    pushed it out

so i pushed off starting th C25K. i dont know why. i tried it last thursday and i made it through but it was hard. i just didnt want to do it this week. i did however do kickboxing yesterday which was fun. i am just so tired of looking at myself in the mirror. im at another plateau and i cant wait for my fill on monday. money is still an issue here with me and i hate constantly complaining about it but i am tired of losing things i worked so hard for. and to make matter worse, i dropped my google phone in the toilet here at work yesterday and now it is not working at all. oh well they turned off the service right now anyways. tony found out that he can do work for th county which does pay good money but he needs money for insurance, bonding, corporation fee, and tax id numbers which total 1600.00. i dont where we are going to get that kind of money. hell i dont know where we are going to get money for groceries. and as always i make too much to get any help. i think that this stress level is really getting to me and my weightloss. i find myself unable to sleep and wanting to eat in the middle of the night. my 5 year old is driving me nuts bc he continues to get into things that he isnt suppose to and he is soo stubborn. but i love him. he starts kindergarten this august and im so proud of him and his test results. he is 1 point away from being gifted but i know that as long as he is challenged that he will do fine. i am going to try to do a tae bo workout video in the morning before work so if i cant run i still have some sort of workout in the day. well until next time.
  2. I had mine done in July 2006 by Dr Leung in Surrey, BC. I paid approx. $14,000 and got back a couple of grand on my income tax. If you want more info, let me know.

    Eating & Fullness.

I start to feel that feeling too, a little below my chest. I have learned to stop eating when that happens, bc I don't feel "full" yet, but I know from experience now that if I keep eating, I will be miserably full for the next 30-60 minutes (I haven't thrown up since my surgery, but I've had extreme discomfort from eating too much, and I think I've learned from that.) I think you're right though, feeling 'full' now is not going to feel the same as it did before the surgery. Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. This is similar to the sample menu I was given. I understand it's a good concept but I know my dietician wanted to to start eating that way at 3 weeks. I am 8 weeks out and I have to wait at least any hour after I eat to be able to drink or I can feel it. Then I am finally able to drink about 6 oz at a time, but then I have to wait at least a half hr before I can drink more. On the days I work its hard sometimes to even get a lunch break sometimes. I do 12 hr shifts, unfortunately we've been understaffed for over a year now making it worse. But I do have to eat multiple times a day to get enough protein. Yesterday I had 2 eggs before I left for work at 6 am. While at work anytime I went to the back to grab something for a patient I passed the break room, so I stop and drink some water. Around 10 am I ate a string cheese. At 1 pm I ate a 20 gm protein bar for lunch. At 5:30 I had a Greek yogurt. When I got home at 8:30 I had 2 oz of chicken for dinner. During the day I was able to get in about 36 oz of fluid and 77 gm of protein. Ideally I shouldn't be eating dinner that late, and yes I should get more fluid in. But I feel for working on a busy floor at the hospital I did pretty good and there's no way I could've done it without snacks in between meals. I haven't gotten to the point where I'm able to add in vegetables yet though bc I get full off the protein but I know it will come in time. At home I can do a little better without the time constraints of work.

    Funny thought

Oh and I forgot to add... pretty sure this is why I’m struggling so hard to meet protein goals. Most days it’s a success if I hit 40gm protein bc I don’t have the “patience” to take what seems like forever to eat

    Rice cooker steamer

I can tolerate rice u can also make other grains too I can make rice pretty good but the other grains not so much... I Had a rice cooker steamer about 15 yrs ago and did well with it. I still have it unfortunately it no longer works properly. I also want one I can delay cook times that would be awesome bc I work till 7 sometimes 8 at night. It would be super when I came home wouldn't have to cook.

Does everyone have to do endoscopy

I had to do one, actually I don't know if it was my doctor or my insurance that required it. I have Empire BC/BS, and my surgeon was the one who did the procedure.

Now when I see MO people...

Okay so one of my friends almost died earlier this year and she’s currently needing to get on a heart transplant list, but they won’t even put her on the list due to her super-MO ( if I had to guess, I would say she’s at least 350+ pounds, and that would be a conservative guess). The answer her docs have come up with? Bariatric surgery to get off a hundred pounds or more, then she can be on a transplant list. Her prognosis without transplant? Not good at all. She’s 46 years old and they are telling her she’ll likely not see 50 without it. Her response? She’s still freaking “undecided” bc she doesn’t want to “lose her current relationship to food” It was an extremely rough convo for me to have bc she’s a highly intelligent woman, but I just can’t believe that she’s honestly thinking about allowing food to literally kill her. For the record, all I did was go over the pros and cons of WLS, and tried my best to not sound like I was trying to convince her, but dang it was tough bc i know what will happen if she doesn’t do it

Now when I see MO people...

Yeah it was after cancer scare #2 in early 2018 that I was seeing a new, young, female PCP. I was so horrified bc I was in her office seeing her for the first time and I started crying when I saw my weight. I’d managed to gain over 20 pounds in 2017 and was falling apart bc of it. She wasn’t phased at all by the fact that I’d shown up as a hot mess. In fact, she’s the one who gently asked me if I’d ever heard of/considered WLS. I was stunned bc I honestly thought that WLS was just for the super-MO people (thanks to shows like my 600 pound life) so I didn’t even realize someone like me (bouncing between 36-42% BMI) would be a candidate. If my PCP had not put that idea in my head, I would’ve never come to it on my own due to just assuming I wasn’t “fat” enough. It took me several more months of researching, checking with my insurance, going to a seminar, and—quite honestly— gaining intentionally an extra 15 pounds so I could qualify, but once the idea was there and I learned what I needed to do and determined I was ready it all fell into place. Yeah, the months leading up to surgery after the decision was made was tedious. It took me over 8 months from decision time to surgery day, but now the reward is just simply life-transforming
  14. So there is light at the end of the tunnel ) I sort of also feel fed up at this point but then there are times when u simply can't help it
  15. Jenny, I split mine up. During the week I try and do 20 minutes before work, and 20 minutes during the day, and 20 a night. Yesterday, I didn't want to exercise and was trying to get house stuff done - so I did 6 sessions of 10 minutes each. Although you don't get the cardio benefits, you are still burning calories and you are still getting exercise. Feb 3 goals 1. Walk 30 minutes - did 60 minutes 2. Follow bandster eating rules - yes 3. Fed ex mail reimbursement - no 4. Start cleaning bedroom closet - no no goals for Feb 4. but I did 60 minutes of walking Feb 5 goals 1. 60 minutes of walking 2. No eating after 7 3. Finish cleaning kitchen island and shelves 4. Journal instead of stress!!

    Docs in Maryland

Hi livn, Well, I know that the office has gone through a personnel change over the last few months. I was sort of in the middle of it and the only difficulty I had was getting them to send/fax me the list of required medical tests to my family doctor for pre op testing. It became a hassle but all worked out in the end. I'm not sure about your approval process, but a lot depends on your insurance. I met the "national standards" for obesity as required by my insurance (BC/BS Federal). Some insurances require a year of recorded dieting, thankfully mine did not. My insurance also required a "center of excellence" which does fit with GBMC. I went to GBMC at my diabetes doctor suggestion..he had 11 patients before me that had lap band surgery and all went there...another had RNY but in DC....all lap banders are doing extremely well. As for GBMC, I can't complain...except for the initial paperwork delay. Post op, I ended up back in the hospital....had surgery Friday and did well on Saturday, but on Sunday afternoon, I couldn't get liquids down....Called Dr. Mo Monday AM and he had me come straight in..here, my esophagas had swollen (very rare)..admitted me into the hospital for 1-1/2 days for IVs, was preventing dehydration, plus steroid IVs for getting the swelling down....Dr. Mo was great throughout....I've been back a few times, with no problems with the office...yet to get my 1st fill. I still have some restrictions and don't have the need yet...am losing 1-2 lbs per week so Dr. Mo and I discussed putting it off until I need it. I cancelled my December appt for a fill and will go back in January for check up. I really haven't been involved in the monthly meetings...just don't have the time to get up there....I work in DC and just adopted a greyhound that keeps me busy... I know people have complained about GBMC, but if you feel uneasy, check out all of the other places nearby...make sure you are comfortable with your choice.... I'd probably go back to GBMC over again.. GOOD LUCK !
  17. og man i feel for you.... i had it bad for about 5 days postop... i finally got fed up and took milk of magnesia... more than the required amount... that cleaned me out!... are u taking pain killers?.. the codeine in it will make u constipated so only take it if you need to... the gas will subside.. and walking helps but ready to spend some time in the bathroom if u go with milk of magnesia.

    Tricare weight requirements

Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to answer my questions. I called Triwest again today and finally got someone who could answer a few questions. I am in the Kansas City area and I also called the weight loss clinic and asked them if I could get my $150.00 back if I didn't qualify for the surgery with Tricare. They said no problem, but I think I will still get that in writing before my appt. My husband is retired Air Force and is still working so Tricare is our secondary insurance. The woman I talked to today said I would first have to get the denial from BC/BS and then send in the claim to Tricare. HOLY COW, this sure does seem like a complicated process! The weight loss clinic said they will do all the paperwork for me so I guess it can't hurt. Now all I have to do is worry about gaining a few more pounds before my appt so I can make the 100lb requirements. That shouldn't be too hard!! Thanks again for all your help.

    Getting banded 10/1/10 WOOOHOO

Thanks Tannie and congrats to you too! Well I just got back from Napa and def splurged on my fav foods since I won't be able to enjoy them again for awhile. I wouldn't say I'm "nervous" about the pre op diet.. I feel more like I'll be bored bc a lot of my social life evolves around meeting friends for drinks, dates, etc.. I can't really say want to come over for a protein martini? LOL! BUT in the big picture this is nothing, and it is worth it in the long run. So many people say they wish they would of done the surgery sooner... so I feel sooner is better than later =)
  20. Hi. It’s actually not uncommon for some WLS patients to feel depressed or anxious after surgery. As I deal with both, my nurse practitioner has been monitoring me closely. So far I’ve been well. Over time, WLS surgery can help relieve depression. So, be gentle with yourself. It can feel overwhelming bc you want to do everything perfectly. I napped daily for weeks. My biggest focus was (and still is) getting protein, fluid, and moving. I certainly wasn’t close to my 69 grams of protein initial goal nor my fluids goal. In fact, I still work hard to get it in and my surgery was 12/28/17. I saw my surgeon today and she is very happy with my progress. Of course, if your exhaustion is severe, you may need to have your iron and b-12 levels checked. Rest assured that what you’re experiencing is not uncommon. You know your body and should be concerned, please call your surgeon. That’s what he/she is there for. I’m happy to hear that you’ve moved about. Your body needs rest too and it’s perfectly fine to give it what it needs. Sending you [emoji295]️ [emoji304] and [emoji882].

    This is almost comical?almost

Well, I just faxed over my packet. Let the games begin! My BMI is just a hair over 40, so they won't reject me for being too high - I'm sure they'll think of plenty other reasons to reject me though - I'm right handed, the planets aren't aligned, my birthday is during an odd-numbered month, etc. LOL I think sometimes the downfall of the internet is that there's TOO MUCH info available. I was on obesityhelp yesterday and there was post after post from people in CA who have BC and were approved within a week or two. Then you go someplace else, and just as many people have horror stories. I can't imagine what people did 20 years ago and there was no internet and you just have to take your doctor at his word!

Not sure what's going on :(

I was banded the week before you... August 22. I have also had three fills and will be going back on Monday, 1/13. I'm not even sure as to my weight loss bc I only weigh at the doctor's office (So I guess I'll know on Monday). It's great that you're exercising on a regular basis, and it's great that you already lost 30 pounds (that's between 1 1/2 and 2 pounds a week). Personally, I think you're making great progress. I'm happy with my progress in how I feel and in how I look. This is a lifestyle and a marathon.... Not a gimmick and a sprint..... I'm so glad to finally post with someone who was banded around the same time as me!

    On my way

I had rocking bcbs too. I first saw the doc 10/30 and had surgery 12/29! I went with rny bc there are tons of converts from band, you lose faster w gastric, I like the malabsorption part and you have an 80% chance of having dumping syndrome (a good thing in my book to help curve cravings, but I've yet to have an episode- or cravings! Plus there's 50 years of data on the success of rny versus sleeve. Actually those were my options. My doc (a leader and author in the field- Dr. Garth Davis- has a great book. Necessary read for anyone considering) won't even do band any more.
