    Stall

There's a link in my sig to a good article that explains your 3 week stall and why it's happening. The 3 week stall is about glycogen and water being restored back into your muscles after your initial weight loss. You're still losing fat, but you're storing water and that makes the scale freeze. Keeping your measurements will show that you are still making progress. Keep doing what's you're doing and the scale will soon start moving again.

    New here - need advice

The 3 week stall is real and happens to almost everyone. Definitely happened to me and lasted almost 3 weeks. The good news is, I really haven't stalled again after that.
  3. I know this is common and I know it gets asked about a lot, but to those of you who went through the 2,3 or 4 week stall, how long did it last? Did you do anything specific to shift out of it, or did it just more on its own? I've been losing and gaining the same pound for 9 days-I will be 4 weeks on Thursday. I've been patient until today...but now I'm annoyed.
  4. I don't know if I had the dreaded 3 week stall. I only weigh myself once a month unless I go to the doctors. The scale makes me crazy and I tend to lose focus. You do need to try and get your Water in or at least increase your water intake. Your body needs it for weight loss. Try adding maybe a ¼ cup to your Protein shakes or pouring them over a cup full of ice. Most importantly step away from the scale a focus on eating right and exercising. One month out your body is still adjusting and healing. Just continue doing the right things and the weight will come off.

    Weight staul

I want to weigh in here. Pun intended. I am new to the bypass but had a sleeve done in 2013 so I know a lot more than a typical newbie. There is a thing I lovingly refer to as “the dreaded 3 week stall”. It happens to almost everyone. It starts at 3 weeks and can last one or a few weeks. It might feel like a big deal but it just happens. It’s because of the shock to your system, eating so few calories, starvation mode, blah blah blah. I’m sure you have all heard that stuff before. IT WILL PASS! Just keep doing what you’re doing and one day you will wake up and like 6lbs will be gone. No worries. It’s all good. Keep up the good work!!
  6. Well folks, I've read about it over and over and over and over again....3 week stall. It won't happen to me I said. Well it's a for sure thing. Been stuck now at the same weight all week and it's really really frustrating. Especially when my doc says a guy my size should be able to drop about 20 lbs a month in the beginning. Incision pain starting to get better and I've gone to the gym, walking on the treadmill, moving more, nothing seems to help. Been following the rules, eating about 600 cal per day consistently. scale is just being a lil B**** at the moment. ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????? Praying for a better week 4! I realize it's not a sprint and I'm committed, just darn frustrating.

    Weight loss slow going

do a search for the 3 week stall - you'll see lots of posts about people hitting their first stall the 3rd week out from surgery! You might also want to start checking your measurements. Many people find that the weeks where the scale isn't moving are the weeks where they actually lose the inches as their body adjusts to the new weight,

    Calories?

Sounds like the dreaded 3 week stall people talk about here. I've been dealing with stalls almost every week since my two-week preop diet. Everyone seems to have a different way to break them. This might be useful: Weight Loss Stall or Plateau Explained

    Still Scared

Don't set yourself up for failure by thinking you wont lose. Do a search of the 3 week stall and you will be amazed at how MANY posts there are, most people don't have a loss around the 2-4th week. You just had major surgery and your body is trying to keep up. Please save your sanity and don't compare yourself to others, we are all different and we all lose different. Just keep doing what you need to do One more thing, I know people worry about stalls, just try to ignore them, it will happen. I refuse to think of it as a stall unless I was doing everything right and still stayed at the same weight for at least a month.

    3 weeks Post-Op Question

I have not had surgery yet. But I can't tell you how many places on this forum that I've read about the dreaded 3 week stall. From what I've read it's normal. They say to stick to the plan the surgeon and nutritionist gave you and you'll be back to losing weight again in no time. I'm sure a veteran loser will have more to add shortly. Stay positive and keep your eye on the prize! Oh! and don't weigh yourself everyday. Hide the scale! =)

    17 pounds in 9 days!

Hi Carla, Very normal. The hospital pumped about 8-10lbs of fluids into you during your stay and surgery so you lose that right away. Additionally, you will lose your glycogen stores which is basically sugar that has been modified for energy for use in your muscles. On average a person has about 2lbs of glycogen in their muscles, and to store that, about 8 lbs of Water. When your body is starving, it dumps its stores of glycogen and with that, the water that suspended it for use. Not to take away from your joy because it is really exciting to have any loss, but be prepared for the dreaded 3 week stall. For some people it is shorter than others but for most it lasts at least a week or two of no weight loss, and sometimes even gain while your body replenishes and rebuilds the glycogen stores. After the store, you should expect anywhere from 2-4lbs weight loss weekly during your losing phase. Make sure you are getting in your Protein so that your hair doesn't fall out later.

    Stall-B-Gone

Well there's your problem lady! Quit watching My 600LB Life! Gosh I used to love that show now I hate it with as @ms.sss the hot intense heat and passion of 10,000 suns! It misleads so many people!!! First these people losing 25-50-100lbs a month are all super morbidly obese. And you are what is considere in WLS terms as a "lightweight" since you are starting at 204lbs. Second, true AVERAGE weight loss is only between 2-4lbs in the early weeks/months following surgery. The body can only lose so quickly. It's a biochemical formula. Third. There is a very famous "3 week stall" that happens between weeks 2-6. It's aggravating, can last a few days of a couple of weeks. But as long as you follow your doc's and RD's plan, you will be in good shape and things will go well for you. You will lose the weight! Congrats on the 22lbs of loss and being in onederland!!! Woot! Early Christmas pressie!
  13. Help!!! I converted from Lapband to bypass 3wks ago and at my 2wk appt my doc ok'd me to have Wendy's chili and chicken and ground turkey etc as long as I chewed it well. I'm assuming she transitioned me because I had a previous surgery. However, preop included I lost 39lbs but since real food I'm back up 4lbs. I know about the 3 week stall but wouldn't I had lost more staying on liquids/ purée/soft food stage longer. I feel like my doc sabotaged me. Anyone else transitioned early per doc and gained? 14. When I had my one week follow-up with my doctor, I only lost 3 lbs. Don't worry; your weight will come off in time. Don't try to compare yourself to other people; each person body will react to the surgery a different way. Right now, I am having a 3 week stall.
  15. You probably aren't eating enough yet. My NUT has all her WLS patients eating 5 times a day - - every 3 -4 hours. Protein and fluids were our only goal at 1 month - no calorie counting. At that time I was just starting to eat solid foods and could barely eat more than 1oz of solid meat like chicken, steak, etc. We weren't allowed to have any raw or fibrous veggies until week 6. But I never had any room for veggies anyway until the 3rd month. I was probably averaging 400 -600 calories at that point increasing to 800 by the end of month two. You may be experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall. Our bodies have gone through a lot with this surgery and sometimes take a break. Are you constipated? Is it that time of the month? Are you walking or exercising yet?

3 weeks post op GAINED 2lbs

Search "3-week stall" on this forum and you will quickly see that what you are experiencing is incredibly (almost universal in fact) common. Know it is frustrating, but trust us, you will lose more weight. Stick with your plan and it will be fine.

    Is this too much??

I was over 50 BMI when I first had surgery. I lost 43 pounds the first month. 4.5 months later I'm at 66 pounds. My weight loss has slowed to a snail's pace. I think it eventually the weight slows down and I had a 3 week stall after the first month. Good luck!
  18. For 2 weeks pre and 4 weeks post op, my dr requires 3 protien drinks / 2 yogurts a day. I think he does this because he sells us the pricey drinks. At 4 weeks post op, we are to switch to 2 drinks and one mushy meal until we reach our goal. Then 1 drink daily for maintenance. I am 16 days post op. I stopped losing weight on day 11. I am very disappointed. They say a 3 week stall is normal but after 11 days and under 500 calories?
  19. Sleeves on Jan 3rd Starting weight 257 Current weight 197 Goal weight 165-175 I just came out of a 3 week stall and lost 5lbs this week. I’m still having some trouble with spasms and take meds before I eat. My vomiting after meals has finally gotten better. I’m lifting weights and trying to remember that my weight loss will be much slower now that I’m building back muscle. But being in a size 10/12 pants again is making me really happy. I’m 5’8 and was most happiest with my weight when I was 165, but now that I’m 40 years old, I think 175 would be a great goal also. My doctor thinks I should have a goal weight of 150. If it happens it happens.

    haven't lost a lb in 4 days...

Agree with other posters - it's the "3 week stall." Do a quick search at the top of the page for it and there are tons of great threads!

    Am I eating too much?

are you also getting in your bariatric multivitamins and 64oz (2L) + water/fluids? As others have said, it might be that the processed protein foods/supplements you are having are a little high in processed carbs and not giving you the kind of satiety (and nutrition) that you'd get from things like gelatin rich soups, soft-cooked meats and eggs, or fibre-rich steamed vegetables and porridge (rolled oats cooked soft in water)? I'm adding a 14.5g collagen hydrolysate protein supplement to my morning coffee with a cup of 1% milk, and having half a protein water during the afternoon for another 18g protein, with the remainder of my nutrition coming from my breakfast (2/3 of a serving of porridge), and steamed veggies and soft chicken/fish for most of the rest of my solid foods, and home-made blended vegetable soups as part of my liquids. I"ll sometimes include half or a whole quest protein bar if I'm going to be caught out/away from home for a few hours when I need to eat. Or, you might just be someone who loses slower. Everyones genetics, dieting history, metabolism and hormones are different. If you are doing more exercise you may be building more muscle while losing fat, or holding more water temporarily. I've been progressively losing size since I started my 3 week pre-op VLCD, and am currently 3.5 weeks post op (just finished the common "3 week stall" where I stayed around 104kg for about a week before the scales started moving again the other day). Keep talking with your nutrition team about what you are eating, and how you are feeling, and they should be able to provide you the most practical and suitable advice.
  22. Onederland!! For the first time in over ten years.....I am under 200!! It feels amazing!! Its been 8 weeks since surgery. I have lost a total of 40 pounds! If you wouldve asked me 4 weeks ago if it was worth going through the surgery...i wouldve said hell no. I had an issue where they thought my sleeve was too small. I couldnt hold anything down. They wanted to go in and "balloon" my stomach in order to stretch it. I decided not to do that and pushed through it. Im so glad i did. Eating is much easier and im losing the weight despite a 3 week stall! I just have to keep reminding myself that IT DOES GET EASIER. Just like veterean sleevers said it would. Pics to come later!

    Weight Gain

I agree....try not to over weigh yourself or you'll go nutty over it. Your setting in for your 3 week stall (definately a thing) so try not to panic. The losing will resume. My important rule of thumb? I never weigh myself more than one time in a day (unless I weigh first thing in the morning, then shortly after have a large BM - sorry, crude I know, but I'm stepping back on that scale if I'm certain there are ounces that I've lost in that toilet!). If I step back on the scale sooner than 1 week is up, and I see the number stuck, or <gulp> has gone up, I just don't let it register. I wait until I'm sure the weight has started dropping again. 25. Same as you. 4 weeks post op today and have lost like 16 lbs. but most of it was in the first week and a half. I know the 2-3 week stall is so real but hard to digest it for sure. Hoping to see the scale moving again Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
