  1. Second post: Today, Sunday-April 20, Yahoo has a front page story on what to eat. VERY good info. Five must eat foods for good nutrition added to your diet of high protein every day. If the story is gone by the time you read this highlights were green tea up to 4 cups (antioxidants), seeds and nuts-almonds, cashews (anti's) full of omega 3, whole grains for fiber - 3 servings (oatmeal), 25 grams of dark leafy greens like asparagus, broccoli, and a serving of low fat milk, Vitamin D, or yogurt ( 8 oz. )
  2. Ahh, CRS. My favorite disease. I've had it for years now. So do any of you eat Greek yogurt? I tried it for the first time today. Yummy yummy yummy!!!
  3. Well, I joined my Lucky #7s Thanksgiving Challenge to lose 10 lbs. by Thanksgiving...then I weighed myself and found I was 4 lbs. heavier than when I last weighed myself. DANG! But, it DID motivate me to excersize...yes, Anita....EXCERSIZE! I got out my pedometer that sometimes works, but gives me an idea of how much I'm moving throughout the day. I started getting on the treadmill (OK, not for more than about 20 minutes, but that's 20 min. more than I was doing before) I also started doing some crunches (you should see Stormy try to do them with me! She even grunts! I'm a sound-effects mom, makes everything more fun.) I've been swimming with the family at least twice a week and for the past 4 days I've gone out to chop wood! Makes me feel powerful. I found it funny that today Andrew and I were fighting over who was going to go chop and who was going to stay inside and monitor the 2 yr old eating yogurt...I won! I'm feeling good and even if I don't accomplish the 10 lbs., I feel like I've already won. The Halloween candy likes me a lot. Soon the bag will be empty and I'll be safe! I'm doing a lot better than before though! Maybe I should just adopt my neighbors' way of thinking and just call Halloween demonic and not Celebrate it? Nope, can't do that, it's too much fun! Well, the cruise is just around the corner and I'm actually feeling like I might look ok! I've been tanning and that always helps! Now, I just need to get my hair done and that's a real problem out here! Seems my stylist has used all of her products on herself and is out and awaiting a shipment...I'm curious if the chemicals went on her head or up her nose. (Inhalent abuse is HUGE out here! Sad, but true.) Later folks! I'd name you all, but do you really need to be reminded as to what your name is? Oh, just to make this even longer.... I came to the realization this week that I actually DO have a mental problem with food. I always thought that I wasn't one of "those people", but I AM! Oh my gosh! I really DO have a problem with food and I can actually SEE it now that I can't eat! I really DO have a problem with eating small/regular portions! Thanks for the support!
  4. Woofay - I am doing better because I went and worked out. There is something about those endorphins that really helps me cope better. My band is really restrictive and I tried two kinds of Chinese food tonight, both PB'ed, and then one of my dogs got on the chair and ate the food left in the bowl. I gave up on dinner and had a yogurt and a Healthy Choice bar, which go down easily. Tomorrow I will have a Protein shake. I am supposed to have another fill next week, that I think I will cancel. I don't see that I need any more restriction. Lap Dancer - I am so proud of you for doing the head work. I have been going to therapy for a long time, but since banding my sessions have been very powerful. I think that not eating to take care of me emotionally opens up all sorts of things I need to work on. I am trying to be very brave and gentle with myself. Last week's session was about my family. If I lose weight and get healthy will they win? Because my weight has been my retaliation for their abuses about my weight. My therapist said that I need to consider that the family isn't the winner if I lose weight, even though they may think they are and say cruel, mindless judgmental things. It had a profound impact on my thinking. Some of my stuff is sooooooooooooo old. Therapy is another tool, like the band. Mal - how is your son? You haven't mentioned anything recently, I hope that is because things are good. Hurray for exercise, it is the one place you are moving, because you choose to and not because someone else "needs" you. Hugs all - hope everyone is considering the 9th at Red Robin at 7pm. Write for directions! Michelle
  5. Notes on Eating: After one year, the changes that are measured are less on pounds and more on lifestyle. The most difficult thing for me has been to relearn my life. Things in need of change: - Not drinking my dinner. Normally drank four large glasses of liquid along with my meal. - Less of the scale, more of the day to day successes in terms of change. - Life does not happen from the four walls of my bedroom. Less time on my bed and more time OUT in the world. - Chew and then swallow. - What really makes you happy? Since thinking it use to be food and actually was, food is no longer an option. ............................ The first notice of concern was the times of my meals. It was recommended that I develop a pattern of eating consistent with regular intervals of eating. Three meals a day with smaller supplementing “snacks” that are planned and at 100 calories or some determined caloric intake not more than what is consumed at a meal. v Snacks should not be more in caloric intake than a meal. There should be no confusion between food intake as identified as a “meal” and one that is a “snack” that is planned as part of my food program. Snacks are recommended at or around 100 calories and preferably in containers that are easily carried with me. Recommendations were; Yogurt, 100 calorie snacks packaged as such, pudding, mozzarella string cheese and other items lower in fat content. v Pick a day of the week devoted to preparation for my week of food plan so I don’t run out of food or don’t have something on hand in the event I have an emotional situation that is a trigger for a binge. v When I arrive home from work, the time when I am most tempted to eat something I shouldn’t, have foods prepared to intake or elect to do a non-food activity I find enjoyable. An example of this is a movie. Tell myself that I will not eat my snack until after I have watched my favorite movie. Get a favorite book and elect not to eat until after I have read so far into the book. The idea being to create a new pattern of habits. Creating new patterns is important so when I deviate from that pattern I will immediately recognize it. After reviewing my diet it was found I was taking in more fat than I realized. Items that had hidden fats in them were skin on chicken, nuts, even thin breading on seafood can hold additional fat. The objective now is to shave away fat as much as possible. When eating out, opt for an all vegetarian meal rather than always a meat meal. Suggestions are pasta with marinara, not cream sauces. Salads, not large ones, but smaller dark green vegetable salads and soups are good. Alternate meals: Example; 3-4 nights a week opt for a healthy option for dinner and save the higher caloric/fat meal for another day but plan for it. This could be the ‘special’ item you enjoy as well. Plan for ice cream, plan for wings but again, create the pattern. Create alternatives. I enjoy sweet tea, carry the small tubes of peach tea by Crystal Light and keep them in my purse. Order water at the restaurant so the temptation to drink sweet tea is lessoned. Summary: Develop a pattern of eating consistent with regular intervals of eating Snacks should not be more in caloric intake than a meal Selections should be simple. The less complicated the better Pick a day of the week devoted to preparation for my week Creating new patterns of habit so when you deviate from that pattern you will immediately recognize it 3-4 nights a week opt for a healthy option such as an all vegetable dinner Create alternatives – I enjoy sweet tea, I can bring Peach tea packets in my purse and add to my water at dinner. Be creative.
  6. Hey Dee! Well, I ate absolutly terribly this weekend and now I am ready to start this P diet! I am not disciplined enough to pre-plan my meals, I wish I was! This is what I have had so far... B~Atkins shake S~HB egg (kind of hung there for a while, then it got stuck!) L~chicken patty S~1/2 yogurt D~?? S~?? I plan on walking Buster our usual 3 mile walk and water??? as always, by my side! I weighed this moring too....here we go sistah!!! I have to go back and print the diet. Oh, thanks for asking about Chris. He wouldn't wake up so I could take him to the urgent care. I think he will be fine...he CAN walk...LOL. I had sooo much to do this weekend that if he wanted to go, he had to get up early, he didn't so we didn't go and I haven't heard him complain and as a matter of fact, he ended up skating yesterday.
  7. I don't think I have ever seen any of that yogurt at my local store. Which is odd because we have a large Greek population here... Enjoy your B&J binge chickie!!!
  8. HAHAHAAHH!!! CRAFT! I love it. The recipe I've seen is Mocha Cheesecake Protein Shake, which is a scoop of any chocolate protein powder, skim milk (maybe 10oz?), 4oz of the plain greek yogurt, a tablespoon of the SF Cheesecake flavored yogurt powder, and ice - all pureed/blended in a blender. Sounds fabulous to me, haha. But I've not tried it yet.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

How far out are you MrsNellieC? I am SO jealous! What kind of meat did you have in the fajita? Heck, I am at 4 weeks on Monday and still have trouble/pain swallowing applesauce sometimes. Yesterday had a major puking episode after only 3 bites of scrambled egg and yogurt. I WANT FAJITAS!!!!

    Any March Sleevers?

I'm eating mostly yogurt and cottage cheese since I barfed on tuna (1/4 cup blenderized with nayo). I figured an extra week on semi-liquids wouldn't hurt. I eat 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese. Well, at the begining of the week 1/4 cup was all I could do but now I can do 1/2 if its liquidy. Ive also been doing 6 oz cup of greek yogurt 0%. That goes down very easy. I tried a 1/2 cup of lentil soup with 1oz of goat cheese. It went down fine but just didnt float my boat taste wise (mostly water). Hummus goes down fine but gives me heartburn. I need some help menu wise to start getting in more fiber. I am on mushies/soft foods until my next appointment.

I can't wait until Friday...at least after surgery I can have FULL liquids, so I can have soups and yogurt and pudding...I'd give anything for a yogurt right now!!!

    OCTOBER 2014

@@Beni First thing in the morning, I have my coffee with a packet of Bariwise Hot chocolate and a Quest bar. That sets me up with 37 grams of Protein to start the day, if I eat the whole bar (which I normally don't). For lunch, I either have a fish dish of some sort (17-30 grams of protein), or Greek yogurt with Bare Naked Granola Protein (28 grams of protein for the combo). By the way, I tried Starbucks Doubleshot with Protein yesterday, and it was pretty good too. Ended up with 41 grams to start the morning that way, but I think I'll stick with the Bariwise because of the sugar content. For my "snack," I have a Bariwise fruit drink (lemonade and grape are my favorites). That's another 15. And if I'm really hungry, I'll eat a bag of protein chips (Bariwise barbecue is my favorite). That's 10. That means by dinner, I have around 80 grams of protein already in (with no chips). But I still focus on protein at dinner. I either eat whatever meat my sister cooks for herself and some veggies, or I have a bowl of Special K Protein plus 1/2 cup of almond milk and some fruit (berries of some sort). Either way, I'll be closer to 100 grams. I was getting about 60-70 grams previously. This has definitely helped.

    OCTOBER 2014

I go through days like I am so hungry and feel like I've eaten all day, and then others where I forget to eat and still feel full. Not sick or anything. I realized though that on the days where I feel I've eaten a lot; I have probably only eaten a small portion. Some days I just buy food but don't eat it. It's like an old habit/compulsion. I'll go to Bojangles and buy 2 wings and a sweet tea, or buy a kitkat or last week went to mcdonalds and bought a french fry and a hot fudge Sunday. At Panera, I might buy a scone, coffee, and Mac and cheese. As soon as I try a bite of any of these things, I'm satisfied (or repulsed) and I bring them home to my husband or the trash. I ate a salad for lunch today and picked up a cookie on the way out off of a salad/dessert buffet and brought it home. I guess I'm doing this as a "I used to love these!" Kind of deals, but it's so weird. And costly. If I do try to force myself to take a bite of say fried chicken or Mac and cheese, my stomach rebels as soon as it's in my mouth and can't swallow and I immediately want something cold and clean like watermelon or water. It's not even a head hunger or craving that makes me buy. I think it's habit. But then I'm like, what the heck? I don't even want this! I'll throw whole sandwiches in the trash or give them to the guys at work. (Who are vultures and like that I'm on a 'diet' so they can eat my food.) I don't do this a lot, but maybe once a week. It's like a comfortable blanket to just have it near me I think. I once had an eclair in the fridge for over a month and my daughter asked me if she could throw it out and I told her no. She asked why, bc it was practically moldy, and I told her that I like it there. Later, I wondered why. Is it bc when I open the fridge and take out a yogurt that I actually "chose" the yogurt over the eclair? Is it a reminder of where I've been, or of something I used to love and want it there like a blankie to reassure me? I think I like looking at it sitting there, and I smile to myself and shut the door. Like, "you don't have power over me anymore!! See, I don't need you!" Idk. A psychologist might have a field day with me but I feel like I did when I was having food funerals, only I was sad then and powerful now. On most days I eat a protein bar on the way to work or a yogurt, a cheese stick as a snack, chicken with nuts and fruit for lunch and then maybe a protein shake for a second snack. For dinner, I eat maybe taco salad, a cup of chili, or chicken salad. Something lighter so I don't feel heavy when I go to bed. Plus I'm not usually hungry by then. Watermelon, berries (all kinds) and cantelope are my daily friends. That's where I am on this 11th month, still trying to honestly understand my relationship with AND without food.

Thanks everyone! It's good to hear the different experiences we are having. I feel so prepared with the band because of reading this forum. Bigbaby....you'll do great with Dr. B. I was only on the table for 25 minutes....that's how long it takes him to do the procedure. The nursing staff is fantastic and they take excellent care of their patients. I'm on liquids for 2 weeks, but can also have yogurt, pudding, jello and applesauce. I did have some jello last night (surgery day) and it really tasted good. I ate it cold right out of the fridge...the pudding too. My tummy is very tight feeling and I'm in some pain when I get to moving around. As I'm sitting here typing, I can hear my stomach grumbling, but I'm not hungry at all. Keep up the good work everyone!

LauraG my doctor says full liquids on days 3-7 post op. I'm lucky his list for that includes: skim milk; strained low-fat cream soups; tomato soup; liquid protein supplements; lite or fat-free yogurt; soy milk; veggie juices; milk shakes; egnnog; ice cream - low fat, low-sugar brands; custards; low-fat, low-sugar puddings; sherbert; fruit ice; nonfat frozen yogurt. I've been tolerating and loving it. For breakfast i had some Yoplait Whipped Strawberry yogurt...it was amazing!! No pieces. For lunch I had a Campbell's By The Hand Velvety Potato soup...blended a little extra and a fruit popsicle. Congratulations, Suzzzie!! I quit taking the Lortab Monday as well...was way too sleepy. Tylenol works but am wondering about Ibuprofen.

Good Morning: I start my pre opt today! I am actually ready to launch because I see this as a true beginning point! Dan, your diet now is what my pre opt diet is. I still get one small meal, 4oz lean turky/chicken and vegis. I can also have a yogurt( specific kind) and a specific fruit. I think these small add ins will get me through! I am headed for my physical, registration and blood work at the hospital today. I am not sure where I read it, that everything was easy but the needles! that is me. My veins stink! but I am a big girl! Talk to you all tonight. Janine

Here is a little background info.. The seed of Quinoa is an excellent food, rich in protein and high in fiber. The protein is well balanced and is particularly rich in the amino acid lysine, which is difficult to obtain from other vegetable sources. It is also high in calcium, phosphorous, vitamins B and E. Quinoa is a very versatile food plant that can be cooked many ways and tastes excellent. The grain can be used as a hot cereal; used in soups, casseroles and souffles; used in the place of almost any other grain, including rice; ground into flour; and toasted. An imaginative chef can find many more uses and ways to prepare Quinoa than those given above. Dishes ranging from appetizers through desserts can be prepared from Quinoa. Here is the nutritional analysis on quinoa... Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Quinoa Nina

Capt. Dan: I found a good breakfast the other day, if you like coconut and pineapple. Toast pineapple in pan with pam. Take ff vanilla yogurt, top with drained pineapple tidbits. Top with coconut. I haven't figured the protein on that but it had an amazing taste...and I could only eat half it was filling.

Toni, glad to see your humor is still with us! Vance welcome to a great thread!! Suzzzie You are amazing. Once I am home I can't see myself going back out again. I am truly impressed. I really need to get back to the gym. My last weight loss success and for a while after I went 4-5 times a week. I enjoyed it, really. But once you fall off the horse, the motivation just stops! I know many of the instructors and the regulars and I am afraid when I go back, they will be saying, " what happened to her!" But I know I need to do it. Pippz Hang in there about the portion control and eating to much. try to let the worry go. I know this is so hard. I was so hungry today after my work, I had to go to the mall to return some things and I walked past to many food places, but I did not buy. Marga My meals today were: Breakfast: yoplait lowfat yogurt, fruit; Lunch: Lean Quisine, Dinner: pork barbeque ( tons left over from the wedding) and a tablespoon of coleslaw on top. I am not sure that is enough or to much. I know I was hungry at 6. My son's wedding left lots of food around and I am staying away from the bad stuff, but it is hard! Great work, Nina, Toni, Heather, Insub, dan and all I missed !
  21. So over puree!! Dreaming f food with crunch such as a prawn salad. 2 weeks to go, not that I could get something like that down at the moment! This not feeling hungry s strange. I do feel empty at times especially on first waking up in the morning, but it''s different. I was even full eating half a cup of strawberries and yogurt last night and could not finish it. Sent from my iPad using VST
  22. I had training today (and tomorrow) off-site. This facility has awesome catering. I was able to eat morning tea and lunch and only ate a snack I has brought for lunch. Here is what I had and I didn't feel sick at all. Breakfast at home: 1/2 cup yogurt, 1 small banana Morning tea: a tangerine and about 1/3 of a sausage roll Lunch: a prawn, a few bites of baked chicken (pretty moist and I took tiny bites), a crouton, a bit of boiled egg, half a thin slice of salami, a couple noodles from a noodle salad, small piece of tomato, small piece of capsicum. And one bite of strawberry cake. I logged all this and it was about 130 calories. Afternoon snack: 2 cheese sticks (instead of a timtam) I will probably just have the last of my purée chicken with some gravy for dinner. I will end up just over 800 calories. I listed this to show people what they might be able to look forward to. I know some people don't tolerate this stuff. One thing is that I have been able to tolerate Water but now that I'm on solids water tastes bitter.
  23. Morning all! I was so lazy yesterday with the cold and rain and didn't get a single walk in. Today it's gorgeous so I plan to take two 30-minute walks. I'm still working on my Breakfast so will take the first one after that. It's hard to believe that my two weeks are almost up! I go back to work on Monday and start the purée phase Tuesday. I've been told to eat 6 times a day during this phase and only 1/2 cup at a time. That means I need to eat 3 times at work each day. Does anyone have any recipes? For breakfast I will have porridge or semolina, or ricotta blended with fruit. For morning tea I can have yogurt and puréed fruit or mashed banana. For the other 4 meals I have been told to have something that is half meat and half veg/starch (rice or pasta), with a good amount of sauce and blended smooth. I think I would like to make 3 different-tasting things that I can freeze in half-cup size portions. That way I can just toss them in my lunch bag in the morning. I have a small fridge in my office at work and there is a microwave. I have to drink one Protein shake a day as a liquid, not a Meal Replacement. I am very busy during the work day and I go straight from work to band rehearsal on Tuesdays and don't get home until after 10 pm, so I need to make this as easy and organized as I can.
  24. Tracy, So glad to hear he's feeling better. I can't imagine the stress you were having not knowing what was happening and trying to do your best. You deserve a stiff drink for that one. And a long nights rest. Do make sure he walks around every now and then. Don't let it settle in his lungs. Take care of both of you. Working on my fourth round of 20 ounces of water. Haven't even started any of the cooking so I'm doing good food wise. Can it be bad to have to much yogurt in one day? I've had 2 yoplaits already and was just wondering. I'll check in later.
  25. Went had my appointment with Malley today. He got his haircut and I didn't get a chance to tell him how much I liked it. He was pretty sympathetic about my not losing any weight. He was just glad I made it thru the holidays without gaining. I'm still upset about it though. I'm a better person than that and I'm bound and determined to not let that happen again. He cranked it down pretty good. I haven't eaten all day and finally had some yogurt for dinner. It's still sitting on my band. Hoping this is the one. Weather is getting ready to turn bad here. It was absolutely beautiful here today. We even took Dogie to the park and walked around. He had a ball. I got called in to work for tomorrow. Will have to see if the sleet starts first, hope all holds off till I can at least get out to vote. Got to do my duty. Judy- A big Thank You to a Guardian Angel. Terri- Still keeping you and your family in my thoughts. Jennifer-?????????? Everyone stay safe and warm evening and talk to you tomorrow.
