Submitted to Blue Shield of California!

PPO doesn't go through a medical group, so Blue Shield will look at your request directly. As long as you meed revision criteria, you should be good! -
Submitted to Blue Shield of California!
SusanB55 replied to lolarose13's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi there, my husband and I have BCBS Fed and we were both approved. Hubby had bmi at 38 with diabetes and other comorbidities and I had bmi of 38 with only sleep apnea. Hubby is a newbie....but i, like you, was a revision. The band was problematic for 10 years but finally decided to jump thru all the hoops. We actually switched from another insurance during open season because the insurance gal in the office said bcbs was the best for approvals of bariatric. Good luck! -
Lap band to revision denied!
NewMeBefore40 replied to lace131's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was denied a really revision due to lack of 6 Month diet so I just had it removed. I couldn't take another day like that. Now I'm working toward getting sleeved. However our insurance changed in Jan and no one can give me a straight answer as to whether bariatric is covered. -
The band works for some and not others. If you are experiencing issues then you need to see your surgeon and they will perform an EGD. The band will more than likely have to be removed. Some surgeons will remove the band and perform the revision in the same surgery. Others may make you wait. It just depends. Don't beat yourself up. Many people have been revised from the band. Good luck with everything!

Sleeve to Bypass
iagree2shine replied to Time4Kindness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on a fast track to sleeve to bypass revision. My sleeve was wonderful lost 75lbs but ended up getting pregnant. The only reason the changing is due to a hiatal hernia and my severe GERD. I love everything my sleeve did for myself. I am nervous about changing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone morbidly obese and considering the gastric sleeve?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Kwilliams03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the Dr. My Dr only does the sleeve, no bypass. If you are young and active, you can lose a lot with the sleeve which is almost word for word what my doctor told me. He said they save the Bypass for older people who aren't going to be as active. I picked the sleeve because I felt it was the least invasive and traumatic. The lapband requires a foreign object in your body and constant Dr visits. Drs like the lapband because it is constant lifetime residual income for them. I am sure they can put a kid through college just on fills, or maybe get a nice boat. The Bypass involves touching the intestines. There are just too many things that can go wrong with that, and I wasn't willing to take the risk. I also didn't want to deal with a lifetime of malabsorption. It makes it too hard to take oral medications and keep your Vitamins up. I felt the sleeve was the perfect middle ground. I also knew if I really failed with the sleeve down the road, that I could always added the DS option (even though I probably wouldn't because of touching the intestines), but that option is there. The sleeve is safer for larger patients because it is faster than bypass. That is why on really large people they do the sleeve first with the option to revise to something else later. You don't have to let a Doctor pick your surgery for you. I went to a Dr that only did the sleeve, because I only wanted the sleeve. I had no interest in the Bypass. If you want a sleeve, then tell them you want a sleeve, if they won't do a sleeve find another Doctor. You have to live in your body, not the Doctor. They dice you up once and they are off to the next surgery. -
Hi ya'll. So excited to have found this forum. A little about me and my love/hate relationship with this band that will soon be done! Sorry if this is long! I got my band in Dec 2010. Starting weight was 300 lbs. Got down to 230 and got pregnant with my first son, yay! Lap band doctor wanted to remove all my fill from the band during pregnancy. So during those 9 months, I gained all 70 lbs back. Lost 70 lbs again and what do you know, pregnant with my second son! Seems I found my fertile weight This time, I did not go to band dr. Just my OB and we agreed that as long as baby was healthy and growing, I'm leaving my fill. I only gained 12 lbs that time around. So here I am, down to 215, but going from 242 to 215 took 18 months. I was too embarrassed to go to dr sooner about another fill becuase it's taken me this long to drop weight. I finally went in and was sent for upper GI. My band has slipped and I have a hernia. I'm going for the sleeve revision. I'm getting some negative feed back, mainly just from my mom as I'm keeping this very private. I think some of the nagativity is jealousy becuase she's over weight but won't do surgery. I've been overweight my whole life, I don't know what it's like to be comfortable in my own skin. I think I deserve this. I have a chance, for almost no cost on my end to live a healthy life, I'm taking it. I should have done this year's ago. The only thing the band has given me, is a horrible relationship with good. Possibly border line eating disorder. I can't believe that in the future, I for sure, will be in the 100's. I never even thought I would get anywhere below 180, but this is a real possibility now and I'm excited to be on this journey with ya'll. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Mine is June 22nd. Up until last week I was set on the sleeve but due to my EGD it may be changed to bypass. I have my pre-op Thursday and will make a decision then. Trying to avoid getting the sleeve and then having to have a revision due to acid reflux later. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had band to bypass revision on 3/28. I had my band removed on 12/17 due to complications. I had no problem getting approved, just had to stay above BMI requirements, which wasn't a problem around the holidays, lol. Good luck! Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

I paid for my band in the Dominican Republic because my BMI requirements not met. (Not high enough). My insurance covered the entire revision here in the states. I was amazed. No issues getting it approved either! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had band to bypass revision on April 26th. Lost around 80 lbs with the band and all of a sudden couldn't get it right. It was either too tight to eat or too loose to help. Felt like I was throwing up and choking for 10 years, terrible reflux too. Gained back all the weight. Felt sick and miserable. My Dr suggested the revision. I'm almost 3 weeks out, I feel really good, way better than I expected. I was up and walking around the same day and out of the hospital in 2. I started eating and it's amazing...I keep waiting for the tightness and the restriction from the band but it's totally different. No choking or feeling like you can't swallow, you just feel full. It's still new but I have hope and I'm excited. Lost around 30 lbs in the last 26 day including the 10 days of liquids before. You should definitely consider it. Good luck with whatever you choose! bamagurl replied to beesam's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was just approved for a revision to a sleeve and my current BMI is 31. Of course, every patient and insurance is different. I have now had 2 slips, each a year apart, and my surgery is scheduled for 2 June. Wishing you the best of luck. -

Hello, does anyone know it Aenta pays for revision surgery and if so, do you have to complete the entire process again, as if you were having the surgery for the 1st time? -
Doctor Discouraged Lap Band Procedure
Read2016 replied to marg294ever's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
At my seminar, the surgeon also discouraged the band. He said one of them are being taken off the market. At the time of the seminar, 2 weeks ago he said he is taking bands out and revising them to the sleeve. As far as the blood thinner, I think you would have to stop them before any surgical procedure. Hey there. I'm a newbie too but had a revision. I had the band for 6 years and it broke. Horrible news to hear! My doctor said no worries he would remove and create a sleeve. Less than 2 months later it happened and I'm a little over 3 weeks out. I feel FANTASTIC. Why did I not do sleeve before? The procedure itself wasn't too bad. I had quite a bit of scar tissue around the port and as a result have a smaller sleeve. Fine with me!!! Recovery was no issues. In Wednesday, out Thursday, on my feet back to normal (errands, dog park, gardening) by next week. I know what is like to have a bad band... I referred to mine as "space junk"'once I found out it was floating around in me, inoperable. I would encourage you to go talk to your doctor and see what they say. You have come this far and I truly believe the second time is the charm. Best of luck let me know if you have any questions. There are amazing people on this website that are super generous with their experience and knowledge. I'm so glad I found it!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello!! I am brand new to this forum. I was banded 5 and half years ago, lost over 100 pounds and then boom.....no longer tolerated band fills, severe gerd, vomiting. I have gained 71 pounds of the 100 I lost back. I have also developed a hernia I am so upset and defeated right now. Is it worth trying for the revision surgery? Are complications enough for them to pay? Any feedback or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Sleeve to Bypass
wtiger17470 replied to Time4Kindness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a revision from sleeve to bypass. It is really easy to go back to bad habits. After a year of eating right and following the program I felt like the operation was all for nothing. Four years later and I'm finally having a revision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Anyone had sleeve then had to revise to bypass
stacyrg2 replied to Heidi.E's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Posts lie these drive me craaaazzzzyyyyy. Just because a person had VSG does not doom them to failure and choosing RNY does not mean you will successfully lose all your weight and keep it off. Both surgeries are nothing more than a TOOL. If you don't learn proper nutrition and develop good eating habits, you WILL NOT succeed. I lost more than 120lbs with my sleeve. I LOVE my sleeve and would give anything in the world to keep it. I'm not revising because I suddenly woke up and saw the light and realized I chose the wrong surgery. I'm revising because I need to to maintain esophageal health While RNY might be the right decision for you, it is not the right decision for everyone and I don't want anyone choosing between the two procedures to be swayed by your one "friend" who didn't succeed with the sleeve. From what you said, it's because she didn't develop good habits, not because the surgery failed her. I guess I'm just cranky today. I am a successful sleever and proud of it!! Are Your Family Members Overweight and Which of Them Supported You?
BelgianGuy replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My whole family is "in shape" except for... my mom (well she is now) and one of my two sisters. My mom had a lapband which went wrong and was revised to a gastric sleeve. She was thus quite supportive and was even the first one to talk to me about the gastric sleeve when she saw I was getting dangerously desesperate with myself and my health troubles. Everyone in my family was supportive of this decision, one of my grandpa wasn't too glad about it, but now he cheers when he sees how much I've lost. So all good! -
Learned a lesson - don't eat too fast!
mom2wils posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Learned a lesson today: if you eat too fast and subsequently a bit too much you will feel like dog crap. I got this overwhelming feeling of nausea, got really hot, felt faint, and my heart started beating really fast. Read some posts on here about what others have experienced and apparently that's not uncommon esp if you eat very quickly. I was starving and lunch tasted awesome. 1 week post revision band to sleeve and on full liquids. Easily getting in fluids. Not easily getting in Protein. And constipated as hell! (Started benefiber to help with that) Definitely difficult to relearn 20+ years of eating quickly (occupational hazard as a nurse - lunch is when you get it!). Next meal - new chance.
