    Initial weight vs current weight

Highest weight: 330 goal weight: 195 (this was the brightest weight in normal weight range for my height on the BMI scale). current weight: 180 pounds. i was sleeved March 24,2021 so I’m almost at a year out. I’ve stalled for the last several weeks now. I tend to have long stalls and then sudden drops.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I am right there with you! Originally scheduled for 1/20, but postponed due to covid patients. I just found out on Friday that I am scheduled for 3/1. During the 4 weeks of not knowing what was going on, I was ready to throw in the towel. Thankfully I have maintained my weight. but need to restart the liver shrink diet ASAP!

    Accountability Buddy Wanted!

Have you had bariatric surgery? If so when, and what type? Can you fill in the stats in your profile - that can help other people see what stage you are at. Good luck with your weight loss journey anyway - however far along you are. 🤩

    Initial weight vs current weight

So true, I have not been here on the site for awhile but you have to be committed! That is not always easy...I went from 260 lbs to 155 lbs at my lowest weight. Than for 3 yrs at 164 to 165 then 169 and now 171. Food still tastes good, even though I do not get hunger. They should take your taste buds or some of them. LOL just kidding! I do understand the folks here that regain weight because food does taste good and it is easy to take a few bites too many or go back to old habits. Athough the pain and dumping syndrome are not worth it. Just being honest. My observation go for RNY or as I had Bilopantriac bypass are probably best for long term as I have some family members and friends who gained their weight back quickly by having the sleeve, but it is really about you...whatever you choose you have to be committed. I did not have a choice as I had kidney disease and this operation saved my life and I am scared to death to regain weight but I am committed. Why take 6 months of your life getting ready for the surgery and then go back to the old ways and regain the weight. Not to sound self righteous as I said but be committed! Good Luck to all!

    Initial weight vs current weight

Heavy weight: 396 lbs Intake weight: 375 lbs Surgery weight: 357 lbs Current weight: 276 lbs Goal weight: 240 lbs I'm 6 feet tall and was sleeved September 14, 2021. I am a week short of five months post-op and am still losing around 2 lbs a week on 1800-2000 calories a day. (I am also extremely active, so don't take those calories as written in stone.)

    COVID and Sleeve

I had a presumptive positive last month (couldn't get a test for love or money around here). I was sleeved in September. I ended up retaining water and felt bloated. I gained three pounds (and wigged out) but as soon as I got over it, that weight came right back off. I didn't lose my appetite, though, I just was too tired to eat.
  8. This process is a bit daunting. I had RNY surgery 2/3 so it's been 4 days. I am losing weight but am afraid to eat much or anything. My tummy is sore but tolerable. I'm trying to get in my protein via the Premier Protein 30g protein per shake deal but it's less than yummy, tbh. I am walking and expect to return to work on Wednesday (mostly desk job, no lifting). I am trying to learn my "new body's" way of telling me I'm hungry. Anyone else going through this struggle?

    Determining Goal Weight

To be clear, the excess weight would be (150-75) = 75 kg and 65% of that would be (.65x75) = 48.75 kg. (81.25 kg is 180 lbs)

    COVID and Sleeve

I was sleeved 9/21/21 and ended up getting COVID a couple of weeks ago. I was fully vaccinated and boosted, and had already lost nearly 70lbs from my highest weight, which I absolutely credit with my mild case and speedy recovery. While sick I had almost no appetite and lived off of protein shakes and soup. I tried to get my fluids in but did not track food or protein or steps or anything else. I rested and medicated. Since then I've bounced back just about 95%. I still have a small cough, but that could also be attributed to cold weather and asthma. It might be helpful to check in with your surgeon/dietician for some guidance if you are struggling with food tolerance/intake.
  11. So I didn't have this reaction personally but I was warned about it during my behavioral evaluation appointments before surgery. It's apparently pretty common to have some emotional upset after surgery. The rapid weight loss can release hormones stored in fat and in general it's a big change in your life which can trigger stuff. It's great you already reached out for help, hopefully you find some balance soon!

    Determining Goal Weight

Yes, milkshakes and soup (and other liquids) slide right through the pouch, but most of us define "slider foods" as highly processed foods, mostly carbs and sweets that almost dissolve in the mouth so by the time they get to your stomach they just don't fill you up like protein and vegetables do. I know I can be full from a dinner of protein but if I want to, I can still eat cake, cookies, pretzels, etc. I try really hard to eat only a very small amount of these and not frequently. "Excess weight" is defined as your highest weight minus your "ideal body weight" (ideal body weight is often quite low in the "healthy" BMI range, but some doctors will change "ideal body weight" to be a BMI of 25. So, most people say that with sleeve you can expect to lose 55-65% of your excess body weight whereas with bypass, it's likely 65-70% (estimates vary and these are only averages). So, if you weigh 150kg, and your ideal body weight is 75kg, then you could expect to lose about 65% of that 125 kg (the excess weight above ideal body weight): (150-75)x.65 or about 81.25kg, but again, this is only an average. You may lose more or less than that.

    Determining Goal Weight

So this is great information, and why I'm here. I was under the impression a slider food was a food that didn't stay in the stomach very long and so doesn't give you the benefit of pouch restriction, like a milkshake or...I don't know, soup. Also, while I'm here, what is "excess weight".and how is it calculated? Is it weight above healthy BMI?

    Determining Goal Weight

Yes, this is a great way to do portion control... at first. Eventually, you will be able to eat more, and it doesn't stop you from eating "slider foods", things like chips, cookies, etc that you can easily eat a lot of without feeling full. I also never had trouble losing weight; keeping it off was my problem, too. I can see how much I still have to be extremely diligent to ensure I don't gain this weight back.

    Determining Goal Weight

This is my fear, yes. My goal is to leave diets and counting and caution behind and adopt an intuitive and healthy lifestyle, using this bypass as a tool for portion control. Indeed, losing weight was never particularly difficult for me. My problem was keeping it off and not letting the entire endeavour consume me.

    Determining Goal Weight

I agree that these are scale related aberrations, but as long as you are aware of that, and of the daily fluctuations, and you are patient, it can be very satisfying to see the numbers go down. However, if you have a history of weight-related psychological issues, I can see that it might be necessary not to use the scale. You can always judge your weight by how your clothes fit. I'm not sure if DEXA scans are available in Spain, but that's a great way to check your lean mass to fat mass ratio.

    Determining Goal Weight

By approximation in theory but in practice I don't need to. There is no weight I could be, where eating 1000 Calories per day wouldn't cause weight loss. The other problem with weighing oneself is seen on this forum which is replete with hand wringing regarding the "three week stall" and many other issues which aren't issues at all with regard to fat loss. They are scale related aberrations.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Welcome to the club.. :), I am going on my 3rd stall.. I go through 2 weeks stalled, and the next week the weight comes off.. rinse and repeat. Everybody says that stalls are normal, and you just need to stick to the program, focus on water and protein. I am going to be changing up my diet to something more similar to what I was doing when I was losing weight steadily. And will be bumping up my daily exercise.
  19. Yes I did, massive buyers remorse. I chose this myself and what if it ruins the rest of my life ..... I am feeling better now that I am progressing onto real food and can look after myself. I was so wobbly that my husband had to take care of everything for 8 weeks. I see really good weight loss and that is so uplifting

@catwoman7 is on the mark. Where you end up is up to you but your body & life can throw curve balls at you. Often surgeons advise what seems a conservative achievable weight which is based on stats of where people are at 5 years out (a lose of about 65% of the weight you had to lose). Started at 91kg. Lowest 48.2kg Currently 50.2kg & nearing 3 years out. And post as often as you want & need. 🙂. We’re all happy to share our experience.

This is what my doc told me as well. I don’t know how tall u are nor your starting weight, but 60 lbs was essentially 60% of my excess weight at the start of it all, which is the AVERAGE percentage excess weight loss statistic he was basing this on. I ended up losing 120 lbs, so go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️ How much you lose is pretty much up to you. Good Luck! ❤️

    Determining Goal Weight

Treat BMR & BMI as guides only. We, the human race, have too many differences for there to be a single one size fits all approach (bad pun I know). Age, height, gender, weight loss history, genetics, frame, muscle mass, health issues, etc. could mean that one of those numbers may be right or wrong for us. But it’s good to have a starting point. Just be flexible & realise that you may be more or less than those numbers & be perfectly fit & healthy. Whether you weigh yourself or not is up to @Pollito. You know you best. But don’t be surprised if your surgeon or dietician does want to weigh you. You don’t have to look & could ask they not tell you what the scale says. My surgeon & GP weighs me every time but my dietician never weighed me. She said it was obvious enough to her I was losing weight. Doctors like facts & figures so they can monitor change. Hence why we have blood tests & our BP, heart rate, etc. are recorded.

When I was sleeved in 2016 I started at 315, and dropped about 25 lbs during the liver shrinking diet. It took me about 5 o 6 months to get down to 195. Unfortunately I screwed up and over the next several years put most of the weight back on. I had the bypass 11/17/21. I started at 293, got down to 278 after the liver shrinking diet, and as of this morning am just over 237.

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Dont focus on the stalls. Being almost 7 weeks out I can tell you ill go 3-10 days no weight loss then bam 3-4 days of loss then stall again. My Dr and Nutritionist bot have me weigh and measure once a week. It helps to not weigh daily - advice I also got from many seasoned people here. Focus on eating what you should, drinking fluids, and exercise. It does come off. Mine is slow but ive lost 33 pounds so far and im a month to the day put monger than you.
