A little food advice, please and thank you!

This is a very blessed problem to have, @Andrea72. I was craving things within 48 hours of getting back from the hospital. Also, it seems like you are on a particularly aggressive return plan to normal foods. At 4 weeks, I was still on no tougher consistency than scrambled eggs...i.e., late puree, early soft. If you need to stay above a certain calorie amount, I would just say slightly increase the portion sizes of the stuff you know are good to eat, like nonfat yogurt and lean protein...these things hopefully cause the nausea related to smell to be minimal. I think in your case your instincts will be far more useful than your nutritionist's advice, which frankly is the most likely thing to sabotage you. This is a gift...both the sleeve and your apparently changed taste buds. Don't let that get reversed!

    Pureed Foods

In my recovery, I was instructed to advance to soft foods after liquids and chewing 20-30 times, basically purée ing the food in your own mouth, to a baby food consistency. So foods that work well are low fat cottage cheese, low fat refried black beans, non fat low sugar yogurt, Siggi yogurt, strawberries, soft cheeses like Havarti, Oscar Meyer honey smoked deli turkey, Proti diet oatmeal, Progresso chicken Alfredo soup (chew the chicken well). Shrimp has been good for me, just make sure it's not over done and tough. Any meats should be cooked in a slow cooker to make them really tender, as well as the veggies. Good luck!

    Pureed Foods

My recovery did not include puréed foods because I was instructed to chew my soft foods 20-30 times to purée it in my mouth to a baby food consistency. That made transitioning to soft foods easy. Tolerable soft foods for me are low fat cottage cheese, low fat refried black beans, Progresso Chicken Alfredo soup (chew the chicken up well before swallowing), non fat Greek yogurt, Siggi yogurt, strawberries (chewed up well), soft cheeses like Havarti, Proti oatmeal, honey smoked turkey deli meat chewed well, and of course eggs. Take it slow with introducing new foods. Good luck!

  5. So tomorrow is my one month anniversary and I have the feeling it is getting worse. I had to go on a business trip yesterday and today. I took my regular breakfast and went to the airport. Once I arrived my colleagues insisted to go to the corporate canteen with me. I could not refuse since I have not seen some of the guys for a few months . Then there was the dilemma on what to eat. Choice was either lamb in a gravy sauce or some fish in a white sauce. Side dishes were steamed carrots and quinoa. I went for the fish, few carrots and the quinoa. I eat very little , was extremely careful with chewing, no drinking and so on. After a few bites of the fish I had a couple of carrots and one bite of quinoa. Then I started to have a hiccup that did hurt me a lot. I had to discreetly go to the bathroom where I threw up the entire lunch. I notice I had a lot of saliva with the food, evens kind of foam. That was weird. Sorry for the gross details but that worried me. As soon as the sleeve got empty all the discomfort was gone. Then in the evening I had to join them for drinks. And we went to a pub...with a nice selection of craft beers. They all tried different ones when I had an apple juice. After a few rounds (for them) they decided to go to a burger place ...And I went back to the hotel and bought a yogurt and some turkey ham (another bad idea) on the way. Same thing happened, plus a heartburn. I had to take my PPI to calm down. Today I had a yogurt, a protein drink I took with me, so unsweetened ice tea and a protein bar for lunch. No issues. I guess I can't go to restaurant yet. I am wondering what I am going to do next week as I am going on a business trip to India. I better bring everything I need. I am wondering how long it will be before I can have some kind of social life again.

Day 5 of pre-op and I miss food.

I am on day 4 and I'm feeling a lot better today than the first three days! I am at the doctors now waiting for my pre-op physical. May 2 is my surgery date, so I have two full weeks of this diet. Protein shake and cream of wheat for Breakfast, Protein Shake, 1 cup Soup, pudding for lunch, protein shake, 1 cup soup, Jello for dinner and yogurt for bedtime snack. Overall not so bad! April 6 surgeries

I had mine on April 5, so I'm 16 days out. I've been trying to transition to soft food but I'm still almost entirely Protein drinks, yogurt and cottage cheese. I tried scrambled eats and they ruined me for the day. I ate way too fast and too much. I was rushing out the door with the kids and had to turn around...it was horrible. But I did learn an important lesson about eating too fast and too much. I've eating a few pieces of stir fried chicken. Last night I had one little piece of stir fried beef. I've also had a few deli sliced of roasted chicken. I still have a bottleneck feeling going on when I eat and drink. But I feel great. No hunger problems and no cravings. How are you doing with food?
  8. Isopure zero carb clear Protein really helped me. About 3 weeks in my Protein shake disgusted me. My nutritionist suggested just drinking Fairlife milk (as long as you can tolerate some lactose, although Fairlife is low carb). I was also able to drink WonderSlim shakes, kefir, and shakes with Greek yogurt (full or partial fat). The yogurt really changed the taste Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any soft food ideas?

Smooshy scrambled eggs are those made with some milk. Greek yogurt (less than 5 g of sugar per serving like Dannon Light and Fit). A few spoonfuls of smashed potatoes (I like redskins and mash with the skins on for more potassium and vitamins) and I also use high protein Fairlife milk for the mashing, hummus, refried beans.
  11. That sounds perfectly normal. For me, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese were both allowed on my full liquid phase and they function like liquids. Being satisfied on 4 oz of Greek yogurt is great. That is what we want to happen. It's a great source of Protein, too.
  12. Yogurt especially Greek yogurt which is high protein and has 5g sugar or less per serving is one of the very BEST things that you can eat. I was allowed to have yogurt in "full liquids" stage, so to your tummy it is very similar to a liquid. Keep doing what you are doing.
  13. I've purchased gatorade, sf Jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles, yogurt and chicken broth. Hopefully Friday I will have time to go try some to get some premier Protein shakes. Any other suggestions? Thanks all Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
  14. @@jenmv So I am now in maintenance mode. I eat about 1000-1300 calories a day (closer to 1000 most days). I have really started to get it up to 1400 and want to be consistent with it. I workout 4-5 days a week doing pretty strenuous workouts, so I feel like I need to be upping my calories a bit. I still eat a lot of string cheese, light Greek yogurt, and beef Jerky. I eat a lot of veggies. I don't go overboard on carbs, but I don't watch them as closely as I did when I was trying to lose. I got my surgery done in Tijuana by Dr. Kelly. The surgery went well, but I felt like his bedside manner lacked as well as his follow up. Lastly, yes, right at 3 months my hair loss began. It sucks. I already have fine hair, but now that it's thinning, ugh. I wear a lot of pony tails.

    Pureed Foods

Hi. I was/am still struggling with the puréed diet. I've just discovered if you purée tin tuna (I was told not to eat it from the can as that's considered a "soft" food) and avocado together is yummy. Also roast chook, Mayo, avocado and a bit of sweet chilli sauce. That worked as well. Yogurt and any fruit with a splash of honey is a quick lunch meal. Hope that helps. 17. I am five days in to my ten day pre-op diet. My pre-op diet consists of three Protein shakes, five servings of fruit/veg, and an optional Protein Bar or lite Greek yogurt. I'm doing really well on the diet. 100% on plan. Days 1-3 were tough, but I'm not as hungry now. I am missing food though. Just the satisfaction I get from it, I guess. *sigh*. I know I can do this. 18. So I'm almost 2 weeks post op, and will be soon moving to the pureed stage of post op. I just bought some stuff to begin introducing pureed to my diet. I bought things like baby applesauce, baby carrots, baby meats, cottage cheese, yogurt, SF pudding to make with Cashew Milk. What did all of you eat during this stage? Any recipes to share? Looking for a bit more variety after being liquid for 4 weeks!!! Thanks.
  19. Relax. Yogurt isn't a "slider food", it's semiliquid. Once it gets into your sleeve, it empties very quickly. Different surgeons give different guidelines. Follow the instructions your surgeon gave you. Don't go looking on the internet for this kind of thing, you have instructions from YOUR surgeon for YOU. Many, many postop patients get frantic because they "feel no restriction" or similar while they're on the liquid stages. Then they advance to something more like real food and notice a big difference. Have some more liquid. Take a walk, or a nap. Stay off the internet if you have to to avoid worrying. You'll be fine. Really.
  20. 1/2 cup is normal at this stage. Yogurt does have nutritional values so not much of a slider food. It helps with your vitamins and protein intake and also counts toward your liquid intake.
  21. This shows 8oz of Greek yogurt in the "mushy" food stage (this is not from my surgeon's practice) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I'm a little worried that I'm 9 days post op and can already eat 4oz of Chobani. That seems like a lot. I was definitely full and satisfied when finished and couldn't have eaten more. Maybe I was able to eat that much because yogurt is like a slider food? No way I could eat 4oz of chicken, tuna, etc. It makes me worried that my sleeve is too big. Any experience with this? Favorite Greek Yogurt

I usually go with fage plain non-fat Greek yogurt. For flavor I'll either mix in some vanilla protein powder or a little Splenda and some fresh fruit. I also use it just plain as a substitute for sour cream. It's by far my favorite Greek yogurt in terms of versatility, flavor, and texture! [emoji1]
  24. I had the same issue. Every single thing I consumed, from soup, to water, to yogurt, made my stomach cramp and hurt. Didn't matter what I did to try to help it. Fortunately, my issues passed after a few months as well. Maybe 4 or 5. Now I can tolerate most things.
