Question about Triglycerides
MINI-Me replied to MINI-Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'd be amazed how much room they really have in them. Not only are they cute, but they can fly. My husband tracks his & has a blast. Of course, if I buy another one, he will kill me. I guess my NSV will be feeling cute and sassy while driving it! -
Question about Triglycerides

One of the NSVs that I will be glad to experience will be the ability to get a smaller car. I've been so big that I could only drive a big one, for comfort. A Cooper sounds nice...they are so cute. -
Way to go, Humming Bird!:frown: I had a strange NSV the other day that I never realized was weight-related! I walked my son to school in the snow, and when I walked back home, I noticed that my footprints from earlier were straight, not splayed out to the side like a duck. All my life I was a tiny bit embarrassed about how my footprints showed how my feet went way out to the sides. But they don't now. It must have been from all the weight! Who knew?! :w00t:

8 weeks post op ~ feeling discouraged
bella5425 replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i stalled a little at the 8 week mark also then things just settled down and i started losing fast. i am 8 months out and 122 pounds down. look for the nsv's - rings are looser, bras and panties looser. lock that scale up girl. i was an obsessive weigher in the beginning but i had to quit. now i just weigh when i go to support group or to my md's. good luck! -
how great is that stoongal. . .those are the NSV's i can't wait for! I think i had one today too, as i was sitting in the doctors office waiting on my vitamins and minerals order, a man sat down beside me and started up a conversation.. . he said you look good, have you lost a lot? I told him 20 lbs today, he asked when i was sleeved, when i told him 9 days ago, he nearly fell out of the chair, the look on his face was amazing. . .he just stared and kept saying you look so good! I could feel myself super blushing cause i haven't had a man say that to me in a good long while!

Tiffy, I am looking so forward to displacing enough water I can float in the tub! Wow, so great! But tonight in prep for my trip back to MX with my family, I soaked in the bathtub, something I haven't been able to do for a very long time, due to being so very heavy and with 2 knee replacements in 08. But I was able to get in and out gracefully, even knelt on the one knee that was done first to get out and it wasn't so bad as I thought it would be! Not a biggie for an NSV, but I almost cried with relief that I can bathe again and not just shower all the time!

What a great NSV that formal was! I love Mardi Gras season and the balls are my very favorite part of it. Congrats on hitting Onederland! -
I have a really great NSV today. I wore size Large scrubs to work and they fit great. They were not even tight! I have gone from a size 2X tight scrubs .... then 1X ..... now Large ................on my way to MEDIUM !!!

That is totally fantastic! We'll just call you Auntie T! You go girl What a great NSV

Bill - that NSV is awesome ! ! ! Carolyn - that is exactly what I was thinking when I posted that one. It's not always the numbers on the scale. It's the little victories that feel the best. It's realizing something that never happened before, and thinking "wow, I can actually do that now."

What a great NSV! I know the docs I saw would push the RNY more for the people with diabetes...one said it's because diabetes is so serious and the RNY cures diabetes so quickly. My doc left it up to me. Glad it's going so well for you! -BG

Kate's "The Works" special
Fanny Adams replied to general_antiope's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
LOL! My partner, Chris, says he's never known anyone who can survive on as little sleep as I do. I work away on the mines and am always up by 4:45am when at work, so if I make 5:30am at home, that's a real sleep in. I'm usually in bed by 10pm but will be up again between 12 and 1 for a half hour and then again at around 3am. I never used to be a morning person but my whole body clock changed when I started mine work and I am now bouncing off the walls with energy between 5 and 9am (and usually ready for a nap again at 9:30, LOL!). My energy levels have tripled also, since I lost the weight - in fact, that's probably been the best NSV of them all. -
NSV shout outs
carolyn24seven replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Tiffy, you are sooo good to post these great little NSV's. It really makes me think when ever I have a "giggly"moment. Kinda like a stop and smell the roses deal. Thanks for the reminders. -
It is a small NSV, but less than a week out from surgery I was really impressed. Yesterday was the first time in years that I didn't have dents in my shins where the top of my socks had been all day. My extermities are the areas that are showing it the most, but I was very excited to see my feet and ankles not swollen after a day of work. Bill

Tiffy that is funny! I have never tried to float. I haven't been in a bathtub since my daughter was born 28 years ago and my mom said I could't take a shower cause I just had a C section and I might fall down. The best NSV by far for me has been my ball room dance classes. It's so much fun and there is no way I could ever have done this 100 lbs heavier! I am having a blast and dancing makes me so happy!

I was banded on the 17th, and progressed pretty quickly from liquids to mushies to solids (albeit soft solids). My food intake right now is about 3/4 - 1 cup, and I am feeling restriction, even though there is no fluid in my band. I don't go for my first fill until Feb. 2. My surgeon is pretty strict on 6 weeks before first fill, to give your stomach complete opportunity to heal. After that, he will fill you as your hunger dictates. My second fill will be on Feb. 8, as he says the first fill doesn't last long at all. I'm hoping my current restriction lasts as I've been doing really well with the weight loss. In fact, I was nicely surprised this morning when I stepped on the scale to see I had lost another 3.5 pounds. Also, as I was dressing for work this morning, I could button one of my jackets another button, where I normally leave the top 3 buttons undone because it's too tight. And the jacket fits so much looser! What a great NSV! (non scale victory) I'm also trying to eat like I was when I was on my pre-op diet (high protein, low carb solid foods). Although I'm not restricting myself to 30 grams of carbs a day, I'm still trying to get in lots of protein and keep my carbs under 150 grams. I have been out to dinner once - had to have some chinese food. Otherwise, all of my meals have been home cooked (well, except when I had my hubby bring home some refried beans, shredded chicken, cheese, onions, tomotoes and a tostada shell from his restuarant). I think that in and of itself has helped bring the weight off because before I started my pre-op diet, I was eating out at least once every single day. I have also started incorporating exercise into my routine. This is helping too with the weight loss. I'm doing my Wii Fit Plus and Walk Away the Pounds videos. Good luck!

Nikki, everything you are feeling is perfectly normal. I still catch myself automatically grabbing size 20W shirts, and pants, and I'm in a size 10, and in between a small to medium top. I don't understand it, I can't wrap my head around it some days. I think my head has a lot more catching up to do. People don't even recognize me who have known me for over a year, and I just laugh at them. I can't really see it myself, but did have an "ah ha" moment yesterday when cleaning out my closet. I got rid of 8 (yes 8) of the 39 gallon lawn and leaf Hefty bags full of clothes. John (the husband) was like "baby, are you sure you can't wear ANY of these clothes?" I picked up a random pair of jeans size 24W, slid them on, and I could look down inside of the pantsand see my toes in the leg of the pants. They were so big on me, and I have no idea why I was holding onto them. My clothes brought me lots of comfort, and I took pride in my appearance even when I was 270lbs. Getting rid of those clothes, help me purge those feelings of being fat. Trying on those size 10's today felt great, and it was a moment that I won't forget. Hang in there. You'll see the results. Try on some of your old clothes, and really see the difference. Numbers on the scale only do so much for me, I need those little NSV's to get me through. Also, have you tried different brands of jeans. If not, I highly recommend trying some different brands, you'd be surprised with how different some of them are cut.

I also have new NSV. (love these things!) Whenever I went grocery shopping or even to Walmart, I grabbed the nearest cart and hung on for dear life, I manged to log quite a lot of mileage that way. Today, I noticed, I grabbed a carry basket at the grocery store without even thinking, and did my usual trek around and up and down the aisles without any discomfort and when I navigated Walmart today I parked a ways back so I could get the extra walking and never even looked at a cart, just put my choices in my shopping bag and then I realilzed, I didn't even need a cart - anywhere! Yeah! My back can finally handle the weight around my middle for an extended lenght of time! Almost 40 lbs makes that kind of difference! What a relief! Also getting through a day of housework full bore without feeling exhausted! Had a family over for a turkey dinner yesterday so went all out from morning til bedtime. Gotta love the sleeve!

Well, I hope everyone had a stupendous Christmas and New year!! I thought I'd share some of my successes since having my surgery Nov. 2. I'm down 50 lbs! Woot! I can bend over and tie my shoes without breaking a sweat! I can run again! And with no pain! I'm down to a size 16 pants, and almost ready for a 14! I'm so happy.

This is sort of a NSV....I can't think of a better thread to put it on and I really wanted to post it... My son's on his way to Sydney for the 2010 Scout Jamboree. Today we packed his bag and his luggage allowance was 23kg. He filled his bag and put it in the boot of the car and was saying how heavy it was and he wouldn't like to carry it very far...that's when I realised.... 5 months into my banded life that's how much weight I have lost - 23kg. I've a long way to go still but I couldn't believe how heavy it was or how far and long I had carried it on my own. To feel the weight of it and be able to understand it rather than it just being a number that was part of me, weight I had to lose or had put on or needed to lose or whatever else that figure has always been in the past. It felt really good to know what it actually felt like, to realise that was how much I was NOT carrying anymore. I really, really, really wanted to tell all the other parents the significance of the 23kg bags they were all helping their Scouts to handle. I know they would just have looked at me without understanding what it meant to me. So instead of telling them I am posting it here to tell you guys as I know you will understand how I felt about it and why it was so important to me. It was like a revelation, a realisation. If you do not know what your loss feels like I would strongly recommend filling a bag with books to match the weight you have lost. If you are struggling or feeling like nothing is moving fast enough it is a real boost to realise how far you have already come and that it is ok to rest a while. Have a safe and happy 2010

Jessica, One of my most precious and memorable NSVs was having my 8 year old son give me a hug and say "wow Mom, I can wrap my arms all the way around now and touch my hands together". You just don't always realize how your being overweight affects them too. At first I thought I was being a bit selfish for spending the money to do have this surgery (not so much I considered not doing it) But now, I see what a benefit my weight loss has been to my entire family. Happier, healthier mommy = happier, healthier family.

Hee hee... thanks for the compliments. It did feel good wearing something sexy for once. Darn... I should have had dh take a picture. lol Next time. Bmooney, fantastic! I know you must be feeling great! :wink5: Rebecca, congrats on size 14! And, just like you, I am taking bags and bags of clothes to the thrift store tomorrow (want to get them in for a tax deduction before the end of the year). Funny thing is, 75% of them I bought from the same thrift store! :w00t: Since I started losing weight, I hate buying things full price, and we have a fab thrift store near us that has really nice clothes. Keep those NSVs coming! I love to hear them! :tongue2:

Great work on the mileage! Truly inspirational. Keep taking measurements. Stay the course. The pounds will fall off eventually. You're doing so well. I'm pleased to see you are using various methods to measure your success. (We call those Non-Scale Victories--aka NSV's) I think you're about 3 months post-surgery, give or take. You're going through the exact same things I did at that point. Give it time. Keep up the outstanding work! It will happen.....keep us posted. Happy New Year!!
