    Nutritional content

I have done that for certain dishes I made but for the most part, I make my meals separate from the rest of my family because I like to keep track of the EXACT amount I am eating right now. I use www.fatsecret.com or www.myfitnesspal.com to help me with the caloric content based on the measurements I used for each ingredient. I try to make certain dishes for myself once a week and then I package individual meals that are pre-measured so I don't have to guess the nutritional content. I only cook the main ingredients and then I add any cheese, sour cream, salsa, etc. when I re-heat it so I can measure exactly how much I am eating. You can also use this software: http://www.dietmastersoftware.com/dietmaster_2100_nutrition-software.html I hope that helps.
  3. Soooo, I'm trying not to panic, but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced this. I'm two week post op today and I've been drinking my protein shakes, water, creamy soups, applesauce, and yogurt and I've been tolerating them fine! Today, my nurse prac told me that I could start to introduce retried beans to my diet and I did. I are almost 2 ounzes, but didn't feel, that super full sensation that everyone talks about, which. Has me nervous. The only reason I didn't eat more was because that's all I had in my bowl. I'm concerned because my sleeve is 3 ounces, but I haven't felt that full sensation yet. I'm looking at others pics about how they took two bites and were so full, but I'm not having that....I'm wondering is my sleeve really only three ounces? Why am I tolerating so much? I'm nervous and frustrated!
  4. It's going to come down to how well your surgery goes. For many they feel like they can do anything. Others are on lifting restrictions, deal with a lot of pain, and find they have little to no energy to do much. Once I was home (note I had a prolonged hospital stay due to complications) I was okay on my own during the day while my wife was at work. However trying to manage the house and dogs without her would have been a struggle that first week. I recall having a really bad dizzy spell in the shower one day and damn near passed out. Luckily I didn't and my wife was at home, but that could have easily turned badly for me in a hurry. Not trying to scare you...just things to consider. I hate to give a non-answer but this is one of those things where it really will come down to how you feel afterwards. Hopefully you have somebody that could at least stop by to check on you or be able to ring somebody up in a jiffy if needed. An alternative would be to consider looking into having somebody short term. Kind of like that Visiting Angel service for seniors. Even if it isn't about the physical need for help have somebody check in on you. Keep in mind as well that typically they (1) won't let you drive home from the hospital by yourself and (2) don't want you driving the first few days if you're on pain killers.
  5. My insurance company had the same requirement, but I was unable to fulfill it since I had not visited any doctors offices or clinics in the three preceding years (I was uninsured from 2010 to 2014). I provided self-reported weights to fill in the gaps and this sufficed enough for the insurance company to approve payment for the sleeve.

    Hungry

I have been hungry since surgery as well, some people seem to lose hunger post op but it seems more the exception than the rule. The first few weeks post op I recall the hunger being very uncomfortable, like my stomach was trying to eat itself, that has settled down though. Overall, my hunger is much more manageable now than pre-op and I feel much more in control of my choices. In the liquid phase, it's really hard to be full..fluids go right through. Once you get into solid food you will realize the sleeve's full potential. Hang in there, it gets better.

    Atlanta sleevers

So this was my first surgery ever so I was nervous at first. Also I was a high BMI patient. Once at the hospital EVERYONE was so awesome! When it was time to go home I didn’t want to leave. Once I went to sleep in the OR I don’t remember anything until they wheeled me to my room. Apparently I was in recovery for a couple of hours first but I don’t remember it at all. I really didn’t have much pain. They kept the drugs in my IV going so I’m sure that’s why the pain didn’t bother me. When I left the hospital on day 2 I actually just took liquid Tylenol and ended up not needing the Oxy prescription given to me. My incisions never bothered me either. I had 5 of them. The bigger one had some stitches poke through which I will show the Dr. next week. Now, I did throw up once (with blood) while I was still in the hospital. I’m not sure why other that I tried to get up too fast. I walked every 2 hours and was able to start drinking and eating jello the same evening of my surgery. I took 4 weeks off from work and I needed it. Trying to relearn eating has been a struggle and I have been tired. Had a problem getting all my protein in and still working on that.
  8. Hello fellow sleevers- need some advice and encouragement. I am two weeks post op and having a real hard time with the second phase foods. Soup, yogurt, and a soft boiled egg were “god sends” after being on clears for the first week. However, after “enjoying” some of those for the first few days, I now find myself having an aversion to all of them. Just the site and thought of protein shakes, yogurt, eggs and soup makes me nauseous. Even sipping water, something that I always did prior to surgery, doesn’t interest me. Is this normal?? Have my taste buds gone through some transition along with the surgery? I’m staying the course and trying to consume at least 70-90 g of protein, but it is real difficult!!!! any advice? Is this just temporary?? Will it all change once mushy foods are allowed? Yes, weight is coming off but it sucks in there process. Thanks for you help and advice.

    Insurance

I have personal choice of bc of PA. All they wanted was the psyche eval and the info from the surgeon. I got my approval 9 days after the surgeon sent in the precert! I still had to get the tests the surgeon wanted so altogether it took 7 weeks to get surgery scheduled !! Good luck

I have a cold 2 days before surgery! Will they cancel

I just am coming off a really bad 2 week cold (yes, many last that long) and no joke, I can’t imagine not being able to breathe through my nose and coughing my head off after surgery. I couldn’t work for a week. A few colds are a week only, but it is just hard to predict the course. Hopefully it will/did work out!
  12. Good Morning! I have BCN insurance and have to go through the 6 months of appointments with my primary doctor before a surgery can be scheduled. Only 5 more weeks til that final date!! How long of a wait did anyone have for the surgery to be scheduled after they completed their insurance requirements? Do I have a chance in hell of it happening relatively soon or will I likely have to wait several months for a date? Just curious how this works. Thanks for your answers!!
  13. I have Aetna, and my advise to you is once you go to your appointment on the 11th and they provide you with all of the requirement make them as quickly as possible. The requirements for me were, endoscopy, 4 consecutive monthly, visits with my surgeon, cardiologist, psychologist, sleep test, 3 consecutive visits with a physiatrist, 3 consecutive dietitian visit, stress test, a visit to see my PCP for clearance. It is also require me to get one last pre-op class, and meeting with the anesthesiologist and blood work. If you smoke you will need to be off nicotine and may nee to do other test(I am not a smoker so not sure on the test.). Lastly some surgeon require a liver shrinking fast. Mine is for 14 days. I seen where some people have to do one week, a few days, one month or not at all. Make sure you ask as much questions as possible so you understand the process and the requirement. I started my in October, but I choose to spread my appointment out, as all the appointment became overwhelming and I had my mind set on April. I will be having my surgery April 29th. I hope this helps and wishing you the best.

    Chest/Gas Pain Ouch!!

I was banded March 31 and had HORRIBLE gas pain for three weeks. I also was in so much pain I didn't drink nearly enough and ended up with an INSANELY painful urinary tract infection. The best thing for the gas pain is lots of walking, even if you don't feel like it, lay on the side that hurts with the heating pad on the pain. Don't be afraid to take pain meds if you were prescribed them, or ibuprofen at the very least to reduce inflammation. Gas X really didn't do much for me. I'm now 4 weeks post op and feeling great. I have lost 30lbs since I started my pre-op diet a week before surgery. I'm exercising daily and eating a WHOLE lot less than I ever thought possible. 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day and I'm good. You'll get there!

    How to not be impatient

Protein, fluids and change in diet are big points for me. I try to keep my body shocked by changing my diet and exercise around a lot plus just keep hitting those protein and fluid goals. This journey can be so frustrating. I've lost 113 pounds (83) since surgery but I'm still frustrated as I've been stalled for 2 months now. I hit 100 pounds down total around the 7 month mark but I've struggled since hitting that milestone. There will be ups and there will be downs but you have to just keep moving forward, try not to allow old habits to creep back in and know that every pound lost leaves your body a pound healthier.

    Anxious about Covid

Well I had my surgery pre-Covid, but I live in a house where the three other people I lived with all caught Covid and I had to hole myself up in my room so I didn't catch it. I didn't catch it, but one of the people I lived with died from it (she was 86 and had COPD though). My sister had a C-Section in October though and was in the hospital for two days and then spend two weeks in and out of the hospital NICU and neither she, her son, nor husband caught it so my advice is to try and remain positive. I'm sure you'll be fine as the doctors and nurses are doing their absolute best to stop the spread and they are being tested frequently (my mom is a nurse and so is my aunt). My advice is to take probiotics if you're not, it helps boost your immune system.
  18. Yes it was - Try and clear your head, The pre OP part was the worse, Keep it up the payoff is priceless. Switch up different liquids, Use Jellow - Do all you can to keep it up. But it is a Bi#$tch for sure! Everyone on this site has done it and nobody posts - WHAT A GREAT WEEK OF LIQUIDS, GOD CANT WAIT TO DO THAT AGAIN. But its the only time you have to, post op is much easier, nerves are gone and you are not hungry Good luck - i decided to dang sleep the whole week
  19. I doubt it, currently a lot of hospitals aren't even allowing visitors or someone to wait with some just before surgery. I can't imagine they would allow three children in your hospital room. Who would look after them? Who would feed them? Who would keep them out of the way of medical equipment? Who would pay for it all? Does the hospital have a social worker? If so perhaps have a chat with them, they may have some options for you or be able to facilitate something at the hospital. Other than that, if friends aren't able to look after the children for the three days you should look at delaying your surgery until family are able to assist.
  20. I had my band placed 3/3/08. I spent 3 days in the hospital for complications of pain/vomiting. To date i have not lost one ounce. My daily calories are 800 to 1000 and I am getting in about 45-60 grams of Protein daily. I still have constant pain at the port site which at times is almost unbearable. (I have an extremely high pain tolerance so this concerns me, but my doctor has no thoughts.) Is there anyone else who has had no weight loss in the first 2 weeks? What am I doing wrong.

  22. http://www.5daypouchtest.com Above is the link to the pouch test. I am somewhat new to the band still...had surgery on November 4, 2008. I would not be a good person to answer the rest of your questions. I'm sorry. I do have the sense though, after talking with my doctor, that tighter isn't always better. I find that when I get less calories, my progress stalls. My body might be more sensitive to panic attacks when it thinks I'm going to starve it. ha ha ha So actually, eating more works best for me. In the morning, when the pouch is real tight, I stick to Protein shakes. Even though I'm not hungry, for me, it's much better than just waiting until I am actually hungry. I also try my best to time my liquids so that I do strictly follow the drinking rules of the pouch. I hope you will get some good suggestions here and also some support from the team that does your fills. Have they offered you any suggestions??
  23. Thanks for you help everyone. There are definitely some suggestions I can try. I am going to weigh myself tomorrow morn and see where I am in a week. I am going to start the 5 day pouch diet.
  24. Yes dr mueller is awesome. You must be excited, and yes, let's absolutely keep in touch. Good luck next week!
  25. I've have been stalling so frequently that I have really been down in the dumps lately. These past two months I would lose a few pounds and for the remainder of that week and the next week I would just bounce up and down with the pounds I'd lost on the scales. Then I will lose a few more and do the same thing for two weeks again. It really can be nerve wrecking, but thank goodness I measured in the beginning to let me know that I am progressing no matter what the scales say! These are my measurements and inches lost. 03/18/2011 neck 17.25 arms 19/19 bust 55.5 waist 54 belly button/lower waist 56 hips 59 thighs 35/35 calves 19.25/19.25 06/06/2011 neck 15 (2.25 inches) arms 17/17 (4 inches) bust 48(7.5 inches) waist 46 (8 inches) belly button/lower waist 48 (8 inches) hips 54(5 inches) thighs 29/29 ( 12 inches) calves 17/17 (4.5 inches) You think that you are big now until you look back and see just how BIG you actually were!!! Like a whole 51.25 inches BIGGER..... LOL
