  1. Hi all, I was revised 2 weeks ago to bypass and my biggest incision is where the port was. There was a lot of scar tissue so they really had to dig around to get the port out so I was told that this area will be more sore and pulling/burning which is normal. However I am not sure if the rest of my belly swelling is going down or what but that location seems to be bigger, sticking out more and it's hard underneath. The incision have healed very well but I am concerned about the bulging part of it. I will call the dr on Tuesday and ask since its holiday now, but has anyone else had this?
  2. Only three more days to tolerate the pain and complication this (#)% lapband has caused for the last three years. The removal and revision to RNY is on 06/01/16 and I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!! I thank everyone who posts on this forum for providing the insights, traumas, and laughter that has helped me through the last stages of this process. Though I lurk more than I write, I have gotten so much great information from all of you, information I needed to make this a smoother transition. The next step will be tough, and I really hate pain, but reading the stories you've shared gives me comfort and hope. See you on the other side! Rosie

    May bypass group!

My surgery was on the 25th. Vbg revision to roux en y. I just got out of the hospital today. 1 1/2 days without any type of liquid is tough. My swallow test showed no leaks so finally got to have liquids yesterday. I see what yall are saying now about not really wanting anything. Other than to wet my mouth I didn't want it. I also was hit with the gas pain...whoa! Wicked..but a gas-x strip did the trick. I'm feeling pretty good, and I haven't really needed the pain meds. It's still hard to get up and down, but getting easier as it goes. I also have to sit a minute or two before I stand to stave off the dizziness. First night back in my own bed will be interesting. Lol. I really got use to the adjustable bed in the hospital.

    Acid at night

Thanks for the reply. I'm really leaning more towards vsg because the thought of malabsorption scares me. What have you noticed is the biggest difference between the band and gastric bypass? Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App the GB has a similar feeling of restriction as the band, so I like that. The differences are pretty significant. I have had about a four week recovery period, and I don't really have a lot of interest in food. I have had some nausea when I eat certain things. I really wanted a bypass because of the fact that eating sweets really affects some people. I have not tested myself in this area yet, though. The bottom line for me was that my surgeon strongly recommended the bypass for lap band revisions, and I trust him. He has several years of experience to back up his recommendations.
  5. Welcome Matt! You have come to the right place if you are seeking guidance, support and personal experiences. I am a revision patient (from lap band to sleeve) on April 20, 2016 so I'm still kind of a newbie. As a newbie, maybe I can give you some of my initial experiences and others can pick up along the way... The surgery part- For me, was very easy. In the hospital weds, out Thursday, felt the usual soreness and gas pains (those hurt more than anything!). It's tricky at first getting in your fluids but each day gets easier. I was back on my feet pretty normal by Monday- errands, gardening, dog park. I felt the more I moved the better I felt so I just kept moving. I haven't really stopped since! I'm lucky in that for some reason, this surgery game me a HUGE burst of energy. I think a huge part was mental- I wake up each day and think "oh my goodness... It's real! I have a sleeve!" Because to me the sleeve equals a tool to help take control of my life. It's by NO means a quick or easy fix to weight issues- it's a tool that you need to learn to work properly. There are lots of people here who can offer support and advice when you need it. Listen to your doctor and do what your team tells you. Your doctor knows you. He's doing your surgery. Follow his instructions. You will find that doctors orders vary enormously- it's almost funny at times. But you can't pick and chose things from other people's plans and try them all out. Someone on here has the motto "You do you". It's great advice. Don't compare your weight loss to others. Everyone loses at different rates. It can be discouraging to see people who had surgery the same time as you post numbers bigger than yours. We are all different- weights, exercise levels, etc. Again, your focus should be on you. Finally, I'm sure you are a smart guy since you are diligently doing your homework. That's a sign you are headed in the right direction. Go over all your post surgery stuff NOW and see what your team says to avoid. If it's coffee, soda, fruit, whatever, if you are loving it now, learn to say goodbye to it before you have your surgery. It's much easier if you wean yourself early on from the no no stuff. Don't wait. Start now. I'm sure you will have lots of folks give you great advice. And remember that's what this is- advice. Your doctor always knows best but you can't beat the kind of support you will find here. You will also find tough love which is just as important! It's also good if you have a good support system surrounding you. You can tell no one or share with the world but those in the know should understand what this surgery entails and how you need to commit to it 100%. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted and if I can help in any way, just ask! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hi. I have had 6 years of nightmares with my band. Everything everyone has experienced but GERD the most annoying. Even wound up with aspiration pneumonia. I am looking to get approval for revision but have the 6 month diet requirement right now from insurance. Anyway, I'd love to hear others experiences with this particular revision and specifically, did you experience weight loss that you didn't with the band. Thanks for the help!

    Acid at night

I was banded in 2009, lost about 50 lbs and kept if off UNTIL... Summer 2014 I started having terrible acid relux at night and vomiting several times a week. I lived in denial for quite some time, then finally saw my surgeon in August 2015. He removed all the Fluid (hello, 10 lbs) and did an endoscopy, which determined that the band had slipped. I had the band removed in October 2015, and was revised to gastric bypass on April 18. I have done well with the bypass so far and have zero acid reflux issues. I chose the bypass because the surgeon recommended it as a revision instead of the sleeve. I listened to him and am so glad I did. I was terribly despaired while I had the reflux and vomiting. I felt very alone and did not reach out for help for way too long. When my surgeon told me that the band is well-known for these side effects I felt a little better. He doesn't really offer the band anymore in his practice. Please reach out for help.

    Nervous about revision

Craig, Im sorry to hear that you let your family get in the way of your dreams and healthy future. Maybe if you let them read all these great revision success stories maybe they will change their minds. If you read all these stories in revision from band to sleeve they are all 99.9% the same thing. No matter what the decision that yo stay with you have to remove the band or it can cause serious damage later on. i wanted the band out so bad that i was willing to pay for it myself before fighting with insurance. but thank god all went well insurance approve revision to sleeve and removal of band. i too had the band put n in 2006 did great lose 80lbs and about 2 years ago started having problems slip throwing up cant eat acid reflux gerd ect ect. January 2016 decided i had enough and went back to my doc for revision i had surgery a few days ago May 24 revised im am thrilled and doing great 3 days later im walking 2 miles cleaning driving and back to normal following protocol. (oh by the way i had gained all of my weight back.) arrgg im not to upset just as long as the scale is moving the right way im good. I wish you the best in your decision. keep us posted

    Acid at night

The same thing is going on with mine, I have no fill but yet I get acid reflux daily especially at night. My surgeon wants to remove it and let me rest for 8 weeks before doing any type of revision. At this point I don't know what to do because I'm afraid this whole acid reflux stuff will follow me. So how do you feel without the band? I'm hoping it is intant relief for me...I'm on protonix 40mg 2 times a day and that does absolutely nothing for me ???? Ready for new adventure

@@tagyourit Welcome and congrats on surgery date! I am ex bandit myself, just freshly revised to bypass and already feel glad that I don't have band in me anymore (was never a fan of the foreign item in my body). I had the band for 9 years so it took me a while to have to guys to revise as well.
  12. Lucky you!! How much weight have you lost, if you don't mind me asking? I know we aren't suppose to focus on the scale number but I'm averaging about a pound a day. I feel it's all in my face and not my body lol. I guess I need to just be patient it'll be easier when I notice differences in my size clothing though. I forgot to weigh myself the day of my surgery so the closet starting weight I have is that week before I was 221. Now I'm down to 207. When I first started the program 4 months ago I was at 237 but lost the first 16lbs on my own just by limiting my carbs and sugar. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App I've lost 17 pounds.... i thought it would be much more than that.... but i remind myself that i tried losing that by diet and exercise and lost barely anything. I know from when i had the band, i didn't lose much the first month, most of my weight loss occured month 3... so i have to be patient Hey Aussiegirl- I was sleeved on 4/20 as well, revised from a band. How ya doing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    MGB.. Reversible or not?!

Google brought me to this: http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/mini-gastric-bypass-surgery.html I found this statement: MGB is an effective, relatively low-risk, and low-failure bariatric procedure. In addition, it can be easily revised, converted, or reversed. My personal opinion is that even reversable procedures have risk...they are never truly reversible. My lapband damaged my stomach. Interesting that the mini bypass can cause reflux, like the sleeve
  14. I had revision surgery from the band, and now I cannot stop losing.... Really not a good thing.
  15. Maybe he's not the right surgeon if he's doing a revision he's not positive about? My sleeve revision was about 2x as effective as my bad. I lost weight twice as fast and got an additional 30 pounds lower than my lowest band weight. For me, the sleeve was a miracle and night and day to the band both in how I felt and how it has worked.

    Band mentality, sleeve tummy

I was a band to sleeve revision. I lost weight quickly with the sleeve, quicker than the band and I got much lower. What I noticed is that I did have to make an effort to switch to sleeve eating, to eat protein first. That's really key to weight loss and mine always slowed when I didn't do that. 2-4 oz of meat fills that little tummy and stays there for a long time. I'm immediately full. If you graze or eat other types of foods first you won't get the sleeve working the way you want. It works great but just tell yourself protein and every meal, protein first.
  17. Hi mom2sparky, I am wondering if you got approval for your revision based on the GI results. I have a similar situation. Thank you.

8 days post op in pain

I had same thing... Came home from hospital got to a point where I was feeling good started doing things and BAM! Felt like I got worse, went back on pain meds and started to take it easy and today finally seem to be doing better. I have to tell this to myself all the time but you do have to rest... Plus we are still weak after surgery and get tired fast. The pulling is your body healing... I actually had very bad episode yesterday where I had horrible pain where my port used to be (I am revision from bypass). I got up to get something and just burst we into tears it was that painful. Talked to the dr today they said it's the healing process and I got local pain meds patch to apply to that area. I don't like taking pain meds either but plz take it if you are in pain, it will help...
  19. If you have acid reflux I would go with bypass over sleeve. I developed reflux after my sleeve and it's debilitating. I'm revising bypass on 7/1 in the hopes of curing my GERD. Just my opinion but knowing now what do I would definitely pick bypass if I had s history of reflux. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Hummmmmm.... That's a good question. There is definitely a different feeling. With the band I always had a "stuck" feeling when I swallowed, now I have a "full" sensation in my stomach. I liked my band, had it for 6 years before it gave out and during that time I changed my relationship with food. That being said, it was a pain. Fills, finding the green zone, and oh the fun time my germy kids brought home norovirus for Thanksgiving. Violent throwing up and bands do not make holiday fun. AT ALL. I'm thrilled with the sleeve and my weight loss but it's hard when I see other members numbers going down so rapidly. Ive read that revision patients lose slower, but I'm not sure that's true. It's all about calories in and getting my exercise on. I'm going to stay the course and keep on keeping on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. My evil scale just got a pardon. I was ready to commit it to a watery grave (the pool) but it decided to actually go DOWN in numbers- finally! I had revision from a band to a sleeve on April 20th and for the last week had been stuck in the dreaded stall. Thanks to the wonderful advice of the members on this site I kept to plan- Protein, fluids and exercise. So here we go- this is the first time I'm posting actual numbers.... Surgery weight- 177 Current weight- 159 Goal weight- 140 I can honestly say this surgery has changed my life. I have unbelievable energy and feel fantastic. My kids are loving the mom that plays badminton in the evenings and da hubby loves that I want to run errands instead relying on my team of monkey butlers from Amazon to deliver things to my door. Yey me!! I know that there will be some hard work down the road but I'm glad that there is this site to keep me motivated and inspired. My scale just snickered at me... Yep it's still a jerk. The battle is ON!! Take care everyone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Band mentality, sleeve tummy

I had my revision on 4/4. After my revision I also struggle with the band mentality. With the band there was certain foods that were off limits. I find that I still stay away from those foods especially certain types of meats due to they way they felt going down when I had the band. I also find myself grazing especially when I'm at home but I try to turn to healthy choices such a string cheese or sugar free Popsicles. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    April 27th VSG DATE

Hi carlissa. I am also an RN. Other than a psychologist consult for insurance requirements, I did not have difficulty getting approval for surgery. My surgeon required just one week of liquid diet prior to surgery but no weight loss required. I had a band to sleeve revision on April 4. I'm 5'3 and my pre-surgery weight was 255. As of today I weigh 221. My only struggle is trying to get the required amount of Water intake on the nights that I work. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I'm excited for you. DS veterans lend me your history

I'm being revised from VSG to DS tomorrow and I'll can tell you this, if stinky poop and farts will help get the weight off and KEEP IT OFF, LONG TERM, bring on the smellies cuz I'm looking for the best surgery and screw the rest! LOL! Just make sure your doc is selling you on the TRUE DS and not the Sadi/Loop type DS. They are VERY DIFFERENT SURGERIES. Best of luck to you!
