  1. -My boyfriend picked me up (no guy has ever done that or attempted to) I proceeded to freak out and say don't do that again because I was so scared it was too much and he laughed and said it wasn't bad and I'm being crazy I've never liked being picked up. Before it was because I worried I'd break the person picking me up now I worry I'll get hurt. Being able to sit on fallen treen branches without snapping them (I spend a lot of time outside/hiking/by the Water and it's nice to sit on them now) Not necessarily Tree branches but there are some camping chairs I had to avoid in the past because I was so big and now I don't even weight check. Just fitting in any seat and not having to worry about it anymore I love this probably top 5 NSV of my surgery. Not worrying about fitting or breaking the seat. Having small boobs relative to the rest of my body (I hated having big boobs) My boobs are still big compared to the rest of me. Plan on fixing that surgically next summer.
  2. Yes!!! That towel NSV nearly made me cry when it happened. I still tear-up when I say that I'm no longer diabetic.
  3. 🤩Made it to the Towel NSV!!!! No longer Insulin-Resistant!!!! Didn’t have to look for jeans in the Plus-Size section!!!! Bought a sweater sized M that I have to exchange because it’s too big!!!!
  4. That is awesome! I look at the WLS as a tool to jump start the weight loss process. The rest is maintenance. Enjoy your NSV. I'm now down from size 54" pant to 31-30" depending on the cutting and I know the feeling
  5. My two biggest NSVs recently were fitting into a regular-sized hotel robe and being able to go to the store and buy a new shirt (size large!) when I spilled coffee all over the one I wore to work. Pre-op I would have been totally stuck unless I was lucky enough that one of the stores near my office had something that could fit a 3X.
  6. Had a couple NSVs over the weekend. On Friday I was at the gym walking on the treadmill and challenged myself to walk for an hour straight without a break and I did it no problem- I wouldn't have been able to do that a few months ago. The other one was I was carrying some laundry up the stairs and got half way up and realized I didn't have a hand on the handrail! My balance was really bad for a while so I always had to use the handrail, but it seems to be getting better as I am losing.

    NSV RODE A BIKE

I am 6 months out HW 380 SW 330 CW 263 I did it! I did a practice run to work and back 5 miles total, I would have never been able to think about riding a bike to work. I lost 117 lbs so far and I can't believe I just rode a bike 5 miles. I feel amazing. It's been a journey that I am glad I took. And guess what I weight less than my husband, well depends on the day. I went from a tight 28w to comfortable 20w clothes. I still have a ways to go, but nothing can stop me now. Next on my bucket list is skydiving. Let's do this! 8. 100 pounds lost is AMAZING! Two weeks post surgery is early on. Be patient. I’m two years out. Trust me, you’ll have tons of NSVs!!!
  9. Can’t wait for this. I lost 90lbs presurgery and I’m down about 10 more post ( just over 2 weeks). And I feel I should be happy with 100 down, but I’m struggling to find NSVs and this is a big one I’m looking forward to.
  10. I think the best NSV for me was being able to use a normal size towel and not have the gap. I have since gained almost all of my weight back after 2 kids, a blown ACL and Esophagus issues the last couple of years. I am going back in to tomorrow to have my band filled a little bit more. Crossing my fingers, I can find the green zone and get back to losing. It has definitely gotten harder to lose the weight as I have aged. When I was 20 it was just falling off.

    March 23 buddies yet?

I had the bypass on 3/16 and have only lost 16 total. From what I've seen, that's technically low-average for bypass patients with a 300 lb starting weight. I don't really care though because I know it'll come off. I'm meeting my protein and water goals and walking 1-2 miles per day. Something's gotta give, you know? I think a lot of us are just primed to hold onto weight until the bottom gives out. But I will say the non-scale victories are something to celebrate! I can sleep through the night now, my high BP has reversed, no more GERD to manage. Hopefully you have some nsv's to look forward to. I made a list of 15 things I look forward to from this surgery that can't be 'found' on a number on a scale. I made the list for this exact scenario - when you feel like you've stalled or get discouraged. If you don't have one, I definitely recommend making one. Hopefully that helps!
  12. Latest NSV: The sneakers I wear almost on a daily basis have shoelaces AND a side zipper. I tied them once in October 2023, when I first got them, and only use the zipper to put them on and take them off. Since my surgery in January, I’ve had to retie my laces twice, because the shoes are too loose now!
  13. Bandedbut

    Just had surgery 2/14

My surgeon never said a thing about a binder! On the bright side, 4 days post op I was able to poop! NSV!
  14. Thanks so much for sharing your mini goals @summerseeker! I'm going to make a task for myself to list out some mini goals so that when the time comes I'm reminded that the NSVs are just as important. These will also serve as reminders of how I was feeling BEFORE surgery and the kinds of experiences I had been longing for. Love this idea! 😀
  15. Yes to this one too! The bench stools at the airport that are bolted into the floor, with a metal back that I never used to sit in (I'd stand at the bench instead) are now super roomy and I could plop a child on my lap and still fit. No-Longer-Fearing-Chairs is honestly one of the enduring NSV high-points. 🤸‍♀️
  16. Love this NSV. For me - gone are the days of panicking when a waiter starts to show my family to a booth, rather than a table where I can push my chair back as far as I need. Some of the most public embarrassment I've faced during my life as a person with obesity.
  17. Here is a fun one! So, I have always been super fat so when it came to food in public I would over think things. For example: If we went to a serve yourself place (buffet, wedding, event, etc) I would NEVER bring back extra food or an extra plate for my wife or anyone I was with. I didn't want to be "the fat girl with 2 plates". Or, if we went somewhere with assigned seating, I would always get the pick of the seat I wanted, hoping to be an end seat so I can overflow into the isle... OK OK You get the point. We went to a Broadway show (Beetlejuice- was awesome, different conversation) and when I went to pick my seat my wife said "Nope you are smaller than me now, I want that seat" HAHA I didn't think much of it. But, then this weekend we were at an all inclusive resort which had like a late night snack grab and go thing. I said I was going to see what they had to get a snack and my wife says "bring me back something"... I did... 2 PLATES! THAT'S RIGHT, THAT'S THE NSV! HAHA I carried 2 plates of food back from the self serve bar and didn't even hesitate. Funny but a NSV for me, none the less!!!
  18. Yes! I had a blue handbag in storage which, even with the strap extended as long as it could, would sit waaaay too close to my armpit pre-surgery. Now it sits at my hip. The downside is that it's spent SO long in storage the faux leather is starting to disintegrate. The NSV that got away!
  19. I love a cross body handbag. My NSV is having to shorten the strap because the bag hangs way to low now that my back is so much thinner.
  20. NSV so far this year: I wore my boots first time since early November and they fit big, I'm finally out of the morbidly obese classification and I fit into a size 14 jeans that I have not worn in over 4 years.
  21. I can't believe it has been a year already since I had my surgery. Time really flies. This past year was filled with lots of major milestones, NSVs and overall positive things. I decided to write this post to hopefully inspire others who are on the fence or those who are already on their weight loss journey. I had my surgery (MGB) in Egypt on 30 January 2022. My sister had hers earlier that month and it didn't take her long to convince me to do it as well. I flew to Egypt on 28th, admitted to hospital on 29th and had the surgery 30th morning. I stayed in the hospital for two days and rested for a week in Cairo before flying back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The whole process went smooth and the recovery was quick with no major issues. Just a bit of discomfort which is normal for any surgery. I was not given any specific diet to follow except for some guidelines - one week of clear liquids, 1 week of pureed food followed by gradual introduction of solid food in week 3. I will start with the positives and the current stats. The negatives / issues are listed below My starting weight was 149 kg. I was 85 kg yesterday. That means I’ve lost a total of 64 kg or 43% of my starting weight. I still have like 15 kg to go. The weight loss was quick at first then started to become slower but I’m more than happy with where I’m at right now. I didn’t follow a strict diet but rather reduced my food intake and ate healthier. I always start with my proteins vegetables and end with carbs. It helps that I cook myself so I know what goes into my food and can control the portions. I now enjoy food better than before because I really take my time to eat. There are some foods that I can’t tolerate like pasta, scrambled eggs etc. Not sure why but I’m not too concerned by that. Here are some of the major achievements and NSVs I’ve experienced the past year (a part from the weight loss): I went from size 52” pant to size 34-36 inches pants depending on the cutting. Here is a comparison between the pants I wore on surgery day and the current ones. Custom-made shirt on surgery day vs the one I wore yesterday (Size M) Here is me in December 2021 and yesterday morning (left to right) I got myself a mountain bike when I went below 100 Kg and that helped a lot. I try to go on a ride around the town whenever time and weather allow. I’m planning to do this more often after the rainy season. I feel more fit and energetic overall. I was able to join my family in a lot of fun activities which was impossible last year. I took the kids to the water park last weekend and we all had a great time. My son told me that he is so happy I could go on the water slide with him and that made the whole journey worth it. I’m planning to join the gym and start rebuilding muscles and tone my body. I’ve some loose skin here and there but it doesn’t bother me. I might end up having it removed but it is too early to decide now. There were also some negatives (as with everything in life) which I consider to be minor : - The 6 months blood work showed that I had Vitamin B12 and D deficiency. The doctor asked me to take high doses of Vitamin D and daily Vitamin B12 tabs which I’ve been doing over the last 6 months. I’m planning to redo the test soon. - I struggled with heartburn and indigestion early on but I learned how to control it. I don’t add a lot of spices to my food now and will stop eating if I feel any discomfort. I still get it every now and then but OTC heartburn medicines really help. - Loose skin specially on my arms and thighs (but that was expected) Overall I’m very happy with my decision and what I’ve achieved over the past year. I’m really looking forward to this coming year.

    January 2023

Just a vent. . . I'm 2 weeks post op today. I had a bad weekend with eating. I think I did ok with water. But I am 1 wk into puree and did eat a couple slices of deli turkey which I won't be doing again for a couple weeks, because it made my belly upset. So it was my first event since my surgery. My nieces 16th birthday. My sister had soda, turkey or ham sub sandwiches and chips. I drank water and had 2 slices of deli turkey. I did better than I would of pre-surgery. So that was a NSV. But like I said in first paragraph it did make me very full and uncomfortable. That night my sister ordered pizza. I had some cheese and sauce topping and a couple mozzarella sticks. Again felt like I ate too much. But just relaxed for the rest of the night drinking my water. I now realize how toxic my family is on food. The stress being around them is hard. But I have learned new things which I feel this whole weightloss self-care journey is all about. Got home and right back to my puree and water. 1 more week then soft foods. Which I think I will do pretty good at. I just miss chewing the most. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Two new NSV’s: most of my necklaces I have always needed an extender for, but this week I was able to wear one of my favorites without an extender. When I went for a drs appt, my doctor proudly stated… I’m soon going to need the regular blood-pressure cuff for you! Progress has been slow… slower than I’d like, but things seem to be moving in the right direction still.
  24. I go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off. I had my post-op today. I'm down 18 lbs from the day of surgery. I'm feeling great and getting my 60+ g of protein in and tons of water. I do 2oz of soft foods every 2 hours. Today my BP was 114/70 and I haven't been on BP meds since 2 days before surgery. I sort of feel like that's a huge NSV already!
  25. My new NSV: I was able to finish an entire spinning class without panting for breath or quitting early! It’s amazing how much losing weight can make working out easier! Now I’m training for a triathlon coming up in a few months!!
