  1. Today I can start Protein shakes/ powder. I just had my first "shot" of protein. Note to self GENEPRO mixed with crystal light is no good. I'm going to try it with broth next. Also I've been sitting here looking at my vitamins/prescriptions in fear. They always make me so sick. Well at least I have zolfran. I might have to suck it up and purchase the Patches for a little while. Picture is Vitamins, morn, noon, eve, bed plus calcium chews. On the right is my shot of crystal light on the right is crystal light with gene pro. My Breakfast of champions!!! Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

    Protein powder question

I know there is a lot of controversy over it, but I swear by Genepro. It was recommended by my Dr. and Nut. Sent from my LG-LS993 using BariatricPal mobile app

    VSG and a Hernia Repair

@@sh1211 I think if you try the GENEPRO (wee small scoop gives you 30g/serving!!!), you can get it in the smaller package to start, then if you like it, it goes up to a 3lb container.

    VSG and a Hernia Repair

@@pansy63 Sorry to interrupt.....but maybe this will work for you: On Amazon.com type in unflavored Protein powder in the search box. I use TG's and GENEPRO. Good luck!
  5. Chuck that Genepro in the trash. It is snake oil and a worthless protein. Stick with a tried and true whey protein that doesn't have a recent lawsuit loss. Optimum Nutrions Gold Standard is my go-to powder. I don't make shakes though, I make protein cakes. Scoop of protein powder, baking powder, and coffee creamer. 30-45 seconds in the microwave and done.
  6. Thanks! I'll check out that powder. My nutritionist required us to use Genepro for our supplement and I've also read the lawsuit against the company. Very interesting stuff.

    Coffee?

My Surgeon and my Nutritionist either one said anything about giving up my coffee. I would have been one to commit HAIRY SCARY!!! I love my coffee. I have my Espresso with GENEPRO unflavored Protein every day. It has 30grams of protein so for me it is a WIN WIN because I would drink my Espresso any way. I would say whatever your Dr.'s guidelines are follow them. You could ask them when and if you can have full blown coffee!!

Protein vs Calories what's too much

It sounds like you are packing a lot of calories into a shake. Try using Crystal Light for flavor, unflavored protein powder like Genepro which has far fewer calories than flavored whey protein, and water. My doctor says 90 grams of protein a day and stay under 50 grams of carbs. The total calories ends up between 600-800 depending on what my other sources of protein are plus vegetables or small amount of fruit. Portion size is key - no more than 3 oz of meat and then add in a very small salad or some veg. I would eat the yogurt alone for breakfast and have a protein shake mid-morning. This forum is a good place to look for ideas from people who have been through what you are experiencing. Good luck!

    Easy protein hack!

I'm only a week post op, but had used GENEPRO during my pre-op and even before that. Its tasteless, mixes well in just about anything I've tried. I know so many who are using it and they are all having good results. "Come off as bro-science d-bags". Why because they are muscle guys? What is your background that you say its not scientific enough.

    Protein Shakes

A lot of people love Premier protein shakes. I did until post op I couldn’t tolerate them; made me have diarrhea. Now I stick strictly to premier protein clear drinks & Genepro odorless, tasteless powder. I mix half a scoop Genepro into my premier protein with a crystal light and drink everyday. So much easier and cheaper than buying a multitude of other products. I still have powder I purchased pre op that I haven’t opened & eventually I may play around with them as drink them or give them away so moral of the story is try some now, see what ya like but don’t go overboard with buying lots of drinks because you may have different taste buds post op or you may not be able to tolerate it. Vitamin Shoppe is good about giving samples & GNC will go e you store credit for opened products you don’t like or full refund on stuff you haven’t opened

  12. I had a hard time at first also. I still cannot stand sweet. Cannot get yogart down. Cannot tolerate sweet drinks. I found I do like Crystal Lite lemonade....it is more tangy and not as sweet. Could not stand Protein drinks at first other than Adkins chocolate Royale.....but it is low in protein. I hated Premier drinks...30 grams of protein....but your taste changes and now I love the strawberry Premier drink (you can get these at a Walmart). My stand by during this time was Soup.....make refried Beans thin like soup and put cheese on top...I still go and get Wendy's Chili because of the convenience and it is high protein. Six grilled nuggets from Chick Fila has 23 grams of protein (I eat these for breakfast). I mix Crystal Light lemonade with GENEPRO and keep a big glass of it at my desk.....I get my protein and Water in at the same time. Most days I get in at least 100-120 grams of protein

    Protein

I agree with the unfavored Protein Powder!! I love GENEPRO!! It defintly has no taste. I add it to my Espresso everyday. It has 30grams of protein in one tablespoon. I consider this a WIN WIN thing. I would drink my coffee any way so its great for me. The only thing is I just wish I would have found it 3 years ago. Give it a try. It cost some but it last forever.

    Anyone Diabetic

I have a protein that is flavorless. I'm 3 years out and have tried many different proteins. I just found this product 3 months ago and it is great. The name of it is GENEPRO. I bought it online. If you have a AMAZON account you can go there to find it. Sorry about you having a hard time. I add the protein to my coffee mostly You can add it to anything you want the good thing is it has 30 grams of protein. I honestly can not taste it. I just mix it in a little warm water then add it to my coffee Works GREAT!!
  15. Funny I went back and looked at Protein list from surgeon and this is on it, going to buy one this weekend just to taste, will update with a [emoji106] or[emoji107] on taste. Also going to buy some Genepro unflavored protein, supposed to have equivalent of 30 grams per tablespoon and tastefree. We shall see

Able to eat more than expected...

Do you eat eggs? I used to take 3 parts egg beaters, 1 part fairlife milk and 1 part cheese to make a soft scrambled egg. I also make my own Protein shakes using fairlife chocolate milk and GENEPRO. I blend it in my ninja with ice for a shake. It has a good chocolate flavor and covers up the genepro. I also add a tbs of PB2 for a change. Oikios triple zero is a decent high protein Greek yogurt if you can handle Greek. HW 385 SW 359 CW 305 Sleeved 10/5/16

    first post-- protein question

At 4 days post-op, really focus on getting your Fluid volume in vs Protein grams. You'll be okay for a while with less protein as long as you're getting close to your Water goal. Going forward, I second getting some unflavored Protein powder. There are many brands, I'm a GENEPRO fan but there are other brands that others have had good luck with. Find one, because once you get to pureed/soft foods, that powdered protein will be the key to your success. I put it in cottage cheese, refried Beans, yogurt, pudding...anything soft and moist. I'm over 6 months post-op and I still put a scoop in my coffee every morning. Good luck!
  18. I have done a few half marathons but I am thinking about doing a full. I am nervous and wondering how you manage your food intake on long run days? or during the race? I run in the mornings so I usually just have a cup of coffee with GENEPRO in it. And then if I do 8-10 miles I might have a few gel chews. Thanks so much. ~LA

    Questions, 7 days until surgery

I have tried many many different Protein drinks...I can say that these are the ones that I like: ATKINS has great drinks and they taste great, MYOPLEX Rich dark chocolate Muscle Milk banana flavored and Gramcracker mixed BUT...By far the best one for me is GENEPROunflavored. I am a coffee drinker so I take my Keurig Cup of coffee and Sweet Cream and add 1 scoop of GENEPRO!!! No taste n change in my coffee. So it is a WIN WIN because I would drink my coffee anyway so it is a plus!! One thing I would say don't buy a whole lot of protein because most people's taste changes after their surgery and lets face it Protein stuff is NOT cheap. I would hate to really know how much money I spent on trying to find one that worked for me!!
  20. I'm in the purée stages and wondered how do u get most of ur protein in? Tonite I'm trying 1 scoop of genepro in 1 c fairlife chocolate milk for 43 G protein. What do u do? Thx!

    Post op diet

I'm about two days out of surgery, just came home last night. Today I've been able to get down about 40 ounces mixed with 2 tablespoons of GENEPRO medical grade Protein which means I've gotten 60 grams of protein today! I've also been using a timer on my phone set for every 7 minutes or so. My problem hasn't been getting enough Water but drinking too fast. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Food

There are various "recipes" for shakes that you can find online, and some are surprisingly yummy. I like Unjury's chocolate Protein shake with a little PB2 powder blended in, or a Torani sugar free syrup. If you haven't checked out the blog "The World According to Eggface" I recommend popping over and looking at her shake recipes. Starting about a week out I began making smoothies using a Greek or Bulgarian yogurt that is high in protein and low in carbs and some frozen fruit. It felt more like a "normal" meal to me. Dr. Matthew Weiner is a bariatric surgeon who has a video on YouTube about the "set point smoothie" that he recommends to his patients. I also like adding GENEPRO or another unflavored Protein Powder to Crystal Light. For me finding things to look forward to and distract myself was beneficial during recovery. I took advantage of the time off to binge watch several shows everyone raves about that I'd never had time to watch, read some great books, and got little treats like fresh flowers and candles that add a simple pleasure to the day. That helped me to take my mind off food. I had cravings for things that first week that I haven't desired at all ever since. Head hunger is totally normal, and for most people it lessens with time.

What to expect two weeks post op?

I was exhausted and barely getting my fluids in. After surgery I was unable to drink protein shakes, thank god for unflavored Genepro that you can order on Amazon or get at GNC.
  25. The only "studies" are ones they have done themselves. I have found no third party confirmation of their claims. If you want to use GENEPRO, I would advise counting it as 15 grams of Protein toward your daily total instead of the claimed 30 grams. Logically, it's not physically possible to fit 30 grams into 15 grams. Grams are a measure of mass. The claim is that their specific formula of protein is absorbed and utilized by the body at a much higher rate than "normal" protein supplements, thus you allegedly get the BENEFIT of twice as much protein in half the mass. But again, there are no independent studies to prove their claims at this point. So you would be totally taking it on faith and running the risk of only getting half as much protein as you think you are. That's why I recommend counting it as just the actual and real 15 grams of protein. If you are getting the "benefit" of more protein because of their special process, then great, but at least you can be sure you are still getting your minimums in by counting it as only 15 grams.
