    May 2019 Surgeries 🎉

I went from 313 to 287 between 5/9/19 (surgery date) and 5/15/19. In the second week I have only lost 2 pounds, but my pants are loose. I did some Googling and it seems that the weight loss can be sporadic at times.

Yeah, my RD said that for the first 2 weeks, my only real goal is fluids, anything else is a bonus. Figuring out when to take my meds is part of today's challenge. Can't take my multi + iron with other meds but I'm supposed to take it with food, yada yada. And getting in a 10 minute walk every 2 hours that I'm awake. Seems small on paper, but they dominate my brain right now. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    May 2019 Surgeries 🎉

I had surgery with a hiatal hernia repair on Wednesday 5/15/19. I am required to follow a clear liquids diet with 70g protein and 64 oz of fluid for 7 days. I am having a problem swallowing chewable vitamins. They taste so bad, and are so hard to get down!!!

    Weight

It took me 10 days to get to my pre-surgery weight due to water retention. You are not alone friend, trust me.

    Regained after GS

Your tool should still work. It'll take going back to the basics - protein first, then non-starchy vegetables. Limit fruit and whole-grain carbs. Avoid simple carbs. Weigh, measure, and log everything you eat. No drinking with eating. I haven't gained all my weight back, but there have been a couple of times when 10 lbs snuck on that I had to take off. It takes a lot longer than it does immediately after WLS, but with hard work, it DOES come off...
  6. I am 3 weeks post and still on liquid diet and will be for at least 3 more per my dr. When I went for my two week check up I was told not to get discouraged because I probably would not lose more than 10 lbs over the next month. I’ll take it. Keep your head up. You will lose.

    Sweets

Other than a couple bites of some dessert* (I forget what it was) over Christmas, I have had no sweets (or chips/candy/chocolate/junk food/cake/etc..) since before my 2 week liquid pre-op diet. *It sorta helped that the Christmas dessert make me sick - I suspect it was my first (and only, so far) foray into the world of dumping - 10-15 mins after eating those couple bites, I was nauseous for over an hour and spent an almost equal amount of time in the bathroom 😢. It was an unpleasant enough experience for me to avoid sugar ever since.

    March 2019 sleepers

Hi Guys, Just stumbled across this bulletin board, great to see others sharing their experiences and stories so here is mine Averaging around 130kg for the past 10 years my battles with overeating have caused everything from Type 2 Diabetes to high blood pressure and everything in between. It wasn't about me eating bad food, it was the over indulgence of the food itself. After attempting every diet known to the human race a decision was made to have the sleeve surgery done. The Surgery was performed by Dr KunzinKovas @ St George Private Hospital in Kogarah NSW, Australia in Early March 2019. The first 3 weeks were in and out of the hospital for various circumstances. I won't lie it was hell for the first month. 16 Weeks after the surgery I weigh in a 95Kg from 120Kg just before Surgery, it has been the best decision of my life. My Blood sugar levels are now before 5.5, no more high blood pressure, quit smoking 4 months ago. I feel a million dollars and now have the advantage of teaching my body how to eat again without the drug of indulgence in me.

    Spicy foods

I could tolerate slightly higher than mild prior, maybe a hint of jalapeño and a few red pepper flakes. I can handle much more now and find myself increasing spice when I cook Mexican, Thai or curry. If I were to assign a number on a 1-10 scale; I’d say I was a 3.5 before and now a 6.5. I don’t recall my first spicy meal, but if I had to guess it would have been lean ground beef (97%) lettuce taco wraps. my theory is since I eat so little, I want what I’m eating to have a lot of flavor. edited to add, my new favorite spicy thing are baked ground chicken meatballs made with sambal.
  12. Neither my insurance company nor the surgeon required weight loss but I did lose 10 pounds over the course of 2 months after my consult and my surgeon was happy about it.

    Gastric Bypass after Lap Band

I had my lap-band done in 2009. Weight loss starting off was great, I got down to 245 lbs. I have had a great deal of issues with gastric reflux, vomiting, other days can eat like a horse with no restrictions, I stopped getting fills in 2015, I have gained all but 10 lbs of my pre-surgery weight back, I also currently sleep under a CPAP machine but cannot use it as I should do to the gastric reflux and waking up as if I am choking on my own saliva and coughing horribly. I recently went to see about having a revision and my doctor informed me that I can have the revision but would have to wait 3 mths after removal of the lap-band to have the Roux en y procedure. Can anyone let me know about healing time with the lap-band removal, how long did it take for insurance approval (BCBS), and finally, the actual recovery time for the lap-band removal and the recovery of the GBS. I am a remote worker and was wondering if I would be able to do my job which I sit for 8hrs intermittently with standing. Thank you in advance for information!
  14. Thanks for your advice... I have been doing the treadmill every day.. 1st day only 3 minutes before a pause.. 2nd day 5 minutes before a pause... 3rd day 7 minutes before a pause... Lap Band to Roux en Y

I had lap band in 2013 but then in 2017 it slipped causing me to have severe reflux and in Nov 2017 I had it removed. My Dr said nothing about any revisions so I thought I could maintain my weight myself. Nope...I was right back to where I started. March 10, 2019 I had a Sleeve done by another Dr in which I was very happy with. I am really looking forward to the journey again in getting back to my happy weight of 170.

    I AM OVERWEIGHT!

I kept on my plan. After about 10 days of stall, I deliberately changed my intake for 4 straight days. I ate extra calories (up to 1100, when I normally eat 600 to 800) and carbs (purposely ate over 60 grams when I am normally well below 50 grams) because I'd heard lots of folks did something similar to break their stalls. It did not work for me. After those 4 days I went back to my regular diet and a couple days later the loss picked up again. My body simply needed that time to readjust. I knew that was the case, but I was scared that I was "different" and I was suddenly done losing. Long story short, stick to your plan and give your body a good few weeks to adjust to the massive changes! You will begin losing again in time!
  17. At the beginning of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet in October 2018, I was 235 lbs. My surgeon suggested that reaching 160 lbs within a year would be a success. I got to 160 lbs in 4 months (Feb 2019). For a personal goal, I chose 120 lbs, which is in the middle of the "normal" BMI range for my height. I was in the 120's until I was about 30 yrs old, so I figure it was not impossible. I'm almost 7 months post-op and I'm about 10 lbs to my personal goal. I figure at my current rate of loss, I should reach this by the end of next month. Then comes maintenance which will be another lifestyle change altogether...yikes.

  20. Day 11 of my 2 week liquid diet and I’m struggling today. I don’t know if I can do this, what am I doing????? My husband tell me every morning before I go to work how he’s so proud of me and I appreciate that. My 10 year old daughter wants to make sure everything I put in my mouth “mama can you have that” lol . I just don’t know how to feel right now, I’m excited, nervous, scared, sad, I’m just all over this place. My surgery is in 3 days and yes I did cheat on my diet Mother’s Day. I have lost 13 lbs so far but my diet does allow me to have lean meats and non starchy vegetables. So it’s not like I can’t eat , just not what I want. I don’t even know want to eat it’s just knowing I can’t have it that is bothering me. Anyway I know this post is all over the place , but I just wanted to share my feelings.
  21. I was so scared of still having NASH I voluntarily put myself on a Liver- Shrinking Diet the Entire month of August 2018- and it WORKED. My surgeon only had to make a teeny portal for the liver retractor, it was the first one to heal, it is only visable now because right below my sternum I had no previous stretch marks. My lower abdomen, ah that is another story, I had 3 babies at or approximating 9 pounds in weight, and wouldn't you know, they each choose a slightly different angle to rest in! My perennial joke-My belly looks like the road map to Indianapolis with all the State and County access roads clearly marked. A good benefit to weight loss? They are actually getting narrower with less internal fat pushing them out. But alas, no bikinis, no 2 piece bathing suits, my skin looks like a 10 car pileup on the Beltway!
  22. I set a random goal for myself and met it in Jan 2019 (so 14 months post op but I bounce up and down a lot... Maintenance is crazy different than losing), I however met my Surgeons goal for me by 1 yr post op. They were satisfied so I was satified. I felt surprised actually that mission was accomplished.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Playing catch up 17. I have an ongoing clean out project in my apartment. I'm donating clothes that are now too big and other items to Housing Works in my city. 18. I had a mani-pedi which included a massage! 19. I plan on taking a long shower after a run this morning.
  24. Hi! I'm looking at getting DS. I am currently in the process of finding a surgeon/WLS program. I am trying to find out if anyone here has gone thru the process of getting Cigna to cover their surgery since the beginning of 2019 (from what I can tell there was a policy change but I'm not sure what that change entails). What kind of waiting period did you have to go thru? Other requirements? I'm *hoping* to be able to get my surgery done by the end of July- my Cigna insurance runs out then due to me turning 26. Any input/insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
