Loose Skin After Surgery At 20 Years Old

I am in my mid/late 40s and I wish I hadn't spent so many years yo-yo dieting and hating myself. When I was in my 20s, people were still getting their jaws wired shut to lose weight. If you have been overweight for a period of time and are willing to do the work, much of which is in your head rather than your stomach, then go for it. If you are 255 pounds at age 20, you would probably benefit a lot from the surgery rather than battling this demon for another 10 years. Heck, keep those years of your life. As a yo-yo dieter, I can tell you that for me, skin was much more forgiving when I was younger. But the loose skin is a small price to pay for being more normal in size.

    Oh sh*t!

Just ate my last supper before preop diet tomorrow. Makes it so real, it's freaking me out. Surgery day is thurs 10/3. I have 4 days of nothing but clear liquids. I'm scared of messing it up and ruining my surgery so I will be strong. My hubby is doing it with me believe it or not! Isn't he the best! Well see how long it lasts before we kill each other lol. So I just have to cook for my 5 year old. I've noticed a lot of us our going this week so good luck to us all and best wishes for speedy recoveries!
  3. I have a 9cc band that is what my Dr's almost always use. I had my first fill on 11/10/06 and had a 4cc fill. My Dr does not do fill during surgery and will not do them for 6 weeks post op. My next fill appointment is 12/22/06 to see if I need more. So fare so good. I feel restriction and I think it is the perfect amount. Of course what I loose for weight will determine that. What size band do you have? How much of a fill do you have at a time and how much fill is in you now?
  4. Surgery date : 8/16/2013 Pre surgery : 287 Surgery day : 251 Now : 180.1 Height: 5'4'' Just a little over 100 lbs down and I've been struggling to loose weight for about a month now. I've tied changing my work outs and swimming more but it hasn't helped because I find myself more hungry after swimming. I also have started taking more vitamin D and I feel like with all the vitamins , b12, and other meds it's just been very stressful to be stuck at the same weight for so long ... Any else struggle at this mark ..... Thanks for any support - Lissette

    I've already lost 9 pounds

Yes I cannot wait to start my Options class our class is a big class there's 30 people in it. It was the soonest class that was starting so of course everybody wanted it same thing with me the next one didn't start till April 7 and then one started in May.. They basically told us that during the 12 weeks you do all your preop's and lose your 10% then when you're finished with the class usually it takes about 1 to 2 weeks to get an appointment with the surgeon and then within a couple weeks after that you're scheduled to have your surgery. They told me I would need to lose 14 pounds did they say what you needed to lose during your first class Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    5'4 Whats Your Goal Weight?

I'm 5'4" and my goal is 130. Although I think I'd like to get to 125 and then never go over 130. We'll see. My surgery is tomorrow. I've done very well on my pre-op diet though - I've lost 19 pounds as of yesterday.

    5'4 Whats Your Goal Weight?

I am 5' 2 1/2" ( I usually round up to 5'3 ) At the beginning of this year before I started dieting and losing weight, pre-band, I weighed 260 and wore size 24 pants, 2x or 3x shirts. I am now at 225, wearing a 22. Not much changed in size yet. My goal is about 135-145...giving myself a nice 10 pound cushion. I haven't been 135 since I was 17 years old (now mid 30's), so I'm pretty sure that will be low enough for me. I want to still have some substance to me, not be too skinny (never thought I'd say THAT! ). But once I get to that point I may want to change it. But I would love to be able to wear a size 8 or 10. Just be normal again.

    5'4 Whats Your Goal Weight?

I'm 5'4 and my goal that my doctor is cool with is just under 170. For my build, 165-170 puts me in a 10/12. If I lose more, so be it, but I'm happy in a 10/12. If your profile image is you, make sure to stick with sizes and body fat % as there have been a few studies that show BMI isn't an accurate measurement for black women. We tend to have less fat that women of other ethnicities. Good luck!

    5'4 Whats Your Goal Weight?

I am 5'8 also and really would like to be 165 but for right now I just want under 200. I was banded on 4/10 and have already lost 23lbs, so right now shotting for 195!

    Thanksgiving Freak Out

At 8 weeks I was pretty much unable to over-indulge. Now at 10 months I can a little. I suggest you do what you have been doing which is protein first, then filling the edges with healthy things. We usually have a couple healthier vegetable dishes and a tiny bit of mashed potato won't hurt anyone. Just eat the turkey and veggies. They're good for you.
  11. If you turn out to be a person like my husband and I who want to gag from the sight of a Protein shake at one month out from surgery you want more bang for your buck so to speak. I want it to have more protein so I do not have to force myself to drink as much. That is a lot of drinks to reach goal on the liquid stage with only 10 grams. Also something to keep in mind. I really liked some drinks and textures pre surgery after it was no go on those items. Gritty may not be a good texture on new tummy but then again may be perfect for you. Protein Drinks are very individual what you like everyone around you may hate. My husband and I drink very different things. I would not invest in huge quantities of anything and save samples to experiment with after as well as before to help with tastebud changes.

    Protein powder Sample suggestions?

To get samples I highly recommend Nashua Nutrition! They sell samples of almost everything they sell. If a manufacturer doesn't offer a sample, Nashua Nutrition will package individual servings out of the larger containers. Each sample was $1.95 and I ordered $45 worth of samples and got them within 3 business days. I loved that I could try such a wide variety of manufacturers and flavors without committing to a large container. I put my shipping invoice on the fridge and everytime I try a flavor or product I rate it from 1 to 10 on how I liked it. It will make it much easier later to know how well I liked each one and which ones I want to order a full size off! Good luck!

    Pain

The answer is no! I had a double mastectomy and a year's worth of reconstructive surgeries along with gall bladder surgery a few years ago. I never had too much of a problem with those surgeries. This one kicked my butt for 10 days then it was all uphill from there.

Discomort after fill and hunger Pains

@@laizaone1 That was a very aggressive fill to your band at one time! What size band to you have? 10 or 14 cc? That feeling you are getting could happen when you are putting too much in too fast. Think about a Water bottle being filled up from a running tap. Only so much can make it through the neck of that water bottle and some air builds up around it inside the bottle and you start to have some bubbles, When your drinking in large gulps or big sips of Fluid your not giving enough time for the fluid to make it down your throat and through the opening in the stoma to your larger stomach and it creates some air bubbles and can also regurgitate on you if your not careful. This can happen with food as well and food and water together can be quite an explosive return which is why you hear many Dr.s tell you not to eat and drink at the same time. It's more a problem of stacking food. One bite after the next before the first bite has cleared the stoma and into the larger stomach. Also as water is usually heavier than most foods we grind up by chewing it will sink below and under the food in your esophagus and erupt a bit like a volcano if the pressure is right. Think about your insides being a bit like that, our bodies have pressure in them and outside of them along with the added pressure of the filled band doing it's thing. That discomfort could be the pressure being forced on the walls of the upper chamber (above the band) as it tries to squeeze fluid and food through the stoma and on it's way. If sipping and waiting and then sipping again does not alleviate the discomfort I would give the Dr. a call and consider having a small amount of fluid removed to decrease the pressure on the stomach. That growling of your stomach, could be just that. Not there because of hunger and if you are not hungry do not eat. My tummy will often make noises as I digest food, and sometimes it can be a little gnawing like hunger but it's mostly just things moving around in there. If I am not hungry I don't eat. Sometimes having some water or tea will help digestion and the noise will subside. Let us know how your doing!!

    A new beginning

March 19, 2009 197.4 lbs. Today is the day...I am taking my life back. I was relying on this band to save me and that's not possible because I have to save myself. I have to take some steps to help my band, which is a tool. This is my plan: 1. Drink my 64 ounces of water 2. Eat more protein and less carbs (before 7:00 p.m.) 3. Exercise everyday for 30 minutes with a goal of 10,000 steps. I am not going to wait until Monday. I am going to start today! It's simple...drink water, eat more protein, and exercise 30 minutes. Sounds simple, right? I am hoping to release the me that's aching to be freed from this fat suit. I am going to get my hair cut today too. I was going to wait until I reached my goal weight, but no more waiting...today is the day for my new beginning. I am on my way...
  16. Somebody asked a similar question here: Here are the ones I purchased (I think I found all of these through ads on Facebook; none of these are referral links and I do not benefit in any way from them): IdealFit (IdealLean) (You can also buy individual sample size packets if you don't want this many) 1up Nutrition Northbound Nutrition Waves of Whey Strength (Unfortunately, the samples are 5 packs of the same flavor, so you'd have to buy 10 packs just to get both flavors) KetoShop (There are two different sample packs; I got the zero carb just because the flavors were more appealing to me) My favorite was IdealLean and that's my go-to brand now (I love the birthday cake flavor mixed into yogurt -- that makes for a great high-protein meal after surgery -- and the chocolate brownie is my favorite chocolate Protein shake). Once you start shopping for Protein Powder online, you'll start seeing ads for other protein powders. I've seen some appealing ones recently, but I'm all stocked up on protein powders so I'm not buying any more right now. You should look at the ingredients and nutrition info to make sure they meet your requirements. You might also want to try clear protein powders. IdealFit has some (including samples) and you can buy Syntrax Nectar samples in the BariatricPal store. They do not have the same thick texture as the shakes, so you may find them more palatable. I also recommend trying protein hot chocolate; I find it easier to drink than the cold shakes.
  17. Hi everyone I had my surgery 12/7 and I am 4 days post-op and feeling better each day. The first night after surgery was ruff because I woke up with all sorts of drains and tubes and was still under the affects of the anesthesia. I was able to get up and do one lap around my floor. I had some dry heaving and vomiting but the nurses were quick in giving me meds that stopped it. The next morning I had to get up early to drink some nasty blue substance to check for leaks in my JP tube and then I had to go to radiology for the leak study and everything was clear. After the nurses removed my catheter I was able to do two laps on my own. It took me most of the days to be able to use the bathroom but I was able to concur that to and after a few more hours I was discharged. The worst part for me has been the gas, GasX has not really helped but walking and trying to drink warm liquids have. My stomach has been making the most incredible noises and sounds I have every heard. Today the gas has not been to bad but I have been walking at least 10 minutes each hour and sipping very slowly. Yesterday is when I started my full liquid post op diet and it took me 4 hours to finish 8 oz and that was all I could handle. I sip slowly on water in between and do feel tightness if my sip is to big. Each day the soreness is better and I have a little more strength. I know this is going to be work and take time but so far so good. I got on the scale this morning have lost 8 lbs since surgery. I hope all my other December sleevers are doing well.

    Bye-bye Lane Bryant!

I have been a loyal LB shopper for about 10 years. BUT... The ladies at the LB near me are serious snobs. This has been ongoing for 3 years. and i ignore it because whats a chubby girl to do? when I went in 2 months ago I was so irritated at their behavior that i emailed corporate to complain. I went back last month because i am desperate for a pair of dress pants. They no longer carry ANY petites in their store. Thats it!!! This short girl is spending her $$ somewhere else!!! I am now an 18. I will find clothes. But never again will it be LB

    Never Again...

I will never again be kicked off a roller coaster for being to big for the seat. I was at an amusement park with my kids this summer and got booted off a ride for being too big. It was the most humiliating moment of my life. Not only for me, but for my kids too. They are 10, 14, and 16. Really tough ages to have everyone on a ride and in line laughing at your fat mom. My surgery is August 18th and next year my kids and I are planning a Roller Coaster vacation. We are going to spend two weeks traveling the country and riding the most amazing roller coasters. We live in Texas and have season passes to Six Flags, so we are planning to hit several other Six Flags Parks. The memory of that day and the anticipation of the trip next summer where I will not have to worry about not fitting on the rides is my motivation right now.

    Thinner Protein Powder?

Vitacost.com has the Syntrax Nectar about $3 cheaper than BariatricChoice.com. And you can get $10 off your first order with free shipping for orders over $20 if you sign up here. I've had good service with them.
  21. Almost 10 months out - went thru Kaiser Panorama City - but had surgery at Kaiser West L.A. really happy with the bariatric program and how it all panned out. I would never have imagined that this dream came true for me. I have been a slow loser and I am at a standstill right now, but slow and sure has worked for me. I have to really push now to try and get alot closer to goal. How about you? Have you reached your goal yet?
  22. Great timing for me to have an infected tooth! Last week I lost about 3 pounds on the preop...then over the weekend when my tooth got infected and I couldn't eat anything cause the action of opening my mouth sent me into MAJOR pain..I dropped 10 lbs. Pretty dang AWESOME! Then I had my tooth extracted on Monday and the oral surgeon told me to eat soups, yogurt and generally follow a liquid diet...I started laughing and said...no problem...I have been for the last week anyways...I then told him that I was having WLS next week and he smiled and said good for you! The infected tooth is helping me stick to my diet...not the best NSV ever...but it's pretty awesome...

    So Stressed!

Sorry so long. My boyfriend is a hoarder. We’ve been a couple for over 8 years. I used to live with him and my grown daughter in a 2-bedroom 2-bath apartment. The hoarding was getting out of control. It was the only thing we fought about. Then we got bedbugs in February 2012. For about a month I tried to get him to clean up. He would not throw anything away, bag it up and store it, or clean it. I threatened to move out and he still didn’t do anything. So I found another apartment for my daughter and me. I started packing, which took up a lot of time because of working full-time. We moved 3-24-12. Then I was unpacking and arranging, sometimes until 10 pm to midnight. My boyfriend found a place for his car and stuff, but not a place to live. So I worry about him because he is 73 and homeless. I cannot get him to get a place to live. He is a janitor and is sleeping on a couch in a doctor’s office he cleans. He baths at my house. I wash his clothes. I provide breakfast. He finds his own lunch and dinner. Yesterday I contacted his family and am waiting to hear from them. He is holding me emotionally hostage because of this. I quit exercising. I was so tired. I was so swamped I could not eat properly and ate a lot of carbs. On-sale Easter candy and I became reacquainted. I still managed to get my protein through protein drinks, but it was hard to remember liquids. I was able to keep up with supplements because I can now take pills, so I just added them to my morning and evening medications. I only had one day to rest during this entire time. Yesterday was the first time I was able to breathe. Today I am taking stock of what has been happening with my health. This was my first time of being tested by stress since being sleeved 12-19-11. I realize I have been using comfort foods to help me get through everything. I weighed 199 on 3-9-12. Today I weigh 191. I’ve only lost 8 pounds since 3-9-12, almost 7 weeks. Ordinarily I would have lost 14-16 pounds in that time. I have been an emotional and physical mess. This whole situation is completely insane to me. I’m not sleeping well. I’ve been drinking coffee and Red bull to keep up my energy. I started back exercising yesterday. I’ve learned that I can slide back into my old habits despite being sleeved. I’m trying to get back to the basics to get back on track. That means good carbs, counting calories, exercising, and getting in all my protein and liquids. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.
  24. Hi...I have surgery scheduled for the 19th...10 DAYS!!! I found this forum for some support. I am very excited to get the surgery but I am awaiting my insurance approval. Haven't heard anything from the surgeons office so I'm guessing no news is good news . Pre-Op on August 14th!!!!
  25. Hi I have had the VST surgery Feb17th and today is my 10 week postop. I started off at 329lbs and as of today I am at 263lbs. But here is what I have noticed. Post op before I went back to work I was losing a pound a day average and sometimes 2. The first day I went back to work everything stopped moving for about 10 days. Why? I thought about this and here is what I came up with. Stress, Water retention, change of environment, and sleep patterns are different. At work is a more controlled environment with high levels of stress. So I started watching for patterns. My diets the same everyday 60-90g Protein, 25-60g carbs, >25g fats. This is clockwork so this isnt the problem. After 10 days the weight started coming off again but now its at a pound every 2-3 days and it stayed this way until I went home. Upon arrival at my home I weighed myself and marked it. Then for 7 straight days there was no loss at all. Then all of a sudden 3 lbs fell off after a nights sleep. I continued to lose a pound every day or two. Before I left to come back to work I noted my weight again. This time it was 269.2. Ok once I get back on my vessel the next morning I lost 2pounds. From that point on there was nothing for another 10 days. After the 10 days I suspect my body adjusts to the changing environment and I lose the water retention, stress calms down and my sleep pattern adjusts to the 12 hour pattern. 12 hours on a boat is actually 8 hours on and off. But to conclude since the 10th day I have lost .5/day bringing me to 263 as of today. So inretrospect I can assume that stress interrupts fat loss.
