Good morning, my surgery is Tuesday and the stress is hitting. What did everyone “eat” the first week? I know it is all about the protein but what did you use? Has anyone used Genepro?
-
I'm 2 weeks post op. I mix genepro with about two ounces of coffee and one cup of fairlife chocolate milk. I love it. It tastes like an iced mocha and gives me 43 grams of protein. And it's not sickly sweet or thick like protein shakes.

Almost 5 days post-op and on mushy/pureed stage
greygoosecytosis posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi all- My surgeon's post-op plan allows 1-2oz pureed/mushy soft, high protein meals at days 3-14. For example: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey. The "pureed/mushy" phase is combined and there is no separation regarding pureed vs mushy foods. I am almost 5 days post-op from VSG and so far, so good. I've had soup that's been pureed, greek yogurt with 1/2 slice of canned peach (in fruit juice, not syrup) pureed, canned chicken salad. There have been ZERO issues in terms of nausea/vomiting/discomfort and my serving size is 1oz at a time. I am close to meeting fluids goals and am hovering around 55 fl. oz/day. Still working on meeting 40mg protein/day requirement and am drinking one supplement shake/day and using GENEPRO too. Overall I just feel hesitant about my eating. My concern is that I see there is quite a variation of post-op diet plans and most people are on liquids/full liquids for some time immediately post-op and my plan allows me to sorta bypass that stage. I will be sure to bring-up my concerns at my 1st follow-up appt. next week, but for the time being should I just continue doing what I am doing since I've had no issues.....yet? -
Almost 5 days post-op and on mushy/pureed stage
greygoosecytosis replied to greygoosecytosis's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thank you so much! I've been concerned that I am progressing too fast. After hearing about you and your wife's similar plan, it certainly helps. What did you eat during your soft/mushy/puree stage? Did you have vegetables? Any recommendations other Genepro? One thing I really like about Genepro is that there is no after-taste and that the protein scoop is not HUGE. -
Almost 5 days post-op and on mushy/pureed stage
RickM replied to greygoosecytosis's topic in Food and Nutrition
Your post-op progression is not at all unreasonable, and is consistent with what the more experienced sleeve/DS practices do. Both my wife and I were on soft/mushy/puree in the hospital (as tolerated). Some patients may stay on more liquids longer depending upon how much inflammation they have in the stomach. My wife was slower to progress than I was, but within the normal expectations for the program. If your protein requirements are only 40g, which is on the low side (typically 50-60g minimum for smaller women,) I would certainly use something better than Genepro, as that stuff, at best, is substantially overstated in its' protein content. -
Recommendations for unflavored protein powder
lizonaplane replied to Christina Phillips's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't tried that one, but I like isopure or Genepro (the caveat with Genepro is that they say you get 30g of protein from a 7g serving, which seems completely impossible, but lots of people say it works for them. There was a lawsuit, but it was dismissed on a technicality). The main thing I've found with these is that you have to be careful how you add them to food. You have to mix them with a little lukewarm water until they fully dissolve before adding them to hot food, like soup or oatmeal. If you try to heat (or reheat) the food with the protein powder in them, it's an absolutely disgusting mess of clumps. Also, the isopure smells terrible, but I've used it in some pretty bland foods like oatmeal and lobster bisque and it doesn't taste like anything. -
Pre Op meal replacement shakes / drinks
MarthaBoss replied to rayb70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doc put me on Optifast and Genepro but before fasting and after surgery I will Be using Premier Protein, Genepro and inspire protein. -
26lbs, that is amazing!! I am using an unflavored protein powder, GENEPRO. 30g in one scoop. Really does not have flavor as mixes completely into all food I have tried as long as the food is not too hot. I was also over all the sweet and artificial sweeteners. This powder has been a life saver. I have also had days where water has a weird taste. It is odd because I am drinking the same brand of bottle water and some days it just taste bitter almost. Those days I mix some lemonade crystal light into my water and it makes it easier. I am never hungry either but make myself eat some because my body cannot heal without it. Keep pushing yourself little by little, it will get better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein drinks make me nauseous
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. I’m going to look into protein hot cocoa. I already have genepro on hand, so I’ll start using some more of that. I’ve been sipping on my protein water as well. I might just stick to my Fairlife milk until Tuesday because the protein drink I had today actually made me vomit ☹️ -
Protein Drink That Isn't Sweet?
Tashabella replied to Connorsmama7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You do get really fed up with the sweet stuff. I have been having fat free Soups (no lumps, chunks, etc.) with Protein powder in them at least once a day to break it up so it's not so monotonous. I don't get soft food until the middle of next week. I bought GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide Powder online from Amazon and it came the next day. I saw a post on this site where someone recommended it. It only takes 1 tablespoon and it mixes well with my soups. What I do is put the powder in a glass and add a few teaspoons of hot soup and stir it to make a paste and then slowly add more soup and stir, repeat. It blends really well this way. Other people say they mix it in their beverages, including Water, and can't tell it's there. This Protein Powder has been a blessing for me!!! -
I really think it is a learning curve for sure. My taste and smell changed so much. The drinks I liked (kind of LOL) Preop I hated afterwards. I only wish I had found the un-favored GENEPRO. I love it but I wouldn't tel anyone else to use it. Always check with you tam. here are some people on here that don't like it. But for myself it is the one that doesn't have a after taste BTW Welcome you wil get a ton of informatin on here. Just take what you need and leave the rest. Congratulations on starting your amazing journey.

Oh bless your heart! I hope everything starts to look up for you soon! I have been using GENEPRO Protein. Some folks were talking about it here, and stated that is was really odorless and tasteless. I decided to try it because the horrible sweet tastes of all the shakes/protein I had been using was about to make me just stop protein altogether. That was the best choice I had every made! I sent the info to my NUT and surgeon since it's a fairly new product and both of them approved it. It truly is completely tasteless. I mix it in everything; decaf coffee, V8, diluted juice, yogurt. It has been a life-saver for me. You can order if from Amazon, which is were I got it or from the company website which is Musclegen Research. Best of luck to you! Carol

Update on OCt sleevers.....
beckipastor replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App -

Unflavored Protein
MrsSugarbabe replied to SKrae430's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@SKrae430 Welcome! I love @@unjury! It's my Protein of choice. I've only recently started using the unflavored more frequently and have found success with adding one serving (24 grams) to my strawberry lemonade (sugar-free drink mix with Water to taste). I mixed a serving of lemonade with about a half serving of strawberry with 20 ounces of water, 1 serving of unflavored @@UNJURY, shake well, serve over ice. It is not a Meal Replacement this afternoon, just a beverage to keep me from doing something stupid When I choose to use a shake as a meal replacement, I always use a full serving of whichever flavor I'm using. vanilla is the flavor I buy and use most often. This morning I made an iced latte at work with 8 oz. skim milk, 1 serving unflavored @@UNJURY, 2 oz. espresso, sweetened to taste and a couple of pumps of SF Torani Vanilla and Caramel syrup. Because the whey protein can clump if mixed with liquids hotter than 140 deg., I tend not to use it in hot beverages. The @@UNJURY dietitians are a huge help anytime I have a question about using their product in different things. Most recently, I inquired about adding it to some oatmeal (which I rarely eat, just had a taste for it one cold morning). They have a lot of recipes available on the @@UNJURY website and you can call the dietitians anytime during regular hours. Because I want to start using protein in my morning coffee, I'm going to try the GENEPRO unflavored for that purpose only. One of the other BP members told me how they incorporate it so as to avoid the clumping issue. I hope it works for me. I prefer drinking my coffee hot in the morning rather than an iced coffee beverage. One word of advice if you haven't already done this, I recommend actually weighing the scoopful of powder in grams on a food scale rather than depending on just scooping it out; you will get a more accurate serving size each time as the powder can pack down. Be sure to weigh the scoop empty first and zero out the scale, fill scoop and weigh again. I hope I've answered your question in all of this rambling If you've got any good recipes or suggestions, please share! -
Suggest Unflavored Protein Powder Source
auntiem0502 replied to Debbie623's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro is the best for what we need, has 30g in a Tbsp. it's pricey but worth it. Regardless of what they say it is not flavorless! I taste something & it changes food texture. Melts best in hot tea. ???? -
Genepro protein is 30 grams of protein tasteless

Hi richiewho, I'm right at 500-550 now. Basically, I start my day with a cup of tea and about 1/3c whole milk (indulgent, but it tastes SOOO good). Usually I put a scoop of genepro powder in it as well. Then later in the morning I have a Pure protein shake made with skim milk. In the afternoon I have a cup of broth, and sometimes another 8oz of skim milk. I guess I'm a fan of milk, hey? Plus lots and lots of water in between. So far it's all working, 11 days after surgery I'm down 18#.

Oddball here - dislike Premiere - Thoughts?
sasharbinx replied to tinytummy17's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've been on premier Protein shakes for about three or four months. chocolate and vanilla are the only flavored available at my local costco. Both were ok preop but now I can only stand chocolate. Just ordered a 30 serving canister of GENEPRO though so I'll see how that goes Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Oddball here - dislike Premiere - Thoughts?
shedo82773 replied to tinytummy17's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
HERE HERE another one that doesn't LIKE Premier Protein. I had to drink it 2 weeks before my RNY and 4 weeks after. I had "the back door trots" the whole time. At my check up I was told that I was Lactose Intolerant!! Gee Thanks!! I mean it was BAD!! Also, I commend anyone that likes and can drink Isopure junk!!! I LOVE GENEPRO unflavored protein, I add it to my coffee every day. I also like Atkins products. I just wish I had found the GENEPRO a while ago. Also, like was said above your taste will more than likely change after your WLS. BEWARE of buying to much ahead. -
Unflavored Protein Powder
jhbeck replied to Mariaike's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the GENEPRO as recommended here. They sell single serve packs so you can sample it, and easily take it out. I mixed it with broth today and it mixed in very well and I didn't notice it at all. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3 -
GENEPRO is shit. It's marketing hype. Basically BCAA. The only people I know who use it are women on this forum who don't like the flavor of whey. You can't get 30 grams of Protein from 15 grams of powder. They'll say it is some chemical magic that allows it to absorb as though it is 30 grams or some such BS though. Then they'll say their blood work came perfect and yadda yadda yadda... Go talk to as many lifters as possible and see if any of them use that crap. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

I am a big fan of inspire (White Chocolate strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecake are my favorites) - followed by Syntrax. For unflavored, GENEPRO is my go-to.

How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
xochtlem replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Syntrax nectar, Isopure, and GENEPRO are my best friends. I just started puréed food yesterday and was able to get most of my Protein from food. For bkfst I made a green strawberry & spinach smoothie with coconut Water and a scoop of Genepro. Each scoop is only a tbsp and 30g protein. You can add it into anything, it's great. A lot of times I add it to unsweetened applesauce. Then for a mid-morning snack I used a Hillshire Snacking pack (grilled chicken bites) and puréed the chicken with the honey mustard dipping sauce. Each pack is 15g protein and 120 cal. It was delicious. lunch was a pack of lemon pepper tuna mixed with a couple tsp mayo, puréed. That was only about 123 cal and 18g protein. And dinner I puréed some grilled chicken and hummus, with a couple of pitted kalamata olives thrown in. That was about 200 cal and 20g protein. In between all of that I drink as much water or Syntrax Nectar (if I need protein) as I can. Some days I don't hit 64 oz but I try to get as close as possible. Syntrax makes it easier to hit liquid and protein simultaneously. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
