Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!
Lapbandster replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does anyone know, when chris says to eat 5 meals a day, can they be light snacks spaced out every 3 hours instead? (example: small light yogurt, light string cheese etc) Thanks in advance -
Caryn, I don't really like eggs that much but I have 1/4 c scrambled egg beaters and one Jimmy Dean turkey sausage patty for breakfast. I cook 4 patties in a non stick skillet to get them browned and reheat one a day till they are gone then do it again. When I want one I nuke it and it takes me less than 3 minutes to fix it since the sausages are already cooked. I put some 2% shredded cheddar in the eggs so I can tolerate them. The reason I like this breakfast is because it stays with me for hours and is 170 calories and 20 grams of protein. The bar and mini wheats are both carbs and go thru you quickly. That's why you get hungry faster. We are supposed to eat our protein first and then round out our meals with vegetables and carbs. My Dr wants me to eat at least 70 grams of protein a day. Protein stays with you the longest and you won't get as hungry. It's hard to get in that much some days but maybe you could take some deli meat, nuts and Greek yogurt with you for lunch. Apples, dry roasted almonds and one of the little mini Babel cheese rounds are good together. Lots of protein. Tuna fish has lots of good protein too. You can make it ahead also. Thanks goodness Halloween is over. My hubby and I stayed home. We usually go to the Fall Festival at church but I did not want the temptation of all that food I could not eat. I didn't buy any candy and turned off all the lights and pretended we were not home. Isn't that terrible? I am one really bad grandmother and neighbor. Everybody throw all that extra candy out or give it to your kids. Tell them to hide it from you. I remember hunting down my kids pumpkins when they were at school. I know none of you have done that have you? It called to me all day long so I understand where you all are coming from. Hang in there Stronagnoff. You can last another week. Only weigh in the mornings. If you weigh in the afternoon you have all you have had to eat and drink all day in there and you will weigh more. Nor a correct weight and it can be discouraging. Drink lots of water and don't stress. We can do this! Blessings, GG

 Day 9 post op Glad to hear you are getting about. Ii'm having difficulty with the walking and need to go earlier in the day. Today was upper 90's and way too hot. I had a scare yesterday. For some reason I felt ravenous yesterday night (around 11:30pm) and lightheaded and dizzy. So I had some yogurt and a protein drink. Today I feel much better. I have been able to keep down pureed soups, without straining them, but as you said, eating very slowy. I think I may have not been getting enough to eat. I wasn't told to count calories, only protein and carbs. But will count some today and see where I stand. I am so envious you can sleep in your bed. I can only manage about two hours still, then back to the recliner again. I had a dream of putting a Lean Cuisine Spaghetti tv dinner in the blender. I'm trying to figure out how to take a movie of the kitties snoring, if so will send it to ya. Thanks for your inspiration. -
Every surgeon is different. I am also on puree and I can have puree fruit and veggies as long as it isn't corn, celery or anything stringy. I can have puree chicken and tuna, mashed potatoes, puree eggs, vegetable juice, cottage cheese, milk, light Greek yogurt, puree soups, light margarine, light mayo or salad dressing, oatmeal, apple sauce, cream of wheat. Its a pretty big variety. Next appt is next Wednesday and hoping to progress to soft foods. Hope everyone is doing well.

071, Everyone is different for sure, but don't worry about the post-surgical pain. It should be a small bump in the long road ahead. Mine wasn't so bad. 3 wks out I still have a twinge or two, but nothing that is keeping me from doing anything. As for the protein, at first this will come in the form of drinks or shakes. I use Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate, 1 scoop, added to 1/2 c milk and some ice chips to make a shake. It's not bad at all. 2 a day gives you 50gms of protein, and then eating Greek 0% Fat yogurt a couple times, and your'e there. Protein will help you heal, and help you lose weight. Try and focus on the END RESULT, which will be worth the struggles at the beginning. You can do it!

March 2014 Sleevers
hisandhersleeves replied to kimpossible80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I usually have half a packet of weight watchers oatmeal for breakfast, cheese stick for 10:30 snack, yogurt for lunch, I sip on clear protein drink all day (200 calories, but it gives me 48 grams of protein), and dinner is harder... I've had a few pieces of rotisserie chicken, sometimes fish, but it's rarely more than a few bites of anything. -
Gaining instead of losing
Kindle replied to NatashaSaysRawr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since you can drink OK, make sure everything you drink contains protein. I could barely eat more than a couple tablespoons at a time for several months, but I still got in 60-80g protein starting day five via protein shakes, milk, and even thinned Greek Yogurt. And no, I didn't want to eat, either, but I forced myself to get proper nutrition. After all, the whole point of surgery was to be healthy. Like @@perforce suggested, it's easier to eat a couple tablespoons several times/day than it is to try and eat just 1 meal. -
Carol & Suzanne... yes, cinnamon does work to help regulate your blood sugar. I used to work at a spice company in Canada and our US head office has done a lot of research (medical research) and it seems pretty clear that cinnamon is really good in helping to regulate it. You don't need to take capsules, you get the same benefit from the actual ground cinnamon. I put a sprinkle in my coffee, on my cereal or yogurt. I use about 1/8 tsp a day and it certainly helps me. I'm diabetic, but have controlled my BS now for awhile... running & diet mostly, the the cinnamon helps! Ok... I haven't run since the weekend due to really poor nutrition. Even though I've switched to a liquid pennicillin, it is upsetting my stomach a lot. I'm not able to eat much without feeling sick, so have no energy to run at all. I have to take it until Sat morning, but hope to be able to run a bit before then. On the challenge front... KMF (not sure who that is in Nike+ world) has joined his/her runs in with Whosya, so now Whosya/KMF have overtaken us Hotties!!! Comeon ladies... we've got until Tuesday to kick his butt!!!

I promise it will get better. I was you at Christmas time. I was sleeved 12/14/15 and couldn't have solids yet. Made a full turkey dinner for my family but ate yogurt for Christmas dinner.! I actually enjoyed my Easter dinner today, in very very small portions. Next holiday you will too! It will be different, portions are smaller and sweets will probably be avoided. With 2 small children I have a house full of candy but with sleeve power I haven't ate it!

@@jersey_girl_86 ....I know EXACTLY how you feel....I felt like I was dying after surgery because I could take in soo little and I was soooo weak....GATORADE was and is my life blood... (obviously you want to be drinking mostly water but I needed electrolytes) talk to your DR about it but I'm telling you it helped me soooo much.....hope you are feeling better soon.....I was on protein shakes for 3 weeks post op and after that started with eggs yogurt mashed potatoes cottage cheese oatmeal and regular cheese...the more I diversified my diet the better I have felt...although I do HIGHLY recommend some type of stool softener/laxative etc once you start eating foods because I experienced a LOT of pain due to not being able to go to the bathroom...........anyways talk to your DR and see about Gatorade for electrolytes hope you are feeling better soon

What's normal eating post surgery ??
JerseyJules replied to comtngirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have the sleeve and am 6 to 7 months out. I can eat whatever I want just smaller portions. I tend NOT to eat lots of bread or sandwiches cause it fills you too fast and you can't get your protein requirements, and its a different full feeling, like a bad one. My main diet consists of Eggs, chicken, steak, chili, salmon, tuna steak, yogurts, cottage cheeses, nuts and salads...I have the occasional slice of pizza or 1/4 of a piece of sub sandwich, but processed coldcuts dont sit to well with me.. You basically have to see what you like to eat again and you will be eating smaller, human sized portions of it. Like now I can barely eat 2 eggs and 4 oz of Icelandic yogurt for breakfast, where my old self would eat 3 to 4 egg omelette with cheese, 2 slices of toast with PB&J and 4 slices of turkey bacon, and 3 cups of coffee and still be hungry an hour later.. The major difference is separating your liquids from solids and not drinking with your meals, you dont realize how used to it you have become. -

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
Soexcited replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! Wow it's hard to believe we have all been banded for SOOOOOOOO long now! I'd LOVE to get the sleeve. I have lost a lot of weight but not "all" of it. Unfortunately there is no way I would qualify to get the sleeve unless I paid for it all as my BMI is actually not that bad now! Go figure! Anyhoooooooo so that wont be happening. I would love to just to eat again, I get stuck on everything and I eat like a bird. My problem is that the bad foods that dont get stuck still are super high in calories and just zip right on through. Amylynns I drink my breakfast EVERY morning, my blender is my very best friend. I drink yogurt/protien/fruit smoothies for breakfast every day and I also do a lot of green juicing. I worry because I know I do not get all of the nutrition in I need every day, but the only way would be to take a bit out of my band and I dont want to do that because I am scared I will gain. Today I had a banana/mango/cherry & yogurt smoothie for breakfast and a stick of cheese and a few crackers for lunch. Id love to eat more right now, in fact I am hungry however I know one more bite and it will be too much and I'll wind up drowning in my phlem. Lovely eh? -
Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
linkybo replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ten weeks and down 40 pounds. Whoo hoo! I'm still eating a lot of soft protein - scrambled egg, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and a protein shake a day. Some chicken is okay but a lot of the time it feels so heavy it's not worth the risk. Calories range from 500 - 700/day and i've got a pedometer to make sure I take at least 5,000 steps a day. I know the goal is 10k, but some days are just lazier than others! Love to hear how we're all shrinking! -
I have 1 egg for breakfast or steel cut oatmeal, mornng snack is cheese stick with almonds or yogurt or Apple, lunch is fish chicken or lean cuisine afternoon snack similar to morning dinner is vegetables with some sort of meat sometimes a glass of hot tea about 5 bottles of water a day

Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
cmonk replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you tried Atkins bars? I like them but I understand and agree with the density. They have one that's a blueberry yogurt bar it's not dense and is really like a granola bar, very easy to eat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
CherieElise - I am with you. I had no real problems. The gas was okay but I sort of expected it and knew just to let it go. Luckily I had a single room. LOL. Once I was up and about I felt good. I am sore, like someone says the lower abdomen feels like over worked muscles. You are asleep so no telling what they do to you when asleep, jumping jacks or something. HEY THIS ISN"T A DRUM....In any event went back to work today. Glad I did as it was so mental I forgot to move. Truly. I talked to the dietician today because I was concerned that the liquid Protein drinks were not seeming to go anywhere and I thought I may have screwed something up. She laughed and said no the Protein Drinks are mostly liquid and they flow right thru (Duh) and she told me to put the protein into nonfat blecky yogurt which I did and added some sugar free pudding. Not bad. Won't make it an always and forever meal but hey what are our options. YOu just have to make the best of it. Once that decision is made you should know what you want and you will do whatever you need to do to achieve it. Surgery was not cheap, even with insurance and I have a lot riding on this. For my family, friends but most of all - FOR ME.......It was a journey from the day I decided to lose weight in late Dec and I lost 50 lbs until the two weeks of shakes and I lost another 10. I will not say I didn't put a bite of something in my mouth tho because I did. And it was all I needed. Which made me proud! In any event if your mind is not on the end result it will not succeed. I hope I don't have to eat my words in six months but I ahve a good team with me and as their test kitchen (I was the dr's first lapband in his own hospital) I feel I have to give them all the info and feedback I can so they can work with others. We all have to keep our chin (s) up and get fit and healthy together. I want to see all of us posting a year from now!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I was banded on August 31st. The incisions never hurt but the shoulder has been real sore! I did all to do for the gas, got it out, now I am thinking it is just that nerve. But, each day it does get better, but oh wow, it hurt. No sick at my stomach at all which is good. I am now on a protein shake for breakfast, soup and yogurt for lunch and the same for dinner. It is going fine. Pre-op appointment is this Friday. Take care everyone and congrats! -
2 weeks out. Who here has tried (and liked) refried beans?
tzbandtobypass replied to lovealways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our doc allows only 1 ounce of food per sitting. It doesn't sound like much, but it seems to be the right amount for me. I have been having refried Beans for about a week. It sounds gross but I have been taking the 1 ounce refried beans and mixing it with a small (think baby spoon) spoonful of cottage cheese. Once it heats up, it makes it a little cheesy and helps thin it out a little. I have really enjoyed it and despised cottage cheese pre-surgery. The beans have not made me sick, but I had trouble with eggs. I tried some scrambled egg beaters on Monday night and the doc thinks that is what caused the swelling that landed me back in the hospital on Tuesday (no stricture, just swelling). Another suggestion for you since it sounds like you're willing to try yogurt! I have been in love with Chobani 0% Greek Yogurt (1 ounce) mixed with a spoonful of PB2. Since it is nice and thick it almost tastes like I am eating a spoonful of really soft Peanut Butter. I've tried the one that is like Nutella and it is just as delicious. -

I found a different brand (it's organic and actually seemed "better" than PB2) at Vitamin Shoppe. The brand I bought is Just Great Stuff: http://www.bettylousinc.com/products_detail.php?id=287&ref=0 I bought a container of both the Peanut Butter and the chocolate peanut butter. They are both amazing and taste incredible mixed with the plain Greek Yogurt! I've also seen the PB2 on Amazon. -
I think I am going to call the doctor for an unfill. My fill was about 3 weeks ago. As of late, I am having trouble eating yogurt and even drinking fluid. It hurts in my chest and sometimes I hear this crazy gurgling sounds. I did okay for Thanksgiving dinner, but it has been down hill since then. I have not vomited, but the pressure everytime I eat soft foods or drink is driving me crazy. I plan to pick up my treadmill tomorrow if I am not at the doctor's office.
