  4. Ok fellow sleevers, Please help me out! I am two weeks and three days out. Still having a lot of pain in my belly. I had my surgery on July 10th and went home on the 13th. Felt pretty good! The next day was Sauturday and I felt bad all day! I didn't have severe pain, I just felt bad... I took a long nap and got behind on my drinking. So I started as soon as I got up from my nap...and later I got sick and threw up around 7pm. Felt worse and I went to bed kinda early at about 9:30. So I woke up at about 5am and felt worse and was in a lot of pain.... called Dr, he said go straight to the hospital. We knew I didn't have a leak, there was no blue in my drain. But anyway he pre admitted me. So when I threw up my stomach got swollen! It was excruciating! I had to stay three more days in hospital! Came back home on the 18th. and felt really good!!! Until... Sunday night!!! I leand over on my left side against cushioned couch arm to watch my kids. Didn't hurt at all. when I sat bach and straightened up... it hurt like a very back muscle pain. So a few minutes later I did the same thing (I know, I know, Dumbass)! So it was late and way past the boys bedtime. like 10:30pm, so I went to lie down with them. By that time I was shaking it hurt so bad! I didn't feel like gettig back up, so finally I just passed out. I woke up at 5am, and could not move it hurt so bad! I couldn't even breathe! Every breath in and out hurt so bad, all I could get were little shallow breaths. It took me more than ten minutes to get up off the bed! I waited til 6:30 and called the Doctor. He said he thought my tube had shifted... and I could come in for an xray and maybe they would take it out. I didn't thing I could stand the 1hr 2omin drive for a maybe, I was in severe pain! I took some extra pain med and tried to rest. The nurse called later, and by that time i had just taken more medicine, and was lying still in bed, and felt a little better. So she said if I didn't want to make the trip that I could come in the next day and she would take it out. I agreed (again, I know, dumbass) believe me, I was kicking myself all night, it was pure hell! I was in so much pain I didn't think I would make it. I took something to help me sleep... and then woke up at 3am, and got very sick. I threw up and then had dry heaves forever! I couldn't stand it. The nurse had made me an 11:45 appt. but I knew I couldn't make it until then, So i left and was there when they opened! The pulled my tube and bandaged it.. no stiches, I was suprised. I did feel a little better, but it was short lived. I guess the tube really irritated everything. I am still in bad pain! I can't even lay on my side now, which I could do before this tube incident! It just sucks! Did anyone else go through this, or experience pain this long?? I am pretty miserable!
  5. I plan on it. I'm still on the post-op diet levels so it'll start getting easier this next week. I can now add beans/legumes and seafood. Tonight DH and DD had chopped BBQ chicken sandwiches and squash while I had 1/2 of an individual Trader Joe's Mexican Quiche. Tomorrow night we're planning salmon filets and I can't wait! Snowbird, question for you! I saw that you had a Brat at the BBQ. How does your stomach handle that? We have an Oktoberfest dinner at church (German Lutheran!) on 10/4 and I'll be coming off of my post-op diet that week. By then I'll be eating all foods. I'm nervous about the brats. Hot German Potato salad might be okay, tho it has vinegar in it and the Red Cabbage might give me some problems but I was really curious about the brats. I only get them once a year (at this dinner) so it's kind of a treat. Thanks.
  6. i found the yummiest sausage dogs. johnsonville turkey sausage with cheese in the middle. The calories is only 80 per link, i can only eat half, its the size of a hot dog. and protien around 8 grams not the best but i usually have it with my scrambled better than eggs in the morning which add an addlt 10, carbs is only 3g and fat 2g per link. not bad and they are so delic.

    Weight loss amount

Hi. I'm 19 days and lost only 15 lbs. I think it really depends on your starting weight. I just hope to see more going down in next weeks, months and years. Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Vinesqueen (and Jack) Thanks again for your wonderful insight and ways of bringing topics to light. I am struggling with a plateau and now it makes sense. The first 25 pounds are my last couple of years gain. The other 65 have been my 'consistent buddies' for 10 years or more and were intermitten before. Of couse they are don't want to leave. Just when I thought I was done identifying friends I am losing in this process (drinking/partying friends, cooking friends, eating out friends), I am finding a friend that I will lose and don't care - my long term fat cells. Thanks for reminding us that those weights were set points for our bodies for a long time and it will take time to overcome it. I guess this is another perspective on my patience lesson. Celeste

    Rate of weight loss preband/postband

I have always lost weight slowly. Even on phen-fen my best month was 6 pounds. I managed to take off 9 of the pounds pre-surgery so really since surgery (7 months) I have only lost 26 pounds. I have also been stuck for the last 10 weeks. I had alot of stress during that time too but the cool part is, I didn't gain 20 pounds like I would have before. I am fluctuating up and down 3 pounds. But my goal this new year is to work on the rules. I will be content if I go back to my usual loss of .6 - .8 pounds a week or 3 pounds a month. That will be 3 pounds less than the month before!! And 12 pounds in 3 months. And hopefully by 18 months post-op, I will be at goal. Patience is my new motto. Good luck on your decision.
  11. I am sure that you must be frustrated. I hope that you get this resolved. I had my first fill on 01/04 (1.7cc) and will have my second on 01/29. I do not feel any restriction now and I hope that they will give me more than they gave you on your second fill. Surely someone will call you back today.

Has anyone done any type of detox at all since WLS?

Well I'm going for it. I will start my 10 day liver cleanse next Monday. We shall see how it goes. I'll be doing it with a friend through our chiropractors office. I'm hoping to rid my body of all the toxic medicine load my body has endured for years and hopefully will gain some good energy. Results to follow

    Losing slow, but it's ok!

I don't have either of those surgeries. I have the band and I'm happy with it. I'm averaging 10 lb a month. I'm going with slow and steady. I've not advertised my WLS and people are noticing my loss, but not going "oh you have lost so much weight you must have had WLS." For me I'm happy to be constantly losing each month instead of gaining. Banded 10/12/16

    struggling.....

Dave, Thank you for your great questions. I did the math. I originally lost 60% of the my expected weight...I am now at 38%. I started to slip when I went back to college to complete my degree....poor eating habits, stress, lack of sleep, while working full time. It took me just over a year to complete my degree---then I realized what was happening. I still feel great, but I kick myself for letting this happen. The health benefits are still there....my diabetes has not caught me yet, but it is breathing down my neck.....this in itself I enough to get me moving. I just found out my insurance will not cover bariatric services of any kind so for now I will skip this years visit. I did speak with the nurse over the phone and we chatted for awhile. Back to basics she suggested. I also went to the support group meeting not much help there. So I am reaching out to you here in hopes that I will get some support and make some connections to keep me on my path. As for motivation, I was bound and determined to be successful, I still dream of reaching my goal weight, or close to it if possible. I have set small goals for myself, like getting another 10 pounds off before Feb. I need to stay away from the junk, exercise more, and regulate my intake of Protein and carbs. This sounds so easy.....I wish it was.

    struggling.....

The connection between both stress and lack of sleep and weight regain is well documented and the subject of a number of studies. There have been successful treatments from a psychological perspective but that is well beyond any help I can offer. But I love your determination and having completed your degree has hopefully reduced the stress you are under. If you are not doing so already I strongly recommend maintaining a food log. I use and highly recommend My Fitness Pal but Spark People is recommended by many folks on the forum as well. In my experience, the key to weight loss and subsequently to weight maintenance is managing your weight. And the key to managing your weight is maintaining a food log. And the key to maintaining a food log is understanding what I call "The Law of Averages". You've set a goal of losing 10 pounds by Feb. So your goal is to lose a little over a pound a week. Configure the settings in your app to lose a pound a week. The app will calculate a daily calorie goal that you'll need to achieve in order to meet your weight loss goal. It is unrealistic to expect to meet a calorie goal every single day for the rest of your life. More importantly, it's not necessary. That calorie goal is an AVERAGE. So on those occasions when you go over your goal, you simply adjust your goal down by 100-200 calories for the next day or two and you're right back on track with your average. It's all about control, not denial. So you try your calorie goal for a week and then check your weight. If you lost a pound, great! If didn't lose anything or even gained a little, adjust your calorie goal down - don't get crazy, 100-200 calories should be enough. Follow that for a week and then check your weight. Repeat until you find the number that works best for you. It's simple, it's easy and it works like a charm. Your log helps make you accountable - to you. It also works amazingly well in helping you understand the relationship between what you eat and the effect it has on your weight. It teaches to manage your weight instead of your weight managing you. When you see the changes in your weight in response to those minor calorie adjustments, your confidence soars. You log allows you to react quickly to changes and that makes all the difference in the world. Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. There are tons of very knowledgeable folks on the forum that are more than willing to help you along the way. You're gonna love the new you!!
  16. Hello everyone I am new here and just wanted to say hi , introduced myself and tell you my story. My name is Tom ,I am 40 years old and I am from Toronto,Canada. Yes, I almost use to weight 1,000 lbs. I actually was 910 lbs at my highest just about a year ago. On December 10, 2015 I checked in to a hospital weighing 910 lbs and I am currently still here at the hospital continuing to receive the treatment and help I need one year later. My 1 year anniversary stay at the hospital was just 11 days ago and on December 10, 2016 I weighed 475 lbs . So I lost a total of 435 lbs + in one year. Now , I also had another problem. I had developed a big nasty a localized lymphedema (big tumor)in my groin area that grew to be about 180-200 lbs it self estimated. This lymphedema caused me my original reason i went to the hospital because it pretty much ancored me down to the point I wasn't able to walk ,get around anywhere but a few feet from my bed to the couch. Also with moving and trying to walk around stuff came great pain since the Lymphedema tumor had developed lots of ulcers and open wounds that were very bad and nasty. I no longer could take the pain and suffering and reached for the desperate help I needed but was terrified to ask for. So in the hospital I was put on a strict diet of 1500 calories to start for the first month or so and then eventually decreased to 1200 calories a day food intake. Also along with the help of my physiotherapist, doing any bed excercise we could in the beginning because at 910 lbs that's all that I could do. I lost 400 lbs by diet and exercise by September 28, 2016...Which is when I had my Gastric bypass surgery. So in 9 months basically I lost those 400 lbs and had my surgery. When I first came in here to the hospital I wasn't even thinking about getting a gastric bypass surgery or any kind of diet surgery etc. I came here in hopes of having something done and even removal of that lymphedema tumor that was paining me and ancoring me down. So it was all about losing weight and seeing what will happen. @910 lbs noone in their right mind would do any kind of surgery on a person unless it was life and death. So they had no plans to have anything with removal of this lymphedema growth till I lost enough weight and be safe. As I started to lose weight the talks and suggestions of having a Gastric bypass surgery came up by doctors. They thought it would help me lose weight faster now so we can deal with the Lymphedema growth surgery with lower and safer weight levels. Also they said it would help me in future to lose more excess weight and keep it off or maintain my weight at least for life if i used this tool correctly (Gastric bypass surgery). So in due time my doctor said that I've lost enough weight and approved me for Gastric Bypass surgery and with a weight of 510 lbs I had my surgery September 28, 2016. Now, with all this weight loss my lymphedema growth has also shrunk from its giant enormous size down to about 1/4 of what it use to be but it is still there and weighs bout 50 lbs still. Me and my doctor here at the hospital are expecting a special surgeon to come see me today(December 21,2016) actually about the removal surgery of this lymphedema hrowth. So hopefully he will have good news for me. Because that lymphedema tumor is still a big anchor for me and really in the way and holding me back from doing a lot of things including not being able to walk and move around in certain ways because it gets in the way. Now the hospital I'm in has a special bariatric program and there was a reason why I actually ended up picking this hospital to come to. I knew someone who's dad is a surgeon here and he directed me to have EMS and Fire to bring me here from home. Also, since I'm in Canada all hospital stay to date including my Gastric Bypass survey was covered under OHIP as we call it here. That good old free Canadian healthcare that every Canadian gets at work for me luckily. I have been truly lucky and blessed with everything from being able to get the help I needed and all the amazing people involved including all nurses and doctors and other hospital admins who have done everything they could to keep me here and help me achieve my goals to get better and walk out of this hospital on my own 2 legs. Since the surgery on September 28th I have lost 40 lbs till now December, 21 2016. Now this is due to a problem I have developed with my platelets in my blood. My immune system became overactive and started killing my platelets in my blood thinking the platelets wee some foreign objects like viruses and infections so it destroy them . Platelets in blood help to thicken or congeil the blood incase you cut yourself you wont bleed away and can't stop the blood . Or if your platelet count is very low and say you fall, hit your head you could get internal bleeding etc. So the avg persons platelet levels should be between 150 to 400 ish. That's what's considered normal apperantly. Well I had mine go down as low as 2 . Very dangerous. So they got me on some steroids to calm my immune system and it seems to be doing ok at around the country of 135. So they aren't comcerned with me about that now. Anyway, these steroids cause weight gain due to Water retention etc etc. So losing weight has been harder after surgery and it was after surgery we discovered these platelet problems. But not related to Gastric Bypass surgery. Instead of me typing everything out and explaining so much that I have to explain and tell, I have created a YouTube channel so I could tell my story and progress through my channel. I will link everything below. Now, best thing would be is to watch my very first vlog here https://youtu.be/n3CLU2ghoiM My 2nd Vlog here to catch up on my story https://youtu.be/Y3MXkp-nQJ8 Or you can go to my channel and watch everything I ever uploaded here. https://m.youtube.com/user/Boosted00 But the 1st two Vlogs are my intro explanation videos to my weight loss journey and my 910 lbs life.... I'd appreciate if you all check out my YouTube channel Subscribe to me , comment like and share . Would be a great help. I will end it here for now, in the first vlog video I have pictures of when I use to look like ,I have a picture of the size of the Lymphedema groin tumor and things in the beginning of that first YouTube video along with the beginning stages of my story. I will be adding new content couple times a week and also continue explaining my story in a new video which will be Vlog#3 and 4 etc etc. Besides that I will be adding small side videos ,some funny some serious that I have filmed in the past 5 or so months. If you have any question feel free to ask away or just comment and I be happy to reply or just read comments. All Protein Shake Diet

I have been trying to do the same thing. Because I'm in an office full of eaters I've been having problems. But I think I'm going back to that as well. I stalled about 8 months after surgery (2/10/15) and between I stayed the same up until a couple weeks ago when I found out I gained 9 pounds! A reset is in order! But I need to eat fruit or veggies with it because I still get really hungry! Good luck with your journey!

    Feel like a failure

I fell off the wagon about a year and a half after surgery, before reaching goal. I struggled for several months. At first, I maintained my weight loss; when I saw that I gained 10 pounds, I knew I was in serious trouble. I felt ashamed of myself, and I did not want to contact my surgeon's office. After thinking it through, I accepted the fact I could not get back on track by myself, and I am not the only person to get in trouble with my program. I swallowed my pride and made appointments with my surgeon. the nutritionist and the psychologist at the Weight Center. They all praised me for coming back to the Center, and they were all very supportive. I have also started counseling, which has helped. I am doing well now. I preplan my menu to meet my guidelines and go to counseling every week. I have follow-up appointments set up at the Weight Center, I've also started going to Group Meetings at the Center. Don't feel you are alone. Reach out to your surgeon's office. They want to see you succeed and will provide support and advice. Best of luck to you.

    Pouch

Gastric bypass patients have pouches...whereas gastric sleeve patients have sleeves. A sleeve is not synonymous with a pouch. Anyhow, your sleeve will relax over time to accommodate a higher volume of food as it heals. This is the natural progression of things although it saddens some people. During the first few months postop I could tolerate about 3 ounces of food. Nowadays I'm almost 3 years out and can easily accommodate 8 to 10 ounces (more than half a pound). A fully matured sleeve's normal capacity is anywhere from 8 to 12 ounces. At this point I wouldn't worry about stretching your sleeve. Just focus on high protein foods and meeting your nutritional goals. Good luck to you.

    Still In A Coma!

It's not uncommon these days for people who have major health issues - short or long term - to be diagnosed with Post traumatic stress disorder. I think that complete sense of dislocation from everyone else goes a long way to explaining that. It's profound. Your op reminded me of the day my father died, in 1983. I was 22 and living at home as still at Uni. My father had a heart attack early in the morning, as we were all getting ready for work, school and Uni. I did CPR until the ambulance arrived and then travelled with him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. I still recall vividly my brother driving me back home through morning peak hour traffic - me still in my nightie, watching in disbelief as the world continued without hesitation. That's a very small experience c/w you awakening after 19 days to find people had been traumatised but had also moved on to an extent... like a glimpse at a world without you. Yet 30 years later, I was in that car, remembering the early morning winter daylight and my anger and disbelief. These experiences are immensely powerful. I think the answer is that it takes a long time to recover, you do but there will always be feelings that can be evoked very quickly. A little counselling will help, I'm sure. As will time. Good luck.
  24. I expressed my concern to my NUT at my first follow up after surgery. Having been in the hospital and only getting sugar free popsicles, I noticed that when they melted they were just clear liquid and a colored sludge. I know that prolonged use of sugar free anything is probably not healthy. She told me that she has been using sugar substitutes for over 10 years and has no problems with them. I am a little more reserved and I have decided that during this first 10-12 months I will "play ball" and make choices that put me in the best position to lose the most weight. But once I hit maintenance and adjust to eating to maintain, I will most likely opt for foods and beverages that has little to no artificial sweeteners. I would even be ok with some small amounts of regular sugar, though not in any beverages. I will do what is needed to lose, but adjust accordingly later, as I cannot believe that prolonged use of this crap is even close to healthy. Thats just my opinion.
  25. Hello Everyone, I recently had the sleeve on December 17,2016. This journey has been a long process. Initially my insurance required I do 6 months of documented weight-loss. Which I completed in September of 2016. However I was with True Results of Dallas weight-loss clinic which has now transition to the Nicholson clinic. Having the sleeve has been a struggle. My doctor has me on a clear liquid diet for 21 days . Hopefully when I go in on the 01/03/2017 I'll be cleared for pureed foods. Any suggestions other than Soups or broths or sugar free pops they give me acid reflux . Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App
