    Let's chat

I am at work and bored. haha Spending my day messing around online. I am salary so I could leave, but the guy who works under me is out sick so if something important came up no one would be here to do it. So, as the dedicated awesome (time wasting) employee I am... here I sit. I never cared for greek yogurt unless it is mixed in something for cooking. Honestly Danimals tubes were always my favorite. I w ould even freeze them for a snack. But now, too much sugar.. booo I ate a lot of refried beans in my pureed stage. Also, egg salad.

I’m on work leave and I am bored too 🤣 today I moved into the mushy stage. My diet expanded to being able to have: fat free refried beans, low fat ricotta or cottage cheese, and eggs 🍳 I had 2tbs of beans for breakfast and it was way better than it should have been 🤣 I was so tired of yogurt. Days 3-6 my options were yogurt, hot cereal. I hate hot cereal. So I ate yogurt and was over it. Moving on up!

Well if you like ranch the Bolthouse farms ranch is made from yogurt so it’s only 45 calories and it’s good.

Yea. I mostly got them because I found a yogurt salad dressing that I like and it’s only 45 calories for 2 TBSP. So I was going to take it with me when I go out to eat. I was just surprised how tiny that cup is. I think I have been having a couple servings. At least it’s just 45 calories though. But now I know why they say not all salads are created equal. I used to use regular ranch and a lot of it. Probably worse than a cheeseburger.

    Food Before and After Photos

Been doing these daily bentos. They're small little portions, perf for wls. I got this bento from a Japanese goods store. The biggest one is about 400 ml, about 1.6 cups (because im American lol) and the smallest one holds 180 ml or .75 cups/3/4. I get about 40 grams of protein depending on the food combo in them. Im a vegetarian so here I have vegan jerkey, vegan breadless chicken strips, edamame beans and white cheese. Got some veggies and fruit for fiber, some baked fries, and a serving of these no sugar added dark chocolate gems for dessert. I supplement the rest with a protein yogurt an/or protein shake. Takes me anywhere from 70-90 grams of protein daily. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Hi everyone. I am exactly 1 week post op today and I feel like I didn't even have surgery because I'm still waking up with the same hunger pains I had before surgery. I'm hungry all day. Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do to calm this hunger? I'm still on the liquid diet so it's protein shakes, pudding, jello, yogurt, and water all day long... I'm so hungry all day that I'm tempted to eat real food, but I refuse to cheat. Any advice would help. Thanks. Sent from my moto g stylus 5G using BariatricPal mobile app

    Favorite Grocery Products

I've been enjoying banza and oikos since I could eat soft foods. Banza has a little added protein which compliments your main source of protein well or have with some vegetables. The oikos always helps me reach my protein goal. No added sugar and tastes pretty good. I also like these hu chocolate gems. Sometimes I add 1/2 a serving to my vanilla yogurt as a "dessert". They have about 4 grams of sugar per half serving. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

What to eat in the soft food stage?

I am allowed to have soft boil egg with a little mayo, sweet potato, mash potatoes, Greek yogurt, refried beans and recently tried the ricotta cheese bake.
  9. Yasso Frozen Greek yogurt bars. They sell them at Walmart near the ice cream and the mint chocolate chip is my favorite.

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?

I was drinking protein shakes from the morning after I got home from the hospital, also sugar free smooth greek yogurt (no fruit bits!). I could do a protein shake in about a half hour right away, but I couldn't finish a full yogurt in one sitting. I never liked the protein water - they tasted unpleasantly thick to me, and protein powders were so gritty. I still drink Fairlife Nutrition Plan and Core Power sometimes.
  11. Ate silken tofu, soups, hummus, jello pistachio sugar free with cashew milk, mashed potatoes, oat bran, yogurt, cottage cheese with taijima spice. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Constant Gout

Flares of all types are common after surgery. Anything that is inflammation based can flare after surgery. I don't have gout, but my father does. He can't take the normal gout meds like you take due to kidney issues. So he takes tart cherry extract. His comes in a capsule. I'm not sure if it's a vegan capsule or not, but nonetheless you could pour the contents into yogurt, or water, or something like that. When he flares up really bad he takes steroids. So your doctor could administer a steroid injection. That would be safer post surgery than steroid pills. I'd reach out to your prescribing doctor or your bariatric team. You don't want to keep the inflammation going when you're trying to heal. And you don't want to be a fall risk now either with fresh incisions.

What to eat in the soft food stage?

I was allowed to have ground meat at soft foods, but check with your surgery center. I am 8 months out and I still eat a lot of ground meat because it's easier for me to eat. I ate a lot of sugar free Greek yogurt, refried beans, cheese, eggs, chili, fish, etc. Your nutritionist should be able to give you some ideas, but one thing I found is that I didn't like eating for the first few months after surgery, even though I was hungry. It hurt to eat and food didn't taste good. I just did it anyway.

    What's Your Food Nemesis?

You could make your own Tzatziki from fat free Greek yogurt. High in protein and good for you. I have it on anything not just chips

    May Surgery Buddies

I was 5/6 too. My incision where the drain was hurts the worst. Nausea is tolerable. Walking helps feel less stiff and full of gas. Passing gas and burping are highly encouraged to work all that air out. My program has us doing 30z clear fluid until tomorrow. Tomorrow has to be 50-64 clears and we are allowed 1 Greek yogurt.

    Throwing up

So i had issues with my horse pill sized Calcium pill (that i had to take 3 times a day!) I would make me nauseous and/or barf. Cutting it up smaller or crushing it somehow made the ickiness worse. Then i stared burying that effing pill in a tablespoon of greek yogurt and swallowing the spoonful and that did trick. Took me almost 2 months to figure this out though. But then I discovered those chocolate calcium soft chews and Calcium Vitamin Time became a good time of day lol
  17. Hi all: I’m hanging out in June SB because I am hoping against hope that my surgery date is mid June. My Results visit is 5/16 and I hope to get the date at that visit. Cigna has had my insurance packet for 1 week. Doctor’s office says they take 2 weeks to study it. I began the liver shrinking diet on Tuesday, 5/3 (per doctors office) and I’m down 6 lbs which is nothing short of a miracle for me. A typical eating plan in a day is 2 Atkins Plus shakes, 1 or 2 Oikos yogurts, an Aldi Shrimp meal (140 calories), 64oz water and sugar free ice pops. I WAS hungry on Day 4-yesterday- but I dropped 2 lbs overnight which explains that. I’m using vitamin patches because they are easy and convenient. My nutritionist said they are not effective but drinking all that water makes the thought of swallowing pills impossible. I get blood drawn in one month and any positive change in my levels means the patches are okay. We’ll see. Good luck to all…I am having RNY LAP with hiatal hernia repair. Oh, yeah, endoscopy scheduled tentatively for 5/20. Keep your surgery and recovery stories coming. I learn so much from them.

    May 2022 surgery?

Ten days away! May 16th and I am SUPER excited. I haven't had too many issues with the liquid and protein shake diet. I'm allowed one egg a day, one serving of non fat Greek yogurt, and one 8 ounce glass of 1% or unsweetened almond milk. I did cheat last night and had one bite of steak from my husband's steak fajitas he made, but so far so good! I had pre-surgical bloodwork done yesterday and the results show that my glucose and A1C are nearly out of the pre-diabetic range so I am SUPER excited about that and really motivated to continue. Best of luck to all! 🙂

I will eat real food again right?

The pre-op diet is the hardest part. After surgery, it's hard to even get the "food" down, but by the time you get to purees, you'll love that refried beans or Greek yogurt or ricotta bake! They will taste like "real food." Every plan is different, but by the time I was one month out I was eating most things except carbs and salad. Food didn't taste good then, and it was hard to eat, not gonna lie! However, by four months out, I was able to eat and enjoy real food easily, although I was still limiting carbs and lettuce was really hard. I'm now 8 months out and unfortunately, I've started back with more carbs than is ideal, but I am still doing well. You WILL eat real food again, but hopefully healthier food and smaller portions!

    May 2022 surgery?

Your dietitian should give you a meal plan. 1-2 weeks clear liquid. Broth, sugar free jello, protein waters, 1-2 oz per hour. After 1 week you should have another appointment with your surgeon. He may tell you to go to : Low-fat strained creamed soup Light yogurt Pudding, and protein shakes week 3-4 you may move to puréed food. Mostly protein foods. No heavy fiber vegetables though, like broccoli. Cooked very soft sweet potatoes carrots etc…then purée. Week 5-6. Start with protein-rich foods, such as chicken, fish, turkey, beans and eggs. Around week 5, you can add some vegetables and fruits. Chew until mushy. Don’t forget. Chew chew chew. Don’t drink 30 min before or after a meal. Soft foods are another step closer to eating solid foods, and are introduced around weeks 6-8. These include cooked or canned lean meats, fish, and certain vegetables and fruit. Please consult with your surgeon first. Everyone is different and so are doctors. What I listed is a basic guide. Try tiny bites first. And wait a min. See if you feel like you can tolerate (example:eggs, fish, beef). I’m 61. My surgery date is May 27, for my sleeve. I wish you all the best.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

I agree…this experience and others in the past when I’ve done MediFast, day 3 seems easier than the first 2 days. I think that is partly because carbohydrates make one want MORE carbohydrates. Eliminate the carbs, and I find that much if not all of my hunger goes away. Today is day 3 for me. 2 shakes and a small leafy green salad with some protein. A Greek yogurt if I need a snack. I’m way under 1000 calories. And I’m fine. I’ve dropped 1/2 lb…I know I am a slow loser. But my students today were telling me that I look like I am losing weight. 🤷🏻‍♀️ what can I say?

One more try before surgery again

I can eat about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of food at a time (I am 9 weeks post op). No I cannot physically feel like anything has been done to me. Currently, I am trying to avoid processed carbs, foods with high sodium content, and high fat foods unless it good fat like an avocado. I don't eat any bread except a extremely tiny piece (about two bites) of good sourdough bread at a nice Sunday dinner. I focus on getting my protein in first and then eating veggies. Most of the time I cannot eat many if any veggies. Snacks are a yogurt or light string cheese with some almonds or fruit. The recovery was more painful than I had thought it would be but by day 10 or so I was almost normal. I did have a large hiatal hernia that was repaired so that is probably why my recovery took a little longer and was more painful.

    5 Weeks Post-Op

Hello all! I know everyone’s journey is different and we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others but I’m curious… I am 5 weeks post op. I am able to eat just about anything; chicken, fish, cheese, fruits, cooked vegetables, potato, sugar free yogurt all 3-4 ounces at a time or less. All with the okay from my doctor and nutritionist. I would have guess I should’ve been feeling more discomfort and more restrictions. Did this happen to anyone?

    You are all my buddies

You’ve got this! I’m 67, 40 BMI, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, high cholesterol…I’m sure I’ve forgotten something. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I would love to lose 100 lbs and that is my goal. I didn’t think of this sooner, because I considered bariatric surgery something that 700 lb people did…not 220 lb people. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Who knew? I’m hoping for a surgery date of June 9th or after…I’ll be out of school by then. I see my surgeon for my results visit in 2 weeks. I had a lot of pre-procedure testing. My insurance company should have made a decision by that visit and I can get a surgery date. Today I started the liver shrinking diet per doctors orders. He wants me on it for 2 weeks when I see him so he can gauge my progress. I survived today with only one moment when I thought I would cave. It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and there is food everywhere…but I did fine. Shakes, Greek yogurt, lettuce salad with broiled chicken for dinner. I’ve almost had my 64 Oz of water and I’m under 750 calories. I do well with structure so following these eating plans is good for me. Good luck to you and welcome!
