  1. I had vsg surgery February 2008. I had lost about 40lbs. I got pregnant 9 months after surgery, and then again when my son was 5 months old. I know have a 19 month old son, and a 5 month old daughter. They are wonderful and I love being a mom, but I have about 30 -40 lbs to go, and I can't seem to lose anymore. My ability to eat has increased tremendously, not quite to pre-op.! Anyone have any similar outcomes, several years later after having babies? Any solutions?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA.... no... sorry - that is not how it works... Protein and water will keep you full for about 10 minutes while you wait to sip the next sip. When on full liquids and even mushies - it is hard to get protein in that isn't a powder mixed drink. like all mixed drinks (and drinks in general) they go through your system (meaning stomach) fast - keeping you full... not likely. All of us are going through this together - not one individual ... obviously if we are all saying that we are hungry, then maybe, just maybe, the water and protein aren't doing it. You will reach that point too. When you do - I know you will understand then and will realize that protein water just doesn't cut it. Until then don't assume that what is working for you at 3 days post op will work for all of us who are 2, 3, and more weeks post op. Frankly, at 3 days post op - I thought I would only ever need to sip water for the rest of my life and be happy because I was very full... but now at almost 3 weeks out - I am eagerly waiting my fill because I want to feel full. So I will get off my soapbox with this last little bit - Congrats on your band and I will pray for you that water and protein water work for you. Me too... I am craving a ceasar salad with lots of romaine lettuce and fresh Parmesan cheese... ummmmm......add a crouton or two and I am in heaven.... Amy

    Back to the Board

We weigh about the same and seem to have the same issues right now. I have lost 10 pounds since surgery and have had one fill and have another scheduled. The last few days I have really tried getting alot more water in and I think I have lost some more weight. I only weigh once a week, but I feel alot better. I have also been using fit day and I usually eat about 1200 calories. So something has to work soon. Good luck with your struggles.

I am in banster *&%$ with you and I only got banded on 10/16 10 days ago!! At first I wasnt hungry, but I am starving all the time now. I ate a whole (mushy w/sour cream) baked potato...It made me sick to think I could eat that and be perfectly fine. I was at lunch and surrounded by people, so I didnt notice I had eaten it all unitl it was gone and then I was like omg I just ate the whole &*^% thing!! Then about 3 hours later I was hungry again:eek: WHAT AM I GONNA DO????
  5. Hi, I am planning on using Nutrisystem for my weight loss program. And when i called them, they said that LOTS of lap banders use their program. So, are any of you all out there using Nutrisystem? How is it working for you? I like it for the following reasons: 1. Right size portions, 2. Ready in a minute 3. Easy to grab and go to work., Eat in the car, or pack in my purse for emergencies. 4. Gycemic balance. 5. Variety of choices. 6. No calorie counting. 7 Desserts and snacks: Nutrisystem does not ignore between meal Snacks and desserts. 8. It is good every day food that I will eventually need to transistion to using in my every day life. 9. No cooking - It is hard to control portions and calories when you cook from scratch. 10. it is hard to cook low cal for one - and keep it tasty. Hubby wants no part of low calorie meals that taste low calorie. 11. Very time consuming to cook low calorie. I am busy. 12. No leftovers, so no guilt for wasting food. It seems like it will work, but I would like to hear from you if you are using/considering Nutrisystem.

    time between fills?

Thanks, everyone. It's funny how surgeons are so different with their approaches to the band. I had my first fill on 9/4 (4 ccs), then another on 9/18 (2.5 ccs), and my most recent on 10/2 (1 cc). My doctor didn't want to wait longer in between the fills because I've been so hungry. I'm hoping that this fill on Wednesday got me closer to where I need to be. Today is my first day back on solids after the fill. I hope to be satiated longer now. I have another appointment in 2 weeks, which will be the last appointment covered under my global surgery coverage. All appointments since my surgery in July have been covered 100%. I'll have to start paying my co-pay for the visits going forward. After the initial 3 months post-op, how often do you see your surgeon?

    Hello

Hi, I'm scheduled for August 26th! I started my journey back in October with 6mos of doctor supervised weightloss and weigh-ins. My highest weight was 291 and I'm currently at about 275. Im 26 and 5'5". Sooooo relieved to get my approval because insurance was making me jump through a ton of hoops and I just didn't think I was going to get approved. My surgeon was ready to do the surgery as early as next week but I just started a new job 3wks ago and my vacation time doesn't kick in until August, hence the delay. I'm only getting about 10 days off work so I'm hoping for a speedy and complication free recovery!! Good luck to all of us on this exciting new journey!

    Little success after a year

I understand. i lost 65 lbs the first 6 months . Then after my first fill last November I have not lost and actually gained almost 10 back. My dr I'd telling me its my fault. I'm not weighing measuring counting chewing. This sucks. I'm so discouraged. im not even motivated to figure out the problem.:-/

    Wine

This is a topic I'm glad to see, because it's something I wonder about. I enjoy a glass of wine (one!) with dinner most nights, if I stay up later, it may be two, maybe three at the outside (I have a non-drinking spouse to drive me home). I have a friend who is 10 months post GBP and she hasn't had any alcohol yet. I have another who is 2.5 years post sleeve and she waited about three months. I don't have a surgery date yet, but I wouldn't plan my first drink for a big holiday dinner or other event - I'd take it slow and see whether the surgery (and also my period of pre and post-op abstinence) had changed my body's response. No sense making a bigger fool of myself in public than I have to

    Running low on energy

I used to consider myself a night owl, going to bed around 1 or 2 am and sleeping for maybe 4.5 hours. But now, I CANNOT wait to get to bed by 10:30, and that's stretching it. I can barely keep my eyes open! I am almost 4 years out with a lap band and am at goal. I take a Multivitamin and B12 daily (mostly) but probably don't get enough Protein. Anyone else dragging?

I had my post op today too and everything looked good. I got contact dermatitis from the dermabond that is on its way to healing. Still super itchy but it’s not as red as the past couple of days. I’m beginning to think my practice is so incredibly different from the others. We don’t have a purée stage. First 10 days is liquid+ meaning liquids/shakes/yogurt/pudding etc. after 10 days it goes to soft (fork mashable foods) which includes cooked veggies, meats (ex chicken salad and tuna salad, or any moist meat). I’m now cleared to slowly add in these softer foods before cleared for regular food in 3 weeks. I ate tuna tonight with 0 issues :) Fluid avg: 100oz Protein avg: 85g How is everyone else fairing?

post your weight loss here we want to know!!!

About 7 months out and down about 95lbs. I’ve had 3 fills and 1 unfill and currently at my sweet spot. I lost weight pretty steadily at about 1-3 lbs per week right from the beginning. I didn’t exercise at all the first five months. Didn’t really feel the urge because the weight was coming off fine on it’s own. I went in for a hydrostatic dunk test about 2 months ago and was pleasantly surprised to find out that my Body Fat (this is not BMI) was about 22%, which is Average for a guy of my age. I was inspired though to get my Body Fat down to 15%, which is considered Ideal. However, to get down to 15% I would not only need to lose another 10-20 lbs, I would have to do it while gaining muscle. Well, I like a good challenge – especially one I feel I can make. I have been hitting the gym since and it is working. I went back for another dunk test a few weeks ago and I dropped down to 21%. At this point, I think I am about 10 lbs away from attaining that 15%.

post your weight loss here we want to know!!!

I was banded 7/10. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. Just liquids the day before surgery. I've lost 27 lbs and just had my second fill. I don't feel any restriction yet and can pretty much tolerate anything. I do notice I don't get that hungry like I used to.

    Facs

What I did was literally put the top 10 names on a seperate piece of paper and wrote everything I could find about each one, good and bad. I was pretty easy after that to narrow it down to 5, then 2. Might sound silly, but I really prayed about the two choices and the next morning I woke up and knew who was the best choice for me. Yes, he was more expensive, but I knew in my heart he was the best choice for me. Hope this helps a little. Take your time and make the best choice for you.

    Losing Weight Prior To Surgery

It is always good to lose some weight prior to surgery but I sometimes think that surgeons are a bit unrealistic when they require you to lose up to 20 pounds before WLS. Most of us are food addicts in the first place which is why we are seeking the surgery to begin with and I think that should be taken into consideration. We would never expect an alcoholic to go without a drink for 3 or 4 weeks before being allowed to go to rehab so why would a surgeon require so much weight to be lost? I understand that the liver needs to be shrunk just prior to surgery but that could easily be accomplished with the loss of 5 to 10 pounds in the last 2 weeks prior to surgery. Requiring so much to be lost causes those of us with food issues to go into panic mode and begin bingeing and results in weight gains not losses. In my opinion if you don't think this is something you will be able to handle in a healthy way I would advise searching out another surgeon who's requirements are a bit more reasonable and that will allow you to lose a minimal amount of weight without causing you so much stress that you end up gaining. Oh, and for the record I was only required to lose a few pounds the last week before surgery which I did and my surgeoun said my liver looked perfect because of it. I did a diet of liquids for breakfast and lunch with string cheese and cottage cheese for snacks and for dinner I had a low carb meal of a meat, veggie, and salad.
  19. Woot!!! Congrats on reaching GOAL!!! Even with the change this is where you origanally started for and you dis it!! *que inspirational celebratory music* I to changed my goal weight for the exact sane reason. I reached goal and was just over bmi for normal by 6lbs so i lost another 10 and that gives me 4 lbs of float. :-) im glad i did. It helps mentally for me. I sooo understand the skin thing. I know on one level that what is bunched up under my clothes and held in check by underarmour is skin, but ugh!!!! I am gonna have a lower body lift evemtually. I just feel like that will be closure, the final piece of the new me putting the old to rest.

    Addicted to carbs....

I track everything on mfp and before input anything in my mouth I ask myself if I want to record it..... I have been able to stay under 10 carbs a day for 3 weeks now and feel pretty good most of the time. If I get tired I drink a little 5 hour energy and it does the trick. The first few days of low carbs were hard, but my doc wanted me to lose 28 pounds in 30 days, so I had to figure out how to do it and cutting carbs has done it for me. I only eat shrimp, egg whites, lunch meats and beef jerky. Pretty boring, but list 13 pounds in 2 weeks :-). I am at 9.5 weeks, sleeved 12/26
  21. I am 15 days out, surgery was 10/31. I am starting to feel hungry throughout the day. Protein shakes are so gross to me now I can barely get a whole one down a day. They are too sweet and I have tried several different brands. I am worried that I am not getting enough. I am also worried that my hunger is back already and will throw a monkey wrench in the progress I have made and any future progress as well. Help! I have not been cleared for soft pureed foods yet but have tried an egg and some mashed potatoes. My stomach seems to do okay with them. I stop when I start to feel full and feel quite satisfied and the hunger goes away pretty much the rest of the day. Is this normal?
  22. I have also been having a really horrid time. Stricture has been ruled out so they have changed my meds for stronger anti sickness and anti acid. They have also put me back on liquid Soups and Protein drinks only. This is now day 6 of the new meds and everything seems to have settled, surgery was on November 7th, I now have a endoscopy booked for the January 9th. All this took place due to the support I was given by my GP, who also put pressure on the bariatric team, have spend nearly 3 weeks out if the last 6 all in hospital. Keep up the pressure on the doctor who did your surgery, in fact if you can go there in person so they have to help you. I promise you one thing it does get better, its hard very hard the journey but you will get there. God Bless and I pray that things will be get well for you Sent from my HTC 10 using the BariatricPal App

    So Pissed!

Ok I talked to my insurance once again today and I got the clearest answer possible there is no guidelines the review it patient to patient I weighed in for my 4 th one and I gained 10 lbs over the 4 months they like freaked out on me at dr office so I was freaking out and called insuracd company and the rep told me best thing to do is for my next 2 weigh in get back to my start weight and even lose 5lbs if possible and atlesst it will show I'm deticated to get it but if I do nothing but gain now then most likely they will make me start over so it's time to buckle down next weigh in is sept 16th I could actually submit it now but my tenative surg date isn't until October 23rd so and last month weigh in is oct 9th so no point of submitting it with the gain if my surg isn't until oct and I dont want denial so I'm waiting it out

    Liquid diet crisis

Hi Meggie, I didn't count carbs. I've been scared off from that a bit since I did Atkins for 10 days and gained 7lbs - and I stuck to the diet 100%!! I'm just happy doing low carb rather than super low (plus I get constipated if I go too low).

Feel Like I'm Not Even Banded...

Different people have different effects from the band, it works for some and doesn't for others, it is a tool not a cure all, you have to have the mind set as well that you are determinded to lose and eat the right foods and amounts whether the band is filled or not. I have lost 220 lbs since i was banded almost 4 years ago, I have 10 lbs to go, I have never had a gain but i have been at a standstill or very slow losing process, has it been easy heck no. there are days i feel hungry but just have the mind set not to go grazing and find something to do to keep my mind off it. or drink some water to fill myself up. the band is there to help you and the rest is up to you and how much you want to get to where you want to be. You can do it...I know you can...
