makes 4 servings which I estimate I get 30-35 grams from one per day. Find your favorite flavor! Second is fage plain Greek yogurt with a scoop of Click Brand Mocha protein powder which gives me about 35 grams. I either have as a meal or a snack depending on the day. I had unjury in my tomato soup yesterday and could not taste it at all. However, I have not tried the Genepro. Does anyone know of a genepro sample? mom2kandh Day 2 of 3 day pre-op diet

There was a lawsuit and GenePro lost. Because it was found that the listed amounts of protein per serving were greatly inflated, so they were lying to people.

That's a reasonable way of looking at it. Although it's likely less than 17g of protein (it list 58 calories, so you're probably talking about 14g of protein a serving maybe 13) Which makes genepro incredibly overpriced as well as being disingeous. I still think youre better off finding a protein maker who is more honest and upfront , but if you're adamant on it I think it's OK as long as you're looking at it the way you are.

No, but I will look into that and Isopure which was also recommended. That one said you could bake with it. I don't usually do pancakes but my kids and husband like them, so with my husband and me I do 2 eggs, 1/2 cup flaxseed meal, 2 scoops genepro, and one mashed banana for taste and I think 1/2 a tsp for rising. (I made it up) I don't do gluten and one pancake or less and I'm done, it makes six. But if I counted the 30 grams per scoop each pancake had 14 grams of protein. So I guess I am looking for one I can use to put in things to bake or cook with

Ae2018- my surgery is in 5 days. No pre-op diet for me but I am watching my food intake. Clear liquids only the day before. I am fairly certain protein shakes will be too sweet for me post op and I have GenePro protein powder which I tried with chicken bullion, not a fan. I plan on making Jell-O shots this weekend with it. I tried chicken broth soup from Unjury and LOVED it so I ordered plenty. I’m trying to stay out of the public as much as possible due to it being cold and flu season and I am not trying to get sick and have surgery postponed so I have stocked up on crystal light and flavored waters as well.

This is one egg , 1/2 Genepro protein powder, a handful of baby spinach, and a tbsp mozzarella cheese. The protein powder really fluffs up the egg. 148 calories and 25 g of protein. I ate it all except for a few bites. -

Do you mix the Genepro with water first to dissolve it ? Or just put it in the liquid egg? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

Morning Nausea
Naughty Glitter Goddess replied to LesbianDad30's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've always been a breakfast eater and that stopped cold turkey since surgery (aug). I'm not nauseous in the mornings anymore but breakfast just sounds terrible. And when I force myself to eat it, I don't feel well. I do drink a protein coffee with Fairlife milk, coffee, genepro and SF toriani in the mornings. Eat my first real meal after the gym, 9 or 10am. My nutritionist does not love that plan but says I can go with it for now if I make sure to eat a small snack after dinner. They're not kidding when they say EVERYTHING changes. Good luck on your recovery and congrats on you surgery. Feels great to take excellent care of yourself! -
Post-op aversion to protein drinks?
Suzp replied to Mrs. Mercedes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks Post Op - almost immediately I just could not stomach the Protein Shakes. I hate artificial sweeteners now. I have moved on to the Genepro Protein powder. You can get a two serving sample from Amazon to try. I know Amazon and GNC sell it. Its tasteless and dissolves so you have no idea it in whatever you choose to add it to. I add it to Crystal Light Lemonade. I know there are some that add it to soups and potatoes, and all sorts of things. -
25, mom of 2 and sleeving soon
yerawizardamy replied to harley_quinn25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The surgery went well from what I was told and no strictures, leaks, or hernias yet! However, recovery has been very difficult. Only this past Tuesday did I start feeling better both mentally and physically. I'm having issues with puree food (make me feel like I need to lie down/sour stomach) so I've gone back to full liquids mainly (soft cheese doesn't negatively effect me). I'm going to start reintroducing some pureed food one at a time, to see what I can tolerate and what I can't. I was having trouble getting my Protein in and I just couldn't stomach the RTD Premier Protein so I ordered GENEPRO which has 30g of protein per tablespoon and is unflavored. It's been a game changer for me! Now I have no problem getting the 60g I need. I've also started to see a therapist which I think will be helpful. I was expecting to have some difficulties mentally but they really are much bigger than I anticipated. Anyway! Hope your recovery is going well!! Each day really does get better. ???? -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
GettingThereOneDay replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Little late to the group but better late than never I had my surgery June 23rd. I've lost 33 lbs total so far but 15 lbs of that was on my pre op diet. I'm still on liquids till Thursday then I go to puréed foods & I can't wait!! I've had several dreams of real food! I couldn't stomach the premier Protein shakes after surgery they just felt heavy in my stomach so GENEPRO and fair life chocolate milk has been my savior. I'm over the sweet though! And have to admit I may have licked a potato chip just for some salty goodness! I know it's horrible but I didn't eat it! Glad to join the group and loved reading all your posts! I also really like genepro. I tried Gatorade’s new protein water as well (it’s Gatorade zero with protein) and I really like it.
-
I use genepro in sugar free pudding for a high protein treat. I love it. I haven't found many other uses for it though.
-
I used the grape liquacel. It's a bit funky. On bariatric pal, you can get samples of many different proteins before you commit to a large order. Maybe that is the way to go to find something she'll like. Is she strictly on liquids? There are other options for protein, like yogurt, soups with unflavored protein powder (genepro is good). I really like the bariatric pal protein shots in cran grape, pink lemonade, and apple. I hope you find something.

non-sweet protien options 8 days post op liquid phase
dolly30gs replied to AZgrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am 8 days post op and sick of sweetness. I bought genepro unflavored protein, put a half scoop in beef broth AFTER I heat it up and bam! 15gm protein for lunch and dinner. I also bought bariatric pal box of beef broth and it is sooo much more flavorful than store bought and comes with 15gm already. The chicken is nasty but I love the beef. -
Surgery 6/21, down 40 lbs so far, absolutely no issues with anything so far. Going to Disney end of this month, at the 3 month mark, and also have the dining plan. I plan to enjoy myself but still try to make certain I get enough protein and exceeed my daily water needs. I’m taking my Genepro protein powder and some sugarfree pudding cups (the non-refrigerated ones), so if I don’t feel like I made my protein for the day it’s easy enough to add 10-30g of protein to a cup of pudding before bed. Since you’re with so many others you won’t be wasting food when you can’t finish more than a small portion of your meal cuz they can help out lol. Especially the free dessert with dinner. Enjoy a bite or two, if your tummy can handle it than share with others. Same with the alcohol. I don’t drink but get a wine with my dinners and my husband can enjoy it after I try a sip or two. I’m at least 50-60 lbs own from last trip there a few years ago and looking forward to not worrying about if I’ll fit ok in the rollercoaster seats. Last time missed out on one of them. Stay safe in the storm right now, Good luck with your surgery and have an awesome vacay!!

Hey Everyone, My surgery is next week and I want to make sure I have everything together. Has anyone tried Genepro? Can I start Genepro week 1 after surgery in my clear liquids? Has anyone tried Genepro in just plain water? What are some clear & regular liquids that have been your favorite? I'm not crazy about Powerade Zero but I guess I can try it again. If I cant stomach it before surgery I cant imagine I will be able to after. I need some of your favorite clear liquids such as powered zero, crystal light, Mio, Etc. I also could use some ideas for the full liquids. I know which protein drinks I like but I'm lost when it comes to the best soups, fruit juices, and veg juices. Thanks for your help! PS I don't cook much so grab and go is best but will make from scratch if I need.

Eating at 5 weeks post op

@@Anabean I am 5 1/2 weeks out and I have one shake a day and then put a scoop of GENEPRO in something for another meal .....sigh. I hate the shakes and it's a pain to drink them but that's the only way to get the Protein for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
