    how much did you lose

Hi there, I was banded on July 27 with Dr Coburn. I have only lost 22 pounds since I started Optifast on July 6 up to August 8. I am really feeling concerned that this is not working. I have actually gained a half a pound since Aug 8. This is not what I signed up for. Physically I feel fine but emotionally I feel out there. The cost of the surgery was huge and part of the cost was the after care. I have called the center two weeks post op and was told the nurses would call me back but they have not. I feel like I am trying to do this on my own and I can't. Sorry this is sounding like a rant but I am feeling depressed. I read this website and all I see are people's weight loss tickers moving down down down and I don't know if that is going to happen to me. Has/is this happening to anyone else?

    Food after my bypass

Mostly it depends on what you are going to eat. There are a ton of bariatric cookbooks out there. But I did find this link: http://obesitycoverage.com/before-after/top-7-apps-after-weight-loss-surgery/
  5. Worry not! Your weight loss will slow to a more 'normal' pace after your initial large losses at first. The weight always comes off fast at first, then usually your body puts the brakes on in the form of a stall, then the losses even out a bit. It's actually pretty rare for people to lose 'too much weight'. Most of the complaints are they can't seem to get the remaining 10-20 off the closer they are to goal. You'll be just fine Good job!

  8. My BMI was only 43 (haha funny to now be able to say only 43). Anyway, no you are not crazy. This is a way to reduce those co-morbidities. It will make suregery tougher on the surgeon, but in the long run this surgery will make life way easier on you and your body. I know there are lots of people on here who have improved both blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis, if not totally gotten rid of them. I am now off both my metformin and my blood pressure medication. I don't know about the lupus or the copd. It can only help your joints though. I was off my meds by about 4 weeks post op. You will be surprised how quickly things start to improve. One benefit to having a higher BMI is that you will see your weight drop off quicker than those of us who had not quite so high ones. Don't be scared. It sounds like you would have to have surgery anyway. This is just like a bonus one that will decrease the chances of having to go through any of it again later. I would not change my sleeve for anything. It is the best decision I have ever made. Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress.
  9. My BMI was 57 when I started my sleeve journey. It had lowered by the time I had the actual sleeve surgery due to pre-op diets and having a gastric balloon inserted. I remember the day my dietician telling me my BMI had dropped below 50 and being weirdly proud! I was so lucky to have managed to get by at such a high weight for so long without having any serious health implications, apart from barely being able to walk when I was at my highest weight (not too impressive for a 26 year old), and I can't see how this would do anything but improve your health. Losing weight helps most things and it's definitely always worth a go. If you want to really make a change in diet and lifestyle, go for the sleeve. It's not easy but I feel like a new woman already, and I'm still only halfway through the weight I need to lose. Best of luck in your future surgeries and decision on the sleeve

    Need Help ASAP

I am going to be banded the end of Oct. and need to know what me life will be like after surgery. You see I am retired living in Fl. with my husband and right now my health is such that I can do very little. We came to Fl to have fun and meet new friends, which we did. We like to have parties, go golfing with our friends, out to dinner, people over for cocktails and hors d'oeuvre. How will my life change????? Do I want this LAP-BAND®,absolutely, I just want to know if I can still go out to eat without worrying about getting sick. Can I still have a glass of wine or two when we have people over. How about a nice cold beer after playing 9 holes of golf. Will all this come to a holt? I know I have to eat in moderation, I don't have a problem with that, I just want to know my life won't change that drastically. Can any retired person out there with a life similar to mine help me and answer my questions? I need to know ASAP as I see the Dr. tomorrow. Thanks everyone. I am not a nut case, just someone who needs desperately to lose weight and enjoy what ever time the Lord gives me in this world, I don't want to walk into the Pearly gates, I want to slide in.
  15. Thank you to all! What great advice. I have lost 75lbs so far and have 30lbs to go. I haven't been measuring inches and will get right on that. Anyone tried weight watchers post op?
  16. ava2011, frustration is the worst part of this! and 4 weeks with no movement is certainly frustrating. However, Lissa makes some great points...are you getting smaller? Take measurements as they can show a more accurate figure than the scales. When I stall, which I do frequently I tend to lose inches. I haven't lost a lb since the end of Oct but I've lost nearly 2 inches? - I am 19mths out now BTW! In the early days, and around the 6mths marker, my weight loss froze too...but I got smaller and dropped clothes size. This might just be a time for your body to readjust again...try not to get too stressed over it because I can tell you, from my experience, is that you will lose more. Have a look at Diva's bootcamp... that might help you kick start the weight loss again. Good luck and let us know how you get on =]

Sue... I am almost 2 yrs post-op and have lost 97 pounds (almost to goal, don't really care if I lose the last 13 pounds or not). I've been too tight and fell into soft food syndrome. Maybe that's why you gained weight with a too-tight fill? My personal opinion (remember...my advice is free, and worth every cent) is that everyone has a different "sweet spot", depending on what type of eating problem(s) they have (quantity eater, sweets eater, carb eater, etc), tolerance, and lots of other stuff. I need for my band to be tight enough so that I cannot eat bread, pizza, Pasta, etc. Carbs were my downfall. I also need my food to stay in my pouch for long periods, as I was also bad about grazing (snacking). Now, if there isn't room in the pouch, I can't eat it (or not much of it). I think (you could be different) that we all need to examine CLOSELY our eating habits, feelings about food, etc. I mean really look at all those things and see where they got us in trouble, and what we and the band, as a TEAM, can do to overcome them. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to back this theory, but it has worked well for me. Food/eating is such a huge part of our lives and social structure, I just think it takes more than a mechanical approach to "fix" it.

    Hello

Hi I'm a newbie...I been on this site looking and searching the blogs. Wondering if I should get the band The doctor want me to lose weight for health reasons. So yesterday I took the first step and went to a consult. Hoping my insurance approve me, I am very inspired by you guys on how good you all look. I hope I get the same results just a little NERVOUS!
  19. Notes - Tom has gotten the best of me this month, I must get my head screwed back on straight. I had a binge fest last night, ate too much. Never PB'd but ended up sliming on a 1/2 of brownie - yuck. Then late night, had some nachos, and ended up waking up with acid reflux a little (the nachos still in my pouch because went to bed right after I ate them). I also ate 2 bowels of cereal, and a bowel of soup. A complete pig last night. This morning, the alarm went off to go exercise, I turned it off and rolled back over, couldn't even get out of bed. So mad at myself this morning. Now I must go exercise tonight! I will not miss a workout session - I will not do it! I must go exercise! I must I must I must! Driving into work this morning, I had a long talk with myself and told myself I need to get my head back into the game. So today, its back into the game, no more binging, no more excuses! M1 - Caramel light frapp. M2 - 3 oz of baked fish and 1/2 cup of salad with spritz on dressing (1 cal per spray, had 5 sprays) M3 - laughing cow cheese - light - 1 oz M4 - 3/4 cup of turkey chili with 1 oz of cheese M5 Exercise #1 - (3:00 pm) 20 min on Elliptical (HIIT) - 210 calories, 1.62 distance, upped the resistance to level 4. My legs are burning! Exercise #2 - UBWO (9:30 pm) Exercsise #3 - Yes number 3 - did 30 min on treadmill, 4% incline, 3.3 mph, 248 calories, 1.82 distance. Wt this morning - 189.2 (geeze - I'm going the wrong direction!) I'm not weighing again until Sunday! Friday is my 4 month anniversary (with the band) and Sunday is my 4 week BFL update. So, I will weight Sunday for both ocassions, and take my 4 week BFL picture and measurements.

    Need Advice

You have received excellent advice so far. I concur! You bite is too big, or you didn't chew enough, or you ate too fast if you get that pain. That pain is a sign that one of the above has happened. You may also want to adjust your diet a bit before running back for an unfill. In your mind, go back to post-op and kind of start over, without the evil Clear liquids, anyway. Do Soup for a meal, or get your protien shakes back out for Breakfast. Take advantage of this extra restriction! Watch your calories...don't get into the empty liquid calories habit. Just ease back into "grown-up" bandster foods. You will lose some weight and that fill will lossen up a bit. Be careful, your band is biting back, and it will win if you don't eat properly! Good luck!
  21. My insurance changed! I started my journey November 2018, with a consult with my (then) surgeon at Riverside Medical Clinic. With my (then) insurance, Anthem Blue Cross ***, I only needed 3 month (12 continuous classes) supervised nutrition/weight classes. As of now, I finished 10 out of my 12 classes. Last week I found out my insurance changed to Anthem BC PPO and they now require me to go to a Dignity Health Facility to be covered 100%. Well okay... I call my nearest Dignity Health bariatric surgery center to find out more. I was told at Western Bariatric (St. Bernadine -- San Bernardino, CA) that I needed 6 months of classes and basically restart my journey. I started to bawl my eyes out! I'm 25 (November birthday) and I'm getting real close to end of my insurance coverage under my parents. When I had started my journey, I was hoping to have my surgery by March or April. So, I'm worried about having my surgery before my cut off. Anyway, I sucked it up and started making calls. I attended their Seminar, where we filled out new patient packets and made copies of our insurances. The next step is to wait for a call to schedule my consult with their surgeon. I was told that the consult would count as 1 of the 6 months of weight classes. Does anyone believe they will accept my 3 months of classes Ive already taken? (and maybe only need 3 more months to meet the 6mo requirement?) Will they consider the original surgeon consult from November 2018 too (as part of the 6 months wight management?) I'm honestly hoping that Western Bariatric will consider my start (Nov.) to my current (Feb.) for a total of 4 out of the 6 required months. I didnt want to be set further back, but ill take whatever they'll take and Im hoping for the best! Can anyone can give me some insight? Similar situations? Anyone go to Western Bariatric? I'm really anxious.

    Just starting have questions.

ask your surgeon about dropping below 40 bmi. I had the same concern and my office said they submit the weight from your first visit, not from any of the follow up visits.

First Fill 7/14 - but need a new scale?

I got a great and very accurate scale at Walmart made by Weight Watchers. I love it! It was affordable and when I go into a doctors office with the real scale mine is always in line with what the the doctor's scale says.

    Sweet taste, dry heaves

After surgery, the most important requirements are Protein, fluids and Vitamins. food is only secondary because your body is converting stored fats into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. It sounds like you are having problems in at least two of the three required areas. Are you getting in the required protein supplements (protein shakes) each day? How is that going? Your blood work shows low levels, generally this could be caused by Vitamin deficiencies. You indicated you have problems with Fluid intake. I recommend you experiment. For fluid intake try other things until you find something that works for you. My tastes after surgery changed so much that I found it hard to drink even Water. It was a struggle. I used Crystal Light and that worked for me. But later I found fine English teas that also worked. The liquid content of Soups also count towards your fluid requirement. Since you are talking about the fact that you are so nauseous and constantly dry heaving and vomiting up saliva. This combined with the fact that you are unable to eat minimal amounts of food, almost makes me think you may have a stricture (too much scar tissue at the site of the operation seriously restricting food intake). This is fairly easy to correct. http://www.realself.com/question/stricture
  25. Good morning everyone! I hope and pray your journey is going well. My surgery was Oct 26 and I have lost almost 100 # since my heaviest weight and almost 75 since surgery. I am looking and FEELING great! Now, enough of the bragging... To my question: I have noticed at work, in the past, when I made proposals, no matter the situation, certain people would immediately put them down, degrade my knowledge, and more often than not, they would resurface 3-4 months later as their own proposals and the celebrations would begin. Since my weight loss, my proposals are getting serious consideration and implementation. Even ones 6 months ago that were summarily dismissed and I am reintroducing are being seriously considered. The only change I can think of is my weight loss. Am I crazy? Has this happened to anyone else? I have been told my personality hasn't changed and my professionalism is the same. I know, ride the wave and enjoy but this is nagging at me. I wonder what if I would have lost the weight years ago. Where would I be? Anyone have work horror/success similar stories?
