  1. I am getting very nervous all of a sudden. More people are starting to know what I am doing and decided not to keep it a big secret but noted spreading it around in the newspaper. Did well on the pre-op diet while I was off of work besides eating at Pappadeaux for Mother's Day and having a few bites of mashed potatoes and creme brulee. Will be a busy week...
  2. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op, and I've been sticking to the foods In my diet plan. I've dropped a total of 19 lbs but today I weighed myself again and I've gained back 3 lbs.. could this be because I'm about to get my period in 3 days? Please tell me it's just hormones and I'm not messing this up somehow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Getting sleeved in 6 days!

My high weight was 442, surgery date 387. I'm less than three months post op and I was 331 when I weighed this morning. It will feel like nothing is happening until suddenly one day you look in the mirror and barely recognize yourself. I don't even look like the same person, and I'm less than halfway to my goal. You will get there and you will feel incredible when you do.

When You Say Something Doesn't Go Down Well...

hahaah i had that golf ball feeling...only...it's right above my right boob! LOL i figured that's what it meant. but thanks for all the wonderful information. i did in fact eat too fast one night last week...work was horrible, i'd gotten home late, i had a headache and i still had to eat. i wasn't thinking. and half way through my tuna salad i thought i was just going to spew! not a fun feeling and not one i will experience ever again if i can help it. you're so right about learning to eat again.
  5. OK men, I have to come clean about something. I have participated in an activity that I do not believe Jack Palance nor John Wayne would have approved of. (And I am pretty sure we can all agree that those are the epitomes of manliness.) I have been hitting the gym pretty hard and frequently and I had a fellow gym member tell me that I should consider a yoga class to stretch out the muscles I have been punishing for the past 10 months. "Yoga? But I'm not a hippie. I can't stand patchouli nor sandlewood and I don't hug trees. And I am certainly not 'poofy'." It took me about 2 months after our conversation for me to consider it. After a particularly strenuous session of deadlifts, I was pretty damn sore and I just wanted to work the muscles loose. Thats when her words popped back into my head. So I looked up the calendar at my rec center and attended a yoga class. I will tell you, I felt odd and out of place. Everyone there knew each other but they were all polite. Everyone did their stretching before the serious stretching of the class started. I just kind of stood there with my thumb up my ass because I don't know the first thing about yoga. The instructor arrived and got right into it with the hippy talk. Spirituality, expanding your awareness and so on and so forth... Then we start moving. She would say things like, "Now we are getting into our child pose" or "Come into the Downward Dog" and even a Warrior Pose. At first I was snickering, but as things became more strenuous I actually started to sweat. And muscles started to burn. Legs started shaking and arms trembled. By the end of the class, I was pretty well spent. But I felt really good. Nice and loose! I was in a good mood just like I do when I have a good workout. I came home and told my wife about the class and that I surprisingly enjoyed it. Then the next morning came. I could not move. I think rigor mortis set in. It took the entire day of walking and stretching to get back to a semblance of normalcy, but I can tell you that I did not go to the gym that day. However that following day I went back to the gym and had an even better workout and did not feel as sore as normal. So I believe that yoga may be a good idea after all. So much so that I actually did it again tonight. Thats two weeks in a row and I think I will continue to do it. So in closing, even if you think it is lame or poofy or even hippy, maybe try it out anyways. It can only help you and you may even turn out to enjoy it. And if that isn't enough, Yoga pants. Think about it.
  6. I'm on day three post op and nausea is whipping me!! Any ideas on how long this normally lasts ? I think I could deal with pain better than this. Ugh

What Am I Really Doing To Myself

I had a .25 unfill a couple months ago. For the first 2 weeks after I felt like I was eating too much and thought about going for a re-fill. However I think it was mental head hunger and soon I felt better. My tightness varies from week to week. It's so odd but I know related to stress and hormones.

    caffeine

hey there, my doc said it was ok to have the coffee. Just don't be drinking a pot of it a day but 1 to 2 cups a day was fine. Don't know you might ask you doctor and see. I am only 2 weeks post op so I guess everyone is different. Congratulations on being down 27lbs. I am down 10 which isn't much but it is ok. Good Luck

    Pigment of my skin

Is it looking actually pigmented, as if you were tanning, or is it more of a dusky-looking shade? All I can figured, if you were sleeved within the last few weeks, is that maybe it's old bruising making it's way to the surface, although generally gravity would pull it downward. Interesting!

    Square One??

If you are still on mushies, I'd just finish healing before going to a diet such as Atkins. The first 6 weeks are for healing. I lost weight the first week post op. Then weeks 2-4 nothing. Sure I was frustrated but I wasn't eating enough calories during my healing. Week 5 I finally got up above 1100 calories and I started losing again. If you want to try it try upping your calories. Some people don't lose if they eAt to little

    new lapbanders mother

Yeah she shouldn't worry about how much she is losing yet--it is too early in the game for that. The first 6-8 weeks are for healing and the 1-2 lb avg loss a week doesn't start until you are properly restricted which could take up to 3-5 fills. Plus everybody is different--some lose rather fast and others are turtles but what is nice about the band is that there is no window of opportunity. It is perfectly fine to take as long as you need to get to goal. Good luck to your daughter on her band journey. ~Liz~ 03/10/06 241/163/160 5'7''
  13. I was sleeved in January of '12. I've had ups and downs but nothing that you could point to and say it's related to the sleeve. Normally I'm active. I teach yoga for plus sizes, work, etc. In the summer of '16 (as far as I can guess a time) I began to feel fatigue. It was easy to become frustrated, I would forget small things. I had to get prescription glasses in August. I had at least three "colds" from October to January. January 24th I was admitted to the hospital from the ER due to excessive abdomen and chest pain, fever, headache & nausea. They found I had an enlarged spleen, a "blockage" in my intestinal tract, and of most concern my red and white blood cell counts are really low. I was depleted in magnesium, Iron, B Vitamins and potassium. I hadn't even noticed but my left leg which had been slightly bigger than my right for over a year now is now, minimally closer to 4" in diameter larger in the calf, more on the thigh. I've had test after test after test, the results are still coming in. I've been in the hospital a week and I'm feeling better than when I was admitted to be certain. That's not really saying much unfortunately. My question is not to ask anyone to diagnose me. I do wonder if anyone else has experienced these symptoms. What it was, etc. Mention to my doctor that someone else with the sleeve experienced x,y,z, etc. Thank you for your time! Sent from my A0001 using the BariatricPal App

This friday... and the mental battle

I had so many of your feelings and fears. Very similar. I felt like I wrote your blog. The first few weeks after surgery I was very careful to not direct my anger toward my family members. It wasn't my husband's or my children's fault/choice/or decision to have this surgery. YOU must be clear with your self that this surgery is only for you. Because if it is not- you will struggle more. Every time you get mad at your husband - the urge to eat will be strong. You have to do the surgery - only for you. Or it won't be as successful as it could be. You really can't let yourself "wonder" if this is going to work for you. You HAVE to make it work for you. The surgery is only a tool that will give you a small window of time to break your bad habits and start your new life with better behavior techniques. Good luck and counseling with the right behavior therapist will absolutely help with your addiction. I enjoy sugarfree gum like there is no tomorrow. It really helps me with the head hunger and the mouth hunger. And it really helps with my addiction to food.

    What the??!!

It is true. You do have to do your part. But it is difficult when you are not feeling the restriction. I can understand that. It is frustrating. I was in a similar situation for weeks. I felt there was nothing I couldn't eat. That period feel over the holidays which made it worse. I was grateful that I didn't gain weight. Sometime in January it was like I woke up and decided that I had not been putting weight loss on the top of my priority list. Whether I felt the restriction or not, I knew I had to step back on the band wagon and get in the game. I went back to the basics, started exercising, and forcing others to work around my schedule instead of the other way around. That was the beginning of taking charge again and losing weight. Add to that another fill and I'm back in the ball game again. I know it is a difficult thing to accept, but sometimes we have to admit that we are our own worst enemy. Our choices daily represent the importance we place on our goals. At 7 cc in your band, I suspect that although you can eat a lot of things, you are limited in the quantity you can eat. Compare what you can eat now with what you could eat before your birthday. Is there a difference? If there is a difference then something is working. Be grateful that you can eat a wide variety of things. I can eat a hamburger too and I enjoy treating myself to a small hamburger once a week. I can still lose weight if the hamburger is in my rules. Find another tool to work with your band. I personally use Weight Watchers which works great with the band because it encourages you to keep track of what you eat. If not already doing so, make time each day to exercise. I love to walk and take a 3-mile walk daily or I'll go to the gym for an hour if the weather is bad. Find the right exercise for you. But I believe I'm talking to the choir here. You know what to do. You already have inside you what you need to make it happen, and I'm not just talking about the band. God Bless!

My Pre Opt Diet Starts Tues :/

I guess surgeons everywhere do different diets. Mine is 3 weeks, 800 calories a day which includes 2 protein shakes a day (one for breakfast, 1 for a snack) I was lucky that my hospital was doing a study for the 3 week diet to test out 2 different oils. So I haven't cooked in a week and a half. They will be taking a small sample of my bowels that are being removed anyway and a tiny sample of my liver. Do some surgeons make y'all do a full liquid diet weeks prior?

How long do you wait in between fills?

My doctor's office does the fills every 4 weeks. Good luck Monday. It took me about 4-5 fills to get to point of not being so hungry.

    Getting sleeved in 6 days!

I'm 12 days post-op, and wanted you to know surgery was not bad. I had absolutely no nausea afterwards. They put Zofran in my iv and I was fine. I was driving and going out in a week. I've not had to take anything for nausea since I've been home either. You'll be fine! Keep us posted. 17 lbs gone in 10 days for me...

    Day one on pre-op diet.

I was instructed to go on a two week liquid pre-op diet. They do however, include a very stick pre-op solid foods diet that I can choose from if I absolutely can't stick the liquids only. So far I have only had a tomato. Not bad I'd say. Only 13 more days to go...

    Not eating enough

My RN coodinator told me that the range for Protein is 60-100 grams a day. She said the lower is for a smaller woman (im 5'1) and the 100 is for a man who needs more. She also told me to get out 10 3 oz dixie cups each morning and have three oz of Protein shake every hour or so and by the end of the day you would have the amount needed. I am only 3 days out from surgery and cant get all 10 in but have been gettinf about 45. Hoping to increase as i go. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not eating enough

I'm right with you on not getting your protein in. I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm stuggling big time. I'm lucky if I get 40 gms of protein a day and as for water, I'm only getting about 32 oz a day. I usually start my day with a premier protein drink which I only can drink 2/3 of one. I then start sipping my water about 40 minutes later but I'm still full from the shake so I dont' get much water in. I usually have lunch about 4 hours later and then I'm full for the rest of the day. I have to force some yogurt or cottage cheese down but that still doesn't bring my protein intake up much. I'm getting frustrated and hoping I'll be able to eat more at some point. Oh, also strugging with the b-vitamins. They sour my stomach. ARGH!!!
