You have the right to medical privacy. It's none of their business. Once people see your rapid weight loss they will speculate that you have cancer or had bariatric surgery. It's still none of their business and you don't owe them an explanation.

Ah Sweet Taoz, if I could get,to Aussie land I'd give you a big hug and kiss on the cheek. I do recall somebody saying the more weight She lost the more scrawnier dear Aunt Flo got to where they were both normal. Now this was clear back maybe last December, forgot her name but maybe a cause for hope? Oh I hope she moves out for at least a month. I would have answered sooner but another posted me a PM, no not the Prime Minister,a private message, wanted an ecplaination of all my non- surgical trials, so I tried to tell her all about it. I lived it and st8ll sounds crazy to me. Bryan my son,is complainng I've been on Bariatric Pal too long today. I'm still at 80% power, and like the lady, who told her bank she can't be overdrawn when she has a book of cheques left, it didn't seem that bad to me.

I'd get a consultation with a dietitian who has some experience with pregnancy post-bariatric surgery:) I seem to recall Iron was stressed during pregnancy, calcium, a good balanced diet. -
Happy Mothers Day, my bariatric pals! What special things do you have planned? We celebrated early this year because tomorrow is reserved my FIl's 95th birthday. I made deconstructed Crab & Shrimp Louis -- an old classic salad that originated on the west coast -- for my parents for lunch today. It was great, and would be lovely for a ladies luncheon type of event (or for entertaining your almost 80 year old parents ). I tried two different dressing recipes hoping to find a favorite, but the reviews were split. A lot of prep, but worth it! Here's a pic after prep, but I served it on the patio. I had iced tea as planned. Now I am having a glass of chardonnay.

We all have the issue of regaining once we let our guard down. Bread, pizza and high carbs is what put me back on this roller coaster. I had to get on this website to remind myself of smaller portions and low carbs. Once we get down a few pounds then we will get renewed strength to keep going and get this done. I started back a month ago and am down 10 pounts which is a real moral booster to get this going. Good luck and keep smiling.

Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS

Wonder if her aunt would suggest, they take the stamples out after my RnY. Shoot,, I'm not planning any more surgeries on the same area. FYI,i could have had the plate and 12 screws removed from below my right shoulder several years ago.,My,ortho said so.,,,,, 1 This would be additional surgery? Answer Yes but I could do it on an Ambulatory basis this time. 2. Would I have a surgical wound to recover from? Answer Yes I'd excise the old scar and then resuture it there. 3. Would it be any stronger for you doing this? Answer No not a bit stronger. Told him to put his danged scalpel away, it can stay as it is, if someone would murder me(don't my mind run to weird thoughts) and throw me in a vat of lye they would be able to identify me since I no longer have my natural teeth. Another weird FYI, in the state of Ohio a dentist cannot legally return extracted teeth to you, even though they were yours? They are considered slightly radioactive, a biohazard and they have to be disposed of in such a manner. My son (the Tomkitten, named this because my 1st pen name on Bariatric Pal was kkkatlady) has a weird detition pattern in his upper jaw, he has 1 lateral incisor,on the right and 3 on the left instead of the average 2-2, I wish I had told them to make my upper denture the same instead of the traditional. I think its cute, but then doesn't every mother feel that way about their babies? -

I asked my surgeon this and he said there is no medical reasoning to take it out at the time of bariatric surgery. For them to do it, it would have to be medically necessary. I am sorry for the OP that you had to go through this. I fear this as well. -

The website is WLSVitamins and they’re for Bariatric patients. I’ve done a ton of research on doctors and they advise not to go to GNC for multivitamin because they do not give enough for us. I brought the B12(Very Important), Folic acid, calcium citrate, iron and the multivitamins. Studies shows that taking the right vitamins and protein will avoid hair loss. I love my hair so I can’t let that damage[emoji23]. I will message you once I’m able to use my phone to cheer you on for the next day. -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
Creekimp13 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
Reading about bariatric surgery on the net.....reminds me a lot of reading about homeschool on the net. There are a lot of parallels. Both are often considered extreme solutions that are not widely accepted by the people who could utilize them. Proponents tend to be very polarized in their views. Critics, too. There's a lot of ignorance in public perception, and a lot that could be done to help demystify the process....but people tend to be kinda closeted about what they're doing.....particularly people who have a more moderate experience and are not balls to the wall aggressive about pursing their goals. Most of the people who are making a lot of noise in both communities...are having a lot of success and it's working for them. They are also very driven to particular lofty goals. (think...the homeschool parents who MUST send their kid to an Ivy League school) People who are having more moderate success...tend to be quieter, and disappear from communities shortly after they arrive. Their stories are not as big a part of the public discussion. And it's a shame....because those voices represent far more people than the louder folks who push themselves to extremes. It's sad because it creates insanely unrealistic and competitive standards and less room for honesty, vulnerability and support. Do I blame them for leaving? Nope. (and incidentally, I know I've done very well statistically so far...and I know I've been enthusiastic and loud about it...I'm not innocent of the very thing I'm complaining about...I'm just trying to become more aware) I think we can do better to honor the experiences of all involved....and help create a more realistic, inclusive, WHOLE picture of the process and various results of all community members. Voices that embrace balance, moderation and acceptance of multiple different approaches and success levels....get silenced in favor of sports metaphors, "winners", "what works the fastest" and obsessive perfectionism. This concerns me on a lot of levels. At least there are no kids involved here. -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?

I really thought I could just bite my tongue on this thread and let it go. God knows I've tried. But I'm gonna open my mouth again...LOL. *sigh* About 80% of us...will lose about half (or a little more than half) of our excess weight and keep it off for five years. If we do this in the bariatric surgery world....we are considered successful. A very small percentage of us will lose over 80% of their excess body weight. And an even smaller number will hit goal. About 20% of us....one in five people on here....won't even lose 50% of our excess weight. We will "fail" This is just factual. "Should we accept our best shot and not be bothered if we don't make goal?" Yes...because accepting reality is important and healthy. If we are doing our best...that's really all we can do. Our best...by definition...is our best. There are plenty of people who do their absolute best and want it so badly they'd sell a kidney for it......who never make goal. But the vast majority of us significantly improve and the improvements last. And that's huge. And worth celebrating. Perfection be damned. Obesity is complex and people are affected by surgery in vastly different ways. People's individual physiology, heredity, health, natural set point, chronic conditions, necessary medications, hormones, and a dozen other factors play a part in how successful they are. A few of us WILL be wildly successful. (lookin at Jenn, jess, mike, etc....lol) MOST of us will land on one side or the other of losing 60% of our excess weight. And a few of us won't ever lose 50% of our excess weight...even if we try very hard. I'm not suggesting that there is no room for improvement. Or that we shouldn't try, accept help, keep trying hard to optimize our results. I'm just sayin....the facts are what they are. Reality is part of the equation. No amount of "not accepting less" can help in some cases. Sometimes you're dealt the cards you're dealt. I'm not pissing on anyone's hopes and dreams or disrespecting their input by pointing to these statistical facts and ask that everyone's experience be respected. I genuinely hope that every person here makes the goals they wish... and has lasting results. But in the much more likely eventuality that we end up being a wide spectrum of successes....I think it's important to honor all outcomes, -

Had mine out 15 years ago. Have never missed it:) Some folks will have sensitivities and issues digesting certain things after losing their gallbladder. I didn't. Noticed very little difference at all. But yeah, bigtime....gallbladder stones and kidney stones are very common problems after bariatric surgery. Gotta keep an eye out for both. Ruptured gallbladders can be fatal. Liver infections and Pancreatitis resulting from a chronic gallbladder issue can be life threatening, too. Very important to get your follow up labs done, and not ignore new symptoms. -

I had my bariatric bypass done about 7 months ago. I have lost about 85 pounds and everything has gone really well except that I still have trouble eating certain foods. A few days ago I suddenly got very severe stomach pain. First I thought that I just had too much to eat but the pain got really bad really quickly and I had to be rushed to the nearest hospital. It turned out that I had developed gallbladder stones and a few of them had traveled to my pancreas and caused a severe inflammation. My gallbladder was full of stones and had to be surgically removed. My surgery was 2 days ago and still my liver and pancreas blood work numbers are really bad. I am writing this to you to warn other people. I learnt that rapid weight loss often causes gallbladder stones and because of this surgeons used to remove gallbladder everytime they did bariatric bypass. Now since my gallbladder has been removed it is going to be somewhat harder for me to digest fatty food (not that I ate so much of them anyway) and I am afraid that a few of these sones are still floating around inside of me and may cause problems if they land on a place where they can block a way to pancreas etc. The pain associated with this problem was the worst pain I have every experiences. I gave birth to two boys without making a sound but I was screaming all the way to the hospital a few days ago. Please be smarter than me and ask your surgeon to remove your gallbladder during the bypass if possible. This organ is not necessary and can cause huge problems for you if you lose the weight fast like I did and can even cause life treatening infections in vital organs like liver, and heart. I am not writing this to scare people unnecessarily but to educate all of you so you don' t have to experience this.

Down in the dumps, wls diet sucks!
Danny Paul replied to Tierra T Tij's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sad fact is, many don't look at bariatric surgery like they do other surgeries. If someone told their friends or family that they were getting breast implants or other cosmetic surgery the overwhelming majority would not have a negative comment. If someone told their family and friends that they would be having surgery for a medical condition like removing their tonsils, still not many negative comments. Tell people you're having bariatric surgery to improve your health and the negativity starts to flow. Why? Because most people blame you for being obese. If only you can control yourself you'd wouldn't be so fat. If you took the initiative and exercised more, you wouldn't be so fat. What they fail to realize is over eating is a compulsion like drinking. No one would have a negative comment if they knew an alcoholic was having a liver transplant due to excessive drinking. No, most would say, hope this helps to get him/her to stop drinking and to be healthier. We don't get the same empathy because it's automatically assumed it's our fault that we are compulsive eaters. Work hard toward your goal of better health. Do not let the negativity derail you. After your surgery you will lose weight and you will begin to get healthier. Just remember that's only the first part of your success. After surgery you will have a period of time where the weight will come off easy. The mechanical part with surgery is taken care of. Now, you must work on the mental part to find out why you are a compulsive eater. Once you do, you will probably have many years of weight loss success. Be strong you're nearly there. It's nice to have support but if you must go it alone do so because your health depends on it. -
Are you still pre-op? If so, a glass of wine probably won't hurt. If you are actually post-op, I'm not sure how long you should wait--your information from the bariatric practice may say, but you are no doubt aware that it may affect you more than before, right? Besides being empty calories . . .

Down in the dumps, wls diet sucks!
Tierra T Tij posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How do people going about dark sad feelings when doing the gastric bypass diet when you have zero friends or family who support you? I've been having this problem and it has been a struggle. I feel very alone and when I'm lonely and sad I want to eat but I know I cannot emotional eat. On top of that my wls surgery is May 15th so I cannot afford to do that. I feel like I've been feeling a million emotions at once. It's very hard for me these few weeks between not being able to eat much, only liking water and ice and it hurts to swallow due to my bad allergies, I'm just miserable! I just feel like I wish I had more people to vent to about these feelings besides my bariatric journal or my psychologist. I notice when I talk out my emotions it's better instead of feeling them because they derail me tremendously. -

false Last minute pre surgery worries?
Frustr8 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Alas as I sit here and wait for my "call up" to active duty in the BARIATRIC WARS I have time to listen and ponder many things. One hmnn thing: the little last minute worries we come up with. One lady was concerned they would be removing her patient gown in the operating room, not for modesty sake, although that still might have some bearing, she was concerned she would be cold and her surgery would be postponed because of goosebumps. Another was concerned she might start talking about past boyfriends or confess petty thievery while semi-awake. Although I am not overly thrilled that 6-10 more people in Columbus will know whether I am a natural redhead or not, the fact they are going to make 5-7 holes in my tummy like a. demented woodpecker on speed, I'll even put up will that to have my surgery done. Do you have any silly or irrational fears about your surgery? it's okay, you're among friends here -

We sell the entire Procare Health product line in the BariatricPal Store. They’re fairly new compared to the other more we’ll know Bariatric vitamin brands. Customers love all the products. The all in one vitamins abide by ASMBS guidelines and are a great choice. -
And silke, not to throw a wet wool blanket, they can because one made my road to bariatric surgery almost come to an end. But I am a strong woman, still went forward and my last evaluation refruted the vindictive error-laden first and I am well on my way to,prove all Nay-Sayers wrong. Persistence trumps lies and it always will!😛🚩😛
