    Passport Question

I applied in early August and had mine in time for my 8/30/10 surgery. I did not expedite. The summer rush is over, so turnaround is more like 3 wks right now than 4-6 they quote.
  2. I was sleeved on 10-14 and I've only lost 20 lbs since I started with the pre opt liquid diet. Is this normal? I haven't lost any lbs these last couple of weeks? Also I wasn't one to be cold I was always hot but lately I've been cold all the time. Is this normal?

    Cold all the time

I recently added a second comforter to my side of the bed! I get so cold at night, I wake up shaking. I mentioned this to a friend of mine, who happens to be a pro MMA fighter. He said when he's cutting weight before a fight (which can involve dropping 10 lbs in a weekend) he's cold too. And basically, what we are doing is similar to an extended weight-cutting. All that to say, I think it's a fairly common problem.
  4. Like Miss Mac, I had mine removed in an emergency surgery situation about 4 years before my sleeve. I would say just have it removed. Once the gall bladder starts getting "sick", it usually gets worse and not better. Easy surgery. In my opinion, it was less painful than the sleeve. And yes, you may have the squirts for a few months after if you indulge in more fatty foods, but you won't be doing that anyway, right? Oh, and let me add (and this is TERRIBLE), I lost 10 pounds post surgery

1 week out, down 9 lbs., Very weak!

In my experience this is typical. I felt good but week for a couple of weeks. I have low blood pressure and heart rate so my body forced me horizontal a lot. I’m 20 days out and just now feeling stronger. Make sure you’re hitting your fluid goal every day and then your protein. I had to work up to my protein a bit. Protein water helped me because I have a hard time drinking shakes. You’re healing from surgery. It takes a lot of energy for your body to do that. I had rapid weight loss in the first 10 days because of it.

Ten years with the Lap Band

How great to hear from someone with so much time banded! Glad you shared your anniversary!! I've wondered if there were any different issues with those banded for a long time, but haven't noticed anyone with 10 years behind them before. Thanks for blazing the way!! banded 1/29/07 Dr Ken Cleveland-CMMC-Jackson, MS

Has anyone else stopped losing weight?

I'm having the same problem! I've been banded for 2 wks and the first week I dropped 10lbs and then I gained 5 back but I've been very strict following the diet my dr gave me. I'm frustrated. I go for a fill on 6/19. I'm ready for it.
  10. I'd call your doctor tomorrow. I'm surprised you weren't given pain meds, and Aleve is an NSAID which I hear is a no no. Every dr is different, so I don't want to be too harsh with my judgement. I was taking my liquid Lortab three times a day for the first 5 days. Maybe I'm a wus With no spirometer, practice taking a deep breath for like 10 sections to slowly open up your lungs.

    Awesome NSV

5 MILES!! That is huuuuuuge girl!! From hardly being able to go to the mailbox?? Wow. WOW, way to be your own inspiration!! And I have to thank you because this really pounds into my head that I really have no excuse for not doing what I should be doing. So I'm going to finish perusing my online spots, finish having coffee, and at 10:00 I'm gonna shut this thing off, work out, then get on the treadmill and run. Yes, run -- something I tried dozens of times in my life and could never do. And YOU will be doing it too! I strongly advocate the Couch to 5K program. It's what finally worked for me (and I tried running not-fat lots of times too). Thank you for posting such inspiration and way to go!

Stand your ground and get the surgery you want. With RNY you won't be able to take NSAIDs if you ever need them and who knows what lies 10 or 20 years down the line. Also I view the dumping that 40% of RNYers experience as a bad thing as it really messes with your blood sugar levels and can make you crave stuff (although dumping if often promoted as a positive thing). See here for some reasons why you don't want RNY http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/4321339/Lurkers-Learn-Here-About-Your-Pyloric-Valve-informative/action,replies/topic_id,4321339/page,1/ If you need a revision from RNY that's a very complex surgery, whereas if you were to need one with VSG then you have a comparatively straight forward revision option. Good luck!

Still Under 30# To Goal- 23 Months Out

Stalls are normal for many. I did eventually lose my weight, now gained a little back, but all in all doing ok after 4+ years out. about 10 pounds up from goal. Best advice is use MFP, and write down what you eat every day, even if its crap. Get back onto Protein first, lower carbs (I never went to really low carbs), move, drink your Water, but not with meals... I keep it off by doing a semi fast one or two days a week. That is also how I got the last weight off after a very long stall. I used 5:2... find info on the vets forum. Best of luck... you are not even one year out, so expect to slowly lose the last part over the next year if you stay on track. It took me 3 years to get it all off.
  14. I experienced this with my last fill. The first two weeks I was able to eat liquids, but on the third week it just got worst. I had everything you described. It turned out that my band was too tight so they removed some cc's. I agree with you its not a good feeling. I did loose about 19 lbs. which I know its not healthy because I couldn't eat anything for a couple of days. Go to your doctor ASAP. Loosing that much weight is not worth risking your health.

ReadytoMaintain- I basically fit 12's & 14's depending on cut, material, and style of the garment. Sizes vary greatly, but I don't mind trying on clothes, so that's okay with me. I'm still having trouble convincing myself that this weight will not come back as soon as I'm done losing it like every other time. So far I've gotten rid of 24's through 16's. I think I might have to hold onto my 14's for a while, once I'm out of that size, until I can get my head around it or find someone in need (that always makes it easier). Congratulations on your loss so far, it won't be long before you're posting about your size 10's zipping up!

    What to say to Dr?

I was approved for WLS in 2005 and backed out 3 week from surgery date. I was scared and heard a lot of negative things. My weight has yo yoed since. I have asthma, high BP, sleep apnea, had knee surgery and constant back pain. I was also borderline diabetic. The surgeon who performed my gall bladder removal in Nov. 2018 suggested I reconsider WLS again. I attended his seminar and met with my PCP who pushed the Paleo diet to all of her patients. I tried it and was unsuccessful, she said she supported my decision and the rest of the process was easy. I have a great team, my PCP, surgeon and nutritionist were all helpful and supportive of my surgery. Gallbladder Removal

I had my gallbladder out at 19. I wasn't overweight at that time so with the first attack, the ER gave me pain medication and sent me home. The second attack had me thinking I was going to die so I made my "death bed" confessions to my mother, asked her to give my siblings certain things of mine and wrote a letter telling everyone how much I loved them. I passed out from the pain! Fortunately, the next ER decided to do an ultra-sound sound on my abdomen and I had 3 very large rocks in my gallbladder! Surgery was scheduled for a few days later. Now, besides having to answer to my parents for some of my confessed mischief, I think that having those attacks were the best thing that happened to me. From what I hear from others, the attacks happen more frequently and are worse. Had I known that I had gallstones, I would have never waited for the pain... it's not worth it. Get the surgery.

    Gallbladder Removal

I had my VSG surgery on October 6, 2011. Before Christmas I started having these weird pains that would start in my sternum and wrap around to between my shoulder blades. I seriously thought I was dying. I had two in December, 2 in January, a VERY bad one in February that drove me to vomiting and pretty much passing out in pain. Most of these only last about 20 minutes to an hour, so by the time I was ready to head to the ER, they were going away. I saw my doctor after that last one though. He told me what I was experiencing were gallbladder attacks. He said it was because of the drastic weight loss. Now my VSG surgeon had checked my gallbladder and said it looked good and was healthy! I was so frustrated to hear that I was now having problems with this. My doctor said that if I could handle the pain with the attacks and that if they weren't severe, I should probably wait to have it removed since I'd had VSG less than 5 months before. Well, Thursday March 29th, I had an attack that last nearly 16 hours and I ended up in the ER because I was out of my mind in pain. They found I had a stone lodged in the bile duct and it was causing problems with my liver and pancreas. I had emergency surgery to have the gallbladder removed and they swept the duct to get that stone out too. They were able to do this laproscopicly. Ends up I was filled with gallstones and several were marble size! I'm about 10 days out now and feel soooo much better! Please don't mess around with the gallstones. They can cause so much trouble with other organs that you DO need to survive!
  23. Hi I'm in the east bay. I had my surgery 01/07/14, in Oakland. If you need a buddy feel free to contact me or add me as a friend. That's one of the reasons I chose to not tell anyone. Don't need the negativity. I did this surgery for my health. Someone who has never been overweight can never sympathize with what we have gone through. It's so much more than not fitting in your jeans. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

    Stitches or Glued???

I hv 5 scars, they all had stiches that disolved. My dr. put this tape over them and he said they were healed when the tape fell off. I had my surgery on 10/18 and I only have 2 tapes left and the ones that are showing arent bad at all. They only itched every once and a while. Good Luck
  25. Well I made it. Not as bad as I feared, but not as easy as I hoped. I had the surgery at 8:30 AM and then was home by 12:30 PM. I've been walking every 10 minutes every two hours for the last 24 hours. Does anyone know how much longer I should continue to do this or is it just for the first day home? Also I'm tolerating the nausea very well, I am sucking on ice chips and sipping zero powerade. Surgeons office suggested starting the clear protein shakes today, but I'm thinking about just keeping to clear broth clear liquids did anyone else do this for the first couple of days?
