  1. Honestly @@Pea523, my husband had it 9 years ago, and he's done really well. No complications whatsoever, and has pretty much kept the weight off. He actually wanted me to get the RNY, but I'm not the best vitamin taker, and that is something you MUST do with the byoass. Like I said, I'm basically happy with my decision for the sleeve, and the GERD has subsided some.

    3 months

Other than getting ill, causing me Lapband grief, I've very much enjoyed losing weight, and was at a good spot (I'm at a near complete unfill at the moment). I hope I can continue to lose while on restriction hiatus, and that I can get back to that good spot again within a reasonable time.

They do them often here too I just haven't been in awhile because I was losing good weight. Its slowed down a lot so I think it's time for another. I am so going to celebrate! I have been slowly buying newer sexier panties the smaller I get LOL! I love it. Not sure what I'll do but I am thinking of definitely rewarding myself somehow. Not the old way I use to reward myself. (Food!) Ohh maybe a sexy pair of boots!

All day seems harsh. My surgeon says no food for 4 hours no liquid for one prior to a fill. I'm hungry for you.. On the positive side it'll start your future weight loss off well. Have Soup... Sent from my GT-S5830 using LapBandTalk
  5. holy hell! I'm frustrated. I'm above my bounce weight of 130's for maintenance . It's not a good feeling. I'm getting things reigned in before they get out of hand. Some days I need to shut my inner voice off. I'm telling myself It's my new medication, My sports injury, I might as well eat this because I'm already at a higher weight. The scale is not moving. I'm pressing on! I'm tracking food and I have increased my workout for the last 5 days. Keeping up all the things I have been taught by my bariatric brothers, sisters and professionals. Waiting for the scale to move again.
  6. I’m one week out from surgery and my husband and best friend are making menhavwbsecond thoughts. They have no idea they both agree. My husband says I’ve had enough surgeries during my lifetime from car accidents and complications post car accident. I’ve also have a history of sepsis (infection) every time I get opens up for surgery. He know what I went through with all that.ni think he’s just afraid of what could happen or me not pulling through this time ans my friend said likewise. I really and and nee this surgery but now I feel like I’m second guessing myself. My initial plan was to have the sleev but the doctor takes me into duodenal switch because it’s less likely for weight gain. I agreed but also has second thoughts about that particular lad surgery just because of all the additional nutrients you malabsorption va the other surgeries. In my head I was also think duodenal would allow me to lose weight faster than the sleeve. Then again i don’t want to loose too much I don’t want to be looking too skinny from excessive weight lost from duodenal (CW 232 GW 150-160). Although not reversible the sleeve is less invasive and not switching around parts. Then again I’ve had a gastric ballon (obera ballon) and maybe lost 10 pound at most so that was also my reasoning for wanting duodenal switch more aggressive than sleeve as to me the obera balloonMimics restriction just like sleeve but it’s temporary. As you can see I’m a week out from surgery and all over the place. HELP!!! Has anyone that is slightly obese or obese who has extremely hard time losing weight even with diet or excercise had success from the sleeve? How fast did you lose weight?

    Band Dilation after 4 years

Reading this made me realize I might have had the same experience, but no pain or heartburn. I took a long "pause" as I call it and wasn't really sticking to my plan most of the winter. I did well during the holidays because I was seeing relatives and wanted to look great, but after the first of the year began eating what I wanted. Not in huge amounts but noticed I could eat a lot more of some things...bad things. I put on 12 lbs and then panic set in. My new clothes were tight! I'm happy to say that instinct set in and I went back to what I know works, like B-52 said and now I feel restriction again. Going back to basics worked and the weight I gained is off and boy do I feel good! I hope you feel better soon! Heartburn is not fun. I have a citrus acid sensitivity and it burns my esophagus. It is very uncomfortable. Hurts clear down to my diaphragm area, ugh! I really have to watch it, because citrus acid is in so many things!
  8. I find I lose more weight if I eat a sensible healthy diet and I like to include some fruit and a few nuts and seeds in my diet. They only way I can do this is to have it as Snacks and it hasn't slowed up my weight loss, quite the reverse as I have lost 70lbs since last August. If it works for you, then carry on as you are. As Jachut says, some people can't stop eating if they have a snack but for others it is part of your routine. Sue

    GLBT

No, but I'm a proud Pflag mom and I wish my youngest son would qualify for lapband surgery. Alas, his insurance won't cover it. My oldest son is also gay but he's into weightlifting and cannot relate to his Brother's weight problems. My oldest son and his partner find it very easy to lose weight and they feel my youngest shouldn't have any problem losing weight.

    Acne??

Has anyone else had breakouts during weight loss? I have never had a problem with my skin and all of a sudden I am having breakouts like crazy. I haven't changed anything, so the only thing I can figure is that it is related to hormone fluctuations.

    Tofu!?!?

Protein content in tofu: One half-cup serving of raw firm tofu contains 10.1 grams of protein. The recommended daily intake is 56 grams for most men and 46 for most women. A half-cup of tofu is approximately 4 oz by weight, or just under 1/3 of the average sized 14 oz package of tofu. By comparison, 1/2 cup dairy milk contains 5.1 grams of protein, one 3 oz egg contains 6 grams and 4 oz ground beef contains about 26 grams of protein. Tofu is an excellent source of vegetarian protein. Calories in tofu: One half-cup serving of raw firm tofu contains 94 calories. By comparison, 4 oz ground beef contains 331 calories, 1/2 cup of 2% milk has 60 calories and 4 oz of cheese packs 320 calories. http://vegetarian.about.com/od/healthnutrition/p/tofunutrition.htm Any recipe you have or find can be converted to using Tofu, it's a Great Protein alternative and if it calls for rice try Quinoa, it's healthier than rice. Problem is Society is all about eating meat When a plant based diet is much healthier in general.

    Rice?

Everyone is different. I was able to get to my goal weight eating rice. I ate it 3-4 times a week for dinner. I did not eat it alone, always as a side along with a protein (steak or chicken) and mushrooms, and peppers or veggies. It worked for me.

    Bans Fill

You are early in the process and it isnt unusual for people not to lose much weight if any and to still feeling hungry. Most people dont start to feel less hungry and more restricted till they have a few fills under their belt. You have already lost a good amount of weight so dont be impatient, the average should be 1 to 2 lbs weekly .. just keep doing what u are doing and u should be fine and dont be too disappointed if u dont feel much after the first fill, many people dont ...

    NSV, my favorite so far.

Be prepared ladies because it will continue to happen! Even at my age! LOL Since losing weight I have changed my hair and bought new, stylish glasses. Sometimes it can be overwhelming. But sometimes it's just cute. A few weeks ago as I was leaving my nephew's football game a very nice man (about my age) noticed that my shoe was untied and told me about it. I knew it was, but I was too tired from screaming and jumping up and down at the game to do anything about it. Well, I was approaching the stairs to the parking lot and the very nice guy says "I will tie your shoe for you, I wouldn't want you to trip on the stairs". And he bent down and tied my shoe! That was soooo sweet. I have to mention something else though, one of my neighbors outed another of my neighbors as having a crush on me. The poor guy (who parks next to my car in our car port) was so embarrassed, I didn't see him for 3 days (I usually see him everyday). But, when I did see him he had cleaned the area around my parking space and told me that he did it for me. I said "thank you" and he said "anything for you". Trust me folks I have ZERO interest in this guy. Add to that he is TEN years younger than me. I am a little uncomfortable when I run into him, but he has been very polite. Until recently I hadn't dated in 5 YEARS! Hope you are all enjoying your new lives!
  15. You're right on schedule to have the fear factor, because the dream is becoming real and we all have the fear that any dream may turn into a nightmare. If you're anything like me you have cried over what may happen and even feel a little guilty. I am a mother of 6, the oldest daughter 23 is married and have given me 2 of the cutest grandsons. When would she not need me? She is a new mother and has many questions on how to do things. My 19 year old son who is becoming an independent young man. Who would tell him how to prepare for the financial problems or his need for little extra cash? Who would tell my budding 11 year old girl what a wonderful person she is and what are cuties? What about my 4 year old son who has a speach disability, he has yet to say his own name and I want to hear it. Then there are my youngest twin girls. 3 years of life and wraped up into me. The truth is if your a mother there is NEVER an opertune time to die for you or for them. I took that knowledge and asked myself how did I want to live the rest of my life. As it was, My bmi was 32, just obese, however I have a heart murmur under illness. Bad knees ( I was a competitive skater as a child )and the extra weight would make them ache. I had a hysterectomy and could not stop the weight gain through exercise and a 1200 calorie diet. I was going to bed at 8 pm out of fatigue. Would my health get better if I would not get the surgery? No, The more weight I put on my heart the more dangerous the surgery, the more weight I put on my knees the harder it would be for me to walk post surgery. In 20 years time if I hadn't had vsg I would be just like my family members who wake up to watch tv until bed time ( If my heart held out ).I decided my children deserved better, I deserved better! I took strength from the pioneers. They came to a world with peril because it gave them and their offspring a chance of a better life. I wanted a better life for me and my family. Although I would not have to go any where near the trama our pioneers did. I had a thought of using the braveory they might have had, to have my surgery. My Dr. can't find my murmur now and it's only been a few months. I have so much energy and I don't even want to go to bed until 11pm and I don't remember when my knees last ached. I can now give my youngest the same play time my oldest had. I'm so glad I had this surgery and I didn't let my fears stop me.

Do YOU Do Da BLOG Thingie?

Hi everyone: Yeah I think blogging is yet another GREAT way to socialize and network with other people who've either had the surgery or are considering it. I tailor the content of my blog around those who are considering it by giving them a wealth of information they might not otherwise think of digging up themselves. Add video to it and it's content which the subscriber can take with them as I always link to iPod/Quicktime compatible MP4 videos which I upload to BlipTV (The YouTube Channel is a seperate link, yet YouTube has a HUGE and influencial weight loss community on there - More so than parent company Google realizes). My blogs and their posts aren't all in text nor are they all in video. In fact, some posts are in audio using my iRiver. It all simply depends on what I have. That said though, the one thing I'd like to do is put my weigh-in on video (So far, I've only been able to get as far as using still photos captured by the camera from my phone). I tried it once, but the cheapo $100 cam from Radio Shack wouldn't work. Well anyway, I figured I'd start this thread notso we can pimp our blogs, but rather so we can share each other's journey just that much further. Cheers

Do YOU Do Da BLOG Thingie?

Nah, I'm too busy and I cant be bothered. I also tend to approach weight loss as black and white. Eat less, move more and stop acting like a fatty boombah. There's not much to blog about in the face of an attitude like that. I dont sit around navel gazing and analysing my motivations etc. I'm not against it, its just not the way I approach things. So my blog would be very short. It would just be "good day, ran for an hour, ate well' or "ate a packet of choc chip Cookies today, must do better tomorrow". And I would probably vent about all the people who annoy me because they're not as decisive as I am, lol, and offend half the planet.

    8 Months OUt

Can you guys believe i just found out about this site???? At first I lost 30 pounds on the liquids and now I gained all that back... I got so upset that I stopped seeing the Dr that banded me :heh:. I hurt just about everytime I eat :sick:wacko:...and some things like beef I can't handle at all...This band has been living hell for me ... I was told that I was severly depressed before the band and at first they weren't going to do it then they sent me to a shrink and she gave them the ok to do it and she had only talked to me about 10 mins ....Now I am Depressed.... I have that feeling of something being stuck and sometimes I trow up a lot that I eat...then there are times I can eat anything :hungry:... This whole thing flips me out....
  19. Yeh, that's what I thought. It just seems like the doctor wants to sell another weight loss program afterwards for a weekly meeting and to see a nutritionist but when I looked at other Dr.s they either say follow ups are free or their post op meetings are free.... Tommyd, Did UHC cover your tests (xray, ekg) before hand and physch eval and seeing nutritionist? Did they cover follow ups and any supplements after?

Is my nutritionist keeping me fat?

I believe by your post, you are male? You'll need more than the 1000 calories a day that we women need. I think going to a nutritionist who specializes in bariatrics is a great idea. I believe obese and formerly obese people don't use calories the way a person who has been normal weight their entire life does.
  22. Hi all, have posted before on this topic, I am feeling good and are in best shape I can remember. Was banded May 1st 2009, down from 300/lbs. today 248/lbs. So 52/lbs. lost. Have been working out 3 to 5 times per week since October. (Burn 400 - 600 Calories per workout) My weight has been virtually the same since Dec up and down between 248 to 254. Good news is a suit I purchase Dec is now big but scale is the same. Since banding shirt size from 2x to xl-large, Waist 44-46 now 38) In addition to trainer have working with a nutritionst who has been increasing my calories. She wants me to eat at least 1800 a day. Granted I am eating more and weight is stable but I really want to loose at least another 30 lbs or so. I keep a food journal etc. Since last week the scale has started to move, I droped my calories to around 1300, very well balance, also cut down on artifical sweetners, and also protien drinks etc. She looked over my food journal today and said I really need to eat at leat 1700 to 1800 and be very consistant. She said to eat. 200 grams Protien etc. and put the protien drinks back in. So really not sure what to do. Made an appoitment with a the Nutritionist I went to as part of the lapband. Last time I had a fill they said to decrease the carbs, i am now eating about 150 grams a day. But I really fell bad when I cut them too low espically when I work out. On Monday I had some meetings so did not eat before my work out and really felt bad. Today food, which I increased per her advice was as follows, Breakfast, Egg on Pepperidge farm deli flat. Snack: Mellon Lunch: Eggbeaters, Deli Flat, swiss cheese Snack: Protien bar and shake Dinner: chicken / Bison , salad Snack: Protien Shake, 1tbs peanutbutter Total: 1735 Calories, 149 Protien, 48 Fat, 173 Carb, 34 Fiber. Would love to have any help. Thanks

    Feeling vulnerable....

Once you have your official weigh-in for submission to insurance for approval it doesn"t matter if you lose or gain, so just relax and quit worrying about it. be ready for whatever preop diet your doctor requires when the time comes. Stressing yourself out will only make the waiting worse. I know how you feel. I have been working toward this for 18 months and have experienced every emotion possible. Now that my surgery is set and I have started on the preop diet, I am feeling less stressed and more ready to move forward! Good luck to you! It will happen for you.

    Will we lose our laughter?

Well, just thought I'd check in and see how the thread was moving along... nice to see the feedback! It sounds like we handle our insecurities in different ways... for me, I'm with Dianechef, Susan and Puddinpie. I am always the center of attention around my friends and family. I keep the party going with laughs --- almost compulsively! Maybe this is just an insecurity creeping out to draw attention to something besides my weight - who knows! I do like the Jammin & Losin theory of once a sense of humor, always a sense of humor. I also like the note that the humor will only get better. I hope so! Although this may be a defense mechanism - I don't want it to ever stop! It makes my life entertaining.... there's usually something to find humor in - even in the worst circumstances and that makes me happy. Dianechef's story gives me chills! I would miss the joking around if it was to stop or if my friends and family were to treat me any differently. For those of you who have been hiding that personality and now it is starting to creep out with your new weight loss - I'm so happy for you! I don't think there's anything in life much better than that! Kim

4cc BANDERS, WHERE'S YOUR SWEET SPOT???

I don't think that I'll have the most common situation, but I'm at 4cc in my 4cc band and I finally get what everyone who has good restriction is talking about! I can eat about 1/2 cup of food at a time, and combined with my exercise, it really got the weight loss rollling. Before this, I felt some good restriction at 2.7cc, which was the total amt. after my 2nd fill, and that was good for about 15lbs. But, that restriction faded a bit after a few weeks and I was stuck a 1 cup of food eating again, struggling to lose. I've searched the posts on this issue and I've found a couple of people who are like me and have needed the significant fill, but by the same token there are plenty that have lost consistently with much less! Good luck and try to be patient and hopeful during this time of "bandster hell."
