  1. I decided to enter maintenance after a DEXAscan. I thought I had about another 10-15 lbs to go, but my body fat according to the scan was 22%, and the technician said no - it was time to think about stopping. My PCP said the same thing. She doesn't like her older patients (which is evidently me...) dropping too low and having no cushion if/when they get sick. So I started coming up on calories until I found my "sweet spot", which for me is in the 1500-1700 range. As long as I stay within that range, I can maintain my weight. If I have more than that more than a couple of days a week, my weight starts inching up. So it's trial and error. Keep in mind, though, that most of us (not all....but most) do have a 10-20 lb bounce back after we hit bottom, so you may want to account for that when deciding where to stop. It's not inevitable, but it does seem to happen to the vast majority of us.

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Almost 2 years to the day separate these photos. Me at 406lbs on Memorial Day 2017 in the pic to the left. I started my diet and exercise journey the day after Memorial Day 2017. I lost 88lbs through diet and exercise, then had VSG surgery on 12/11/17 and got down to 220lbs by August 2018. I added 5lbs back in muscle with my weight lifting routine, and just had skin removal surgery on 5/2/19. Currently sitting at 225lbs on the pic to the right. Still a bit swollen and healing from the skin removal surgery. Guy's over 400lbs, IF I CAN DO THIS, SO CAN YOU!!!
  3. I got sleeved on the 20th and on my discharge plan my surgeon said I can have soilds by day 10. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten the ok that quick?
  4. I have PCOS and am having surgery 6/3. I am scared I will not be able to lose weight or that I will only lose a little. My body is refusing to let anything go. I've lost two pounds since starting the pre op diet last week. I heard people saying they lost 10-15 pounds but not me. I start full liquids tomorrow.

    Under 25 and choosing this?!

I am 19 (was 18 during surgery) and I understand what you mean; pay no mind to it, though. No one should be giving their opinions to your life weight loss decisions, especially if they’ve never cared enough to help you in your past weight loss attempts. You do you! I feel great after my weight loss surgery (I’m 2 Weeks Post-Op / Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) and if you’re serious about getting surgery, you will too! 💜

    Eating Salad

Try again at 10 weeks? I can totally relate! I had Poke bowl on my 5th week and resulted pretty much same as yours. I can now eat salad. Actually, I now enjoy eating salad coz I can eat longer, and I don't get as full quicker than if I'd eat let's say, a sandwich.
  7. I think I understand how you might have felt. I didn't have as serious anxiety attack, but did have a lot of self talk reminding myself of the greater good. Fortunately I was already on the operating table when it hit the hardest. I recall telling the anesthesiologist I was feeling anxious..... Next thing I know, I'm in recovery with my husband by my side. That was February 11, 2019 and about 45 pounds lighter.
  8. 10 months out - I HATE going out to eat or having to stop for fast food. I try my hardest not to do this mainly for bad decisions. I waste money, waste food, and dont always make the best choices. Being in the south, eating out seems to be the biggest social experience...

WAIT WHAT NO CALORIE SALAD DRESSING!

I really don't know what kind of dressing it was all I understood was it was zeros in every category except sodium and it tasted ok, I mean I can deal with it and I'm a foodie. I enjoy food a lot and I'm a great cook. I also found some coconut oil that is 10 calories for 5 pumps. Perfect for egg whites. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    I CANNOT Pee!

I (and the nurses) finally gave up at 3pm today and put in a catheter for me to have at home for about 10 days. I have yet to pee on my own since the surgery at all. When I was sitting on the toilet trying to pee, it felt like I was looking for (excuse me here) my first orgasm. Trying to relax while at the same time, use the muscle to find a way to pee. It did not work. The odd thing about the catheter now is that I feel like I have to pee each and every second. BUT if i take it out and cant pee, then that is VERY dangerous. I've been able to walk around, but it has only helped the gas pains. The gas pains in the shoulders and right side, I was NOT expecting at all. I thought it was going to be more around the abdomen.

    Roux-en-y

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Surgery 10/4/2019 Since surgery I’ve lost 56.1 lbs... So far it’s given me relief from knee pain, can finally put shoes on more comfortably (my stomach/belly has shrunk so I can reach easily now), I’m able to do more during my days physically, still unfit though, very slowly regaining strength in my legs, sleeping better. That’s just a few. Definitely not hungry.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

So what I have restrictions, so what people see me with a water bottle and so what there are things I can’t eat anymore.. Trust me, I hit my pizza quota and chocolate quota like 19 years ago.. Weight watchers 6xs.. Jenny Craig 2xs.. Adkins umpteen times.. trainers 2xs.. I FINALLY feel like the person I was suppose to be .. my surgery was only a tool.... I was prepared for the hard stuff and now I’m reaping the good stuff.. screw the food.. I chose LIFE

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

I’m just under a month from surgery and while I don’t regret it at all (even when one bite of food caused horrific pain for a week) I do agree it’s hard to be prepared for how it changes your relationship with food. I just told my mom and husband that food gives me no pleasure anymore. It’s simply nutrition. But even though it’s hard sometimes I’m working to be ok with it. Everything we do as a family or with friends has revolved around eating. It’s so hard to change that mindset. And I had a similar Mother’s Day as you, my kids are 12 and 14 and it was the first time they were unable to make me breakfast in bed. It was hard but next year they can make me an egg and a tiny piece of fruit and we are trying to find things we can do together that don’t involve food. I honestly think this is a good thing because there is a reason I had the surgery. I did try every diet including WW and exercise and could never stick with it. There was a time at the beginning that I doubted the saying “nothing tastes as good as thin feels “ but now that I can see the weight loss and wear clothes I haven’t been able to wear in 10 years I’m starting to see the other side. Find the silver lining since what is done is done.

    January 2019 Sleevers

My surgery was 01/28. Just started seeing hair loss about 2 weeks ago. It’s not too bad so far, I just hope it doesn’t continue for a long time like this.🙄 My pcp told me to keep up the protein shakes for a while and I’m taking biotin also.

    weird question

Hi, everyone I'm a newbie and I had my procedure on 17-05-2019 and yesterday it was my best friend's birthday and since she doesn't know I already had the procedure and for some reason I didn't tell her so she insisted to go for dinner in Mexican restaurant . she ordered taco as she know I love it so much and now the weird thing is that I ate half of it and then I felt like severe pain but the day has passed and she was so happy and the was the most important thing so I really so shy to ask my surgeon about the risks of this thing as he will be frustrated as he already warned me and he will never understand the relation between my friend and me so I'm asking here is there any further risks except the harsh pain as I will never do again ☺️ thank you all in advance

I haven't told anyone about my surgery

I told a couple of people, cousin and sister-in-law, along with my immediate family. I knew the word would spread with the cousin and sister-in-law. But now I regret it. The questions about my weight loss is discouraging because it’s very very slow, slower than weight watchers. 1/15/19 surgery and struggling to get to 35 lbs. Its a constant battle just like it always has been. So I’m hating the judgement as to why I don’t look like I’ve lost weight. I also told my best friend just prior to the surgery and her response was “that’s a bit extreme isn’t it?” She has since lied to me to get out of plans we made and is snarky with me. I haven’t seen her since before the surgery so I’m guessing the friendship is over. If I hadn’t told her she wouldn’t even have a clue that I did it. Now I have to face seeing all my family at an upcoming wedding and I’m sure they’ll be shocked that I don’t look any different and I’m sure the questions will come. I should have kept it to myself because now I feel like even a bigger failure.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Playing catch-up (sorry in advance for the length of the following): May Day #24 (Friday) >>> Treat Yourself: So I have 3 weddings to go to in the next few months. One next week, one in 3 weeks, and one in September. I didn't want to buy anything new for the first two weddings because I figure I still had a few more pounds to lose and didn't want to buy a dress only to have it be too loose in a month. Then on Friday I decided to eff it and just go buy something already! I mean, I lost all this weight, may as well show the bod in something that fits me properly. At the time, I was all "so what if I'm only going to wear this dress once"? Right? Right?!? Btw, Its size 00. WTF. HOWEVER... Just today I decided I'm going to stop trying to lose more weight...I think I'm done, I feel like I'm getting too small. So I guess I may just be able to wear this dress more than once after all >>> 19 Push-ups: Oooh...these push ups were a challenge for me this morning, but they're done. No squats or sit ups though. May Day #25 (Saturday) Get Grooming: Did not actually get grooming, but made appointments to do so the following week: Haircut on Monday, IPL for Wednesday, and henna my hair Friday night. 20 push ups: Did not do these on Saturday, I actually forgot to to do them as was busy running errands and preparing for a party at our place to watch the basketball game that night (GO RAPS GO! Btw, the Raptors finally going to the NBA Finals is a huge deal over here. The entire city effectively went nuts that night. And probably a respectable portion of the rest of the country too.) On another note: I reached my Weight loss Goal for May this day. I am now 127.3 lbs, which is 0.7 lbs less than how much I weighed when I first met Mr. 20+ years ago. He says I look much thinner than he remembers when we first met, hence another reason I've decided to stop trying to lose more weight. He also said he remembers my boobs being much bigger back then *cries* May Day #26 (Sunday) Create a Gratitude Log: - Um, no. (See "Start Journalling"). 21 push ups: Did 31 this day. I tried to make up for the 20 missed the day before, but only got in an extra 10. Good enough, I say. May Day # 27 (Monday) Write down what you love about yourself: EVERYTHING. (and even if I don't sometimes, I'm working on it.) No pushups - Rest Day: Thank goodness.

    Mammogram Required?

Got to agree with you there! Of course, when you get to be my age, almost every test has some sort of "caboose" to it; but I prefer finding these things out before I get to a High risk state. As an example: Chest MRI to check my aorta- Renal cysts Neck Cat Scan- thyroid nodules Multiple endoscopies- Bowing of Vocal Cords Repeated blood labs while PICC line in place- low blood iron- Iron INFUSION DEXA scan- yearly INFUSION to stave off osteoporosis worsening Mammogram- only one they found Nothing Else- what a relief! And all of these since January 2019. Trust the bailing wire I'm fastened up with lasts! LOL😝
