    Spinning classes

I just wanted to share my love for spinning classes and see if anyone else here is also a fan?! I was sleeved on November 19th 2012 and just recently got my fitness and exercise regimen going! I go to spinning classes about 3 times a week at the gym I joined and I LOVE THEM. I come out exhausted, drenched in sweat, and feeling SO ACCOMPLISHED! I love the music and the fun during the classes, we even have special days when a live DJ spins music during classes! I've lost about 70 pounds since I started my pre-op diet November 4th, 2012. Highest weight was 296 and current weight 226. Goal weight- 150, I'm hoping spinning helps me meet that goal!!!!

    Salad?

I think they're most worried about digesting raw fruits and vegetables, especially things that are stringy or things that have seeds or skins. I've had some raw fruits and vegetables in moderation: sliced apples, side salads, veggies on sandwiches, etc, and I'm less than three months out. Just start off slow so you can learn what you can and can't tolerate, and don't eat too much in one sitting. Good luck.
  4. Now you sound like me...I'm the only one who gets to play the failing card!! LOL You'll hear from all the experts that you are OK..thank God we have a great bunch here cause if not for them I'd be face first in a tub of BBQ 2 weeks ago!! I'm being educated by the awesome folks here on how to eat..I'm so nutrition stupid it ain't funny...but they are all helping me ...I eat 5 bites of whatever I'm eating and I stop I have the fear of hurling so I don't push it if I'm still feeling hungry I have Popsicles Let us know what the doc says...congrats on the smoking!!! Will be thinking of you!

    Zaggora Hot Pants

I peeled mine off about 2 - 3 weeks in and I did get some scab with it, it didn't hurt though. I put normal bandages on and they were fine. My pants took 3 weeks I think. They are shipped from Britain so that is why they take so long. I read somewhere it is actually boat shipping.

LBT IS SO ADDICTIVE!!!!! I love you guys!

Ditto! I joined a couple of other forums before I found LBT - just never felt like I could fit in. They were stricter about what could be posted and were really hard to navigate around. After finding this place, I've maybe checked the other boards three times. Such a great vast group of people here

    Hello Evereyone,

I am on a full liquid diet this week...so mostly blenderized soup, thinned out yogurt, thinned out oatmeal.....sfpudding, sf jello. Next week I will be on pureed foods. How about you? Have you started any exercise yet?
  8. WOW - i read that and thought you must be going to the same one i am here in MO. I called my insurance at the beginning of last week and they said I was approved and have sent two letters to dr stating that- but girl at the office says they havn't gotten anything and can not schedule my surgery till she gets the papers- OMGoodness! I am going crazy- My insurance says they have sent it twice now- very frustrating to know that the only thing that is keeping you from having surgery is some one who does not know how to do their job- plus- like you the office I go to most ly does lap band- and even tho on everything I wrote I wanted the sleeve done- she turned it in to insurance over a month ago- but come to find out- for the BAND not the sleeve- so she had to resubmit everything the beginning of March and now I am approved but can't get her to schedule the surgery - and to think if she actually knew how to do her job I could have been sleeved over a month ago!! - UGH!!!! I so understand your frustration!

    Question about fills

Most surgeons would NOT fill you. From your post I would gather this information: You are not hungry You are satisfied with what you eat You are losing weight If those three things above were all NOT happening, that's when you need a fill. I am over three months out and have not been filled yet.
  11. sounds very familiar, which Surgeon do you have, if you dont mind me asking..just curious if it is the same one or if they are all the same. I would send a fax and call and leave messages to find out if they got it, b/c the first fax sat on their desk for two weeks..ugh

    Looking to start a website

WooHOOOOOOO!! I think it's awesome. Everything I need I can find somewhere in the threads here, but my poor family has been neglected (yes, I will admit it, too much Barney and Sesame Street this past week, and the laundry is piling) because I am sucked into my computer looking for info, getting distracted, having a ball, making friends, all the great stuff about LBT, it would be nice to have a comprehensive non-paid resource with all the links. I am NOT a computer geek but I'm a pretty good communicator, speller, editor type and I am currently researching myself so I could give you my perspective, if it helps. Yay! You are cool.

    Looking to start a website

the more I get with the site I will be looking for more help. i've started the design and am setting up the general layout of the pages so that its all set to go to add info. my husband and I spoke tonight and he plans to make a database where those who have been banded can take a survey and that information will be shown in charts and easy to follow info. an example would be After one week how much did you loose (week2,3,4,5,6, etc) the results would show a graph or chart representing how much average weight loss per week. another example when did you move onto solid foods week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. coming up with these questions are gonna be the hardest for me since there is no real place to find such info. any suggestions would be great. once i get it into motion i will of course need a lot of people willing to take the survey and share the experience. on the survey would also be questions.. like this.. but each question would have max # of chars so that they were short answers explain what this surgery has done for you and your life would you recommend this surgery to a friend, if so why? whats one thing you wish you would have know but didnt? etc.... anyone who wants to help me come up with things to include on a survey would be much appreciated.. you can email me katie@Griffonco.com or post it.. either way =)

    Hospital Group prices

I am slightly annoyed to see that I paid £6250 under a special offer, and that the same company is now advertising the gastric band at £5950. If I had just waited a couple of weeks, I would have saved £300.

When Is A Slip Not A Slip?

How do you know if your band has slip, my band revived 4-24-2012. And at time of operation the doc put 2cc in the band , as of today sept 10,2012 I still havnt recived a fill, my deal is that up unroll about a week and a half ago, I had a hard time eating bread or chicken if to dry , I would get plugged up , then all the sudden a week and a half ago , I could eat breads , dry chicken , I can eat anything , I was wondering if my band might of slipped? Or is it that it's lose now and I need a fill? Oh and I got app in nov 30,2012 to talk about a fill but , doesn't sound to promising , that would make it 7 mo. Sense my operation with no fill, I'm confused as can a band stretch and become lose that's why the fills? Or could it be that my band really did slip?

When Is A Slip Not A Slip?

There are three classifications of slips: (a) Pouch dilation above the band. This happens when people eat too fast on a chronic basis. This leads to reflux and heartburn, as do all of the slips ( Pouch dilation with slip. The pouch dilates, as it dilates it pulls up stomach above the band. This is the most common type of slip that we deal with © Pure slip. Easiest surgically to deal with- happens when something gets stuck and people try to force it out. Slips are a complicated topic - and they are best avoided by (a) Not having the band too tight ( not eating too fast food goes through the band quickly- or we hope quickly. If it stays above the band for too long it can cause problems. We have more on our site at azlapband.com/blog -- hope you find the information helpful there.
  17. I got my first (and only) fill at the six week follow-up appointment. My first few days were on Clear Liquids, then I progressed to full liquids for the remainder of the first three weeks. I was then on mushies and slowly progressing to solid foods on week 5. On solids and doing well by the end of week six. All doctors are different though. Your nutritionist and/or doctor should be able to let you know ahead of time what you can expect.
  18. Is the first fill usually 6 weeks after the surgery? I assume that this is for the healing process. Is it all liquid up to that point?:nervous
  19. my first fill could have been as soon as 6 weeks post op, however, I was losing weight fine and didn't have a fill until 12 weeks. Even after that fill I had little restriction and kept losing weight. I had my second fill in November, had a bit more restriction and my last fill was in January and I think I have enough restriction.... could I use more, sure, however I'd rather be comfortable and losing slowly rather than PBing all the time and losing fast.
  20. I kept thinking that too I didnt have to do a liquid only diet i had to do a low carb high Protein diet and I was really hungry on that, so i cant imagine doing all liquids. Although I do have to do 6 days liquids post fills, something i would NEVER Think i could do . I was VERY Worried about my liver and i cheated twice in 2 weeks. nothing major just one meal . So 48 hours before surgery i went on all liquids instead of 24 hours. My doc said my liver was fine. It does get easier and I agree with Happy Camper, mix it up with something else , if you can have Soups do that, soup for some reason makes me feel more like im "eating food" Mindy
  21. Hi banders, I have been reading post for weeks now and I have been thoroughly enjoying all of the information and insight about banding. I have had all of my appointments. I am just waiting for my primary insurance to deny me then my secondary will approve it.

Calories, diabetes, and a clueless doc

I think you are correct re the diabetes information. I would guess your numbers may increase some as you have some carbs once you are months out but I would guess not to the point of going back on meds. I was at 300-400 calories the first month and worked up to 500-600 and stayed at that level until month 6. Then I was only 10 pounds form my goal and worried about losing too quickly (I know that sounds insane right!!) so I purposely increased calories about 100/week to hit around 1000. I worked up towards 1200-1400 around the 10 month mark and now at almost 2 years am around 1500/1600 to maintain. Honestly that seems a little high compared to what others on here say but it keeps me at my comfortable weight. According to the BMi chart I could lose another 10 pounds but I feel like it would make me look too thin and bony ( also crazy to think that would ever be a thought re. my body). If I see my weight trending up 2-3 then I set a goal of 1200 (but usually log around 1300-1400) and that will get me down those 2 pounds within 1-2 weeks. I do think that wont be as easy in another 6-12 months as I am out of the honeymoon phase so I keep logging food/calories religiously. If I see I am low on protein its just a matter of fact thinking ok go get a piece of cheese or drink a glass of milk vs old me would get crackers or chips at the end of the day.
  23. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post-op and a follow-up with the bariatric team. Purees are coming! Today I saw my GP about my glucose and BP. She confirmed no more diabetes meds (YAY!!!!!) but then she said something odd. She noted that my numbers are excellent on this full liquid diet, but we'd see how I do when my diet "progresses." Now, she's young and clearly still developing her bedside manner (she's awkward) but she insinuated that my diabetes would probably come back and I'd have to go back on meds once I'm on solid food. I guess I thought most docs (even GPs) would know that bariatric surgery has a high likelihood of "curing" diabetes immediately post-op, especially as our weight goes down. Mine was mild to begin with and almost controlled through diet alone. I kinda feel like she threw a bucket of cold water on me. (Getting rid of diabetes was one of my top reasons for surgery.) ANYWAY, I told her I'm consuming about 400-ish calories per day on the FL diet. And I know (I KNOW, I KNOW) we're supposed to concentrate on water and protein at this point, but I'm curious what everyone else's average per day is. Eventually I think we top out around 600-800 with 1,000-1,200 max, but anyone else willing to share where they are in the beginning stages?
