Dissapointment ... First Personal Training Session

You are right about the wacky trainer--run as fast as you can in the opposite direction! I have been working with a personal trainer now for more than 6 years. Initially I went to a gym and now I have a trainer in my home. Even when I had the trainer 3 hours a week, it never came close to 1000 dollars per month, not even half that! I delayed getting a new car and used the money from a car payment to cover the cost. So I was driving a 15 year old car (LOL) that was in good shape, and just 3 weeks ago got a new one. I never lost weight from the trainers though, although I became a lot more fit! I hope you can find someone you like. My trainer has learned a lot from me and has a different attitude now towards obesity than when she first got me. It has been good for both of us! I wish you the best on your journey!

    Workout after Lap surgery

It's fairly standard to not work out for 4-6 weeks post op but you should check with your doctor to be sure. I swim so I had to wait six weeks to completely heal the incision before getting in the pool. Walking however was encouraged from Day 1

Questions About Protein Drinks. Very Confused

Sure, I used to mix my powders with Lactaid milk for a long time as my tummy was intolerant. It tasted exactly like as if I made it with milk. And yes to the fruit. The only fruits to be wary of for the first few weeks are ones with tiny seeds, or ones that are very fibrous. In fact, I'd wait for at least 3 weeks before adding fruit, but once you're over your initial healing they should be fine.
  4. 1. Did your insurance pay for plastic surgery after your weight loss? 2. What hoops did you have to jump through, if any to get your insurance to cover your plastic surgery? 3. What type of plastic surgery did your insurance cover? Any other information would be great. I need to find out if my insurance will cover and need to know the right questions to ask and how to word my questions. TIA.
  5. I would just like to say. Today is my 1 month anni! 17lbs down, under 40 bmi and 3 inches gone! :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What is my Problem?

Wow thanks everyone for letting me know I'm not alone! And ElfiePoo, your quote just made a lightbulb go off in my head. Of course, that's it! Since my fill last week I've felt restriction...and even experienced some stuck episodes, so I've been avoiding foods I must chew and eating more carbs! DUH! That makes all the sense in the world! The more carbs we eat, the more we crave!! THANKS a million, now I know what to do!
  9. I am seriously exhausted, like almost all the time. I started taking huge doses of B Vitamins in addition to my bariatric vitamins in an effort to make myself a little more alert. Caffeine isn't helping very much either. I realize my body is working hard right now to convert my fat into energy. I get that it's hard work, and takes a toll. However, I am still sleeping 11-12 hours a night. It's hard to be active, and exercise when I feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. Add to that, I've hit a stall. I've been just about single-mindedly focusing on getting all my Protein in, and getting enough Fluid. Any advice, or encouragement would be appreciated. Has anyone been through this before?
  10. I'm a little over three weeks out of surgery and the incision at the port site is open just a little bit all the way to the left . Just wondering if anyone had trouble with this particular incision healing and what you did for it, also how long on avg it took to close. On the other hand, all of the other incisions look great. Plus I have lost about 21lbs including pre-op diet!!!!
  11. I was banded the same day as you. My doctor told me that the incisions would feel fine in a few days but the port incision would be swollen, bruised and/or sore for 3-6 weeks. Sorry, I know it's not fun to think of. I guess because I knew that going in I was prepared so it's not terrible but it's certainly not fun!

    Stall 7 weeks out

    Stall 7 weeks out

You have no idea how normal that is. Don't worry, you'll start losing again. Your body is just readjusting itself. I'm 7 months post op & I had a 2 month stall where 2 numbers were just going back & forth. The scale FINALLY moved today. Added more walking.....don't worry!
  14. So when I saw the new dietitian a couple weeks ago she gave me some great ideas about what different Proteins I could try. The first was a Protein from GNC called AMP. i found a small-ish resealable bag and chose Strawberry!!! i hate that most of my proteins aren't available in strawberry so i'm excited about this option. The second option is a drink from Atkins called LIFT. 21g protein per bottle! Not really a shake, more of a vitamin-Water type drink. I FOUND THEM AT MY WAL-MART ON CLEARANCE!!! for $7 a pack. normally they are 9.99-11.99 from what i can find online. so i just got one, but let me know if you are a fan, because i'll pick up more. Isopure is the devil to me. Somebody on these boards once told me that 'isopure tastes like cat ass' and seriously, they are right. i can't stand that stuff. Next- online things. I am a huge fan of youtube and love to watch inspirational videos there, plus old episodes of Fat Doctor. One thing that i fell upon when looking at lifting/bodybuilding videos was a great couple called Fit Couple Cooks. They do meal prep. Absolutely GENIUS!! love their prep videos. they weigh EVERYTHING. and all the recipes are basic-stuff you would have. shrimp with cauliflower rice and veg. butter chicken. chicken fajitas, beef and veg. lasagna. ALL great stuff. they portion and give you tips for storage/freezing. they each have had a significant weight loss journey and he is a registered dietitian so they are pretty knowledgeable. the best part, most of the meals cost about $3-5 per serving so they are very cost friendly. That's it from me. getting late. have a great start of week!
  15. my doctor's office receptionist screwed up and called today to tell me they won't allow me to move up my fill and they have a policy where I have to wait 6 weeks before my next fill...so they had to push my appointment back again until Oct 19th!! ugh!! Im so frustrated and I thought I was going to get some help next week..now I have to wait another 3 weeks...bummer!!!
  16. I went for 2 weeks and lost nothing too...but I keep telling myself look where I have come from. It took a lot of years to get here and this is not magic..keep plugging away!!!

  19. i am 3 months out and have always been able to eat more than other sleevers. I now eat no more than 6 oz. each meal. I could probably do more, but i too am scared of "stretching" my stomach. Good luck!

Is there a normal amount of food?

I was still on mushies/pureed foods at a month out. I could usually get in around 2-3 oz of whatever it was I was consuming at the time. Those were difficult times, but I did what I had to, to make sure I was getting as much fluids and Protein in as I could stand. Good luck!
  21. I was sleeved on August 30 and can stomach about 1/2 of food. My diet progression is a little slower than some others. I have never Vomited and am happy with the amount I can eat. According to my doc I should be able to do 3/4c but can't do it yet. Good luck!

    I'm Green for Go!

I did it! Had my banding surgery first thing this morning! Had to get up super early 3:30 am, but was the first case and home by noon (I think. I was a little fuzzy and super uncomfortable at the time). Nice not to have to spend my whole day there. Met a really nice person who was also there for surgery and I hope I gave her support and encouragement. Told her to come and join us here on the board.

    Sad moods since wls

I did the first two weeks so many emotions going through your minds.first you realize that food willl no longer be your friend, and you question that you made the right decision, and being on clear liqiud is hard, but after you get through the first two weeks it get's easy and time go by,i'm now on soft foods,so i can eat foods that i like but just not much of it only a few spoons and i'm full,i find the chat line on here was such a big help click in to the chat room daily,it will help you to get through,it's hard to talk to family, unless they went through it so be encourage it will get better
  24. There is a band to sleeve revision forum here that you might want to check out. I think there are some people that have been successful in achieving weight loss with the band. They work hard at it and use it as a tool. One of the many problems is, I think, that the weight eventually comes back (as it did with me), and the band really isn't meant to be a permanent implement in your body. After a while, it has to be removed or replaced, and so many things can go wrong from hiatal hernias to erosion, scar tissue, and ulcers. My band and port was being strangled by scar tissue and was causing me pain. I wanted it to come out desparately anyway when I realized I had band-induced bulimia. I don't think you will find a lot of people here at this forum cheering on the use on the band, but if you want another perceptive, there is another forum that you could ask on: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/ I think the sensation of hunger varies from individual to individual. It is true that the hormone grehlin is removed when 85% of your stomach is removed; however, that is only one of about a hundred or more hormones that regulate hunger. I feel hunger when I haven't eaten in a while. I'm only two and a half weeks out from surgery, but I would say that the sensation of hunger is greatly reduced, and I think that will be a mostly permanent condition. I think the sleeve is a much more permanent solution for weight loss compared to the band, and it also has a much longer history of success than the band has. I still enjoy food, and I am satiated after my incredibly small meal:-) I had a small slice of pizza last night with chicken sauage on top, and it was delicious, followed by a sugar free pudding.
  25. I'm 5 days post op. I stayed in the hospital a few days longer than planned due to swelling where my hiatal hernia was repaired, so I couldn't really swallow anything for the first two days. I'm doing better now. I'm still fairly weak though. I got in 400 calories yesterday, probably less than 100 the days before that. I'm up and about in my house, doing things like making the bed, picking up kids toys, loading the dishwasher, etc. And today I had my teen drive me to walmart and I shopped for a few things, walked around there for 20 minutes or a bit longer, then came home and heated up leftovers for the kids and some Soup for me. And now I'm exhausted and ready for a nap. I see people talking about going to the gym and I can't imagine it yet. How much exercise are you getting in the first week or two?
