    ANYONE GETTING SURGERY MAY 25TH????
  2. WOW THATS AWESOME I HAVE LOST 10 POUNDS SO FAR AND I HAVE 6 DAYS UNTIL SURGERY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR POSITIVE RESPONSE! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HONESTLY
  3. Okay so I’m pretty sure everyone has a stall between weeks 2-4. Mine happened at 12 days post surgery and lasted almost 3 weeks. So here’s how it went: I lost 22 pounds in the first 12 days, then I lost 1.8 pounds over the next 20 days. There were a couple of times in that 20 days where I gained a 0.5-1 pound, then lose it, then regain. After week 5, I started losing again at the rate of 2.5 pounds/week average and 10 days ago I hit my 3 month stall (I was sleeved on 2-6-19). This time I’ve put the scale away and refuse to step on it for at least another week or two. Oh and during these last 10 days when I’ve lost zero weight I’ve managed to fit into a pair of pants that were really tight on me at the end of April so I’m not panicking. The weight will continue to fall off and the scale will continue to move down accordingly

    Extreme Measures

Good job. I might add one other idea. Basically, insulin surges are what make our calories go into fat storage, That's what insulin does - drives the calories into storage (fat). When insulin gets real low, guess what? The liver tosses out glycogen for energy and after the glycogen is gone, the fat stores start being utilized. The key is to keep insulin levels low throughout the day. Every time you eat, there is going to be an insulin surge. Now protein will raise it a lot less than sugar or simple carbs. This is why fruit should be eaten AFTER the meal when protein is on board, And eating less frequently during the day results in less insulin surges, The worst thing you can do is snack throughout the day or follow the silly strategy of 6-10 small meals a day. All that does is keep your insulin up all day long. ***It's not really how much you eat, but WHAT you eat and WHEN you eat it.**** Eat healthy proteins and meals ONLY 3 times a day with NO snacking. This is the bare minimum. The next incredibly powerful strategy is eating those 3 meals all within a restricted time period which can be 12, 10, 8, or even 6 hours. This is called intermittant fasting and gives long periods of low insulin levels, resulting in fat breakdown and killing off the "zombie" cells which contribute to aging, fraily, and mental decline. It is quite amazing how eating the same food, but in restricted time, can melt off the last pounds. Several of my relatives have experienced this, and there is a ton of literature to back it up. IF is not something a lot of WLS patients can do right away because we are just trying to get in the bare requirements for the first several months, but it is a goal to shoot for down the road. I was doing 18/6 (18 hours fasting, 6 hours food) before surgery and it helped me a lot, but am back to 12/12 right now until I can eat a bit more with each meal. This is basic physiology of how our bodies work. A calorie is not a calorie. Our bodies do not respond to the same calories of olive oil as they do to sugar. It's all about insulin. Best of luck to you. Keep up the great exercise! Give IF a try and you might find it does the final trick for you.

    28 days post op

Brandy I had my sleeve on April 19 and I've lost the same as you. I hit a stall during week 2 and I havent moved from there. It's been 2 weeks and I was feeling confused myself. I'm on the same boat myself. Hopefully we get it moving soon. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. So I'm super stressed out I started my journey on May 2, 2019 and yes only 2 weeks ago (they don't play out here in the Bay Area, Kaiser gets you in and out within a couple months) and am only 4 pounds away from hitting my goal, once that happens I will get surgery date which I also know will be really quick. But I'm a smoker and have been for 30 years and although I'm not a heavy smoker (a pack in 3 to 4 days) I'm not ready to give up my only release. I've giving up drugs over 20 years ago and now food and I will have an Awkward relationship LOL. Smoking is the only thing that will relax my nerves so help all that did smoke or are smokers what did you do????? Thanks for your time and input in advance Michelle Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hey Kassandra, My name is Michelle and I'm 45 yrs old with 2 awesome sons and 2 totally amazing daughters. I've been fighting with obesity all my life and now that my lower back (L4 &L5) is completely shot and I have sleep apnea life has gotten more difficult. I'm the biggest I've ever been and am in total pain all day every day. People really try and tell me different ways to workout or go with them to their gym but they don't understand that the cartilage between the L4 &L5 is completely gone so that's bone on bone, and moving all this weight around is not the business. My sciatic nerve is always getting pinched between bone my right leg is always numb and the left is often numb as well and now I'm losing control of my bowls and often pee all over myself. I am also experiencing balancing issues and often catch myself B4 I fall. People look at me and thinks I'm a falling down drunk when I've giving up alchohol over 12 years ago. I then explain its nerve and spinal damage. I went to a 4 hour consultation on May 2, 2019 and I meet my surgeon on May 17 yesterday and he informed me that I have already lost 14 pounds and only need to lose 4 more pounds and they will schedule my surgery. I meet the nutritionist on Monday and believe I'll be 2 more pounds closer and hopefully they will go ahead and schedule my surgery. This is why I believe my surgery will be in June because in here in California and Kaiser has been doing them super quick. I have 3 friends that went from day 1 to surgery day in about 45 days to 60 day. I'm just so nervous about losing that extra 4 pounds and trying to keep it off till Dday. Anyways nice meeting you and will read others and praying for ea of us to be able to get surgery done in June so by Thanksgiving we will be able to eat more then a dinner roll LOL. I am getting the sleeve done. Praying for all our dreams to come true. (My dream is to not have to live in sheer and constant pain for the rest of my life) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Like you, I started years ago (2015), got to the end of process, and got denied by my insurance. I started in another district in January 2019 and immediately began the wls process when I found out I had coverage with my new insurance. Im scheduled for RNY either June 26 or July 2. I'm a 42 year old high school teacher, so I'll be spending my summer break recovering/ enjoying my new life.

    Hijacking a Group Session

I can’t go to my surgeons meeting. Chaotic is the only description that comes to mind. Typically, one person asks a question and 5-10 yell over each other to answer. Then when people get tired of waiting to ask their questions, people start asking questions at the same tome and there are people taking over each other in different parts of the room. The nutritionist that runs it doesn’t even try to reign it in. Two of the three I attended were dominated by the same person - the mother of a patient (first was before her surgery and second was after). Her daughter kept saying things like “mom, i already told you that”, but mom just kept on, saying things like “you’re my baby and you’ve put your life in danger and I need answers.” I was so stressed out by the chaos I felt sick to my stomach. I signed an agreement with my surgeon that I’d go for 3 months post-op, but I didn’t. Luckily he was ok with that since I have a therapist who specializes in Bariatrics.

    Weight

I lost 16 lbs the first month and I started at over 300 lbs. I've been hanging out on bariatric surgery boards for 5-6 years, and I'd say most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month (some more - some less - but I'd say most lose within that range). At 10 days out, you're still coming off those first few days when your weight would have been higher than you went in for surgery because of all the IV fluids they pumped into you... as long as you stick to your program, the weight will come off...

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Water kicked me out of my stall. I just wasn't drinking enough, I knew I wasn't but I had no taste for it. I wasn't getting a lot of liquids in period. So I downloaded the baritastic app and set a timer for every 10 mins between certain hours to drink and since then I have been on a steady losing streak. I went from getting 48 to 64 fluid ounces up to 96 to 120 per day and it was easy with the reminder to drink. Good luck with breaking the stall.

    Crying

You've had two 10's under the stress ratings, I am happy your husband is doing great, but you need to get help with the stress of the diagnosis. Maybe they have a support group you can go to. I'm sorry to hear about your dog, we too lost one last year and every time you lose a pet it is a hardship. I'm hoping that the longer you live with your husband's diagnosis it will become easier. You can cry it is ok, and you can be excited about the future at the same time. Good luck with your journey and keep us posted. I have one more visit then will start on the final journey. I am scared and excited at the same time. I've been down this road before with the band. I can tell you losing the weight is wonderful. Keep your eye on the prize. We are here to support you.

So I will have had whole body scanned! Hopefully they will pinpoint the problem soon. Thank you for all the encouragement. New_Me 2019
  17. Having been over 300 lbs the last 10 years I've always been the heaviest in a room. Now that I'm 284 I'm closing in on not holding that title. I'm going to a function in the next 3 weeks and some have not seen me since I've lost 54 lbs. I'm hoping for 60 by then🤞 I really dont want the attention or people to ask me about it. I'm just not sure how to handle it without bring rude.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Yes !! I have a lot of dental work that needs to be done. I have a dentist phobia after a horrible experience when I was 19. I finally made the appointment and went Wednesday to come up with the plan. It’s going to cost about three times as much as my first new car!!! But hubs and I came up with a plan how to pay for it last night . Procedures will begin May 30th . I could use all the prayers or good vibes or happy thoughts you all would like to send!

  20. I have PCOS and my dietitian advised me that the sleeve would help with it. I had my sleeve on May 7 2019 and have already lost 16lbs. PCOS is a physiological condition that makes it harder for you to lose weight so weight loss surgery will give you that support to get it off easier (according to weight loss dietitian). Best of luck on your journey.
  21. Got my sleeve done in april 30. 2019 I am starting to experience some GERD but i think it is due to me trying new foods. I am still in the liquid stage of my diet but i am fully happy with my sleeve. My surgeon took out 85% of my stomach, so i will have the most optimal weightloss. 22. I needed help. I'm 54 and dont work, but I needed help to cook and clean. I paid my daughter to cook, clean and she got all my pills ready. I was in a lot of pain and on a lot of narcotics for 10 days. I think it's all individual depending on what responsibilities you have. My husband is like my kid and works very long hours. So, I've always cooked. I would say if you don't have small children you might be ok to take care of yourself. In the first week I couldnt eat, so I just needed to rest and walk a bit to prevent blood clots. Wishing you all the best on your upcoming surgery!
