The odd NSV's of a Paramedic

That's a great read thanks!! One of my favourite of your NSV's were the veins.. I'm a phlebotomist and when I did my training no one could feel or find my veins.. They were very well hidden.. Now I've lost 100lbs I too can't stop prodding and poking my nice 'new' prominent veins!! Amazing achievements! Well done!
  3. I recently decided if I tried something on and it was too big, I would put it in a bag and not back in the closet. As I was getting ready for work this morning, I realized I had very little to choose from. Guess, I'm going to have to do a little shopping. :smile2: Seems like I've always been obsessed with that number on the scale (which moves very slowly downward), but now I beginning to see physical changes as well. I love my band!

    Surprising NSV . . .

I was going out yesterday and wanted to take my bag I wear across my chest in case I found stuff to buy at garage sales . . . when I adjust the strap to wear it that way, I always do it ALL the way . . . and when I put the bag on - it was way to long! I had to slide the adjuster back a good FOOT! Now that may sound wierd - but to me is a GREAT sign that I'm smaller! Yea! Chris
  5. I bought two pairs of size 14 jeans today!!! I'm so excited. I cannot remember the last time I could wear a 14!! :-) yay!!

    Work NSV

Oddball work NSV this morning.... "power suit" vs. comfort. As a manager who often has to deal with a customers management, I was always VERY self conscience about clothing and accessories (expensive watch, jewelry, clothing, shoes, etc.) when I had meetings where I knew I had to project a certain authority. This morning I am having to deal with a great customer, but unfortunately have to give some not so great news. As I was getting ready today, I realized that I no longer feel the NEED to project a certain image with clothing. As an almost "normal sized" person, wearing more "casual" attire (slacks and a polo with the company logo) I don't look sloppy and not put together. YAY - NEVER saw this one coming!!

    Fun NSV!

Great NSV! I bet that made your day!
  8. I am still here also down 50 pds. I have stopped excerising the past 6 wks or so l,been so hot and putting a lot of hrs in at my job no excuse I know trying to get back on the treadmill. Other wise I have gotten a lot of good feedback on my weightloss. My parents keep saying how pretty I am lol. I went from a size 22 to a 12 can't ever remember being that size so that is really a big nsv. Keep up the good work everyone.

    Oh Ya Nsv!

I tried a bath for the first time in YEARS last week. I'm still displacing a lot of water, but I did manage to get in the tub with more than just a few teaspoons of water sharing the tub with me. LOL GREAT NSV! I can't wait to join you on this one. I love baths and have been relegated to the shower for all of my adult life (unless in a hot tub.....bliss!).
  10. So I went to a medical conference this past weekend and WOW! When I flew at Christmas I was able to buckle ,y belt and have maybe 1-2inches of slack. This weekend...... Tons of slack! Ignore my scarf all over my lap ....????

    Expectations

Started at 238. BMI 40 16 day preop....lost 22 pounds doing 3 Protein shakes/day and unlimited leafy green veggies Months 1-3.....lost 30 pounds. Always Protein first, then some veggies. Minimum 60g protein/64 oz Water everyday. Months 4-6.....lost 26 pounds. Same as above but started eating more fruit and whole grains as I got close to surgeon's goal. Months 7-9....lost 20 pounds and have maintained between 137-141 (BMI 23) for almost 3 months. This is about 10 pounds below my personal goal. I still have a 30-40g protein smoothie everyday and eat healthy balanced meals and Snacks including protein, veggies, fruit and whole grains. Mostly avoid white carbs (Pasta, rice, bread, sugar) but still indulge occasionally. I Eat when I'm hungry (about every 3 hours) and just until satisfied, not full. I never tracked or measured my food but a couple "spot checks" of my calories showed about 1000 calories at 2 months, 1200 calories at 6 months and maintaining with 1400-1600 calories. I am diligent about taking my Vitamin supplements and my bloodwork has been great. I have a physical job and very active lifestyle, so I haven't done any formal exercise. Basically just living a normal life at this point. My biggest advice, though is to stay off the scale (unless you are aware of and accept the fact that stalls are normal) and don't compare yourself to others. "My way" is certainly not the norm, and may not work for someone else. Just stick with your plan, find what works for YOU, be patient, and enjoy your NSV's.

Stupid me fell last night. For those of you who don't know, I am handicap and walk with crutches or a walker. Well last night when I was washing up for bed I was washing my hands and didn't dry them. That was where the stupid me comes in. Black eye this morning and a little swelling but the swelling is mostly gone now. My kids in class today thought it was WAY COOL! Thank God for make up!! Now for the NSV!! I have fallen a lot in the past and have had to have help getting up. Well, last night I GOT UP MYSELF!! just crawled to my bed and pushed up and I DID IT!! I will take the black eye and tender back for this NSV!! -70LBS SURE HELP A LOT!! Here is a picture of it!!

    1 month ago today!

Well had my band placed 1 month ago today and I'm down 19.2 lbs. My bmi for the first time in years was 29. Its sad that I was excited to be considered overweight and not obese. NSV.
  19. For the first time I have NSV's to report. I have moved down to a size 16 pants and I am jogging 20 consecutive minutes on the treadmill. I am so happy to finally have somethin to share. Now I am working towards ONEderland before 4th of July and under my pre-pregnancy weight with my daughter before my 30th Birthday (15lbs)

    7 week update

I had my "6 week" checkup today - just one day shy of 7 weeks post-op. I've had several NSV's during this time - especially in the last few days. I asked the dietician to take my measurements again today. They were originally done when I first saw the surgeon on May 18 - about 2 months before my surgery. All measurements are in inches. Body measurement May 18 August 29 Upper Arm 16 13 Forearm 11 9 Chest 46 43 Waist 52.5 44 Hips 61 57 Upper Thigh 33 28 Mid Thigh 29 22 Calf 19.5 19.5 The only measurement that did not change is my calf. I can't believe how much my waist and thighs have changed though! I have gone from a size 28W pants to 24W. My tops have gone from 3/4x to 1x. I am able to walk greater distances without loosing my breath (about 1/2 mile actually), stand for longer periods of time (about 1/2 hour) and take about 30 stair steps without loosing my breath. I couldn't do any of that before surgery. My back is feeling better, as well as my knees. The actual weight loss isn't as much as I was hoping for, but it's still not bad. I'm currently in my 2nd stall. I was cleared today for solids and to start with the personal trainer at the healthplex (2 personal trainer meetings and 6 month membership at the healthplex was included with my fee for the surgery). I'm currently waiting for the healthplex to call me to set up the meeting and start the membership. The dietician today said that in another month and half I should start feeling normal again - like I never had surgery. I told her that I already feel that way - with the exception of some occasional itching in my stomach area from the healing incisions. She was a bit surprised by that. The surgeon looked at the one incision that bled a bit the other day and confirmed that it still looks good and is not infected. In fact, he said they all looked good.
  21. Well, good for you! I am glad that you had a successful day, great NSV!
  22. BSV- big scale victory!!! I've made it to TWO-TERVILLE (such an odd name) and never going back!!! This happened anout a week ago but I kept forgetting to take a picture. Yes, I wanted to take a picture of my scale! lol I haven't been in the 200's since I was probably 15 or 16. I still feel like such a big girl because I have the same shape but just smaller. A fair amount of family and friends know about my surgery but none of them know my numbers so I feel like this is the only safe place to share. NSV- You can actually see my dimples when I smile now! NSV- My father and I have now lost about the same amount of weight (around 115lbs). He's not a WLS but lost a lot with Atkins years ago, gained half of it back. Then his doctor put him on a plan called Bella Nutra. He lost what he gained back and then some. I really hope he can keep it off because he's almost 60 and I really worry for him. There's a lot of obesity and heart disease in our family. Anyway, this is the skinniest I've seen him in my entire life so I had to get a picture of our accomplishment.
  23. Just bought a pair of 16 jeans and a bra 3 cup sizes smaller!!! I was a 22 six weeks ago!! Yay!!
  24. here is a odd NSV i just noticed day before yesterday before surgery i could not put on my socks..i was too large to do this and yep hub had to do it...well i can now..but i noticed the socks the socks were on my ankle and when i went to take them off i noticed they were not on my (cankle) like a sausage wrap the sock was on properly and no stretch/too tight marks when it was removed that is what i wanted to share.
