  1. I'm 5 days out from my surgery. Everything went perfect during surgery. After surgery I struggled with severe pain, and continue to do so. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days and then begged to go home... I now regret that. I am weak, exhausted and in pain. The painkillers give me moments of peace but barely. I am struggling through drinking fluids, protein, and cream of wheat. Every swallow results in a sharp, almost unbearable pain that shoots through my chest. I walk a tiny bit and need to sit down. My headache is going on 3 straight days. I thought this entire process would be smooth and easy for me. I'm healthy with no co-morbidities, young, and not extremely overweight. This is something I thought about and committed to for 6 months, and it feels so disappointing now. I'm losing weight...12 pounds in the past 5 days, but I feel like complete crap. Please tell me it gets better! Am I doing something wrong? Suggestions?

    My VSG story

I too fought for 3 years for this surgery, even got as close as surgery day...only to be told I had to pay $9000 for anesthesia costs before surgery....needless to say, I felt defeated. My gynecologist is actually the one that started the fight for me this go round, he's such an angel, a man of true faith. Even prayed with me at our consults for wlsurgery...spoke with the head of the hospital and got the ball rolling... I was sleeved 4 months ago and have lost 96lbs. Dr. Alvarez-Perez is always gonna be my hero!!!
  3. All the above advice is good. My problem is I get full so fast. 2-3 ounces over 30 minutes and I'm done. I'm 2 months post RNY and still have problem getting all my protein and water requirements. I've had nausea since day 1 postop and am on meds. I'm told this will pass but it is frustrating.
  4. Hi numby2017, I am just a bit ahead of you at 5 weeks today. At 10 days I was able to get alot of liquids, Soup and yogurt in. I thought the surgery was a fail. Now on soft food, I feel a pressure, that's when I know to stop or the food will come up. I rarely can eat more than a couple ounces of food and liquids are even going down slowly now. Surgery was a complete success, although, I have wicked head hunger. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Help

I am 7 weeks post op and I got my first fill 1 week ago 3cc). I ate 10 wings and a small salad today I am full but I thought I would not be able to eat as much. I am really concerned because I am not sure if this band works or maybe I have stretched it out (if that's possible). I am currently 260lbs and I started at 280lbs. I have not once had an incident of sliming or PB like I hear others talk about. I can eat anything (bread, chicken, shrimp, steak, etc) I have no restrictions. Is this normal?

    Frustrated!

I totally understand I went 2 weeks with no loss then I started eating more and weight started coming off again. Don't worry!

    Forgot the basics

I am only 4 weeks out, and sometimes find myself forgetting I am sleeved and take too big of a bite, or forget to eat my snack. It's kinda weird sometimes.

    Shapewear/Binders

I wore a binder for about a week after surgery- it really helped keep me from moving in ways that would cause the incisions to hurt. I don't know if shapewear will help your body go back to where you want it. I bought some because some of my skin has gotten saggy as I've lost weight. I pretty much only wear it if I'm putting on something form-fitting. Krista

    Surgery tomorrow

They said they would fix the hiatal hernia while they were in there, but when I asked the surgeon after surgery she said there wasn't one. It had been 3 years since my endoscopy so maybe it had healed itself?

    Odd Woman Out At Work

Aw, you guys are awesome. Thank you for the support and advice. I've always felt uncomfortable in my skin, from the time I was a sz 6 in high school, to a sz 10 in college, to a sz 20/22 for most of my post-college career and now at the smallest I've ever been which is a sz 3/4. However, I do plan to transfer to another position because in addition to not meshing well with my team, there are some things I really don't like about the administration at my school. I think I was able to deal with the administration better when I had the support of my team. It's kind of like being a kid with really strict parents and going from having siblings to help you get through to being an only child.

  13. Glad you wrote about this. I had my band on August 14.I had my first fill today and it was a difficult procedure. they tried multiple times to with a two inch then three inch needle. I did have pain killer, lidacane which helped alot. We tried on my right side, on my back. Finally sitting up with my arm over my head worked best. My doctor says as I lose weight it will get easier. Yeah ! She also warned me I would be very bruised. I had 3cc put in today and will have another fill in 2 weeks. Liquids today, muschies tommorow and food on Wednesday. If they could not have gotten it I would have had to go to the hospital to have it done there. My nurse drew a map and put it into my files about where my port it located. Today I regretted every M&M and every chip I ever ate ! I am sure it will go better for you when you go in again. Carol
  14. I have found these wonderful little salsa bowls at the DollarTree. They are hot pink and very cute. (4/$1) They hold 3/4 cup exactly. I make my meals fit in there, and if I don't eat it all oh well. I have several other little bowls as well, and have bought the toddler plates too, but nothing beats my hot pink bowls!!

  16. Surgery just got delayed by 6+ weeks and It's no ones fault but my own. I was so excited, I just completed my last options calss through kaiser and was suppose to meet with the surgeon on Tuesday and schedule a surgery date. Well part of our options program with Kaiser required us to do blood work at weeks 3 and week 10. Part of the blood was was an h pylori test. Well stupid me did the blood work but forget to do the h pylori test (it's a stool test). Well when I went for my week 10 labs they reminded me. All my labs cleared but my h pylori test came back positive so now I have to do antibiotics for 10 days then wait 6 WEEKS before I can retake the h pylori screen. I am totally kicking myself because had I done the stupid test in week 3 like I was suppose to I could be done with the antibiotics and be getting scheduled for surgery next month like the rest of my class... This SUCKS!

    Purpose?

    1) I was wondering why you signed on to this site? Because I had just gotten the Lap Band and wanted to meet others like me. I also spent a lot of time reading the success stories. There weren't a lot who'd lost over 200 pounds but there some (like Floridays and Cazzy!) and they gave me the inspiration I needed to think I could do it too. 2) Why are you still here after a year? Because I've made some great friends here. Also because I see a lot of newcomers who are desperate for facts and information. Now that I'm one of the ones who've lost over 200 pounds, I hope that maybe I can give others the inspiration they need to know they can do it, too. I remember how overwhelming and daunting the task seemed and if I can help someone else to realize it's possible then I'm happy. 3) Why are you still here after five years? N/A 4) How many years have you been on this site? Since January 2012, so about 20 months.

    whats happening

OK, Everytime I eat ANYTHING It gets stuck in my chest until I burp it out. Its happens for the first 3 or 4 bites, then I can eat again slowy. But I feel like I'm spitting more food out than i'm able to eat. I'm on my 2nd fill. Has this happened to anyone else? Is something wrong with my band??? __________________

    Surgery October 9

Malvord...believe me when I say all those thoughts were in most of our minds. But remember why you took this path in the first place. Two weeks is one thing but, the rest of your life is another. i for one did well on new diets for about 3 weeks. Then I'd hit a plateau and go another week. If that scale didn't move I'd immediately quick and eat my way back to where I started and then some sometimes. I went the lapband route the first time around because I was afraid to cut into organs. It was a great tool but, in the end I had trouble with it and it had to come out...so after yet again gaining weight back I knew this is what I needed to do for myself, my health and my life. Believe me I had doubts a few weeks before, then again 3 days before...scared, worried but, at the same time excited. It's natural! Only you can decide if it's right for you though. Write the pros and cons of the surgery, do more research and search deep within you about whether this is for you. Good luck and thinking of you.
  20. I am 5 days away from surgery and have waited so long for this...but now i am second guessing myself. If i can do this two week pre op why cant i do this any time? Do i really want to give up all my favorite foods? Some of which i may never be able to eat again?
  21. I was banded back on 10/13/08 and my recovery was very smooth. I'm down a total of 45 pounds from my highest, but only about 33 since surgery. Everyone says that once you reach restriction, it is a whole different world and many find themselves losing weight more easily. Ummm....well why isn't this happening for ME!! I faithfully went every 4 weeks for small fills until I felt good restriction. I've had one small .3 cc unfill because I was a little too tight. So why o why am I still at the same friggen fraggin weight? I don't eat that much and have fairly good daily activity. I wasn't too pleased that it took me about 7 months to finally get restriction, but I kept thinking that things will change once I'm at my sweet spot. These are those frustrating times I honestly wish I had chosen the sleeve over the band. Thanks for listening to my rant :grouphug:

    The Lymphatic System

Inner Surfer Girl - I just bought the dry brush and face brush on Amazon. Love my Prime membership. I've read about the benefits of dry brushing before and I'm going to do it. I have dramatically cut down on sugar and I'm starting Yoga next week. Yoga is 1 night a week in addition to my 2 Zumba days. I haven't ever thought about a "rebounder" before but I might look into it. Excellent article - thanks for sharing.

    Green Coffee....

I don't believe any advertisements for stuff that says it burns fat. But I also watched this Dr Oz show a couple of weeka go and went ahead and bought some from Amazon. If I remember to take it I'm doing ok. Don't know if it's working or not. Haven't gained anything in the past week since my band has been emptied due to a slip. I was so afraid I'd gain a couple of lbs this next 2 weeks till it's filled again. Like I sai I don't usually believe anything that states that it burns fat, but I trust Dr Oz. So I thought I'd give it a shot. My husband is taking them too. I'll keep you updated on his progress. Marci

@@chycky Thank you for posting! I just got 3 bras, a pair of leggings and a cute top for $170
  25. I went for my preop appointment with my Dr. today. My surgery was scheduled for the 19th and according to my scale I had lost 8 lbs. According to their scale I had lost 1 lb.... REALLY!!! Now my surgery is pushed back a week in hopes that I can loose the weight. I fully understand the reasoning behind the weight loss and the need to reschedule. My frustration comes in that I have been following what I thought was an appropriate preop diet. The nuturitionist at the Dr's office moved out of state and they haven't replaced her yet. (it's been a month) I went through all my information I had received before she left and found nothing on what to do for a preop diet. My Dr. requires a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior. I've been looking at the information for right after surgery and following that. Protein shakes, low calorie soups without anything in them, and no calorie drinks. I'v been keeping my calories at 800-1000 per day. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thank you,
