  1. Had my band since 2008. Had revision to sleeve on 3/16/2016. The first week was difficult. Anything I drank had to be warm or was painful and yes I could feel it enter my stomach. It may be worse if you had hernia repaired. Hang in there, it will get better.

    Surgery Tomorrow

Had surgery afternoon of 17th and released to go home yesterday afternoon Other than the expected pain, I feel great and so glad my revision went well. Th operation took 5 hrs because of the revision, but I cannot say enough good about my Dr ans staff Sent from my SM-T310 using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was in the same boat and was denied for revision 3 times . Do not give up. Appeal and then if denied file a grievance and a peer to peer interview . Contact lindstrom obesity advocates they will get you approved and their fee is small and you can make payments . I'm 2 weeks out from my revision. Don't give up
  4. I had a band to sleeve revision done on Tuesday. All I wanted to do was sleep after that. Which I think helped tremendously with healing. Got up and walked that night. Pain was mostly soreness and chest pressure from the anesthesia. Walking helped with that using that ball thingie to exercise the lungs. Slept off and on the next day, walked some more. Leak test done yesterday afternoon and no leak found. Started feeling a lot better last night, enjoying the heck out crystal light, 1 oz every 15 minutes. No hunger at all. Now just waiting to find out what time I'm being discharged today. Feel really really good about doing this and looking forward to a better future. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  5. So I am so me with a long story, so long story short... First band 1/2011 lost over 100 lbs Got deathly ill and band slipped , second band 8/2102 and it has sucked. I am not scheduled for revision surgery July 20th. Excited, scared, nervous are just a few words. I may have to have the procedure done in 2 surgeries and that stinks. I am over all this. My first band changed my life for the better and I want that again. My daughter is having sleeve surgery in less then 2 weeks so she's my focus right now, but all the emotions are making me crazy. Ok done rambling. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  6. I had a band to sleeve revision May 17, following a second hiatal hernia (first hernia repair Dec. 2015). When I consume liquids, I can feel the liquids hit my stomach, which results in pain that is nearly intolerable, even with pain meds. Has anyone else experienced this? And, if so, how long did it last? History: Band installed May 2003 - gained 25 lb Diagnosed port leak June 2005 Port replacement 2005 - lost 160 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 90 lb Port replacement 2010 - lost 60 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 50 lb Sept 2012 - Feb 2015 - lost 50 lb Band drained Sept 2015 due to massive reflux Dec 2015 diagnosed with hiatal hernia & repaired same month Band filled March 2016 Bad hiccup April 2016 - confirmed hiatal hernia

    lap band revision

I had band placed in 2012, lost 40 lbs , port flipped and had repair, after that have not had successful fills. Last summer, my surgeon moved and new surgeon stuck me 10 or 12 times trying to do a fill, ended up with abdominal abscess which took months and sev antibiotics to go away or so i thought, abscess/infection has resurfaced again. So now band has to come out and hoping there are no erosions and can convert to sleeve in one surgery, anyone else out there had similiar issue? My sis isxa nurse, thinks i should file a suit against doc that did multiple sticks trying to locate port, any advice? Have revision surgery sched next week.
  8. I was one of those that jumped on band wagon 9 years ago because I was terrified of going with RNY. After my hopes have failed while having issues with the band, I didn't even lose 50% of my excess weight. After much deliberation and researching I decided I had to do something about it. So this time I ended up complicating my surgery even more since I was doing band removal, bypass and gallbladder removal but I had to take the chance... I had my surgery 5 days ago, I have new hope for the future and doing my portion of it. The reason why I went with bypass is I am prone to gerd, I have at least 125 lbs to lose, and I have also read about a lot of sleeve to bypass revisions and didn't want to take my chances. Recovery has been hard for me, I won't deny it, but today I am so much better already.

    Leak frustration

Hi all. Usually don't post but I need to vent to people that will understand what I'm going through. April 19 I had a bypass revision. 14 days post op my heart rate started racing and my temp was up . Went to the hospital and was sent home. Next day i went to my dr and I was admitted into the hospital where I stayed for 6 days. Dr found out I had a partially collapsed lung and a small leak. Now roughly 2 weeks later I'm back at home and have been on tpn and unable to eat or drink anything. I can't even take pills. I went in for a barium swallow today to see if the leak has resolved itself and no change. It's a very small leak, only 2 mm in length. I am so frustrated I want to scream. I'm tired of crying about this. I don't know if part of this is my personal issue with not being able to eat food or if it's just the ability to not being able to do anything normal, like sip on Water. For those who have had a small leak, how long did it take to resolve on its own. My dr said its too small to do surgery on. Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. 10. My bmi when I started the program was 66*, I believe. I first planned on the sleeve, but for the same reasons you are wavering, I decided to talk to others and read forums, etc. From that exploration, I saw that there are SO many people who begin the process happy with their sleeve but in the long run, end up revising to bypass. The sleeve can be great, and I've seen a few people (and I mean a only a few) who are happy 3-5 years out and don't want to revise. The fact that my bmi was high, the fact that so many sleevers end up getting or wanting but being unable to afford a revision, and the fact that so much long-term data exists for the RNY all cemented my decision solidly toward the bypass. And now I'm 9 months post op, had no complications, and I feel wonderful. I've also lost almost 150 pounds and 12 pant sizes since surgery day, and gained my health and a level of self-love and confidence I never really believed possible. *edited because I went to the calculator and checked and my bmi was way higher than I thought it was when I started the program at 402. At my highest, I weighed 442... which gave me a bmi of 73. Now I'm 39 and I can't even believe it was once that high... but anyway. >.>
  11. I think my subject line says it all!!! Today marks my one month band to sleeve revision. I could not feel better. I was 177.4 on surgery day and today I'm 162.2. Yippee!!!!!!! I have about 20 more pounds to go. I know the hard part is ahead but boy, do I feel awesome. For some reason the surgery has given me an extreme burst of energy- I haven't felt this good in years. I've been working my bees and just found out they are doing so well I had to add a top box today. Yey!!! So my lovely girls are growing, I'm getting smaller, it's spring in the South and life could not be better. Just wanted to share and wish everyone a great day and best of luck with their journey. Oh!!! I should add that this weekend I'm going on a overnight kayaking trip down the Peace River to look for fossils with my 12 year old daughter. I haven't slept in a tent in over 15 years... I must be crazy. So if you don't hear from me after Monday... I have fallen prey to a gator or exhaustion. I'm telling you, this surgery has made me (crazy) superwoman. I hope it lasts!!! Enlarged heart

I had to get cardiac clearance (due to borderline EKG) for my upcoming lapband to bypass revision. The echocardiagram showed an enlarged heart. The cardiologist explain that a number under 55 is considered a normal heart size and my number was 56, so it is only slightly enlarged. Has anyone had experience with this? Did losing weight reverse the enlargement?
  13. I am only 9 months out but may also have a healthy perspective. First of all, the surgery is on your stomach, not on your head or your heart. Many of us may not realize it but we have been stuffing our feelings with food. I have lost 91 lbs and still have about 40 more to go. It is coming off much more slowly now, but what am I doing to ensure that I NEVER GO BACK? I'm going to a therapist, going to Overeaters Anonymous, reading lots of very helpful self help books (don't have time to read? Listen on audible on your way to and from work or when running errands or cleaning house), I am journaling nearly daily while sipping on my morning coffee/protein shake. I still need to step up my exercise (if I want to make it to my personal goal, as far as my surgeon is concerned I'm already a big success). So if you have to do all that, then why do the surgery? Because it is a radical step to take care of yourself, which is something that most of us had not been doing very well pre-op, because let's be honest, if we had we never would have gotten to be morbidly obese. Also there is in fact a "honeymoon period" for the first 3-6 months. When you're losing a pound a day, you feel good about yourself. You are NOT hungry at all, and you actually start craving healthy foods. You feel like hey, I really CAN do this. During that time (ideally you start pre-op), you really start working on your issues, exercising, setting boundaries and taking care of yourself in many other ways. Here's a hint: it is NOT about the food. It's that you have to work on meeting your own needs in healthy ways. You have to make the changes in all areas of your life to set yourself up for long term success. That in my opinion is the difference between those who are successful long term and those who are not. At least that is what I've heard from those who have had "revisions" (aka second surgeries). Reading and participating in bariatric pal is also immensely helpful in learning to accept others and yourself. I was self pay and it was worth EVERY PENNY! Good luck and take care of you[emoji6]

  17. Ditto - 3 WLS first a band in 2013 lost all the weight but complications set in and could not eat or drink and the band came out in May 2015. Gained 30lbs and different surgeon did sleeve on 21 December 2015. Complications and blockage due to scar tissue from the very start, never moved from clear liquid stage. Weight 46kgs but had revision to bypass on 9th May as could not eat or drink. Think I will make the Guinness book for bypass at the lowest weight ever (lol)

  24. Hello all, Years ago, when Bariatric Pal first started, chat was really popular. I know there is a problem doing what I do if you're on a mobil ap. I always open up "the room" and go about surfing the net. I can hear a doorbell ring if someone comes into the chat room. So give me a minute to get back there. I had the band for 2 years and I revised to a sleeve 7 years ago. Anyone want to talk? click on Chat up above next to new content.
  25. Hello fellow WLS people I am new to this, I have had a lap band for 7 years with minimal wt. loss and a few problems along the way. 2 hernia surgeries 1 regular, 1 fondoplication. Recently went to the ER due to waking from a deep sleep choking on my own saliva/reflux?.. went from once in a while to more than a few times at night. A trip to my gastroenterologist to find my band had slipped and needed to be removed. I am a candidate for Revision Surgery and have researched Vertical Gastric Sleeve surgery.... But I have some serious concerns about the choking issue with the band. Was I only choking because the band had slipped or can this problem happen again with the new surgery. It was very scary not to mention I would think dangerous (aspiration pneumonia) anyone else with this issue with band slip and what was the result after Gastric Sleeve Surgery. I should add since I have had all the Fluid removed from my band I have experienced no choking... Any insight or experiences to this issue would be helpful..Thank you, Angel-Whetstone.
