So, last night I was tired and went to bed early. I woke up about 3am to use the restroom and passed out while standing at the toilet... Bashed my face into the throne and then passed out again a couple minutes later while washing my hands. I was still feeling off this morning and went to the ER. I had eaten a fiber one protein bar and Greek yogurt before deciding to go in. They ran a few tests and have me fluids... My blood sugar was only 60 even after eating. I've never passed out or had problems with low blood sugar before. I had steak and baked potato for dinner and a pear for a snack before heading off to bed. Could the sugar in the pear have sent me into a hypoglycemic crash? Anyone have any experience with this 8 months after RNY surgery? From what I've read this seems like a problem people run into later after surgery (18-24 months) and usually from eating sugary foods.

Pre-Op Diet OMG! I'm Dying!
Brenda Sherwood replied to UpandAtom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im jealous of you guys...you get shakes. Im only allowed Isopure [clear Protein ] broth and Jello. I had a hard time the first day, second day was a breeze, third day I found out insurance denied me so I had some yogurt and scrambled eggs. But, Im going to stay pretty close to this diet for awhile just because of the health benefits. Im down 27lbs since January, 6 of which were the last 3 days. Im pretty bummed about the denial but we are fighting it and shooting for July. And yes I agree on giving up the high carb shakes. They wont help curb your appetite and will damper tge results of liver shrinking. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App -
Are you sleeve or bypass? I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? I'm 6 weeks out as well and can't eat more than that physically. I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol I think it depends. I read by 3 months the RNY pouch usually expands to closer to a cup in size, and I bet that varies. Also I find the liquid foods may pass faster onto my duodenum, but besides shakes, I never measure the volume of my meals. Semi solid things like yogurt or puréed refried Beans are never an issue. I once heard you can't physically stretch the bypass pouch although it gets bigger with time, but I don't know what the truth it. Usually they say it is the stoma that widens to much, allowing food to pass faster, but that isn't from overeating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No. I'm bypass. For me, its relative. One sitting for me at a meal is one hour. So yes, I can eat 3/4 in an hr. Can I eat 3/4 cup of meat; any type of meat-well no. Can I eat 3/4 cup in a half hour-heck no. Do I eat 3/4 6 times a day-no. Can I always eat six times a day-no :-(. I usually have one meal a day-at lunch that is 1/2-3/4 cup. I really really try to have this one meal because the rest of my day is snacks: half a bag 3/4 oz of Protein chips (you must try them), 3/4 of a Greek Oikos yogurt, 3 tbs cottage cheese, one tuna pack, etc. I eat my Snacks in about 15-25 mins. Most of the time I eat 2 tbsp because that's about all I can stand. My NUT says to eat 1/2 cup 5 times a day. Not going to happen for me. If I'm awake from 530a-9pm-that's 15.5 hrs. That would mean I'd have to eat 1/2 cup every 3 hrs. Not gonna happen. Not feasible for me at all. Now, I can eat every 4 hrs if it's a couple tbsp or so. Then there's also the variable of not drinking 30 mins before or after eating... But to answer your question. My doc suggests eating 3/4-1cup at meals. In fact, I have constantly scolded for not eating enough. My NUT and surgeon also do NOT want me relying on getting my protein in liquid form at this point. I think I've rambled enough. Ha! I hope this all makes sense. Btw-I'm now 35.5 lbs down from sx on 3/14/16

Hi all! I'm on day four post-op, and I think I'm doing pretty well. My goals at this point are 64 oz of liquid and 50-70 g of Protein each day. I am eating small amounts at a time, multiple times a day. So, for example, today I had about 4 oz of Oikos Triple zero yogurt for Breakfast. I just finished 4 oz of premier Protein shake for lunch. I plan to have some high protein Jello after a few hours. Maybe a cup of broth with Protein powder, and 4 more oz of shake. That should put me at about 55 G protein for the day. Does that sound reasonable at this stage? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Puréed food recipe or the best puréed food?
LisaMergs replied to cat.jackson89's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wait on tuna until you hit soft foods or you can grind it up. Also the chunk canned chicken is good. Mix them with a little cottage cheese and add seasonings to taste. Purée does not have to be bland unless you can't tolerate it. I'm a spice nut and have tons of small packets from spice stores of different blends. Makes the same dish taste different. Lol. You can purée anything really as long as you add moisture to it. Dry foods are harder to get down. So things like broth, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc go a long way to helping your cause. And be careful- things like refried Beans are wonderful but if you also have another "dry" item it may be too heavy on your new tummy. Also- one of my favorites was taking 1/4 C tuna or chicken, 2 tbl cooked spinach, 2 tbl cottage cheese and a tbl of mayo, blending it and warming it. Kind of like a tuna melt! -
Tell me about your progression of foods...

Lol. Yes I though the about that later like what was I thinking, but luckily it was ok. It was actually so refreshing to have something fresh like that, so used to yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs. It was a nice change. Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App -
Puréed food recipe or the best puréed food?
Daisee68 replied to cat.jackson89's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@cat.jackson89 - You are welcome! I didn't cook a lot during that time. I ate a lot of hummus (just with a spoon); sugar free chocolate pudding with 1/2 scoop of chocolate Protein powder mixed in; greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop of vanilla Protein Powder mixed in (Dannon Light & Fit strawberry Cheesecake and Key Lime are my favorites); pimento cheese (mixed in a little unflavored protein powder); chicken salad and/or tuna salad (try with 1/2 lite mayo and 1/2 greek yogurt); and Laughing Cow cheese wedges. I cannot think of anything else right now but will come back if I do! I ate a lot of refried Beans with the cheese. That really hit the spot for me. (I added in a little spices to it like garlic salt and onion powder). You can also look under the forum here for food and nutrition and I think there is a whole section about pureed foods that might give you some ideas. Good luck!! -
Absolutely not. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's "sparkling", right? Carbonation is a huge no-no postop. If you want probiotics, stick with Greek yogurt or better yet a supplement like Garden of Life Raw probiotics which have 75-100 billion live CFU instead of just the 4 billion you get in Kevita.

Is this a stupid idea?
LipstickLady replied to kmorri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My two week pre op diet was two shakes, one snack of yogurt or cottage cheese, one meal of lean meat and veggies a day. I chose to start two weeks early. I didn't cheat, I didn't have a good funeral, I don't regret it. I was ready to break up with my obsessive need for food, so I did. -
Quick and easy high protein healthy snacks/meals?
Sharon1964 replied to miss_smiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are around 30 grams of carbs in the banana alone, depending on the size. That's too much for a snack or even a meal for me. I container of dannon light & fit greek yogurt has 9 grams of carbs and 12 grams of Protein. -
Quick and easy high protein healthy snacks/meals?

Hey everyone! I recently found a great snack/small meal and I would love to share. One medium banana 1/2 cup high Protein plain Greek yogurt 1-2 tablespoon of PB2 powered Peanut Butter Mix the pb2 in the yogurt- and your done! You can use the yogurt mixture as a dip for your banana which you can cut up and eat with a fork/spoon slowly. It's low calorie- very high protein. (About 20g depending on how much yogurt and pb2 you use). Anyone else have great quick and easy snacks/small meals they make?! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Has she tried adding Greek yogurt and Lactose Free milk to a chocolate flavored unjury Protein and blending it like a shake? I find this helps improve the taste and also bumps the protein up considerably. -
Unflavored Protein Powder and flavored clear protein drink
Montana Gal replied to Red23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The clear Protein drink is called Isopure, it's sold at GNC in individual glass bottles. There are a lot of different flavors to try(I tolerated grape and apple melon). They aren't the best tasting, but it's a great way to get your protein in during the clear liquid phase after you leave the hospital. Each bottle contains 40g of protein. As far as the unflavored powder, I have seen a lot of people use unjury, especially in Soups. I use Designer whey, it's unflavored and contains 19g I think. I added it to my yogurt and also made shakes using almond milk and PB2(healthy powdered peanut butter). Good luck with your surgery, stay hydrated and get in your protein and you will do great. -
This is what I ate yesterday, and is a fairly typical day for me. Breakfast: 2 eggs with 1 slice of cheese, coffee with 2 tablespoons sugar free creamer Lunch: 3 ounces chicken breast, La Tortilla Factory low carb whole wheat tortilla, 1/4 avocado Snack: Oh Yeah One Protein Bar, coffee with 2 tablespoons sugar free creamer Dinner: 3 ounces chicken breast, steamed broccoli, Trader Joe's riced cauliflower Snack: 1/2 cup Fage low fat plain yogurt with 1/2 cup strawberries 35 ounces water Right around 1200 calories. Walked very brisk pace for 30 minutes. This is pretty much what I eat, but can't lose an ounce!!! Would like to lose another 20 pounds. For all of you veterans out there, any advice is appreciated!!!

Help with Whey shakes.
heidikat72 replied to Cassie111's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
you can try adding sugar free syrups (like torani) or sugar free instant pudding powder (just a little) to help change up the flavor. if you can have caffeine (some plans are ok with it as long as you are drinking to plenty of Water, some plans have it as a no-no), you could try adding a little instant coffee powder if you like that flavor. To get away from the idea of "shakes", you could mix some into some plain nonfat greek yogurt. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper or parchment and freeze for frozen Protein yogurt drops. Or even try pouring a shake into popsicle molds and freezing and voila, protein popsicle! Although I have seen where some people say they separate/settle as they freeze but other people don't seem to have this issue. -
Anything I should know?
JamieLogical replied to Janiegirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't in a lot of *pain*, but certainly discomfort. The worst of the pain for me was gas pain and that lasted about 4 days. I didn't have any pain around my incisions, but some people do. I also had discomfort in the center of my chest (esophagus constricting) every time I took a sip of anything. Even the teeniest tiniest sip. That lasted about two weeks. You will be given guidelines about food. Typically people start off on Clear Liquids (broth, Jello, popsicles) for the first couple days, then "full liquids" (Protein shakes, strained cream Soups, drinkable yogurt, milk) for a bit, then purees (blended foods, refried Beans, cottage cheese), then soft foods (tuna salad, scrambled eggs, soft cheeses), then solid foods (pretty much anything so long as it's not crispy or crunchy), and then finally crispy/crunchy foods. The length of the phases and what is included in them will be completely dependent upon your surgeon's program. Every post-op plan is different. It's very important to follow YOUR surgeon's plan. You will read/see/hear people with very different plans from yours, but only your surgeon will be working with YOU directly. Immediately post-op your primary objectives will be getting your Water in to avoid dehydration. Getting your protein in to aid in healing and give you some energy. Taking your meds and Vitamins. And getting up and walking a little every hour or two to avoid blood clots and to help with the gas pain. -
