Hi everyone, my 26th Birthday is coming up in less than one month 1/16. I have been doing great with my weight loss…down 80lbs from August 2013. I really wanted to meet up at a local club/bar here in Orange County, CA to Celebrate but I don’t know how I am going to handle the drinks and scene. I feel great and look great. Does anyone have any ideas? Part of me wants to have a few drinks, celebrate, show off my new self (haha) but then I know I really shouldn't.

Protein Bars ? Do you ?
CowgirlJane replied to TrailriderJulia's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Julia - what kind of trail rider are you? I ride horses pretty much exclusively a trail rider these days! I think Quest are the most palatable for the nutrition profile. Premier Protein bars don't taste very good but are high protein. I think Protein Bars are fine, but I give my standard warning to not let them become too much of a "habit". Over time, I realized I was sort of abusing them, using them almost like a candy bar substitute - I like the Quest ones that much. Quest bars are cheaper if you can find a special and buy them by the box, but I learned that I can't have something that tasty in the house, in large quantities and not expect me to eat 1-2 per day which is just more than I need. When my weight loss stalled around 7-8 months out my NUT immediately zeroed in on my behavior with those bars and she was right. Now, I do sometimes use a quest bar as a meal substitute, but I buy 1-2 to have on hand, not one or two boxes. -
Some people absorb vitamins, minerals and other nutrients more optimally than others. Simply put, I need my supplements because I don't absorb them well from food. Due to hypothyroidism, I'm prone to multiple deficiencies (zinc, vitamins A, B12 and D, iron, etc). I've been deficient in thiamine (vitamin B1) 1 year post-op and required an injection, so I supplement with a vitamin B complex in addition to whatever else I take. I also had deficiencies in vitamins A and D prior to weight loss surgery, so I take those. I'm black. Vitamin D deficiency runs rampant in the black community. Our people need triple the sun exposure time to produce enough vitamin D naturally due to darker skin pigmentation, so I'll supplement with it for life. Blacks also have magnesium deficiency more often than those from other racial/ethnic backgrounds. The moral of the story is that some of us need supplements to avoid nutritional deficiencies.

In an effort to lose weight using Chris Powell endorsed Bod-e products by Vemma, I discovered the protein drink called Bod-e Burn. Has lots of good vitamin stuff in it and boasts 20 g of protein for 6 oz... comes premixed in a can. Really pricey, but I loved the taste (sort of mango/orange/little bitter). However, I am not sure it would be considered a "clear" liquid... tastes like a juice but can't see through it... anyone know what is a "clear" liquid? Also, it is slightly carbonated... would that be a no no?

Hi, I am new here and scared shitless. I did so well for so long, even when my eating became more or less normal. I didn't go back to binging, but I wasn't sticking to the plan. I have slowly been allowing my weight to creep up. I didn't worry I guess because I still felt good, my clothes felt good, I felt sexy, I am active.....but now my size 10 jeans are tight, I really see the weight in my pictures, and I FEEL like that fat girl is trying to reemerge. I am trying desperately to get back on a plan, shrink my pouch, protein first, no sugar......but I am spiraling out of control. I can't be that girl again, I don't want to live at all if it has to be fat. I guess I just needed to say it. No one else in my family is heavy or ever has been. No one understands what it feels like to be addicted to food.

Tricare...friend or foe?
tylee72198 replied to d1marie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Tricare Prime South, and I was approved within 1 day of the surgeons submitting it. I was actually shocked I got approval that fast. I have high blood pressure and am pre-diabetic. From what I could figure for the 200%, you take the ideal weight and multiply it by 2. That should give you the 200% number. If you are over that, then you are over 200%. -
Tricare...friend or foe?
lntwalters replied to d1marie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had borderline diabetes with a family history. Tricare was great. I was approved within a day. I did have to call to check. My bmi was 42, my weight for my height was right at the approval mark and I was told not to lose any weight till surgery or I may not be approved. I had the surgery within 2 weeks! My post-op and fills were not a problem either. From your history I do think you will be approved. Good luck! :smile2: -
Had a sleeve 1 year ago! Still Haven't lost!
feedyoureye replied to sleevinIT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Once in a while someone has a bad surgery... leaving the stomach too big. Have you had an image taken of your current sleeve to see whats up there? Once that is proven to be ok (or not) you can double down on an eating plan. Please do go back to your Dr, or see if you can go to another if possilbe if you have lost confidence in her. And yes, use Myfitnesspal, protein first, and drink all your water! I took 3 years to get to goal, so its not all fast and easy for many. I was at around 50 pounds at a year. I had to just keep going on, and tried some different things... I tryed the 5:2 which got me to goal after gaining 20 pounds.... at this time I am up around 13 pounds from goal again.... trying the 5 day pouch test, and have lost 5 pounds of water weight in two days so far. Just keep on trying girl! Don't give up.... I know when i try and just be "normal" and eat how I used to, without keeping track of what I eat.... I GAIN. -
Hi Kathy, Since you are a forum veteran, I'd like to suggest you go to www.bonesmart.org to get better acquainted with others going through knee replacements. I have had four replacements in total and Bonesmart has been an excellent resource for me. You are right that knee replacements are not the easiest thing to go through and it really takes a full year to recover from. I wish you well with both your continued weight loss and your upcoming replacement. Oh and by the way, it seems common that most have one difficult knee replacement and one easy one. Hopefully you got the difficult one over with first.

Did your sex life change?
kakatlady612 replied to Marissa37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Probably shouldn't puzzle on this cause I've been widowed for 5 1/2 years but a lighter weight and slimmer body would help you get into the contortions you had trouble achieving before. My PCP, the impertinent elf, asked me recently "Are you still sexually active?" I looked him right in the eye and said "No -but I live in hope!" Score one for the Senior Team! Jealous Boyfriend
RestlessMonkey replied to MustLooseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think jealousy is controlling and can't abide it, myself. Good grief; you've only lost 1/4 or so of your weight (great though that is) WTH would he do once you've lost about 1/2? Locked you up in a room a la some weirdo slasher flick or something? It's HIS problem; he needs to deal with it. You did the right thing. Relationships cannot function without trust. Well, dysfunctional relationships can thrive with jealousy and drama but that doesn't sound like what you want. Don't feel guilty. And next time, DO flirt with the roofer, if he's cute. -

Second Fill No Weight Loss
highland replied to Wishingtobesmall's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My first thought would be to ask does "great restriction" to you mean too tight? Some people get too tight and conciously, or subconciously begin eating sliders. If that's the case you need to make certain you're getting in lots of dense protein. This will keep you full longer and help with the urge to snack. I can't think of any other reason you would not be losing weight with great restriction. Remember restriction is not the inability to eat, but the ability to eat most healthy foods and be satisfied on less of it for long periods of time. Best luck to you as you continue on this GREAT Journey!!!! -

Starting Journey for conversion from Band to Bypass
Amyj72 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, My name is Amy. I had the band on 8/24/10, I lost almost 50 pounds with the band but never reached my goal because I had a lot of problems. I kept having to have fluid put in and out, I put up with reflux WAY TOO LONG because I didn't want more fluid removed because I was gaining weight. I ended up with an esophageal ulcer and became anemic from it. I had all the fluid removed in early 2017. I am almost back to my pre-surgery weight of 256. I am very unhappy with my weight and it is making me depressed. My insurance recently approved a conversion from band to bypass. I need to wait to build up some time off at work so I am looking at sometime early next year for surgery. Having the surgery makes me nervous but reading your posts here are helpful. -
3 months banded-65 pounds down- oh and a skin question too:)
mbranham0306 replied to mellabella78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I just passed my 3 month anniversary also (surgery on July 10, 2009). I've lost 65 pounds too. I'm not sure about your skin but mine is terrible! I'm not sure it will shrink because I was chubby even as a child and have been overweight ever since. I'm going to start a good core workout next week and trying to use weights now. I'm hoping that'll help because my insurance won't pay for plastic surgery of course! I'm really excited and happy about my weight loss and my experinece so far! You're done wonderfully! Awesome job!:blushing: -
Just banded Yesterday May 17th 2010... I am sick as a dog!!
iwokeupfat replied to ChocolateDream81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 3. Anesthesia is NOT my friend. I had 3 tough days of pain and nausea, then it passed. I slept sitting up in a comfy chair for a few days. I would call the doc if you are concerned that this isn't normal. I'm doing great now. Just had my 2nd week follow up appt. and I'm going in next week for my first fill. I'm down 10 pounds in 2.5 weeks. I feel pretty good. My knees are killing me from trying to walk and exercise a bit. I'm hoping that will subside once I get some of the weight off of them. Good luck to you... and I hope you feel better. -

There is no way any of you are actually "hungry" the desire you have to eat is an emotional one and one of the reasons we ended up over weight in the first place. Your stomach is incapable of sending hunger signals at this point, which is why you should be drinking using a schedule. Think of yourself like a baby. In the first few weeks they will drink up they spit up if you let them. Eventually their stomachs and brains connect and they are able to cry when hungry and stop when full. We aren't there yet at 1,2, 3 weeks out. This battle is more mental than physical at this stage. Don't let your food addiction win Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Surgery is never a quick fix. I haven't had mine yet, but I am going into it knowing it by no means is quick, magic pill, cure all. It's a tool. A tool to aid you. Water retention is not actual weight gain. I learned from my classes that the only cure for water retention is by drinking enough water. Your body holds on to it when it isn't getting enough. I honestly would seek out a support group at nearby university hospital that does bariatric surgery. I'd also find a therapist asap for emotional support and to address the psychological reason for your weight. Your cravings sound psychological to me. I already go to support group, and have my own therapist who by chance had weight loss surgery and failed several years ago. The realities are 95% of all people that lose significant weight loss go on to regain if they do not stick with the program. Any attempt at weight loss especially surgery will be the most difficult journey of your life. To become a butterfly the caterpillar had to transform itself. Hang in there. Stick to the diet, drink water, get your Protein like you have been. Most hunger is actually thirst so always keep that in mind. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

Now i'm Terrified
Down South Aussie replied to jesslynn32288's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know what your saying, now that surgery is a real possibility i had to take a real serious look at if this is the right choice, could i try and diet harder or exercise more, what type of financial hardship is this going to put my family under? But then i take a step back and i look at the fact that im floating around 300lbs, i have high blood pressure, i have high cholesterol, i have diabetes, i have back issues and now my liver is beginning to have issues. I have tried and i have lost and then i have gained back. Then comes the whole financial issue but i look at that and the reality is what type of financial situation am i putting my family in if i am not around in a few years. My wife and i Have discussed it and as someone else pointed out it comes down to risk vs benefit and while there can be complications there is also benefits, one of which is a longer life with my family. I often travel in my job so when 9-11 happened and the reality of the fact that that i could have been on those planes hit home for me and my family we had to make the decision of do we do everything we can to avoid risk or do we do everything we can to enjoy every moment we have together. We chose to do everything we can to enjoy every moment we have together. So for me i am moving forward with my plans. I wish you all the best in your efforts and lifestyle change be that from a surgical intervention or from a change in your diet and exercise. Weigh up your options consult the experts and make a decision based on the facts, but whatever you do dont let your fears rule you. Go in the direction you go in because you feel that is the best option and not simply because you are afraid of the other option.
