    Anyone from the AZ?

I used Dr Swain at Scottsdale Healthcare, now HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea (?) -- not for a revision, but for gastric bypass - he was terrific for me --
  2. I got sleeved on the 5 th i am a band revision. Honestly going well other than Bad heartburn. I did not have it before. For most it goes away after a couple months , hope I am one of lucky ones. Was very weak on clear liquids and now way way better on full liquids. . Minimal pain maybe just with certain movements and mainly on my removal of Port. Lost 8 since morning of surgery and since started full liquids on Thursday scale has not moved and I am ok with that. .

weight loss after revision is almost always slower than it is after a "virgin" surgery, and on top of that, you're starting off at a much lower weight than most of us, which also means slow weight loss. And...you're about three weeks out. Just in time for the infamous "three week stall" to boot.

I'm not sure I know what you mean, general sleeve info? Revision info? Little experiences here and there? Anything specific you want to know? I LOVE my sleeve, I absolutely love it. I was afraid to do it for a long time, I was afraid it would make my problems permanent. Instead it has been the very best thing I have done in a very long time!
  5. Hi Abigail! I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to make an apt to see your Dr., or in the very least, talk to your NUT. This person will have the knowledge to help you & suggest what you can do to get back on track. More importantly, do NOT be ashamed of yourself. This is a tough journey & we really need to work hard to make it work BUT IT DOES WORK!!! You didn't mention what you're eating or how much. That's the first thing I'd look at. I had my surgery done on Jan 16th, so I'm about 5 1/2 weeks out. I had my band removed & revised to the sleeve. Here's an example of what I eat at this point. Keep in mind, everyone's food menu is slightly different the first 6 - 8 weeks. It all depends on the Dr's office: Breakfast: 1/2 - 3/4 cup of egg whites mixed with feta cheese, turkey crumbles and spinach or 1 egg feta cheese, turkey crumbles and spinach or Protein drink (Greek yogurt, Pure Protein vanilla creme shake w/ 1 scoop of Pure Protein vanilla powder). I actually don't like chocolate that much lunch 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of tuna fish blended with low-fat mayo 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of leftover dinner from night before Dinner 1/2 - 3/4 cup of any lean protein (like homemade ham & navy bean Soup in the crock pot) 1/2 -3/4 cup of turkey chili (in the crock pot) tonight I'm making Lemony Lentil & Spinach Soup (yup, in the crock pot again, LOL) *No, I don't use the crock pot all the time, but it does help) I hope this might help you. But, I really think you should call your NUT. They're job is to help you. Do NOT be ashamed. Nothing to be ashamed of. You are NOT alone my dear. Most of us enjoy helping & encouraging others. You CAN do this & you WILL be successful. Best of luck & hang in there!
  6. To make my long story as short as possible. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol in 2008 the onset was an extreme weight gain that I had no idea how to control. So I started going to mediplan weight loss clinic got me some diet pills too curb my appetite and a B12 shot. I began to lose weight but after awhile the weight began to come back even though I was working out regularly but the pills no longer suppressed my appetite. I kept trying different diets but nothing seemed to work. So in 2010 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the age of 25. So again I changed my eating habits continued to workout but the pounds kept adding up until I was almost 300lbs. My diabetes was completely out of control so for the next 5 years I stayed in and out of the hospital battling my diabetes and my weight would drop 20lbs and I'll gain 20lbs back. Until November of 2013 I was crying because I had been once again hospitalized for my diabetes and I was truly afraid I wouldn't live to see the New Year and it was right around the corner. I went to see my PCP for a follow up visit and was talking to the nurse and she suggested weight loss surgery to me she said it would help with getting all of my medical problems under control. I began to do research on WLS, I talked to my mom about the benefits and risk of WLS and my mom told me she'd rather see me trying to do something about my condition instead sitting around waiting to die because she was not prepared to bury another one of her kids. That conversation with my mom encouraged me to go through with WLS. SO I went to two different weight loss seminars that informed me about the Lapband, Gastric Sleeve and the Gastric Bypass. With both seminars I knew right away that the Lapband wasn't the option for me. So I was left to choose between the sleeve and the bypass. I heard so many good things about the sleeve and so many scary things about the bypass until I chose the Gastric Sleeve. Which was really the wrong choice for me. I was sleeved May 2014. So I'm now 14 months out from my original surgery date and has been very unsuccessful with the gastric sleeve. The morning of surgery I weighed 268 and I'm now 215lbs. I've followed my diet exactly as it is in my binder. I've been dealing with a lot of vomiting and my acid reflux is 10times worse than before I was sleeved. My diabetes is still a major problem. After 14 months of struggling with my sleeve my doctors have now just decided to scope me to see why I'm having issues with my stomach. I still exercise 3-5 times a week and I have yet to have a significant weight loss my sleeve hasn't helped as promised. Now I'm looking into a revision to the RNY bypass hoping it will fix my issues and assist with my weight loss. My gastric sleeve was an epic fail..... Am I the only person that hasn't been successful.

Thank you, but noooooo, you don't want to imitate me! Due to esophagus issues, I was on soft foods for 8 months! Then because of reflux I had a revision from sleeve to bypass on Halloween. It's been a long year. Hope you have a smoother journey 😁 Do you still have a lap band?

    Lapband slipped twice

I have Anthem BC BS. I had band surgery in fall 2007..worked pretty good until summer of 2008...had a blockage, then gall bladder removed in November 2008..surgeon took out band and repositioned it during that surgery (that option not even discussed before the gall bladder removal). Anyway, it never worked right again. So, November 2013 I have requested to it removed and revised to the RNY. Insurance okayed band removal, but denied the RNY. I had to go thru all the nut classes, and psych evaluation again. will finish that up next week, and resubmit the RNY request. I will let you know what the out come is, I hope by the end of February. I am getting quite anxious and still nervous that they will deny me again. Good luck to you, I have seen many on here that have no problem getting approval for revisions.

    BCBS Federal timing question

I also have bcbs fep. I need to get my 10 year old band out because of slippage and dilated esophagus. Doc thinks they will approve revision at the same time. My bmi is 30 which is low for surgery but with my band I have gained back 30 pounds over the last year or so. I guess the way the doctor describes it to insurance they realize the cost effectiveness of revision. I have a 3 month wait. The doc said they haven't gotten denied yet for a case like mine so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Its only been 2 weeks so I have lots of praying to do
  12. I am sorry to hear about your issues. I actually had a band put in August of 2009 and had issues similar to yours and was not getting the results from the band that we wanted. I had my band removed and gastric bypass all in the same surgery. I am 5 weeks post op. I feel great. I am losing weight and everything is healing well. I wa my doctors first "all in one" revision and she said it could not have gone better. She is thrilled with the progress I have made and how well I am recovering... I go back to work next week (6 weeks out) but I could have gone back after 4 if I wanted to....
  13. So, this week marks a pretty awesome point in my WLS journey. I started my WLS journey with the band at 270lbs, sleeve revision at 263lbs, and today I'm weighing in at 135. I've lost literally half of pre-op self ! ! ! Just thought this is a really awesome moment for me so I thought I would share. I bought new skinny jeans this week from Rue 21, they're a size 8/9 and they are way smaller than my other 9's in the closet. I seriously love my sleeve. For those of you debating this surgery, do it. I couldn't be happy with my sleeve. I couldn't imagine living the life I'm living today.
  14. I was banded for four years and then revised to the sleeve. I loved my band the first two years, but then had problems. I had it slip several times, my port flipped twice, I had erosion and even with an empty band, I couldn't keep anything but ice cream down. So, I had to revise to something that worked better with my body.

so i told two people today...

You aren't being paranoid or anything of the sort. I chose to tell everyone that would listen about my decision to revise from the band to VSG. I only had one friend here at the time so it wasn't a huge ordeal. I ended up losing that friend because of the surgery, and well she's pretty psycho so it wasn't a loss I mourned. Many people are simply ignorant when they hear about WLS. They don't understand because they haven't struggled with it. My husband is naturally thing, and while he supported my journey, he didn't understand why I couldn't keep it off. You may get mixed reactions. With my new found circle of friends through our spouse's club, I have found nothing but support and encouragement. I bowl on our spouse's club league, and my bowling partner is going through the steps to get the sleeve with one of my surgeons. Another of my friends is on Addipexx (legalized speed) to lose weight for the 6th time, and she made kind of harsh comment last week at lunch. She said " well if I gain back the weight this time, I'm going to have make the same drastic decision you did to have my stomach removed." Now, this is coming from a 50 year old woman that has taken prescription diet pills 6 times, loses 60-75lbs, and always gains it back plus some. My reply was " yeah, it seems drastric, but losing and gaining the same 400 pounds over the last year seems like a big waste of time, and I was ready to live my life to the fullest and quit the yo yo'ing up and down." She just looked at me like I was crazy for saying that to her, but it's the truth, that woman has lost and gained over 500 lbs in the last 10 years, and she's trying to tell me what I chose was drastic. My mom was not supportive of my decision to revise. She has a band, and has a bad case of morbid jealousy (google that for a definition), and she no longer comments on my weight loss because I weight 40lbs less than her now. She has a horrible life with the band, but she told me once "I'd rather puke a couple times a week than make a wreckless decision to have my stomach removed." My reply to her was " make sure you remind yourself of that thought process when your band slips, or erodes into your stomach, then we'll talk about wreckless." I don't tolerate bad behavior from people, and I speak my mind quite often. If they don't want to be supportive that's fine, it's my body, my future, and my life. Yes, it's nice to have support, but I have found those that truly care about your well-being, and future will stand by your side through thick and thin. Also, education is power, ignorance is the number 1 reason why people aren't supportive. It was easier for me to explain the procedure, the benefits, the risks, and the overall long-term effects of WLS instead of getting defensive. Once you educate someone, they can form a more solid opinion, and hopefully realize that it's not for everyone, but to give you the best chance at survival with obesity related complications and co-morbidities, WLS is a choice your making to improve your quality of life. Sorry for the ramble. I'm pretty opinionated about WLS and people's reaction and lack of support. It's like someone who has never suffered with alcoholism trying to bash an alcoholic for trying to get clean and relapsing. They just don't understand, and their ignorance clouds their judgement on the subject.
  16. My port has been noticeable since I had the surgery. It was even more so prior to a port revision to relocate it. It definitely becomes more noticeable as I lose additional weight. Something that I've just learned to live with. The low profile port was not an option for me per my surgeon.

    Gastroparesis

I posted a few days ago in post-op fourm and got the suggestion to post here as well. Here is the link to my original post http://www.verticals...ss/#entry710830 Basically, has anyone else suffered from gastroparesis as a result of surgery? My doctor's seem to think that it will only last for a few months. Hopefully, my stomach is just taking longer to "wake up". There is a small chance that it may be permanent and have to revise to gastric bypass. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Please let me know. Thanks -Paige
  18. Thanks so much for the reply to my inquiry....I've been busy taking all those pre-approval tests the last couple of weeks and really kind of coming off the sites for a few days to allow myself time to sort through all the information I've gathered and of course keep it in prayer so that I make the BEST decision for myself in regards to IF I want to do the revision and IF so, what procedure am I comfortable with as well as the one I will be committed to afterwards in regards to my maintenance to ensure a healthy outcome! I will definitely check out the website mentioned and http://www.dssurgery.com/procedures/duodenal-switch.php?subnav=2 This is another avenue of knowledge thanks so much for sharing... Please keep me posted as to your journey... and if you don't mind please add me as a friend!

    My Good News!

Oh man Well if the stitches on your port gave way, I don't think you'd feel a difference up in your chest where your band is placed. The results from the x-ray were normal? How much of a fill do you have? By you saying you can eat less and less, I'm thinking you need an un-fill, but I'd assume your surgeon would have done this automatically when you told him that you were so uncomfortable. I'm sorry you're so miserable If I were you I'd also be looking into a revision. What good is weight loss if you're constantly in pain and miserable?
  20. You sound like you are doing great! I will have my revision in 9 days and I hope I come out of it as well as you! Congrats on your success!
  21. Congratulations. So glad to be able to read your post today. I'm 21 days post-revision and so far I'm doing well, losing, and not hungry all the time. Just concerned for long term success. Always glad to read success stories. Great motivation!

I've got to ask this ...

I'm going to be the devil's advocate on this one! The question you asked is a very good one - one that I wish I would've looked into a little more before having the surgery. I was told from the very beginning that the band is ONLY a tool - is does not work alone. It will restrict your portion sizes, providing you keep up with your fills. However, it is EXTREMELY easy to eat "junk food", "slider" foods, whether you're just right or too tight. I love, love, love sugar and salt, and everything that contains them. I have found that if you aren't willing/ready to make the changes in your head first - the band will not make a difference. I have been banded for 19 months and haven't lost nor gained a single pound. That being said, I do contribute my success as far as not gaining to the band - because without it, I truly believe I would be even heavier. However, I am very disappointed, disgusted, and frustrated - to say the very least. And, yes, I will be the first to admit that it is my fault. I didn't truly believe what I was told "the band is only a tool", "you have to work with the band, in order to make the band work with you". These things are most definitely true. Although I went thru the psych eval like everyone else - and passed it -- I was not ready to make the changes in my head, therefore, my success is suffering. It is also true that the band requires the most effort by you of any of the weight loss surgeries. I am by no means trying to discourage you from having the band - it is a wonderful tool and many have had great successes with it; I just want to let you know that THE BAND IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. As bad as I wanted to think it was for me, I now know that it was not. I'm actually considering revising to a bypass. Please think about your inner self while you make this decision. It is a decision that no one else can make for you - only you know your personality. I wish you the very best of luck on your journey.
