    Mid-week Checkpoint

    Mid week checkpoint from last week I'm late! I i'm an avid runner. I have taken the last few days off. Crazy how your body craves exercise once you make it a part of your routine. I will say obesity is a smart disease and anyone experiencing stalls for me , I have to constantly find ways to out smart it. If I run at 4am one week, I will run at 6pm the next. It get used to things you do 😡😡😡😡.

  4. Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 

    I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 

    I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 

    My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

    Pre op diet

    I'm in the exact same situation. (Also in the UK). I'm going through the NHS. I wasn't expecting to have to start the diet so soon either. I was hoping to at least get my birthday and my friend's wedding out of the way before having to be restricted. I wasted a lot of food as I just bought groceries before my appointment. I'm not sure if the whole 12 weeks is the liver shrinking diet or just the last three weeks. I did mess up in a moment of feeling like I was starving and I had 4 slices of toast. If the whole 12 weeks is to shrink the liver, I wouldn't risk eating anything not on the list if it can be avoided. If just the last three weeks is the liver shrinking diet, maybe one "proper meal" a week is fine?

    Decaf or not?

    it's been a while for me, but I think we were allowed decaf at about three weeks post-op and regular coffee at about six months out. The acid in some coffee does bother my stomach - I can handle coffee that's only mildly acidic but some is so acidic that I just can't do it. That may be why in my case (and yours) they wanted us to wait three weeks even for decaf.

    Concerned

    It *could* be hypoglycemia. To prevent that, you're supposed to eat something about every three hours. Preferably a protein if it's WLS-related. Even a thing of yogurt is fine.

    An Up And Down Week

    Oh, saaaame. I'm in a stall right now, and my inner voice was trying to convince me not to weigh in this morning until after a bowel movement, but also to do it before eating breakfast (as if the cereal and almond milk were somehow going to raise my weight by noticeable pounds?) I do try to do it at roughly the same time on weigh-in days (I'm trying to stick to twice a week but during a stall I should probably go once a week lol), but that's more for my neuro-spicy brain. Sometimes the things my ED brain tells me are kind of ridiculous.

    Sometimes if you can’t see something you don’t think it’s there but there are sutures and staples inside you & you will be swollen internally. You will heal you just need the time to do it and that is the purpose of the staged return to eating solid foods is for: to slowly get your tummy used to digesting denser and denser food while it is recovering until it is fully healed and you can tolerate ‘normal’ solid foods. And your stall will break. They always do. It will take time (1-3 weeks usually). A stall is your body thinking what the hell is going on and taking time to work out what’s happening and understanding your new needs. It’s been through a lot with the surgery and now the recovery and restricted diet. Your poor body is stressed much like you are emotionally at the moment. Stick to your plan. You only need to go back a stage during this time if your body is struggling to tolerate and digest the slightly denser food at each new stage. Remember back to what happened with your initial surgery. As I said this recovery will be similar.
  10. Hello, I just started Mounjaro!! I'm on Week 3 of 2.5mg and the appetite suppression is no joke! My doctor put me on this after stalling out at 80 pounds lost post op. Surgery March 2021, stopped losing March 2022 (but haven't gained). I'd like to hear about anyone else's experience so far, the weight loss has been slow, but I'm hopefully because the scale is finally moving again!!

    I’m pretty sure dry skin can also be from l not enough protein I’m using my phone so I’m not sure which surgery you had but if it’s bypass and increasing, your fluids, doesn’t work consider whether you just need more protein than the average bypass or if your activity is high, talk to your team, but they told me I needed to increase my protein because of my level of activity. Also, if your activity is really high, you may actually need to increase your carbohydrates. I would definitely talk to your team about your activity and your food intake. I know that increasing carbs sounds scary and counterproductive, but I’ve been on here for about four years now and a lot of people found that when they exercise level was high their body thought it was starving and was hanging onto everything until they increased their calories and then it started dropping so I would definitely ask if that could be an issue. Daughter it’s just the three weeks stop which isn’t exactly at three weeks, but it does happen to pretty much everyone.

    Weight loss stall

    there are 17,501 posts here on Bariatric Pal about the infamous "three-week stall" (it often strikes the third week after surgery, but not always - it can be the second week - or fourth - or fifth - but in any event, it hits most of us very soon after surgery. And no, I am NOT kidding about there being 17,501 posts on it. Here they are: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three-week stall best thing to do is just make sure you're following your program - and then stay off the scale for a few days. As long as you're following your program, the stall WILL break. It usually takes 1-3 weeks. And just so you know, this is likely the first of many stalls..

    Sadi is so lonely

    So I went with the SADI and I am two weeks post op now. I did have loose movements for three days but only the one in the morning and since then I have been constipated or normal but back and forth. It’s weird because everyone warned me about diarrhea and that hasn’t happened yet. Does it wait until you are on more normal foods maybe?
  16. Well I start my Pre-op diet Tuesday . I have to only eat and drink Optifast protein supplements I purchased from the doctors for 14 days. Any tips from someone who have used Optifast .

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

    I’m at exactly 7 weeks post op. I’ve lost 25 lbs since surgery. I lost 15 lbs in the first 2 weeks then I stalled for a few weeks. People kept saying, your body is still healing, which was true. At 4 weeks my stomach was not inflamed anymore, the incisions looked good. Around the 5th week I started losing again. I do weigh myself daily, but I look at lbs lost weekly. I’m not particularly in a rush to lose a lot of weight super fast because I don’t want the loose skin. As long as I am losing and feeling good. Although I wasn’t losing weight during my stall, I was losing inches. I use bands to exercise my arms and legs, and I walk. slowly but surely!!!!!

    I think stalls are pretty inevitable, regardless of intake! I have been eating things like, chicken, shrimp etc and stalls still happen! Your body is just recalibrating

    Huge sympathy on the stall OP. We've all been there and they totally suck. I hope you lose loads on the way out - that's most of our experiences. Rubbish when you're in the middle though.

    It definitely does have a little bit of a stall around that point - I was in the same place around then, and I have finally started losing a bit more now. That is amazing you are getting the exercise in - that is something I desperately need to get more of. I am going to the gym maybe once a week, but my energy levels are so low due to me struggling to get food in 😅 I shall maybe just go and try to do some light cardio rather than weights!

    Yea. I figure that I go over my protein goal on days by two or three grams so that one random day wont kill me. I try to do a shake or a yogurt but I don’t force myself too much.
  22. Newbie here, first post! That said I have done my fair share of reading and creeping and have come to understand the 3 week stall is pretty common. That said... Tomorrow marks the 4th week post op and this entire week has had 0 loss. I have now lost 13 pounds post op bringing me to 17.4 in the last 30 days, and I feel like the surgery and the recovery was it worth 13 pounds? I feel stuck, I feel discouraged living like this during the holidays and not able to eat all the treats and food around. Now with the rant done, I am looking for a good puree to soft solids daily menu with food ratios that anyone can point me too? I am good at following a plan but suck at just making something up in a pinch, I have been planning but you know how it goes, sometimes you just don't feel like the things you made previously. I guess I just needed to vent, and in a space where others maybe have dealt with this themselves..
  23. I got mine and I didn’t weigh it but it comes with the batteries separate (not installed). I wonder if that’s the difference. Just three AAA’s though.

    Did i plateau

    Literally, this morning I just came out of a two-weekish stall with an abrupt 4.5lb drop. Stalls are frustrating as heck but as long as you keep doing what you know you should be doing, you'll come out of it ok.

    Calories

    you might just be in a long-ish stall. You should be losing even at 1000 calories a day, so unless you're undercounting, you're probably in a long stall. I'd give it another week or two.
