Pam – In the pre-op classes for the post-op meal plan they taught both measuring by weight and by size (cups) for band patients. My binder has it done both ways for band patients, not sure why but some food is measured by weight and other stuff is measured by size. For Sleeve they make sure it is all measured by size only. I had my first real what you guys call PB’ing today. I was so tired of Purees I decided to have a very small amount of Boston Market Chicken and mashed potatoes. I really had just a small amount, about 1/3 cup of food total. It will take me a week to finish the one plate I bought. Well everything went down ok and I was pleased as I’ve had some thick soups that went down and I felt pressure of such a small stomach. I had about 1/3 cup of white meat chicken, mashed potatoes and corn bread. All of it fit into a 1/3 cup. I chewed it very well. About ten minutes later I was salivating over the sink for ten minutes. I burped a couple times which made me feel better so I went to sit down. Bad move because a few minutes later I ran for the sink and everything I ate came back up. Sorry for the TMI. What was so different was it was such a slow regurgitation. I was a bit scared. I’m only a couple days away from moving to soft foods so I hope this gets better as it was not fun! I guess this is what I get for moving ahead a couple days early. Going to talk to the doc next week about the incident. Sleeve patients are supposed to be able to eventually eat about a cup of food in one sitting. I hope everyone if having a wonderful weekend! Looking forward to hearing about the wedding!

Oh, I forget - I had my Robin appt today and I move to Stage IV on Wed. Can't wait to be able to chew something! Also, in the spirit of TMI - I've lost 4 inches off my bra size (actually skipped a size) - but my hubby is happy since my cup size is the same! -
Took a few days for me to go to the bathroom..........TMI but you asked. The port will hurt for awhile. Mine was still swollen at 6 weeks. But eventually it goes down and the pain fades out. I can still feel the port but it doesn't bug me unless I move wrong than it sorta hurts until I move again.....but even though I thought it would never stop hurting ......one day I just realized it doesn't bother me anymore..............

Not that I should probably admit this here... But a friend of mine (cute friend, but as I am married, just a friend) was asking me about this the other day and I mentioned this thread. She laughed and asked "how could it get bigger". I explained it really doesn't get any bigger but an 80 story building looks bigger and is more "visible" when surrounded by single story homes. But surround it with 60 story buildings and it doesn't look like much. She couldn't quite grasp what I was explaining (figuratively not literally) and asked to see it. I obliged and explained (pardon the TMI here) that before I could grab it at it's "visible" base with one hand and all you could see is hand. With the weight loss and it being very noticeable in that area I can do the same thing with both hands and still have some left over. I've never been particularly modest and in my pre-obese college days was nekked as much as I could be and get away with. Needless to say she seemed well, impressed by the end result and couldn't stop talking about it. As I said earlier I had forgotten what I originally had. But it has become a bit of a problem because not only is it much more noticeable it also is reacting a lot more like it did when I was younger. Instead of needing some effort to wake the giant up, he's bolting out of bed like a like a 16 year old ADD patient with a double Red Bull. Of course that's a bit of a problem at times as well. Sometimes he's got a mind of his own at the wrong times. But yes, market it this way and every man with a qualifying BMI would be signing up. Before and After pics (you can blind-fold the dudes for privacy) on a big billboard? As

Uhhh!! If I smelled pizza...I might spontaneously combust! Lol. No, but honestly I ate 2 bites of cottage cheese the other day too fast and it was sooo painful!! Then I threw up, well, just wretched and spit (tmi and gross, I know) about 10 times and so other people's food is not appealing to me at all since that happened! I'm terrified it will happen again! But once I get over the fear...who knows? -
Sharp stinging and burning pains
Tiffany Winn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Tuesday and came home Thursday afternoon.. I've been in pain since I got home. Mainly on my left side. When I pull myself into a sitting position, get up, or sit down. My left side burns and has a stinging pain. Is this normal? I usually have to take the pain medication they gave me every 4-6 hours on the dot because of this pain alone. I get my drain removed Monday and will be asking her about this. I was just wondering if it's normal. Or if anyone else had it. I think the hardest part of things has been the pain. I questioned myself a day after surgery, wondering if this was the smartest decision. I also have tons of gas and grumbling. And really loose stool, diarrhea, and grumbling before I actually let loose. (Sorry if that's TMI.) I hope all these start to go away. So tired of feeling like this already. -

Candice, scratch, scratch...sorry, been there, occasionally called 'crotch rot', I know TMI Anyway, I haven't had any blood work done for several years. I knew it was bad, so why get it tested to find out it is still bad. Up until lately, I had so many drs. poking, proding, and flayling me open that I didn't really want to have anything to do with them for a long time. I know I will be going back soon. My doc holds my prescriptions for ransom. But I delay it as long as possible. I usually can get the pharmacy to fill things for an extra couple of months. However, I know she is going to want to take my estrogen away, and right now...over my dead night sweat body. I did reduce the level in half this year, maybe I'll go for a quarter next year. I have always used the patch, but this year I am going to have to go back to the pills, the patch costs me $60 per month and I can get the pills for under $10. I know Steph, I got so ticket off at how the ex was treating DD#4 that I couldn't even get past my anger. I need to figure out what EXACTLY she needs and then send it out there. Nag me okay. Send DD#5 off to college tomorrow. I am really bummed that I can't help her move in. It is my fir PIR day at school and the rule is..."Thou shall only be excused if dead!" So after school I will head in to see that she is settled and maybe take her out to dinner. It is only 20 miles away, but she is such a social bug it really is like 1000 miles away. We will rarely see her. Took the puppies for their walk and then mowed the yard and north 40. After DD#4 gets back home with my car I am heading into school. Need to unload thos boxes of school stuff I brought home for the summer and NEVER touched. Yeah like I ever do. Some day I will realize that and just skip bringing stuff home. Cooking stir-fry for DD#5's 'last supper', her favorite. On the exercise thing, I am walking 4 miles a day. Tomorrow I will ride my bike to school and back. Not very far, only a total of 6 mi. -

Good Morning! Looks like another beautiful day in the desert! Just PB'd on my coffee... right in to my lap! What fun----coffee slime! Sorry.... TMI!! Prompted by a coughing fit.... cough still holding on even though other symptoms are gone. Not bad, but always troublesome in the morning. Good thing I had a box of kleenex within reach! Earl spoke this morning... as he went out the door.... are you ready for this.... "SEE YOU AT THE POOL"!! WOW!! There was a hidden message in it, I'm sure... because I was 5 minutes late yesterday and he HATES when that happens!! LOL! Let's see... do I remind him that it's beading day or just not show up back at the RV until 2 or 3 pm after the pool!?? Decisions, decisions!! HAHAHA! I'm SO bad! -
Hello all, I got through my surgery and 2 weeks of recovery just fine. I thought I would post a detailed description of how it went because I know how apprehensive I was about the whole thing, and I really wanted to know exactly what to expect. February 23 was the date of my surgery. I was having the gastric sleeve procedure, a hernia repair, and my gall bladder removed. I had these procedures done in Downers Grove, IL by Dr. Rosen. I had to arrive at the hospital at 5:00 am. They weighed me and put me in a room where I was asked to put on the hospital gown and get in the hospital bed. They then put an IV in my hand and put the compression stockings on my legs. I was given a couple of shots (I'm not entirely sure what they were for). Every time a nurse stopped in I had to repeat my name and date of birth and they had to check my wrist band. All this happened over the course of 2 hours. I was allowed to have one person in the room with me and we pretty much just chatted in the in between times of the nurses visits. At about 6:45 am the surgeon stopped by to review the procedures we were doing. I also met with the anesteologist. My surgery was scheduled for 7:00 am, and at about 7:05 am they started to wheel me to the operating room. I did make them stop at the bathroom because I was nervous and really felt the need to go one last time. Up until this point, I had been very calm and at peace with my decision. My heart rate had been right around 65 the whole time. But now I was extremely nervous. They wheeled the bed through what felt like 20 different corridors. We arrived in the operating room. It was COLD and smelled funny. They had me move to the bed they would be doing the surgery on. I lay there and looked up at these 3 huge lights (reminded me of old movies where the police were interrogating you and they had that big bright light in your face) and I started to really freak out. I kept thinking that this was going to be the last place I would ever see (I was so nervous about the idea of dying that the night before I wrote goodbye letters to all my friends and family). I started to cry and the nurses and doctors tried to comfort me, but I can't say it really worked. I would say that they knocked me out within about 2 minutes of when I started crying. The next thing I remember is waking up in a considerable amount of pain. I believe it was around 10:30 am. The nurse wanted to know my level of pain on a scale of 1-10. I told her 6-7. I also told her I had to go to the bathroom. It was horrifically painful to have them lift my hips to put the bedpan under me, and in the end, I couldn't go anyway. I stayed in the recovery area for 3 hours because they didn't have any regular rooms ready. For the most of the time I slept and the pain medication kicked in, so I didn't feel so crappy. Finally, at about 1:00 pm, I was taken to my room. I again pretty much slept and i would say that with the morphine, my pain was about a 2. I didn't feel bloated from gas. My biggest problem was a constant need to pee... major inflamation due to the catheter. In fact, the need to pee was so overwhelming that by 4:00 pm, I forced myself to get out of bed and try to go to the bathroom again. Getting out of the bed was incredibly painful. As long as I was not moving in bed, I felt fine, but getting out of bed hurt! I became incredibly nauseous when I sat up and I told them I needed a bucket in case I puked while on the toilet. I dry heaved a couple of times (that hurt like a mother!). They put something in my IV to get rid of the nausea, and I never experienced it again. I still wasn't able to go to the bathroom, but as long as I was up, they had me walk a lap. I pretty much had to get up every hour from that point on to try and use the bathroom. Most of the time, I would also walk a lap. I should add, that they put some blue dye in the ice chips so that when I was able to pee, it was bright green. The blue dye helps them make sure you have no leaks. If there is a leak, the blood in the drain would turn purple. If there is no leak, then your pee will be green. Around 5:30 pm, I went to radiology where they made me drink something that really left me feeling like I might hurl. After I got that down, I had to do the barrium drink. That wasn't as gross. The cool thing was that I could see the screen so I could watch the Fluid move down my throat and into my stomach. I was down there for about 10 minutes and then it was back up to my room. At 10 pm the nurse came in to tell me I had to give myself my first heprin shot (my dr. requires all patients to give themselves 3 shots of heprin a day for 2 weeks following surgery). The idea of injecting myself with something really freaked me out, but I knew I had to do it or they wouldn't release me from the hospital. I had to give myself the shot in either my thigh or my stomach. I did the thigh. It took me a while to work up the nerve to put the needle in my leg, but I did it. It wasn't really painful and I would say that by day 3 after surgery, it was no big deal to do anymore. They also checked by blood sugar level which was 159! This completely freaked me out because one of the big reasons I wanted this surgery was to prevent diabetes, which runs heavily in my family. Because the blood sugar level was so high, I had to get a insulin shot. They had to check the sugar level every 6 hours after that. The next time they checked it was 139 and the time after that it was 88. They told me that sometimes surgery causes your blood sugar levels to spike, but it will usually drop back down to where it should be by the next day. That night I had to sleep with some tubing below my nose because the sleep study showed I have low oxygenation in my blood when I sleep. This thing was to monitor that. A buzzer would sound if the oxygen level dropped below 90. So, every single time I would fall asleep or start to drift off, this annoying buzzer would start ringing and I would have to call the nurse to get it turned off. At 3 am I finally asked what the purpose of this was, other than making sure I didn't sleep a wink the entire night. I was even more irritated about the whole thing when she told me the buzzer didn't sound out at the nurses station. The only place it rang was in my room. I made enough of a stink about the whole thing that they changed the tubing so it was putting out oxygen and would keep the stupid alarm from ringing the second I started to sleep. I don't think I slept after that because I was awake every time a nurse came in to check a vital or give me a shot. I will say, expect to be woken up at least every 2-3 hours. The next day, they took me off the morphine and gave me a form of vicodin as a pain killer. I continued walking every hour (and going to the bathroom). The surgeon stopped by around 8:00am to check on me. He said that since I had been up moving around so much and I was doing quite well, that he was going to have them release me around 2pm (provided I could drink 4 oz of Water every hour with no problem). I had no problem with this and was ready to go, but my nurse was so ditzy that it was after 4:30 by the time I was finally released. Before I could go, they had to remove the drain, which I was really nervous about. She assured me it wouldn't hurt, but would be more uncomfortable feeling than anything. I was still braced for serious pain because friends had told me it hurt a lot. However, when she pulled it out, it really wasn't painful. It was more of a bizzare feeling because you can feel that tubing snaking around your internal organs. I think because it was only in there for a day, the skin hadn't grown around it so there was no pain. I went home. The next 4 days, I was stiff and sore. I continued taking the liquid vicodin type medicine and my pain levels were around a 2. sleeping was difficult. I slept on the couch with my back propped way up so I could be in an almost sitting position. By day 5, I stopped taking the pain medication except for at night. By day 7, I quit the pain medication all together and was able to resume driving. If I had had to, I probably could have resumed working, but I was still very easily exhausted. I took a full 2 weeks off of work because I didn't want to have to give myself injections at work. Overall, I felt like the surgery was far easier than I had expected. The only hard part was getting in & out of bed & moving position, but the more you force yourself to do it, the easier it gets. I haven't had any problems with throwing up or anything like that. Relearning how to eat has been a struggle and is my biggest focus right now. I hope this long and detailed (and in some cases TMI) story is helpful to those of you with this surgery in your future. PJTP...I'm sitting at my desk and wishing I was at home! Just came in from a 3-hour training class...snooze! I nearly fell asleep several times, which isn't good, because I was the ONLY person in the class! Somehow I made it through, and I think I'll even retain most of what I heard - as long as I practice... Susan - I wish you a speedy and pain-free recovery for both feet! Donna - I hope you are not over-filled, but please get yourself checked...I'd hate to go through that at night. TMI Alert: After having NO pb'ing so far, I've pb'ed twice in the last two days on food that gave me NO trouble prior to my first fill. I guess what I've read is true - it does take a while for the fill to 'catch up' to ya - I had my fill on January 6th, then felt a little restriction for about a week. After that, it seemed as if nothing had been done, but the past two days, I've been feeling tight. Guess I'll have to take it easy and eat even slower, chew even more and see what happens. I'm all for losing weight faster, but I can definately do WITHOUT the pb'ing - that was nasty!:cursing: -
B-Rog, That is awesome! That is so not TMI, it is something to look forward too. Now you arent going in blind sided and cutting yourself. Love it.

Brookie...I'm with you. I can't believe how awesome I feel three days out. Like you I had some pretty wicked gas. It's finally starting to find it's way outta me. Also got some diarrea (sorry if TMI) yesterday but it's actually helping me relieve the gas pain. And yes, god bless Gas X!! Walking is also a MUST!! For all you other Double V's about to be banded, remember walking is the best medicine!! I've learned quickly that my mantra for the next few weeks is going to be: WALK-SIP-REST-REPEAT!! Oh...and don't even bother getting on the scale after surgery. You are too full of gas and fluids!! Good luck to all of you who are coming up......BANDLAND KICKS ASS!! -
My Margies are frozen in the freezer, (I had one already) waiting for 7:00 toast. I have on my red fringe panties (naughty kind) I have on my pasties (Yikes) I have on my garter and black nylons I have on my 4" spike heels I have on my red long gloves The music is loud My DH is sitting with his eyes as big as quarters! At 9:00 the chef will be here to cook the lobster/steak Then we will go sit in the spa with the bubbles and another drink. After that, well, that is TMI!

Cher... We are the same My surgery was on Nov 12th... and I'm down 20 as well!!! I am feeling good... still tired and weak... as for Protein I am using the costco shakes too... I also found a great product called "Protein Blitz" it's like a Gatorade... each 20 oz bottle serves 30 grams of protein. You can find it at "The Vitamin Shoppe" or other places like GNC. This week I have stalled :-\ - Don't know if its the "3 week stall" everyone talks about or cuz I started my cycle... (TMI) Double-whammmie Lol o_O Oh well... 20 pounds is a Great start... keep me posted... Good Luck!!!! -
You're definitely too tight. For the past two fills, I've received 2 cc of Fluid, but with my last fill I couldn't stop burping when I drank a Jamba juice and some of the drink would come back up with the burp. (Nice....TMI...) Then I would hiccup. I went right back to the doctor that afternoon and explained what was happening. The nurse said all of those were bad signs. I'm learning how much is too much of a fill, but today I'm wondering if she took too much out when I went back. What everyone has already said is correct: 2 cc is a big fill and even 1 cc can make a huge difference. Heck, even 1/2 cc can make a difference. I'm learning the perfect fill is a lot like a butterfly I can't quite reach on my tippy-toes. Good luck. We'll get there.

I have been having major head hunger issues.... Well like I say it' never goes away. Well off to bed I am beat - ttyl -
Oh Phyl, I feel for you babe. I know how much your legs bother you... You have got to get that P/S ...there has got to be another one who would take Medicare or Tricare, there just HAS to be... keep looking. But I know if it were MY husband he'd freek at the $10,000 too... You can use the surgery as a Medical deduction on your income taxes right? Maybe that would convince Earl. Get the KNEE surg done now, walking and mobility are the primary issue right?.. Then perhaps you can save the money for PS or have more time to work on Earl. Damn economy, if things hadn't gone in the Sh1tter last Sept. you'd probably been able to take that out of savings.:glare: Perhaps we should think of a fundraiser? WARNING: TMI to follow..... I've been MIA for a few days. I got a bad Stomach/flu bug from a Patient... I was up Thurs night ALL night. Trying to puke but nothing would come up. Band tight. It was a horrible feeling, I was constantly worried about slippage. I prefer to just have the diarhea ... Sorry, TMI ON the up side, I should be down in weight!!! HA,HA... nothing to eat for two days.

OK - TMI coming up, but need help. Got my tubes tied with my last kid and since then I have two added problems: I crave chocolate a week before my period (I don't normally like the stuff) and my blood flow is more than it's ever been. So, after sleeping through this past week I realized last night that I'm low on iron! No wonder since I can't eat meat and usually I just have a steak or two during "that week" and that keeps me going. Any suggestions on getting my iron up? I'd like to start working out, but can't get out of bed! Ahhhh!
