same. i make a mean, super duper sweet filipino milk flan. i limit myself to like a single bite or two at a time but i will say its a hit at parties. FILIPINO LECHE FLAN: INGREDIENTS 10 room temperature egg yolks ( i usually use the unused egg whites to make a palvova or almond cookies or macarons) 1 can condensed milk 1 can evaporated milk 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional) 1 tsp fresh lime juice 1/2 cup sugar DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 melt sugar in bottom of pans whisk egg yolks add condensed milk, stir until combined add evaporated milk, vanilla and optional lime & mix well (slowly so no air bubbles) pour mixture through cheesecloth or sieve to remove any undissolved bits pour into pans tap the pans onto hard surface to remove any bubbles cover pans loosely with foil put pans into a roasting pan then fill roasting pan with water until reaches halfway up the flan pans bake 35-40 mins until set (firm but still jiggly) let cool and put in fridge for at least 3 hours remove from pan by placing a plate on top and carefully flipping over to release to goodness lol -
Gaining weight - experience of a decade
ShoppGirl replied to Gess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve and I started gaining just months after I reached goal. I was too embarrassed to reach out for help and ended up gaining it all back and had no choice but a revision. Good on you for reaching out here. My biggest piece of advice is to reach out to your team and get an appointment. Start logging your food again if you haven’t been and give them an honest picture of what you are eating so they can help you make tweaks. Also if you have a fitness watch, pull it out of the drawer and get a real picture of you current activity level. I thought for sure that my team was going to be so harsh on me and make me feel awful but they couldn’t have possibly been more understanding and all they wanted to do was help. For me the only real option was revision but for you some tweaks in your food and exercise may help, could be hormones so they may want to check that, weight loss medications in tablets or the newer option if the GLP-1 injections may even be an option. The other suggestion of support group meetings is a really good one too. I am doing so much better this time around because I am reaching out for support anywhere I can get it. This time I told more people so I have more people cheering me on and I have the in person support as well as on here and I am going to see the NP more of they than they usually require. I know that I need all the help that I can get. lol. -

Breakfast (2.5 hours post a weight lifting and jogging session) 1 slice protein toast, 4 slices turkey breast, lite cheese, spicy mayo, lettuce and jalapeños. How I did: Had the rest an hour later. Approximately 314 calories for the whole thing. Also had a protein shake 1.5 hours prior. -
If you're allowed, I found heating up a serving of tomato soup with unflavored protein powder was much more satisfying for my dinner than a shake. Just check that the combined calories and carbs of the soup plus the protein is roughly in line with a meal replacement shake. I used the Tomato Basil from Pacific Foods with 2 scoops of Syntrax unflavored and it was right in line with a Bariatric Fusion meal replacement shake but with a hot and savory flavor instead of sweet/cold.

When you're on a weight loss journey, it's tough to balance everything, including habits like vaping. Some people find that it doesn't affect their weight loss much, while others might notice it gets in the way, especially regarding cravings or energy levels. Trying to quit or reduce your vaping could help your overall health in the long run, and you might feel even better about your progress. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but focusing on what works best for you is vital. If you're looking for good quality vaping products, check out sites like https://fryd.us.com , which have various options.

Monday Check-In

Can you sneak some protein bars or packets of roasted edamame or something in your bag, just to make sure you've got some healthier protein options -- just in case you find there's not much there to suit you? Or even keep some low sodium V8 juice in your hotel room -- even if it just makes you feel better about having had 'A Vegetable' at the end of the day. I know a lot of places don't 'allow' outside food but as a recent surgery patient maybe they'll give you more lenience (or maybe they can be tucked under a towel lol). Hahaha YES! I've taken to stashing vanilla-scented dog waste bags in my purse in case of a tummy-temper-tantrum. XD -

Hi everyone, It has been awhile since I have posted. We have been very busy around my house. I will be 6 weeks post-op on Tuesday. I can officially transition over to regular texture foods as of then. My dietician did tell me to not attempt over 1/2cup per meal. She said that is my max goal for a couple more months. Daily goals: 60-80g protein, 48+ ounces of fluids, 500-700 calories, eat 3-6 times per day. Obviously do not eat 1/2 cup 6 times per day though. Lol I am excited about being able to go to the gym and start an exercise regimen. I also do not need protein shakes anymore as long as I am meeting my protein goals. So happy about that. I have found a new product, Nurri, it is an ultra-filtered milk (shelf stable) with 30g protein and only 150 calories. It is honestly better than Fairlife and comes in a can. I have been drinking that for my breakfast and while I take all my meds. I slowly take my meds over the 30 minutes or so I drink it. @draikaina8503 hope you are feeling better. @Justarwaxx the foamies are the worst. I’m glad it has only happened to me once. @ShoppGirl the target heart rate formula is interesting. I can walk across the room and my heart rate would be higher than that. Those goals don’t really work for me but if it’s great if they help you. @Voca my date was also 8/6. Hope you are doing well. I can’t remember who asked about weight going up and down. That has not happened to me since my surgery, but in previous dieting for sure it happened. I have had a couple of days where my weight did not change. I am more of a slow loser so I weigh every day to keep myself honest and to see if something I did the day before might contribute to loss or even a stall. It works for me but might not be good for everyone. I have tried chili from Wendy’s and McAllister’s Deli and they were okay. I do not really count those as “eating out” since they were chili and I could have had almost the same from a can. Last night I went to dinner with some friends for the first time since surgery. I had not told any of them about my surgery and then they were all worried about what I could eat. I had already looked at the menu before going so I knew what my options were. Really not super WLS friendly. It’s a wood fired pizza restaurant. I ordered the best protein option pizza and had only the toppings from 2 pieces. They were small pieces and the entire pizza fit on a single plate. My choices worked because today I am down 1.3 pounds. It made me happy that I knew I made the right choice. I was also not bothered by them eating other foods and seeing them finish their entire meals. They were all super supportive and asked if we needed to go somewhere else. I recently went through my closet and started pulling clothes that are too big and adding in fall clothes. I had previously done a big purge of clothes that did not fit and I did not want to keep so my clothing options are a bit limited right now. My cousin had the gastric sleeve about 18 months ago and she gave me all of her clothes so that has been a huge help. It was like getting new clothes for free. Haha My NSV is putting something on that did not fit a month ago and now is loose. That is a great feeling. Looking at the scale and saying I have lost 25 pounds since 8/6 and that does not seem like a lot to me but knowing how a certain shirt or pants fit before and now they are loose or even too big to wear. That helps keep it real for me and helps to keep me motivated. Hope everyone has a great week and keep focused on those small goals and successes. -

My surgeon did not agree with protein shakes so I never had them. I drank full skim milk instead. There is a lot more protein in it than you would imagine. Make your own shakes with fruit, esp banana, peanut butter, greek yogurt. I could manage PB2 powder. Good luck. -
can you live entirely off protein the shakes??
NickelChip replied to Bessieboop1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As others have said, absolutely not. Fruit, veg, and lean protein is essential to good health. I had protein shakes for the two weeks before surgery to shrink my liver, and for the first few weeks after as my insides healed. I would never want to rely on them beyond that. I can't even imagine how horrible and unfulfilling that would be. I've continued to have maybe one shake a day as a supplement when it's difficult to hit my protein goals. Tonight I'm having a protein hot chocolate from Premier Protein because it's chilly outside and a nice treat. But mostly I eat real, minimally processed foods. It's important to remember that supplements and vitamins and minerals are only able to provide the nutrients we know about, the ones scientists have discovered are directly responsible for diseases and disorders if you don't get them. But there are countless thousands of compounds in natural foods that we need and that are absent from shakes and supplements because they haven't been studied. The only way to get that is to eat a wide variety of real whole foods. -
What I've done as well with my porridge is cook it up and then add a scoop or half a scoop of protein powder. (Only on days when I was pretty sure I wouldn't get my protein in pre-op) Porridge with small chunks of apple and then Myprotein Salted caramel tastes really nice.

Reactive Hypoglycaemia
catwoman7 replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes - I have that. Or at least that is what my physician thought after I had occasional symptoms like that and they couldn't find anything else wrong with me (had the workup about four years ago). She said to eat something about every three hours - preferably a protein or something paired with a protein. It works - I rarely have those symptoms any more. P.S. any kind of protein is fine - even a thing of yogurt. -

@Candace4283 I have on hand Ondansetron subliminal that helps so much for nausea? I’m not dealing with that now but so much pain but it’s only 3 days out. I’m trying cream of shrimp soup/milk to thin…blended…little protein powder and bay seasoning and protein drinks mostly. -
I made cups, like reese; 1/4 maple syrup 1 1/2 cup of a nut butter (I use My Protein) 1 1/2 cup of blended oats Mix the syrup and butter until combined, then stir in the oats until you have a consistent smooth mix. Put into cupcake liners. Then I make the topping; 1 cup chocolate chips (I use dark) 1 tsp coconut oil Melt the chocolate and pour over the cups. Chill in fridge for a couple of hours at least. I got 12 from this recipe. ****** Protein version 1 cup protein powder (vanilla) 1/2 cup nut butter 1/4 cup maple syrup 1/4 cup chocolate chips plus another 1/2 cup chocolate chips Pinch of salt (if you want you can leave it out but it helps with the flavour) Mix protein powder, nut butter and maple syrup until it becomes like cookie dough. Then add in the chocolate chips. and salt and mix to have the chips distributed through the dough. Roll into balls and but into cup cake cases/tray and press them down. Then melt the remaining chocolate and spoon over the top. Chill for at least an hour. ****** My luxurious treat; 1/2 cup cocoa powder 1/4 cup protein powder ( I have used a caramel one from My Protein) 1/4 cup peanut butter (My protein) 1/4 cup maple syrup (or honey) Combine and roll into balls. Chill and then see how long they last for Fudge yumminess. **** I also have a satay chicken dish that is delicious and uses the peanut butter.

That is the plan for some doctors but some allow the clear protein drinks or unflavored protein powder mixed into broth which that one I’ve never tried but the clear protein waters aren’t bad.

5 days since sleeve… feeling constantly starving
HLthELivin24 replied to HLthELivin24's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Update…I started taking my omeprazole twice a day instead of just in the morning and it absolutely made a difference in how “hungry” I felt. It definitely makes me wonder how long I’ve been interpreting GERD as hunger and just trying to feel myself for it to go away. It’s probably a big factor in what got me in this position in the first place. Also, today I was advanced to the soft phase and I got to have a 1-2 tbsp meal of cottage cheese and an egg with Italian herbs. I’ve missed savory so much. It was beyond satisfying -
can you live entirely off protein the shakes??
NeonRaven8919 replied to Bessieboop1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with this. I'm about 4 weeks post op. According to my plan, I can start soft foods on Monday. But I've struggled with purees and eating too fast so I've gone back to liquids and protein shakes. I'm honestly kind of scared of moving to soft foods and even more scared of moving to solid foods. I think if you're going to use shakes and things to supplement your diet, Meal Replacement shakes are a better alternative to protein shakes as they also have more vitamins. While on my LSD, I would mix the chocolate slimfast with some chocolate protein powder and little skimmed milk to disguise the taste of the slimfast, but also to give it a little more protein. I would not WANT to live on those long term, but occasionally, I think can still have a place in the diet if you're in a rush or not feeling well enough to cook. -
Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇
AmberFL replied to Mspretty86's topic in Rants & Raves
Went Jean shopping yesterday and my biggest struggle was everything looked good and with my size I had so many options. Then went to VS and was picking out size small panties and they are sexy. TMI but I wore a sexy piece for the mister and I felt really sexy in my skin. It was the best freaking feeling! Attached are the very first pair of pants I bought after WLS because my 20s were way too baggy. I don’t always do amazing with my choices in food- a struggle we all will forever be a struggle for me, but damn! I did this work, I put in work at the gym, I meal prep every damn week, and I track. I am humble bragging that I am proud of myself! -

Now I want to know what you’ll do about Halloween first! But at every food based event, I try to hydrate as much as possible then focus in only the foods I really want (even if it is dessert). In the early days I would bring protein shakes along because there’s almost no protein in pies. 🤣 -
Hello! First time poster here and I’m thinking of taking my life back and going to Mexico for mini bypass surgery BUT they keep pushing me for the sleeve instead. I don’t have a problem with over eating but apparently my body likes to hold on to everything I give it. I don’t think the sleeve would be a good option for me I am 5’8 almost 300lbs. I hear a lot of people getting the sleeve into a bypass afterwards and I don’t want to be in that boat. I know what I believe will work best for me but I’m looking for other peoples experience with the sleeve or mini bypass. Also any recommendations to a doctor in Mexico would be helpful as well because there are so many! Thank you for reading I appreciate it!

I will add protein powder to my Greek yogurt some times or will make a protein smoothie myself to drink as a snack, but I got burned out on the premade protein drinks during my liquid phase and pretty much have not been able to stomach one since. I do love protein water though and that helps. I think I’m averaging 60-80 grams a day, but I feel like the goal they gave me is unattainable right now. I should be moving to soft food soon and then I think it will help with I can include tuna and chicken. -

SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Mandapanda@'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's really strange because the focus should be on protein right from the beginning. I was drinking protein gatorade zero, protein water, ready made protein shakes (not thick, very watery), bone broth, and flavored electrolyte water (Propel has been my favorite).
