    Pigment of my skin

Is it looking actually pigmented, as if you were tanning, or is it more of a dusky-looking shade? All I can figured, if you were sleeved within the last few weeks, is that maybe it's old bruising making it's way to the surface, although generally gravity would pull it downward. Interesting!

    Square One??

If you are still on mushies, I'd just finish healing before going to a diet such as Atkins. The first 6 weeks are for healing. I lost weight the first week post op. Then weeks 2-4 nothing. Sure I was frustrated but I wasn't eating enough calories during my healing. Week 5 I finally got up above 1100 calories and I started losing again. If you want to try it try upping your calories. Some people don't lose if they eAt to little

    new lapbanders mother

Yeah she shouldn't worry about how much she is losing yet--it is too early in the game for that. The first 6-8 weeks are for healing and the 1-2 lb avg loss a week doesn't start until you are properly restricted which could take up to 3-5 fills. Plus everybody is different--some lose rather fast and others are turtles but what is nice about the band is that there is no window of opportunity. It is perfectly fine to take as long as you need to get to goal. Good luck to your daughter on her band journey. ~Liz~ 03/10/06 241/163/160 5'7''
  4. I was sleeved in January of '12. I've had ups and downs but nothing that you could point to and say it's related to the sleeve. Normally I'm active. I teach yoga for plus sizes, work, etc. In the summer of '16 (as far as I can guess a time) I began to feel fatigue. It was easy to become frustrated, I would forget small things. I had to get prescription glasses in August. I had at least three "colds" from October to January. January 24th I was admitted to the hospital from the ER due to excessive abdomen and chest pain, fever, headache & nausea. They found I had an enlarged spleen, a "blockage" in my intestinal tract, and of most concern my red and white blood cell counts are really low. I was depleted in magnesium, Iron, B Vitamins and potassium. I hadn't even noticed but my left leg which had been slightly bigger than my right for over a year now is now, minimally closer to 4" in diameter larger in the calf, more on the thigh. I've had test after test after test, the results are still coming in. I've been in the hospital a week and I'm feeling better than when I was admitted to be certain. That's not really saying much unfortunately. My question is not to ask anyone to diagnose me. I do wonder if anyone else has experienced these symptoms. What it was, etc. Mention to my doctor that someone else with the sleeve experienced x,y,z, etc. Thank you for your time! Sent from my A0001 using the BariatricPal App

This friday... and the mental battle

I had so many of your feelings and fears. Very similar. I felt like I wrote your blog. The first few weeks after surgery I was very careful to not direct my anger toward my family members. It wasn't my husband's or my children's fault/choice/or decision to have this surgery. YOU must be clear with your self that this surgery is only for you. Because if it is not- you will struggle more. Every time you get mad at your husband - the urge to eat will be strong. You have to do the surgery - only for you. Or it won't be as successful as it could be. You really can't let yourself "wonder" if this is going to work for you. You HAVE to make it work for you. The surgery is only a tool that will give you a small window of time to break your bad habits and start your new life with better behavior techniques. Good luck and counseling with the right behavior therapist will absolutely help with your addiction. I enjoy sugarfree gum like there is no tomorrow. It really helps me with the head hunger and the mouth hunger. And it really helps with my addiction to food.

    What the??!!

It is true. You do have to do your part. But it is difficult when you are not feeling the restriction. I can understand that. It is frustrating. I was in a similar situation for weeks. I felt there was nothing I couldn't eat. That period feel over the holidays which made it worse. I was grateful that I didn't gain weight. Sometime in January it was like I woke up and decided that I had not been putting weight loss on the top of my priority list. Whether I felt the restriction or not, I knew I had to step back on the band wagon and get in the game. I went back to the basics, started exercising, and forcing others to work around my schedule instead of the other way around. That was the beginning of taking charge again and losing weight. Add to that another fill and I'm back in the ball game again. I know it is a difficult thing to accept, but sometimes we have to admit that we are our own worst enemy. Our choices daily represent the importance we place on our goals. At 7 cc in your band, I suspect that although you can eat a lot of things, you are limited in the quantity you can eat. Compare what you can eat now with what you could eat before your birthday. Is there a difference? If there is a difference then something is working. Be grateful that you can eat a wide variety of things. I can eat a hamburger too and I enjoy treating myself to a small hamburger once a week. I can still lose weight if the hamburger is in my rules. Find another tool to work with your band. I personally use Weight Watchers which works great with the band because it encourages you to keep track of what you eat. If not already doing so, make time each day to exercise. I love to walk and take a 3-mile walk daily or I'll go to the gym for an hour if the weather is bad. Find the right exercise for you. But I believe I'm talking to the choir here. You know what to do. You already have inside you what you need to make it happen, and I'm not just talking about the band. God Bless!

My Pre Opt Diet Starts Tues :/

I guess surgeons everywhere do different diets. Mine is 3 weeks, 800 calories a day which includes 2 protein shakes a day (one for breakfast, 1 for a snack) I was lucky that my hospital was doing a study for the 3 week diet to test out 2 different oils. So I haven't cooked in a week and a half. They will be taking a small sample of my bowels that are being removed anyway and a tiny sample of my liver. Do some surgeons make y'all do a full liquid diet weeks prior?

How long do you wait in between fills?

My doctor's office does the fills every 4 weeks. Good luck Monday. It took me about 4-5 fills to get to point of not being so hungry.

    Getting sleeved in 6 days!

I'm 12 days post-op, and wanted you to know surgery was not bad. I had absolutely no nausea afterwards. They put Zofran in my iv and I was fine. I was driving and going out in a week. I've not had to take anything for nausea since I've been home either. You'll be fine! Keep us posted. 17 lbs gone in 10 days for me...

    Day one on pre-op diet.

I was instructed to go on a two week liquid pre-op diet. They do however, include a very stick pre-op solid foods diet that I can choose from if I absolutely can't stick the liquids only. So far I have only had a tomato. Not bad I'd say. Only 13 more days to go...

    Not eating enough

My RN coodinator told me that the range for Protein is 60-100 grams a day. She said the lower is for a smaller woman (im 5'1) and the 100 is for a man who needs more. She also told me to get out 10 3 oz dixie cups each morning and have three oz of Protein shake every hour or so and by the end of the day you would have the amount needed. I am only 3 days out from surgery and cant get all 10 in but have been gettinf about 45. Hoping to increase as i go. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not eating enough

I'm right with you on not getting your protein in. I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm stuggling big time. I'm lucky if I get 40 gms of protein a day and as for water, I'm only getting about 32 oz a day. I usually start my day with a premier protein drink which I only can drink 2/3 of one. I then start sipping my water about 40 minutes later but I'm still full from the shake so I dont' get much water in. I usually have lunch about 4 hours later and then I'm full for the rest of the day. I have to force some yogurt or cottage cheese down but that still doesn't bring my protein intake up much. I'm getting frustrated and hoping I'll be able to eat more at some point. Oh, also strugging with the b-vitamins. They sour my stomach. ARGH!!!

    Sleep

I slept propped up in a pillow nest, in my bed LOL! I had 3-4 under my head and shoulders, one king pillow on each side which I layed my arms on. I sleep better in my bed, in pitch dark silence, with my husband : ) It took me a week to sleep okay on my side, and then it was with a pillow pressed tightly against me for pressure support.

    Age

I'm 70 & decided to have the Sleeve. I'm on oxygen & a CPAP. I'm hoping I will be able to get rid of the CPAP but not sure about the oxygen. I have COPD because I grew up around smokers. I've never smoked a day in my life. But, like most overweight people (about 150#) I have a lot of pain & hate to go anywhere. I was wondering if there are any "old" people out there who have had the surgery & how you are doing with it. My cardiologist/internist has had other patients that have had this surgery & have done very well with it. I don't have my surgery date yet. Hopefully I will have a date this week or next.
  19. Hawaii was amazing. Sun, sand, surf and great friends. Lots of pictures. These will be my last summer pics being the current pre-op me. So my "before" photos will have a nice landscape! Actually it was a very informative vacation as I went with my friend who had the surgery over a year ago. We were able to honestly talk about the ups and downs of the road she has travelled as well as what to expect. It also allowed my hubby a chance to talk with hers to see how we felt...typical guy talk over beers right! But what I really enjoyed was being able to see how she lives now with the weight gone. I watched her eat off the kids meno or the appetizer menu. She still had treats - she admits she gained on the trip but was right back on track after. That's what we are supposed to do....enjoy in moderation. I start my pre-op diet next Thursday which means I'm just over 3 weeks away from this. Ironically my diet and nutrition appointment is the week after when I see my surgeon so I was feeling a bit lost however that same wonderful friend is pulling her stuff and sending it to me- I love that girl! So this weekend I am having my last BBQ for a while with all e trimmings. I am going to celebrate my up coming last "diet" (when did you ever think you would say that). I am going to revel in where I've been, where I am, and where I am going! Stay tuned.....the grumbling you hear will be my stomach!

    Doctor "C" Question

I thought I read where were you banded. I see now it says WHEN--- I was banded Nov 18 but did not get my first fill for 9 weeks post op. Dr. Ortiz said I could get f/u care but he did not want my first fill until 8 weeks post op and by the time I called it was 9 weeks. I was 258 originally and down to 244 with the preop diet of shakes for a week and then back to 255 when I got banded.

    Hello....newbie from aus

Hi Leeanne, I'm another Sydneysider. I'm not banded yet -Bday is 03/12/07 so not too long to go. Where were you banded? 4 weeks on liquids, my doctor only said 2 and then mushies. Hope to hear from you. Danna

    So Frustrated!

I am counting the shakes as part of my liquid. But my last meeting with my Dr he said I should be losing 3-5 lbs a week. That was 2 weeks ago. I've lost 2 lbs since then. Again I was losing more weight on the pre-op diet than I am now, I'm eating less, I could have one lean cuisine dinner at night. The only difference between now and then is getting enough fluid in. I just don't understand. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. @a new begining Im only 5 weeks out but I'm struggling as well. Where in NJ are you if you don't mind me asking?

    7 days!

I had my surgery on December 26th 2007 and have lost 85 lbs. Good luck and enjoy your journey. The best advise I can give you is to journal everything you eat with the calories (or use weight watchers points) and exercise 6 days per week. Get moving, the more you move the better you will be able to move.
