I feel your pain Sleepyjean. I too am having a hard time getting all my water in. Stomach pain caused by hunger is also a new concept to me. I woke up hungry this morning and got a few sips of yogurt down then I was "full". I took a nap and woke up and had a few tablespoons of soup. This went down much easier. I told my husband today that if I'm restricted like this all the time I won't need a fill! I know I'm probably still swollen from surgery, it was only 5 days ago. It's definatley new to learn what all these signs and signals from my tummy mean. Good news though! I slept in my bed last night with no problem! I was even able to lay on both sides!

Hey Justduckies, I was banded on the 1st and I saw my surgeon today. The reason for the liquid diet is because you stomach muscles don't have to work to digest it. It just passes right through to your intestines to be absorbed. Mushy and soft food, even chewed well, cause you stomach muscles to have to work. Since your band is still healing into place, you should try to make it as easy on your stomach as possible. I have been able to get most things (even meatloaf and mashed potatoes) thin and smooth (like cooked cream soup) when I blend them with liquid. When I can get the taste of the food, I don't feel so deprived. My doc has me on liquids for 3 weeks. I am so sick of yogurt smoothies and Protein shakes, but, the up side of the liquid diet is more rapid eight loss. Good luck!

Hi Sleepyjean, I packed on all this extra weight and sustained it through eating about two meals a day. I used to actually shock myself at how much I could put away at a sitting. I am also finding "hunger" painful. I usually have an ache in behind my breastbone around six in the morning that drives me to the fridge for a few sips of yogurt so I can go back to sleep for an hour or two. Unfortunately, I have over-eaten once or twice as well and the feeling is very similar to that of hunger. It will definately be a challenge to learn our bodies "new" signs, especially since we didn't do all that well listening to the "old" ones. I think I am trying to eat the same way banded. I will sit down and drink 8-16 oz of water in about 10 minutes. I don't get up unitl I am done. I do the same thing with my protein shake. I can get one in in about 5 minutes (that's 8 oz nf milk + 1oz of whey protein powder). I don't feel like I have much swelling from my surgery on Monday because I have been able to do this since Tuesday. I think if I could only do a few sips at a time, it would drive me nuts. One thing I do do is I keep my water in a lg. 32 oz container. My goal is to drink 1.5 or 48 oz daily. I made it to 40 yesterday. Today I havn't even gotten to 8 yet.--OK, I just did 8 oz. Well, that's my update for the day. I am really tired today. My son had an 8 am soccer game and I was afraid to have a protein drink before the game because what I drink usually goes through me pretty quickly and his soccer field was the farthest from the lovely out-houses today. Not getting my morning protein in seems to have made a huge difference in my energy level - even though I had one when I got home at 11 am, I still crashed and slept for a couple of hours and still feel kind of out-of-it. What is everyone else doing to get yourseves "going" in the morning?

So when this journey began I started trying protein shakes for the first time. I know why I never drank them before. They are disgusting! I have wasted more money than I care to think about with cases of ready made and cans of powder still in my cabinets. Finally, I have found the perfect protein shake for me. I put one Dole Shaker, one Chobani plain yogurt and a splash of sugar free liquid. Blend it for a few seconds in the blender and presto! A little taste of heaven! 20 grams of protein and 200 calories. Tastes like a milkshake and keeps me full till lunch. Slight warning that these are not cheap. The Dole Shakers run around $2.20 and Chobani yogurt about $1.30, so you're looking at $3.50 per shake but well worth the money! Lisa

I have also wasted on TON of money on protein products from GNC, Walmart and my doctor's office; the ONLY one I can tolerate is the UNflavored UNjury. . . add it to o.j., yogurt, milk ---> it's great; with about 21 grams of protein in one scoop.

Sleevers 15th September to 21st September Check in
2late4bed replied to knzt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery date was September 17, so tomorrow is my surgiversary, too. So far I've lost 34 pounds. I would NEVER have been able to lose this weight without my sleeve. I couldn't even make it through the 2 week pre op diet without having a moment of weakness here and there. (I lost 10 pounds but gained 2 back during a cookout we had) Now, when I get hungry I eat but only very small amounts. For anyone curious as to what I've been eating. .....I eat the following items but not every day. Cottage cheese, string cheese, Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt (the caramel apple is to die for, lol), sugar free pudding with Unjury chocolate protein powder mixed in, Progresso Light Chicken and Cheese Enchilada soup with Unjury unflavored 1/3 packet protein powder mixed in, tuna fish, Egg beater Southwestern style egg white omelet with grated cheese , boiled eggs, and occasionally an Atkins bar or treat but usually only about once a week. I never seem to finish anything and usually put it in the fridge for later but end up throwing it out. Appetite is easily curbed with just a few bites....Also, I write everything that I eat down in a notebook along with the time I ate it and the calories, carbs, and protein. That way I can keep track of what I am eating and how many carbs and protein I'm getting. I keep my daily carbs under 20 grams a day. Well, that's about it. Good luck, everybody! -
I am going to start posting here too... Today has sucked. All i've had all day is Blue Diamond Wasabi & Soy Sauce flavored almonds. I've eaten almost the whole can but they are low carb and 6 grams of protein a serving (6 servings in a can). I am full though. LOL. Where is this carbmaster yogurt sold?? Who makes it? Im intrigued!

Stuffed Feta chicken Breasts 1 package of skinless boneless chicken breasts or tenders 1 (4 oz.) pkg. feta cheese 1/2 tsp. basil 1 tsp. pimentos or oil packed sundried tomatoes chopped 2 TBLS. Hellman's Mayo or plain yogurt 1/4 tsp. cavenders seasoning If using chicken breasts, using a knife, make a pocket cutting into the side of the breasts. Mix the feta, basil, pimentos or tomatoes, mayo or yogurt & cavenders. Spoon into pocket made in the chicken breasts. Place stuffed chicken breasts in greased casserole dish. If any filling is left over, spoon over top of chicken breasts. Season with more cavenders. Cover casserole with foil. Bake in preheated, 350 degree oven for 35 - 45 minutes, taking foil off in the last 10 minutes of baking. If you use chicken tenders - Place chicken tenders in greased casserole & spoon feta mixture over top of tenders. Sprinkle with more Cavenders. Cover with foil & bake as directed above. I didn't have sun dried tomatoes or plain yogurt so I improvised with pimento & Hellman's Mayo. It was wonderful! I think if you rolled the chicken in some shake-n-bake it would be even better. Enjoy!

October List of Surgery's
60&goin4it replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first thing was refried beans, then I had lowfat cottage cheese, greek yogurt mixed with some unjury strawberry protein powder. I mix a little of the unflavored unjury in a lot of things. I also after I saw I could tolerate those things I had a 1/2 cup of chili. Then some tilapia. I chew everything till its creamy & eating very slowly waiting at least 1-1 1/2 min. between bites. I measure everything out in 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup so I don't eat too much. I seem to fill up faster on Chicken so I only measure out 1/4 c. A typical meal might be 1/4 c cottage cheese with 1/4 cup fish. I will drink my powerade zero 32oz with a scoop of unflavored protein powder to get more protein & still get that much of my liquids. The rest of my liquids will come from plain water. Hope this helps. instant mashed potatoes are on my third week list of foods, one of the first soft foods I can eat. I think the reasoning is that there are few truly soft foods to work with and the purpose is to get the digestive track running. Potatoes are NOT a long term option however. What else to eat for 3rd week soft foods besides mash potatoes Sent from my LGMS323 using Tapatalk -
These are some of the recommendations I got from my nutritionist this week. Hope this helps to break the monotony: 1) High Protein Milk = 1c milk + 1T non-fat powdered milk = 12.5g protein (add sugar-free hot chocolate mix, sugar-free pudding mix, sugar-free coffee syrups, or sugar-free chocolate or strawberry syrup for variety; also, mix in advance and leave in the fridge overnight for better flavor and mixing of the powdered milk) 2) High Protein Egg = 1 egg + 1T milk + 1T powdered eggs = 11g protein 3) Ricotta cheese mixed with vanilla extract, cinnamon, and/or nutmeg 4) Plain Greek yogurt mixed with sugar-free cheesecake pudding mix; 1/4c = 7g protein (cannot WAIT to try this one!) 5) chicken with Ranch = 1 can chicken mixed with 1T powdered ranch + 2T plain yogurt; 1/4c = 10g Bon appetit!

Anyone else getting sleeved in August?
1sassygal replied to Living4Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello beautiful sleevers! My surgery date is scheduled for Aug 1st. Still waiting for ins approval tho!! Some have mentioned "food funerals" and I've lol because THATS what I've been having lately. Gotta say there have been a lot of food funerals for me. Tomorrow starts the liquid diet. Even though My doctor advised the liquid diet three days prior, I want to start now because I feel I'm going to struggle with this!! I am, however, sooooo EXCITED and ready to start this new chapter. I've joined a gym for their Zumba classes and will be doing that at least 4x a week with light weight training!! I've bought GNC LEAN Protein powder!! Some yogurt and lots of Water. Have to stock up on that chicken broth and sugar free jello!! I'm hoping I can do this part. Anyone have other suggestions for this liquid diet?? -
Where are the November Sleevers?
meagain replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was Monday, the 24th, at around 1 PM. Since I had the sleeve, gall bladder removal and fix a hiatal hernia, the surgery took 2+ hours. I didn't get to my room until after 6 PM. They had me on morphine, so I was doing okay. The next morning around 9 AM, I had to go to xray to make sure there weren't any leaks. That was so tough! You swallow this crappy tasting stuff, and had to stand for them to take the xrays while the stuff goes down. I ended up having dry heaves and them telling me to try to stand still, then turn this way, then that way. It was awful! When I got back to my room they gave me a shot to help stop the nausea -- well, whatever it was made me sleep the entire day! I woke up around 5 when the doctor came in to check on me. Thank goodness I didn't have any leaks! We were expecting snow starting after Midnight on Tuesday night, so I was hoping to get released that evening. Dr. said I could go home, as long as I promised to stick with getting my fluids and keep moving around. Of course, I did, and I was home around 7:30-8:30 that night. We ended up getting 6 inches of snow during the evening into the day on Wednesday, so I was really glad I came home. The program I am on has 5 stages to get back to eating. The first week after surgery, you are allowed nothing but Clear liquids -- broth, Water, sugar free Jello and 2 Protein shakes a day. A total of 48-64 ounces of fluids a day. After I go to the Dr this coming Monday morning, I will learn if I can move to stage 2 - full liquids which includes nonfat greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, strained broths/soups, along with stage 1 items. Hopefully I will get the okay. The most surprising thing to me is that I'm not hungry like I thought I would be. And if I do have the urge to "eat", I keep telling myself, I didn't go through all this for me to go back to eating like I used to. I need to keep on track and not blow all the effort I just went through. This has helped me a lot. I finally did tell my family members about all the reasons I had the surgery. They were very supportive and quite surprised that I had the guts to do this. I'm not known in my family as being brave when it comes to pain, surgeries, etc. I wish you all the very best! I know you feel like you've been hit by a truck the first couple days, but you just keep the end result in your mind and know that it is all worth it!!! As of today, I have lost 12 pounds from the beginning of my pre-surgery diet til now. It's a step in the right direction!!! Good luck to you all!! -
Any August 2017 Sleevers?
niseys4 replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Dandelion 247! I too am 4 day post op & im experiencing simlar feelings as you are. Most of the pain I feel ,from reading what you said, is most likely from where the extra stomach was pulled out. I find that an ice pack for about 5-10 mins helps. But over all my pain has been tolerable enough I dont have to take my Norco but since i wake up at night with a pain that feels like severe hunger pains, i think tonight before bed i will take some. Hopefully i will be able to get a good nights rest! Today I managed to get down a little more than 24 oz of water & 60gs of premier protein drink. Plus I had 4 oz of warm chicken soup. Since I able to eat yogurt & cottagae chesse. I might try those tomorrow. Im glad you mention that being patient & not letting this be a weight loss race. That good advice. I convinced myself to only weigh 1 week at a time. I weighed myself yesterday just out of curiousity & im down 8 lbs since the day of my surgery! I want make sure i slow down some so my skin wont get to flabby before i can get back to the gym! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app -
You have lost almost 20 lbs and that’s great!!! What are you eating right now? Have you added to liquids? Are you staying in a calorie range? I had surgery on the 2nd and after week 1 could add drinkable yogurts and runny soups blended.. 60-80 g of protein and a 600-800 calorie range. I noticed I didn’t loose the first two days (was even up) of adding the soup and yogurt. Maybe you are just adjusting?
-
Maybe not enough protein is the issue. I would follow what your surgeon recommends, they should have given you a very specific plan. Greek yogurt is good and has a lot of protein but the protein drinks are really the best way to get it in right now.

Yes, I buy premade meals. Another member recommended the Real Good Food brand. They have a lot of high protein low carb foods that you can throw in the microwave. I also do the high calorie, high protein premier protein bars. As mentioned, they are high calories but have tons (30grams) of protein. I don't find myself hungry very often so these work great as a meal for me. I will also do foods I dont have to cook like deli meats, cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruits. Happy Birthday! Mine is on Sunday the 11th. I had ricotta cheese, butternut squash soup, mashed up avocado, yogurt and cream of potato soup. It has all stayed down so far I am just starting week 2 of my pureed foods.

I'll be hitting the year mark on the 29th. I FINALLY started feeling a bit better about a month ago. I can finally eat more than yogurt without pain/getting sick. So, SO thankful. My first few months, I was creating such good habits - cooking every night, eating healthy stuff. When I started feeling like death in February, all that went out the window because all I could eat was soft foods like yogurt, cheese, or milk. So, here I am, nearly a year out, and I have to start over trying to create the healthy habits. And for some reason it seems harder now than right after surgery, but I'll do it. Now that I can eat, my loss has slowed. I'm up and down a lot, still about 1-2# down in a month. I'm down 135 total, 114 since surgery. Lost 90% EWL and am down to a 26.7 BMI. I'm now a 12/14 (depending on the brand), down from a 24/26. But I still look super flabby. We'll see how it all shakes out now that I can actually eat.

Welcome Heidi. You have come to the right place for sharing or should I say over sharing. Lol. I think anything goes in here since we are all in it together and here to support. New thing for me. Let Greek yogurt get room temperature. Add 3oz Water so it's thinner than a milkshake and eat. 5 times a day. 60 Protein and extra 15 oz Fluid. I'm going to get bored soon. I just need the food dreams to stop. Lol Just keep swimming swimming swimming. -
Different plans seem to have some differences in what’s considered a liquid or a purée. I’ve heard that some plans consider yogurt a liquid, and some people are even allowed to eat yogurt while still in the hospital. I couldn’t have yogurt until purées (1 week post-op). And I couldn’t have eggs until soft foods, but I didn’t even try them until I was almost 3 months out because I’ve read that a lot of people don’t tolerate them early on. Fortunately, I haven’t had any problems with scrambled eggs. I’ve read that adding cottage cheese to scrambled eggs make them more tender, so I add 1/2 ounce cottage cheese to 1 egg.

once I open a can of pumpkin puree, I use it pretty quickly. I'll make pumpkin protein shakes, pumpkin protein muffins, and pumpkin yogurt out of it. It really doesn't have any taste (unless you add spices, of course), so it's great for adding moisture (and fiber) to things.. -

Georgia, stop in the grocery store. Grab a yogurt or applesauce that are in the tubes so you can eat on the go.
