  1. Heya Annie, did you not get my pm to you??! lol How you doin? 44pnds that's awesome!! Well done! I haven't skipped a period but mine are irregular anywayz as I have the implanon in, but prior to being banded when I lost a lot of weight before, I didn't get a period for a while. I was told by my doc it was cause of the weight loss, it messes with your hormones. It could also be stress (that has happened to me before too!) I just googled it and found this list ... Why do some women's periods stop altogether (amenorrhoea)? Periods can stop for a number of reasons. The most common are: pregnancy. premature menopause (this can affect women in their early twenties). weight loss. weight gain. some forms of medication including the contraceptive pill or injections. drug abuse. stress. hormonal imbalances such as an underactive thyroid gland or the overproduction of a hormone called prolactin. a condition called polycystic ovaries is a very common cause of irregular or absent periods.

    Tattoos...

I got a tattoo on my foot about two years ago. The tatt artist told me that weight won't effect the foot tatt, much. Actually, weight loss can make a tatt look better. Unlike weight gain where it is stretched. Why did I choose my foot? I figured it was the one place on the female body gaurenteed not to sag

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Ezma - Your attitude is great. Kepp it up. A trip to California sounds great - poarticularly when your house is undergoing renovations! Who needs that chaos?? Enjoy! EXACTLY!!!! YAY you! Hi Jul. And welcome! We are here to support you - we alll know EXACTLY what you are talking about. We have good days, bad days, plateaus, weight gains, frustrations, and milestones! It's all part of the process, and I find posting here a big help! Keep posting, and we'll give you are words of wisdom/experience. To quote one of our more steadfast memebers: just keep swimming! Lori's back - YEAH!!!! And such a positive message too! Glad you had a great vacation, and those pounds you gained will be gone again - get back in the groove, Lori! Im hoping to take some vacation in September, and sure as shootin' I'll gain a few pounds - so until then I want to be REALLY careful to allow myself some 'wiggle room'. Not that I am losing any weigt; I think I am where I am going to remain (unless I have some plastic surgery). YAY Ezma! Maybe it was just a reaction of being away from stressors - your entire system just took a deep breath and relaxed and somehow this translated into a weight loss. You've had a very rough past few months; maybe your body was holding onto the fat as a defence or something. Who knows. Don't questions it - go with it!!!! Oh CKK - I hope things are ok. Have you gone to the Doc? If yes, what did he/she say? If not, are you planning too? Tell us how you are doing. That is just so FABULOUS LilMiss! The right fill makes all the difference - so glad that you reached this spot, and that you haven't given up on yourself or the band. Small fills and only as required. Not too tight. Talking to the group was probably good for you AND the group. Sometimes we need to hear it from another bandster NOT the doc/nurse/nutritionist. We need to hear it from ourselves (so to speak) to finally hear the message. TOO TIGHT IS NOT GOOD. And of course, starting over is always an option. ALWAYS! This is a lifetime commitment and so we have a lifetime to work with it to be successful. I'm here. I've been feeling sorry for myself or something. Just have had the 'blahs'. The 'why bother to post, no one cares' moodies. I'm over it now. I think. Shiny/RSG/ST Louis/Jaime where are you?????

Mobo: Welcome to our little group, there certainly is lots of information on this site. I to feel like that I can eat alot, I have had 2 fills. I can't wait to find my sweet spot and really be able to use the band for all it is meant to be. Contact your Dr and see if time for another fill, my Dr. thinks you need a fill once a month (but only a small amount) but each Dr is different. Remember we all have different reasons for our weight gain and loss, so just keep pushing toward the healthier you! With time we will make it in end and it will be so worth it! Good luck to you

To Tell ....or not to tell

Weight loss AND weight gain is very personal.... But I chose to tell only a select few int he beginning... of course my employer, because I was already out on a LOA- but wanted to explain my decision. I HAD to improve my life to be able to continue to work. I didn't even tell my kids until a few weeks before the surgery so I could get transportation to the hospital!!:blushing: When I did go back to work... I had lost about 25 pounds, and people noticed "something different" I decided to tell whoever asked... there is not "Secret Cure" for losing weight, and I wsn't trying to "fool" anyone... I felt that at least I was in controll of what was said. Alot of people didn't even notice until i lost a signifigant amount! And would ask how I did it... well.. working in retail.. i figured by the time I told ONE person... the whole store would know it! But I have alot of support there.... people I didn't think would support my decision have! The only problem with people knowing that you had weight loss surgery is they all say " don't get tooo thin" That TOO... is a personnal decision. And thats what i tell them. They have only known me as obese... so of course seeing me lose weight is different for them too. Chancie

    7 weeks pregnant

Please don't feel guilty for depriving your baby. The baby will rob mom of everything that he/she needs. That means, if you weren't consuming enough Calcium (for example) the baby will not hesitate to take it from your body (i.e. your bones). Also, it is well documented that you only need an additional 300 calories/day to grow a baby and that need exists mainly in the 3rd trimester. Finally, excess weight and too fast weight gain is stressful to both mom and baby. I think you made a good decision for yourself and your baby. IMHO
  9. I need your advice.... I got my lap band refilled about 2 weeks ago, although I have started to lose weight again, I am getting leg cramps at night, the shakes and I have had a bout of mastits. I am also starting to feel emotionally unstable. My husband thinks I am not eating enough and thats contributing to my state of mind and also to the fact my baby does not seem settled. Both my obgyn and band doctor think I am eating enough. I really want to maintain breast feeding. My husband wants me to get my fill removed and say "screw" it to weight gain during breast feeding and worry about it later. What do y'all reckon

3 weeks post op and so depressed

Good for you. I got my band to help with GERD and weight gain from that. I've never been skinny, so I am ok with that slow part. Yes, it is unusual for them to only fill you every three months, at least for here. They filled me at four weeks and want to do fills every month. Because of the GERD, the fills have to be small and they warned me I would just lose slower. Losing slowly vs feeling like you are having a heart attack, I'll pick the former. That and it's coming off with the real possibility of not coming back. Hearten up on that!

    Group- 5 day Pouch Test

The water may be an issue for me. Over the last 2 days I have probably had only half what I am supposed to drink...32 ounces. Maybe that is it. You are so right about the "might as well eat this" attitude. I am so guilty of that. But not this time. I have really stuck with this 5dpt plan. That is why I was so freaked out. I did do everything I was supposed to do and gained weight the first day and then didn't lose anything the second day. I will really work at getting in 64 ouces of water. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. I have lost over 100 pounds and most of the time I only drank 32 ounces of water a day. But there really isn't anything else I can try. Today should be easier as I get to eat Protein. Those first two days were hard! And it does feel like my pouch is tighter already. But I just can't get past the weight gain. Well, I will keep on keepin' on. I plan to swim today too. So thanks for all the ecouraging words.

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Oh yeah Tina, that's what I was like! It affected me for almost half the time - almost 2 weeks (usually about 10 days) before my period. . . then I would SUDDENLY get all better, and Aunt Flo would knock about 4 hours later! It was MISERY I finally went on progesterone to counter it, that worked pretty well but led to - guess what! - weight gain!! But yeah we all have a buttload of estrogen floating around in our systems right now because we are burning fat and that is where estrogen is stored . . . . but I think mine must be winding down, because I have less chin hair now! LOL!!!

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Okay now that I got through all of those... I can honestly say the only frustration I have at this point is being able to get in more calories, because honest to god I'm not hungry at all. RNY was the BEST decision for ME! Am I worried about weight gain? Not at all, why? Because my mom had it 6 years ago and she has bad habits. I don't drink - I'm allergic to wine and sulfates I won't test the sugars I WONT eat fried foods, at this point and later one I'd be too scared to dump and don't want to find out if I will. I don't take pain killers, other drugs etc. I'm educated, I go to the post op classes and talk to other RNYers. Is it a concern in the future, yes, but I'm not worried about it. Again, I post on here, because I've been here since way before and I said I'd stick around. I think my RNY case is different than a lot of people's because I did lose a lot of weight prior to surgery and a lot slower. But I had to go through the same thing as all the lapbanders do pre-surgery. All the surgeons are great, Baggs was my discharge surgeon after surgery. Sorry if you all thought I wasn't being honest, but I have nothing to hide. Recovery has been amazing, i'm loving my new body, my new life and everything in between. We go horseback riding on Monday and we're planning on sky diving soon too because I'm small enough to do that. Did I work my ass off to lose the 30lbs yea I did, I gave up a lot too, and my recovery should have been harder with a 2 year old in a body cast, but we recovered together. I think the band is an awesome alternative to the RNY. It is less invasive and adjustable. I however wanted something permanent.

    Birth Control=dapo shot anyone?

I have been on DepoProvera for more than 10 years. I have had no side effects. If there is weight gain, it is minimal and mostly Water. I also don't have to suffer with having periods. In the beginning there were some spotting and breakthrough bleeding issues but they went away fairly quickly. I have had no depression or anything else...mostly bliss since I have no periods and don't even have to go to the dr's office for shots. My niece is an RN and gives them to me. Whatever you decide, good luck! Happy Banding, The Pool Girl

    Birth Control=dapo shot anyone?

Weight gain can be a side effect, but that goes along with any birth control. Most of the weight gain is water weight, because you have a higher rate of retaining it. I don't reccomend the depo shot, and mainly because the doctor I work for tells all our patients that Depo has been known to cause "depression and anxiety." Good luck!
  16. I am just wandering is anyone else gets the dapo birth control shot the one you get every 3 months, I am considering getting the shot only problem is that my obgyn says weight gain is a side effect.

    brain vs. stomach hunger

I use to be skinny, in fact very unhealthy type skinny, and it wasn't from lack of eating. My sister loves to remind me of the 6 hot dogs I'd eat and not gain an ounce. I went out of my way well into my 30's trying to gain, then boom it slowly started hitting me. I really believe all those years of eating things I didn't like but because someone said they were high in calories and they would help me gain I ate....I developed some seriously bad habits so as my metabolism and life style slowed down the weight gain increased big time. No more anorexic looking skinny but instead a bery unheathy unable to do much fat chick. Right now my biggest problem is hubby like to come home, eat dinner play on our computers for a little while then watch tv together till he falls asleep. I unfortunately associate that time with snack time. I found out quickly that air popped popcorn and chex mix could easily be eaten around the band. I also gained six pounds doing it, ok so I did throw in some carrot cake as well telling myslef I deserved it I've done well. When I got on the scale and saw the 6 lbs back I wanted to cry. Thankfully I worked really hard and got rid of them fast. I've been stuck for awhile now and actually feel very restriceted, I know that I was eating around my band. I've made a pact to give up the pop corn and chex mix, substitute sugar free pop sickles and lettuce salad for a week. So far I've lost a new 1 1/2 lbs. It will be 6 months on the 23rd and I still fight with head hunger but seeing that scale get off the # its been stuck at by simply making a deal with myself not to eat around my band for a week. Not sure what I will try next but I too would love to hear how to get past triggers and head hunger
  19. I had my first official weight gain of 3#'s at the doctors office. I haven't done very good at all. I got a .5cc fill and I think I am about to my sweet spot. I rediscovered mashed potatos and it got me a lecture at the doctors office. I think I was rebelling a little because I miss eating some foods. I am afraid I am going to be a little to tight but I am going to hang in there until it loosens up a little. I don't want any taken out because I am afraid of a gain. Hope everyone has a great week.
  20. Am I the only one that is going through weight loss/weight gain in cycles around my monthly adjustments? Is it a first few months thing or is it something I am doing? I have lost 60 lbs so far and when I get an adjustment, I do really well, though I really have never felt much restriction. I keep hoping the doc will get aggressive since I have had no issues with vomiting or even coming close. Does all this eventually level out?

    I don't care: A Michael Jackson Rant

Kat, as always...you clearly have a way of expressing what others are maybe thinking but cannot put into words. On the steroids...I was on them for 5.5 yrs. Really raised havoc and contributed to a lot of my weight gain. Helped with the symptoms I was dealing with but also helped add the pounds (along with the fork in my hand).

The belief that WLS will prevent one from recurring weight gain is a complete myth. You still have to do the right things to achieve it. Not over-eating (depends what your eating as well), maintaining a good physical workout routine etc. You CAN over-eat with the band and any other WLS. It's not fool proof, so people, please don't fool yourselves.

    August Bios

Hi, My name is Melonie, and I am from Calgary Canada. I am having my surgery in Toronto. I have struggled with weight most of my adult life, but have recently struggled more due to an injury to the cartilage in my knee. I have developed osteoarthritis and my lack of mobility has really fueled my weight gain. I am at my highest weight ever, 5'1" and 258! I only made my decision last week, and as I am self pay, they gave me a date of august 11th. I was in shock. A lot to get my head around in such a short time, but probably for the best as I would worry too much with a long wait. Good luck to all of you fellow August bandsters, I am looking forward to seeing how we all get along. Melonie
  24. We can't really say for sure whether you need to do more ab exercises without knowing what you are doing now. But one thing you can do to make your workout more effective if you are not already doing it, is to make sure you keep your ab muscles tight as possible during your entire workout routine whether you are working your abs, legs, arm or doing cardio. It is hard to remember to keep up but it is effective. It helps to tighten your abs and improve posture. I actually had the opposite problem, my scale wouldn't budge but I was noticing my clothes getting looser. But the same problem as far as losing last in the stomach. It has always been the first area to show weight gain and it has been the last area to shrink and it is mainly genetics. My decision to continue to lose weight past my goal is because I still carry a little bit of a gut but I have been persistent and it is slowly going away.

    Weight Goals

During my initial consult, I was given a questionaire about weight gain, eating habits and goals. I set my goal at 200lbs and the PA said my goal was very conservative. Their goal weight for me is 177lbs...so, I decrease my goal to 190lbs...still conservative, I guess but, I'd be darn happy with it. They do use a formula to come up with your goal weight.
