  1. So sorry to hear your family didn't support the band to sleeve revision. Maybe with some time and education about it all, they will support it. I would ask my parents and spouse to go talk to your surgeon. With all of the issues you are having with the band, you really should get it taken out. My surgeon told me I needed to take my band out or I would eventually end up in the ER having serious complications. Had my band removed 08/2015 and the sleeve done 01/2016. I've lost 42 pounds so far and I feel so much better since I had the band removed. Good luck!

    Hair loss after revision?

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences and for the encouragement! Revision is something I plan to do, regardless of the outcome for my hair. My physical and emotional wellbeing are much more important than my locks. I just want to be as mentally prepared as I can be going in and wanted to hear from those that have been there already.
  3. I had a band in 2006. Lost about 40 pounds and was doing ok with it. Bnad slipped in 2014. Was removed and rebanded Jan 2014. I Ive had nothing but misery with 2nd band! Gained almost 15 pounds since 2014. Nausea, food getting stuck, port pinching. Im going for consult to revise from band to sleeve. My current BMI is only 31 though. Wondering if insurance will decline? Im now pre-diabetic, along with severe sleep apnea and other comorbidities that qualified me for the band to begin with. Did you experience any problems with approval?

    GERD, Acid Issues Post OP

I would agree that you should try and switch to a different PPI or adjust your dose. I'm 2 years post sleeve and developed horrible GERD that is not controlled by medication. I'm on Protonix (40mg) before Breakfast, Dexilant (60mg) before dinner, Carafate (before breakfast, lunch and dinner and bedtime), and zantac (before bed) and it doesn't control my symptoms. I also have acid/bile rise into my throat and wake up choking on acid numerous times a week. I'm currently waiting for approval to revise to bypass which I'm promised will eliminate my GERD. Definitely try different medications/combinations. Hope you find something that works for you and that you get some relief!

Submitted to Blue Shield of California!

So i just called and my insurance said that my revision has been approved!!!!!!!! PTL! I'm still in shock and waiting for the official call from my doctor.! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I believe he said it based on her history. He did her lap band but recommended the Bypass. Now 9 yrs later she wants a revision so of course he is suggesting the Bypass. I think he said it with good intentions. Either way I support her and know she will do whats best for herself. Hopefully I can make the same decision and soon.

    Reversal

Im sorry for your friend. I'm familiar with a lot that she's going through. I know I'm far away, but my surgeon is amazing! He has done quite a lot of revisions and reversals. I've been through tpn, etc. It took so many years and doctors before I found him. Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul, Scripps La Jolla San Diego , CA. I hope your friend can get the help she needs❤️
  8. I am a band-to-bypass revision patient, too! I have been using rogaine for a couple of years due to thin, fine hair and I was really worried about hair loss after surgery. I actually had a 2-part surgery because my band was removed a year ago last December and my bypass wasn't until April 2015. I had expected hair loss right around the time of my revision because it was 16 weeks post-op, which is when I lose my hair, but I didn't have much. After revision, however, at exactly 16 weeks I lost a lot of hair. I had been taking Biotin and using rogaine up to that point, and I do believe that it helped my hair come back much faster than it has in the past. Not only that, but it's now wavy! That was an unexpected perk! Honestly, that short period where I had "bad hair" was completely worth it, though. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Congratulations on taking back control of your health. You won't be disappointed.
  9. I had a revision to mgb April 23 last year. Everything is great, I'm about 7lbs from my goal and very happy with my decision !

    Making Myself Crazy!

Thanks but I'm scheduled with Dr. Esquerra for my DS revision on Thursday, May 26th.
  11. I revised from a band to a sleeve and it was night and day. I was successful with the band but had many issues. The sleeve is what I'd hoped the band would be - eat a small amount, get very full, stop eating. I lost 30 more pounds with the sleeve. I also don't get hungry so it makes watching my intake strictly about changing my habits and not about hunger. Well worth switching. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. Hello. I'm new to the community and just had my endoscopy done today in preparation for my revision from Band to RNY. The result shows that I have ulcers I have to go back in a week to get the results of the biopsy but I am curious to know if anyone out there was diagnosed with ulcers during the pre-op screenings and if it affected your ability to be cleared for weight loss surgery?

    DS or GB?

I wanted rny, but my surgeon said I would have a better chance of getting the weight loss I need with DS. My best friend lost 150 lbs with RNY 10 years ago, but has gained most back. She is having a revision to DS. At her endoscopy her doc said her hole from her pouch to her small intestine had gotten too big and too much food was getting through. I've done a lot of research, and I'm excited that I will be getting my DS next month. I think the malabsorbtion is what I need and I plan on being diligent about getting my Protein and supplements.

    Pouch stretching

There are so many points of view on this topic written by physicians. The best thing you can do is not freak out but follow the plan. Stay away from carbonation and eating and drinking together as well as overeating. In the beginning it is difficult to overeat because your body will simply cause you to vomit, in the future you are more apt to push yourself further because something tastes good. We all do it once in a while but it is not good and if you do it all the time for every meal it can become a big problem. Many times people who have had revision from bypass to bypass again it's because they did not follow the plan, learned to eat around or overeat consistently. They did not follow the rules thereby causing them to gain their weight back, they will blame it on a stretched pouch but that likely is not the reason for the revision. To eat around you have to be grazing....eating small quantities all day. I have done it once or twice and boy do I regret it when I do. It's usually a holiday and I immediately get back on the plan.

    So many questions about MGB

You all should go check out the forums at bariatricfacts dot org. Just remember that docs are in sales just like a car salesman and most won't sell you something they don't do so be careful and do your own research thoroughly. I'm a Molina band revision to sleeve revision to DS this Thursday and I'll be resleeved to reshape the tummy also. Sent from my PhabulousPhablet!

    Making Myself Crazy!

Did you decide on a surgery and surgeon? I'm curious as to why you didn't choose a revision to DS if you've already got the sleeve? Do you have GERD? Sent from my PhabulousPhablet!
  17. Hi all, i just had my band removed after 6 years of difficulty with it. I am hoping to get the sleeve in October but have concerns about my insurance. 1. I currently have a BMI under 40 (38) but suspect that will climb now that I am unbanded. I have been going to my dr monthly since February. He says I need at least 6 months of visits and should have at least 3 of those demonstrate a BMI over 40. He believes that my history of BMI and failure with the band will work in my favor when we apply for approval. Does anyone have any feedback on this? Do you agree or disagree? 2. Do you know if NYSHIP requires anything else other than a psych eval? I have seen references to nutrition visits and other tests. Do I even need the psych for a revision surgery? 3. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. I simply know I can not keep weight off without help and want to make this approval happen sooner than later. I have a family history of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and degenerative disc disease, but my dr. thinks this will not matter at all. Thank you in advance!

    May 24 Surgery Day

Hi @@gina171 I'm not pup, but I am also getting the RNY. I hope you don't mind my input. When I started this whole thing, i wanted the sleeve. I was set on getting that one over the bypass. After going to all my required classes, i found out that the RNY is better for people who are diabetic and people who live sweets. I am not diabetic, but I have been borderline once upon a time. I personally love cakes, ice cream, Cookies, chocolate, etc.. I'm not too fond of candy. But I can't seem to get enough of cakes. I learned that your body will reject sugar and eventually I will learn to stay away from sweets altogether to avoid getting sick. This is the main reason I chose it. The second reason I chose it, is because a lot of people are getting revisions to the bypass. I thought I should just get the RNY to avoid that incase it does happen to me. My doctor said either one is safe and is good choice. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

    Deciding the Band

I had lapband in 2011. Did very well with it. Got to goal, but as others have said, had complications and had to have it removed. I revised to bypass at the end of March. My doctor is revising many of his band patients due to complications. It was a great tool when it wasn't causing problems, but it doesn't seem to be a long term surgery without having additional surgeries later on down the road. And this is not to bash the band, because I loved it when it wasn't causing problems, but more of an observation of what I've seen and experienced. Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

    Any Long Island sleevers?

I'm on Long Island, but I had lapband revision to bypass. I used Dr Ahmad both times. Two of my friends used Dr Alam. Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App
  21. I had a revision on May 17 2016, also from band to sleeve. I can drink fluids but I have to do it slow (like a turtle), so I'm doing it every hr almost, to get fluids in. Can you try that method.? We both are only 5 days postop, and everyone says it will take time. Hope you feel better!
  22. Ok, I had no idea food can get stuck also with bypass... I had band and that was happening to me a lot... I just had to walk around, maybe with my arms up, unbutton my bra, spit the slime and wait for it to pass. I am just revised to bypass so haven't had food yet for it to get stuck but that's definitely not a good feeling. Hope you feel better

    Hair loss after revision?

Iam 7 months band to bypass revision. Never lost any hair with my band but started losing hair 4 months bypass still losing some but slowed down hair much thinner not used any sprays or color ups
  25. I've been following this forum for a while but this is my first post. I was banded in 2006 and everything was great for a while. I lost about 125 lbs and kept it off for almost 6 years. Then I started having days where my band was too tight and I couldn't eat anything, and if I did eat, I couldn't keep it down. Other days I could eat with almost no restriction. I also started having terrible reflux, to the point I would sleep propped up and still wake up with acid coming out of my nose. Went to the doctor and found out my band had slipped. Took the Fluid out to let the band readjust. In that time I had several life changing events happen and I ate my feelings. I ended up gaining 40ish lbs back. Started having regular fills but still wasn't getting any restriction, gained another 45 lbs. I had another barium swallow done recently and found out my band has slipped again. So now I've gained back 85 of the 125 lbs lost and my band has slipped for the second time. I've now stared the process of band to bypass revision at the beginning of next year! I'm very excited and can't wait to start having a normal relationship with food again. I've done a ton of research and have been able to find answers to all of the questions I've had...except one. What is hair loss like after bypass as compared to after lap band? I have thin, fine hair and this is a concern for me. Not enough to make me shy away, but still enough that I want to be prepared for it. I didn't lose any hair with the lap band, or if I did it wasn't enough for me to notice. I have considered starting supplements for growth. I know they won't stop the process of hair loss if it's going to happen, but I'm hoping that if I can get some new sprouts growing maybe the loss won't be as noticeable. So, the short version of the question is, how did hair loss after revision surgery compare to hair loss from the initial procedure?
