7 weeks post op plateau HELP!

Just to give you a picture of what I was eating around 7-8 weeks post-op to get my 100 grams of Protein in: Breakfast: Protein shake or bar Morning Snack: reduced fat string cheese Lunch: 2-4 oz. of meat Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt Dinner: 2-4 oz. of meat Evening Snack: protein shake or bar
  2. @@NewAngela - We're pretty close in terms of surgery dates (3/16 here) and I've found I can only have celery chopped up very small, as suggested above. Costco sells these amazing chicken salad cups made with greek yogurt instead of mayo that are 14g of protein for a 1/2 cup serving and have a small amount of celery. It's nice to have that little bit of crunch and I haven't had any dumping because of it. If making it smaller doesn't help, I'd hold off for a little bit. 2 months out is still pretty close to be having a lot of fibrous foods. I was told to wait at least 3-4 months before trying to add them in any significant amount.

    Sauces

you can also make a version of a greek sauce (taziki?) with cottage cheese grate some cucumber so it's mush and mix with cottage cheese, dill, lemon juice, garlic, and salt to taste. You can mix in some plain greek yogurt for some Protein sorry for not giving the amounts I never write them down. You can pretty much do as much or as little as you want of the ingredients
  4. One year ago today I began intentionally working to improve my health. Today I am 80 pounds lighter, I am off on my medication, and I feel really good. I've had to buy all new clothes, and I'm exercising more than I have in years and I'm actually enjoying it. All is well right? Well I'm still on my CPAP machine. And I am in another 20 pounds or so from my goal weight. I'm five months from my actual surgery day and since then I've lost 40 pounds. But in the last month, I've lost zero. (I have not gained any weight in that time but just stayed right around the same). My Water and Protein is within my clinics recommendations. I'm exercising quite a lot. The thing that I'm struggling with is grazing when I'm at home especially in the evenings I tend to nibble on while I am cooking dinner for my family. The things I eat are nuts, apples, oranges, Jerky, toast here in there, cheese, yogurt, etc. my clinic hasn't told me to be completely carb free. Instead they have told me to focus on eating protein first. This is what I do for the most part. At my last check up a month ago my care providers all seemed very happy with my progress. But I'm feeling discouraged mostly fear that I am wasting this valuable window surgery has created. Am I being ridiculous? Because truthfully I haven't felt this good as I do right now in 15 years plus. At the same time I know I haven't been 100% perfect all the time on the diet rules and so I'm terrified that I'm sabotaging myself. Help me get out of this all or nothing black-and-white thinking. Much love thanks for your help.

    October List of Surgery's

@@anewme2015 I know what you mean, snacking seems to feel better on my stomach than meats & meals which I don't seem to be able to eat much of, always go back to soft foods for me, which may or may not be the best. Greek yogurt is a staple as cottage cheese along with my daily protein shake with coffee. I also eat a lot of chili & soups. Frozen 80 cal fudge bars I love! The trouble I have is we have a lot of company since we live on the lake & I'm always buying chips etc. for them! Need to stop, because what ever is left over when they leave if they don't take it, I munch on!!!! I don't like to waste sadly, the clean your plate & all the starving kids syndrome i still struggle with. Our appetites are coming back & the more you eat of carbs, sugar etc. we will want! Still a struggle!!!!! @@kaitlynm Your weight loss has been really good!!! I think your right about the protein, its so hard to get enough! I forget to use the protein powders in stuff & I have the unflavored! I guess I need to set it out where I can see it to remind myself!!!
  6. I had my surgery on April 26, so I'm a newbie too, but I thought I'd give you my take. For me, cream of chicken soup would not have worked right out of the gate. I tried some homemade cream of mushroom around 6 days post-op, and it did not sit well with my stomach. For me, the things that have gone down easiest have been sugar free pudding, light Greek yogurt, and Protein shakes. If you still feel yuck today, maybe start with just liquids. As important as protein is, not getting dehydrated trumps it. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  7. So I had my mini gastric bypass surgery on April 30th. Due to some complications I had to stay the the 3 nights following in ICU and the 4th night at the hospital's normal room and was discharged yesterday. For 4 days I had absolutely no oral intake what so ever. Yesterday and the day before I was already starting to feel really much better and had no symptoms at all (which now I think was due to the heavy medications) in fact I was feeling really hungry in the last two days. The dietician pass by me early yesterday and said I can start on Clear liquids (Water, apple juice, Jello and clear broth) and should stick to that for 3 days. Following that I should move into heavy liquids (Soups, milk juices and yogurt). My surgeon however later said I can skip that and can start with heavy liquids as long as I can tolerate it. Happy was I went straight ahead and had cream of chicken Soup right after discharge. I wasn't really sure when was I full so after having half the bowl decided to stop. Had some apple juice 2 hours later. Had my Vitamins and went to bed. Woke up with some abdominal discomfort and really heavy and bloating. massive diarrhea. Today I am still feeling bloated and unable to take anything in orally. Diarrhea still there and I feel abdominal discomfort and really extremely lethargic. So what should I do to ease this and regain some energy back? Should I just force my self to some liquids? Also my hair started to fall off really bad. Bought some hair vitamins along with the special Bariatric vitamins but even the smell of vitamins gets me nauseous.. Any help with that?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What's your comfort food?

I eat a Japanese potato is very different then a potato that was my dinner. I'm 14 mo out and I still can't eat much. Pizza, pasta, rice bread makes me so full I feel like I explode if I eat it, so I don't. Meat, chicken, fish comes up after 5 min, sweets give me severe dumping. So I'm left with nuts, beans, zucchini, salad, avocado, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. What a heck???? Sorry I'm venting

    Purées

I didn't have a puree phase, but I ate (and still eat) a lot of geek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, refried Beans, chili, Protein pudding, etc. Everything tastes better with melted cheese on top (except maybe the Greek yogurt). A lot of folks like The World According to Eggface's ricotta bake. It wasn't one of my favorites. What does your NUT suggest?

    Junk Food!

Thank you, thats the other problem is never knowing if I eat enough, my typical day (without any screwups) consists of greek yogurt (80 cals) for breakfast, Protein shake (150 cals) between breakfast and lunch, greek yogurt (80 cals) for lunch, slices of cheese (160 cals) between lunch and dinner, and then whatever for dinner, whether its another yogurt because I have a new found high liking to it, mashed potatoes, or Soup (80-160 cals) and then I will drink 2-3 cups of coffee (16-24oz each) with fat free half, and a 24oz bottle of Water if I remember to drink it. So about 600-700 cals a day.

    Junk Food!

So I only had surgery on March 1, 2016. I am down 51lbs but seem to be veering off track. I am having a hard time with chocolate. I can not stay away from it, if I see it, I eat it. Same also goes for other foods. If I am home for dinner I eat whatever is put on the table to some extent. For example tonight, it was breakfast for dinner, french toast, eggs, home frys, and bacon. Well about 6 pieces of cubed homeys, 2 slices of bacon, and a scrambled egg I walked away. That is still unacceptable. The other night it was chicken wings, 4 chicken wings later I got up. I don't get what is so hard to stay away from things. When I am working things are fine, I pack yogurt, protein shake, some cheese, and a sugar free pudding and thats my days worth of consumption until dinner. I also have a hard time getting my liquids in, I think this may be the reason why I get light headed quite often when I stand up. I am 5'6 196lbs and before surgery when I was at 250 it never happened. Any suggestions, hints, tips, etc, anything, especially for the eating??

    Baby after WLS?

I had 3 children after my surgery. I had my surgery in 1996 Those were the days of opening you up no laparoscopy in those days. They kept me in the hospital an entire week. I found out I was pregnant made an appointment with my surgeon he chuckled and said be sure to take your Vitamins. That baby was born in 1998, she is 17 I was 39. My next baby was born in 2000, she is 15, I was 41. My last baby was born in 2002, she is 13 now, I was 43. All my girls were born healthy full term. I ate carefully. After my surgery I became lactose intolerance so I had to work harder to find dairy products I could eat. I can have small amounts of yogurt, cottage cheese and couple different types of cheese. My pregnancies after my WLS were a walk in the park compared to before my WLS. Just so you understand the how resilient your body is I had six children before. So after WLS it brought the number of my brood to 9 children. And I am still married to their father, we have been married 30 years this June. If anyone wants to know more about this feel free to message me or I will try to answer any questions posted in comments. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I'm 3.5 weeks post op and I have my first business trip tomorrow. Fortunately it's a 24 hr trip to DC (I live in Boston), and it's significantly shorter and time and distance as compared to my usual trips overseas. Nonetheless, I'm worried not about what I'll eat, but about STAMINA. I'm friggin' EXHAUSTED. DEPLETED. Just so, so tired. I'm getting Protein and liquids in, but I go to bed at 7:30 every night. I know I'm still healing but I just feel so tired. Since I can't bring my Protein shake through security, my plan is to drink on the way to the airport, get a Greek yogurt and big bottle of Water at the airport, nap on the plane, and I built in time for a nap before my work event tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed I can make it through this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Can you have oatmeal? I occasionally make the weight control oatmeal and add Protein powder an/or PB2. My latest concoction is a packet of carnation no sugar added breakfast essentials chocolate and chocolate PB2. You probably won't be able to eat it all at once. I live on tuna, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, turkey, cheese, etc. To up calories try adding a piece of fresh fruit, berries, etc. You just may need to eat more frequently.
  18. try boneless skinless chicken thighs, they are a little more fatty than breasts but i can tolerate them pretty well! another favorite is plain greek yogurt, cool whip, some mashed fruit (usually peaches for me) and splenda or honey for a little sweetness. works great for any meal when your feeling tight but still has some great protein! tuna fish find a protien shake that you like. and Protein bars. i like cliff bars Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App
  19. My go-to foods at fast food are usually things like a grilled chicken sandwich minus the bun or even a hamburger minus the bun if need be. For packaged foods, I rely probably a bit too heavily on Protein bars, but still if you are going pre-packaged, you could do a lot worse. I use Combat Crunch bars, which are available at GNC (Cinnamon Twist is my favorite), but a LOT of people on BariatricPal use Quest Bars, which are becoming more and more widely available ever day. I saw some at a gas station the other day! And they are available at pretty much every grocery store now. I used to LOVE them, but they changed out one of their main ingredients and now they make me SUPER gassy, unfortunately. Anyway, if you are looking for Protein Bars, make sure you get low carb. Some of them have a TON of carbs. Stay away from fruit and nut-style bars like Kind. And Lara Bars and Clif Bars are also full of carbs. You want to look for something with maybe in the 3-10 net carb range (subtract the Fiber and sugar alcohols from the total carbs to figure out net carbs). Other quick things are greek yogurt, cheese, turkey sticks (like beef sticks but with turkey), turkey Jerky, and nuts (but go easy on those, they are high in fat and calories). You can get individual serving packs of seasoned peanuts from Lance at a lot of convenience stores. I love them! They have flavors like BBQ, Ranch, Jalapeno Cheddar... they make a great, quick snack.

    Anyone tried Quark?

I finally tried it - two flavors. It's better than yogurt (which I hate), but still not great. The sweetener they use (Erythritol) has a very distinct "diet" flavor, if that makes sense. Though adding fresh strawberries to the strawberry flavor helped a lot! I also threw the red velvet one in the freezer to see if eating it frozen will help.

    Scared out of my mind

@@haleymarie - what does your diet consist of? My liquid diet includes Soups, broth, yogurt, Jello, shakes, unlimited steamed or raw vegetables (NO DRESSING OR SAUCES) and skim milk. Yesterday, I reinterpreted the diet to include thinned out sugar free pudding. :-) I added something called GENEPRO medical grade Protein. It has 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It is odorless and tasteless and didn't even change the consistency of the pudding. I have been having a very difficult time getting down the shakes so wasn't taking in enough protein or calories and this is helping me tremendously. Thanks to this Protein powder, I met my calorie/protein requirements yesterday and I did not feel exhausted and nauseous. Now I am sure some experienced VSGers will tell you 100 reasons why this protein powder isn't "good enough" or "preferred" but right now, I have to get thru this and if a 60 calorie cup of thinned out protein 2x a day is getting in my protein requirements, I'm just peachy with it!
  22. I am 2 weeks into my pre op diet. Doing well until last night...I had fish for dinner which is ok but had waay too much white rice followed by two apples and two Dannon Light and Fit yogurts. I was not even hungry. Need to get this "head hunger" under control.
  23. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of Protein shakes 3 times a day with 1 Greek yogurt snack, sugar free Jello, and broth. I started early by drinking 1 shake per day for 3 days, then 2 shakes per day for 3 days, then the 3 per day just so I could work up to it. It was still difficult the first 3 days of it, but not as bad if I had not prepared. I'm 1 week post-op now, and still on this diet for 1 more week. I am going to be so glad to see pureed food lol. But I have lost 40 lbs so it pays off. Good luck, and I don't think it's stupid. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
  24. I am 2 weeks post op, i eat yogurt in the morning or afternoon u can mix a little Protein in that. Also if u have vanilla protein u can mix with fair life milk maybe add a bit of fruit for taste. Or i love vanilla protein, milk, a little coffee, and ice blend it and its a vanilla frap and it will keep u more awake. I went back to work on Monday had 2 weeks off.... After i got home yesterday i felt like a bus ran over me, but today i feel a lot better. Buy some prenatal Vitamins they are great for hair and nails. I am going to take 1 Multivitamin in am and prenatal at night. I was disappointed yesterday cuz in week one i lost 17lb and week 2 i lost about 1lb huge difference.... I was bummed but my RN told me that sometimes the body needs to process what's happening and then it will follow. Good luck! Stay strong u can do it!!! Dasha
  25. I'm on stage 4 as well and I admit I have this problem too I also find that I don't lose weight as fast when on solids vs. liquids/puree. So some days I try to do mostly liquid proteins/greek yogurt etc instead of 3 solid meals a day because it helps me lose weight faster and I get my liquids in easier as well. I am sure I'm going to have to get used to eating solids daily at some point, but it's a struggle and I play with it every day because some days I can tell my body won't tolerate solids but as the others said just keep track of try to get it anyway you can. My go tos are Fairlife milk in my morning smoothie and I try to drink Isopure couple times a day diluted with crystal lite or Syntrax nectar slightly so I'm getting about 60 grams of Protein a day from that as well as getting some fluids Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App
