    Day 6 Post Op

I met with my nutritionist this morning. She gave me a packet with some conflicting information from the original packet. She said basically anything with that "greek yogurt texture" should be good. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

@@bcostasbiggs - I drank a premier Bananas & Cream (30 g) this morning and it took about an hour to drink. I have been eating yogurt and cheddar broccoli soup with unflavored protein. It's actually easier for me to do the soup, shakes and yogurt than drink water. I've only got 12 oz of water over the last 3 hours. I love water but sometimes it hurts when it goes down.

    Pre op liquid diet

No just the liquid diet for 3 weeks. They are more concerned about the liver shrinking. I've stuck to it pretty good. Out of these 3 weeks I've only had two days that I slipped up and ate something solid. The rest of the time I've stuck to the Protein shakes, Soups, yogurt and such Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Hey guys, I'm about 5 weeks post op and I find that I'm very tired all the time. I sleep at night, but have trouble getting up in the morning and lack motivation to get out of bed. Before surgery I was doing amazing: getting up early and hitting the gym 4-5 times a week. I'm lucky if I make it 2 times now. FYI I'm still mostly liquid for diet with occasional yogurt. Thoughts? Breakfast ideas.

I usually just have coffee (surgeon approved) with Fairlife milk for Breakfast, and then will have a small meal midmorning. My favorites are: - One scrambled egg on Wasa or IKEA's brand of crispbread. Sometimes I'll spread half of a Laughing Cow on the crisp bread and scramble the other half with the egg. - smoothie made with plain Greek or Bulgarian yogurt that is high in Protein and low in carbs (Fage, Trader Joe's brand, or White Mountain are the brands I use the most) with either a cup of fresh peaches (12 carbs) or a serving of frozen fruit, and some chia seeds. - Chia pudding. I make it with one cup of Fairlife milk, 1/4 cup of chia seeds, and two tablespoons of sugar free Torani syrup, and then let it set overnight. - pancake bites made with high protein pancake mix. The recipe is on The World According to Eggface blog. This is usually a Sunday morning treat.

    First week after surgery

My surgeon advocates for 2 weeks liquids (anything you can fit through a straw), then two pureed. I have pretty much stuck to this but admit I have also had some Greek yogurt and cottage cheese but chewed both well until they were Fluid in my mouth before swallowing. The idea of the liquids is to stop you from stretching the pouch prematurely with whole foods and of course reduce the chance of blockages given the swelling. So if you are bored of liquids sure have some yogurt or creamed cottage cheese, but make sure it well "mixed" and fluid like in your mouth before you swallow.

1 egg omelet with bacon and cheese is my favorite breakfasts Quest bar or Natures Valley Protein Bar when I'm in a super rush Huevos rancheros sans tortilla..... Refried Beans, egg, cheese and green chilis. I make a crustless quiche out of eggs, unflavored Protein Powder, turkey, spinach, cheese and mushrooms. The protein powder kind of stiffens up the quiche so I can cut it into squares, freeze them, and then pop in the microwave for a quick, easy breakfast. I do the same with protein pancakes (just add extra eggs and unflavored protein powder to Kodiac Cakes mix)....make a big batch, freeze them and pop in the microwave for 30 seconds. Bobs Red Mill 10 grain hot Cereal two ways...."sweet" by adding vanilla protein powder and blueberries, or "savory" with unflavored protein powder, cheese and Hormel bacon pieces. Greek yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Cereal or All Bran cereal (gotta have my fiber!)

Yep, what @@Christinamo7 said - eggs any style, a slice of whole grain toast with lite butter - Fiber enriched or Protein enriched breads are better. Whole grain/low sugar cereals with organic 1% milk. Low sugar oatmeal - fiber enriched or protein enriched are better. Fresh fruit. Lowfat/low sugar yogurt - greek yogurt a bit better. Some people seem to like homemade yogurt and fruit smoothies.

    Amount of food.

I was told the same thing 3-4 oz of food, stop when you feel the restriction. I have a Protein Shake or yogurt or an crustless quiche for breakfast. The recipe is below http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/easy-cheesy-crustless-quiche/

the plans are all different, so please refer to your plan package. For me, on week days I have either a scrambled egg on one slice of oat bread toast or scrambled egg with cheese and turkey sausage. Weekends I have more time for maybe a poached egg - or some other such. but breakfast can be oatmeal with Protein powder - deli meat and cheese - yogurt -

It depends on what stage you are in. I am in the "normal" food stage and I drink protein shakes or have yogurt or have a crust less breakfast quiche.
  13. I'm a little confused by what to eat when I start pured food on Day 8. My instructions from my Dr. are very short. Just says: Foods that are ok & don't need to be pured - yogurt, oat meal, cottage cheese, baby food, hummus, refried Beans. It tells me to keep drinking 48-64 oz of fluids and my goals are 800-1200 calories and 75 or more grams of Protein. Does that mean you can eat other things too, as long as you blended/pured and tolerate them? Or just stick to the above list. There are so many people doing different things. What has worked for others at this stage? Thanks in advance! Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

    First week after surgery

Wow, I thought my doctors were strict. They say all of hose things trying to keep you from any discomfort. I just tried little bitty bits of things to see if it would bother me. Nothing has so far. Good luck. But around day 7... I had Greek yogurt. Even washing my hair was wearing me out. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Day 8 of pre op liquids

Hang in there!! Don't give up the worst has past. Ask your surgeon if there is anything else you can eat. I know mine allows non-starchy vegetables and/or plain yogurt.

    My Surgery Tomorrow is OFF!

@@New life 2016 - you are also going to need to eat differently after they look at that tooth and you may be able to do a modified pre-op type diet as well. Greek yogurt has good bacteria you will need to help with the penicillin they are going to pump into you. This type of dental issue can be very serious follow the doctors orders. Be safe and healthy first then do surgery...
  17. I'm 16 weeks out and my primary Protein source is still shakes. I can tolerate shrimp, eggs, lean steaks, yogurt and cheese.. I can not stand Chicken!! I had my Vitamin levels checked and the only issue was my Iron is low. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Had a yogurt this morning for a snack - a Siggi's mixed berry. It's about 5oz. I could really feel the restriction...YAY! Someone brought in those softball sized blueberry muffins from BJ's - the kind with the large crystals of sugar on the muffin top.... but I don't need them for my muffin top. They did look a little tempting though....see how easy it would be to go down the slippery slope into Carbville and never emerge?! Lunch is going to be some chicken salad....Need to try to eat slowly. It's hard to make it last more than 10-15 minutes though. Today I'm shooting for 20!

one week post op general questions!

    1. You should only be doing "birsk walking" to start out. I wasn't cleared for more intense exercise until 2 months post-op. You should discuss this restriction with your surgeon. 2. That guy is an idiot! Of course you should be drinking Protein shakes while you recover. None of us are working out in the first few weeks post-op. Some people never work out at all. But we all need to get our protein in and shakes are the only way to do that in the early months! 3. You should have been given a food stage schedule by your surgeon or nutritionist. At one week out I was on "full liquids" which included protein shakes, strained cream Soups, and yogurt. 4. There is speculation on whether sleeve size affects how much weight on can lose and how hard it is to maintain, but the conventional wisdom is that long term results are pretty consistent across the board and that slight differences in sleeve size don't really matter.

    Loving the new me!

@@darima77 I think you DEFINITELY need more water. You should be aiming for 64 grams a day. And don't waste room on crackers and pretzels (I wasn't even allowed those until 3 months post-op). Focus on protein first. Not just shakes, but real food with protein. I assume you are cleared for solid foods now if you are already eating crackers and pretzels? If so, you should be incorporating some meat in there. Here's a general idea of what I was eating at about 40 days post-op: Breakfast: protein shake Morning Snack: string cheese Lunch: 2-3 oz. of meat, usually leftover from dinner Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (only Greek yogurt I could stand the taste of) Dinner: 2-3 oz. of meat Evening Snack: protein shake With that plan, I was able to get close to my goal of 100 grams of protein a day. The "meat" listed above was usually whatever meat my husband was having with his dinner. Pulled pork in BBQ sauce, meatloaf, shrimp, sausage, indian style chicken prepared int he slow cooker, chili... I usually tried to do ground, pulled, or very tender meats, not just like a steak or piece of grilled chicken. Super dense meats were still hard for me to eat a lot of. So softer meats in some sort of sauce were usually easier.
  21. I made it the 5 days! As of this morning I am down to 189.6 - it's the lowest weight I've seen on the scale since starting this weight loss journey. I am very excited. Surprisingly even though I can have food today, I am not starving. Going to have a protein shake for breakfast later and will then have a yogurt for a snack. @@proudgrammy this is your day 5.....you can do it! I had a dream last night that I was so swollen it was like I had an allergic reaction and that when I stepped on the scale it read 259lbs!!! Ok it was more of a nightmare. I woke up thinking....am I really 259lbs??? What is strange though is that my pants that normally fit me fine are a little tight. I'm definitely a little bloated this morning. It's almost that time of the month and last month it was virtually non-existent. How weird would it be if after five days of liquids I was retaining water??!! Still....it was a loss and I will take it! I'm considering it a win/win.

Doing pretty good. I slept in my bed last night 10 p - 5 a. I'm going to try really hard to get my water in today. The shakes and yogurt go down so much better than the water. I weighed to 218.0 today which is less than surgery weight, looking forward to the scale moving. I haven't had a bowel movement since Thursday., but I've been passing tons of gas.
  23. I opted to stay on Protein drinks only for the first 4 weeks. I figured that doing so would allow my new stomach to heal. I also did not trust myself to open up the door and invite pureed stuff in. I knew that it wouldn't take much for me to skip yogurt and go to ice cream. Even now, at 6 months out....I can go on a liquid only diet for 2-3 days and come out of it really feeling my restriction. I'm grateful for my restriction, too. Knowing it's there in case I break down and cheat is comforting. For what it's worth.....it took me a bit over 2 months before I reached that "normal" state again.....the state where I'd allow myself to enjoy the flavors of stuff I'd cook or grill. I became a carnivore.......a T-Rex sized carnivore that took only tiny portions to fuel. You will certainly get there. It's coming. You are in the tough days of the sleeve experience, in my opinion. Everything will get very easy really soon. Hang in there and know that good changes are coming.
  24. I skipped the puree stage and just stayed on Protein shakes during that time. I kept reading about the dreaded 3-week stall from many posters. I also see what some of them were eating during the pureed stage and could't help but see a correlation. Too many carbs for what my goals were. I knew there were certainly healthy pureed choices that I could have....but I just was scared to open that door.....yogurt one day may lead me to ice cream the next. lol. I just didn't trust myself enough to go there. I'm simply being honest. If I had it to do all over again.....I'd proceed in the same way as before. That 4 weeks....following the 2 weeks of pre-op Protein Shakes only....that month and a half really helped me cement the changes in how I viewed food. I was done with cravings....done with food as an answer. All I wanted was to burn off as much fat as I could and take in the fuel that my body needed...not what my mind may be compelling it to do. The sleeve is a powerful tool for weight loss.....but I see now that it's only there as a parachute when we lose our willpower. Our minds are the most effective tool we have....but not always in the game, obviously. I do feel that we gain considerable mental toughness as a result of our wls. I'll bet that many of us could take our post-op mental strength......and lose considerable weight without the wls......and keep it off. I really do. It's that toughness and confidence that keeps me grinning all day long.....even when job stress or other stressors conspire to steal a brotha's grin.
  25. I eased into real foods by eating yogurt (carbmaster line from kroger), drinking high Protein milk (Fairlife or Mootopia) and baked fish. Oh and cheese and refried Beans. I tried eating scrambled egg and threw it up until about 4 months out. I'd suggest you just eat ONE teaspoon of something that sounds and tastes good (while still being on your list of okay foods of course), wait about 10 minutes, then try another spoonful. Only do this for one meal a day until you can work up to a few ounces for that meal. Then start adding spoonfuls to other meals. Your stomach hasn't had to deal with solid food for a while now, so you need to baby it. Take it ridiculously slow.
