New to site and just learning.

I am so confused................ 64 ounces, no carbonation, no sports top. You need to drink16 ounces of milk a day for the Calcium and protien. AND you cannot drink during meals. So does this mean no more cold Cereal? OR is that a no no anyway? And what about Soup, like lentil and veggies? 64 ounces - good grief. I guess I really need to meet with the Nutritionist. She make my appointment 2 weeks before my surgery. I guess I need to write my questions down so I don't forget them, I get very nervous when I see the Dr
  2. I have been reading about "bandster hell" and "sweet spot". Overfills - stretching etc. Cheating and Straying. I thought I knew enough but suddenly feel less confident. Can you all break down your experiences from post surgery through the 1st fill. Please give me the good, the bad, and the ugly (and despite being gross, was really funny). Also, tell me what you wished your docter or friends would have said regarding their experience. Thanks a bunch!

    Expected Weight Loss?

As far as my mini goals, I just looked at other people on here and how fast they lost after surgery and tried to come up with something reasonable. I assume I'll lose 7 or 8 lbs during 2 week liquid pre-op. That means I would need to lose about 10 lbs in the first month to get to my onederland goal. My next goal is 23 lbs in 3 more months, that may be too aggressive....I am typically a slow loser. But I'm not going to get too hung up on that.....I set the goals for it to be fun, not so I can get down if I don't quite make it that fast. I have hope and that sustains me.
  4. Hi... How was your first day back to work? I took two weeks off and am returning to work tomorrow.

    hello everyone

Hi, I finallly decided to stop blaming everyone else for my weight problem, stop comforting myself with food when things were stressful, and stop waiting for someone else to go exercising with me. I gave up on trying to change other people and decided to accept things as they really are (instead of how I'd like them to be). I got banded Sept 3, 2008 by Dr Michaelson at the NW Weight Loss Surgery center in Everett. The first 2 days after banding I was really sorry I had it done, because I hurt. But that passed fairly quickly. Now I am really glad I had it done. The band is an excellent tool to keep me from having that piece of cake or chocolate bar "just this once". I have been sticking to the diet and have lost 16 pounds (in 5 weeks) since surgery, in addition to the 14 pounds prior to surgery. That makes 30 pounds total in 2 months. I don't anticipate that I will be losing 15 pounds each & every month, but as long as I continue in the right direction EVENTUALLY I will be down to a healthy weight. I admit there have been times when I really wanted to cheat on the diet, but I don't want to have another operation to clear a clog, nor do I want to throw up, so it really helps me stick to the diet. My biggest challange is drinking enough water. I need to fill a quart bottle & drink from that so I know how much I'm drinking each day. I continue to see a counselor to learn new techniques for dealing with stress (other than eating). And I'm learning to put myself first sometimes. It's going to be a long process, but "the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step". Jan

    Panicking A Little

UGH. I have to go to a benefit "ladies' lunch" today. I'm 2 weeks out, so there will be nothing I can eat. Any good ideas for how to make it less obvious that I'm pushing food around on my plate? Should I just fake a seizure or something? This is my second benefit since surgery. Went to one last week but because I was running it was able to bring my own Soup which they served with the meal.
  7. Hi Forum, I am new to the site and wanted to share that I had my VSG surgery on June 4th. I selected Dr. Atkinson from Las Vegas Weight Control Center and had my surgery at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. From pre-op to 2 days post-op I am happy with the service I received from the LVWCC and Desert Springs Hospital. They were all very caring, informative and the post-op recovery was amazing. The nurses at Desert Springs (Tessie, Dena, Kim, Meghan) were great. My journey started several months ago after I was so disgusted with myself, nutrition and inconsistent weight loss results. I am a 38 year old male, who is 6'2 and pre-op was 325 lb. I have struggled my entire life with weight loss and obesity. I have tried everything from exercise (which helped) but it alone was not enough, Nutri System, Injections and in the end they all delivered failed results or inconsistent weight loss for me. As a result, I developed depression and struggled with other aspects of life as I felt I was being consumed by weight. Often times, friends family, etc would say "you look good", "you don't need surgery" and "you carry the weight well" This never helped and it only made me feel worse. Several months back, my partner suggested that I reconsider VSG because initially I was scared of the procedure. After weeks of consideration I took the steps to schedule my consult with LVWCC and Dr. Atkinson. He was calm, not pushy and answered all of my questions making me feel at ease. I had a bad experience with another local doctor who used the term "fillet me", which made me feel uncomfortable. I was a cash pay customer, so I didn't have the many insurance hurdles that are required. What I can tell you is that 2 days post-op I feel good, with only minor stomach pain. Thus far, I think the worst part about the entire experience was waking up from the anesthesia, it was tough for me. I stayed one night in the hospital and had hiccups and belching...even with a lot of walking. Day 2, hiccups, etc are gone except for minor wound pain but i have been able to keep liquids down no problem. As my journey continues I will post additional information. For those considering the surgery, don't be scared but remember to find a surgeon that you are comfortable with. That is very important and will give you peace of mind. Any questions, please feel free to notify me. Chris

    Me and my libido

I was just the opposite. When I got home, I wanted sex. I tried to initiate. My husband said no until I had my first check up a week later. I wish I had more to tell you. I'm sure you can ask your doctor's team at your next visit. I'm sure they've heard this before and have a good answer for it.
  9. Nov 7th was my surg date. I have not stepped on the scale in 3 weeks. Been trying to get all my protein in. And today I step on the scale and gained 4 lbs. I heard of the stall, but the gain? I am do bummed because I'm going to my doc in one week and I will be so embarrassed when I step on that scale. Anyone have this happen?

    Belly wrap

I used an abdominal binder for a couple of weeks after surgery. I found it helpful to not have to use my hands to support my abdomen when moving around. They gave me the binder in the hospital. It also helps with swelling.

    Gained 4 lbs and bummed

My stall came with a weight gain, too. It was close to 3 pounds, I think? Since then I've had mostly loss, but occasionally I'll have a couple days where I don't lose, or a day where I put on a pound and take it right back off the next day. Bodies are strange >.>

    Going back work?

I would recommend taking as much time as you can. I was extremely lucky to be able to take a full six weeks. I was fortunate that I had no complications too, and my recovery was pretty much text book perfect. If pressed, physically, I probably could have gone back after one or two weeks. The hardest part was the exhaustion that stayed for about the first six weeks. It helped too having the extra time to get used to everything. It was very much like having a brand new gadget without the user manual to go with it. I still feel that way sometimes. ???? Unfortunately no one can predict how their recovery will go, but barring a major complication, you should be alright. Good luck!

    Bowling?

That depends on how heavy the ball is. You had your lower stomach stitched to your upper stmach, and the p[ort stitched to your inside wall, you wouldn't want to tear those stitches. I would wait 4-6 weeks. When in doubt, throw it out! It's just not worth all you've invested.

    Bowling?

My doc had me wait six weeks. Good luck.

    Getting Banded Friday!!

Good for you. Life will only get better. I was banded 2 months ago and it was a breeze. i am down 30 lbs and go to the gym 5 days a week. My biggest complaint right after surgery was the gas, but no biggie. My first fill will be Fri. and I am hoping it will help with my hunger. I chose to not get a fill the first month and work on changing my mindset but 900 cals a day is tough with no restriction but I am doing it. It is kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy, the more you lose the easier it is to give up the food because you see results and then you want to move more and so on. The bills are now coming in and that is a pain but worth every penny. Best of luck and keep us posted.

    1yr Today I Change Me!!!

Kathy, i know how you feel i still love food, i found talking to a dietican or food consoler helped teach me how not to turn to food when i wasnt havent a good day, but food was my life, I still eat most foods i did in past but in very small portions now. Another reason i had my surgery done on Nov 2nd was so i could atleast have mush foods at thanksgiving (fat guy) always thinking.. LOL Its not easy believe me you have to get yourself saying I can do this, Food will not run my life anymore!!! If you stumble get back up and start the next day... But please follow what your doctor says you dont want any complications, i have read others eating different foods at different weeks, stick with what your doctor feels is right for his patiants.. Good Luck God Bless!!!

    What is an EKG?

Thanks for the info - now I understand. I am booked for August 21 in Mississauga, Ontario so I hope to get the tests done and results cleared in the next few weeks so I can finalize all my travel plans. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I am given the clean bill of health (in a matter of speaking) so I can get ready for my surgery

    One Month Out From Surgery

My surgeon requires a two week low-fat atkins diet to shrink my liver. I do not need to do the liquid diet, but cannot have any carbs. Hope this helps. Each surgeon is different with their requirements, but I believe that trying to shrink your liver is standard with all surgeons. You should check with your surgeon's office to find out what he requires you to do. Hope this helps!! Good luck!
  23. My sleeve date approaches quickly!! I've been on hear reading and noting things to do, not to do, things to eat. I'm most nervous about understanding my new routine, but I know it will all come together. Can't thank everyone on her enough for sharing your stories. They've helped me so much!!!
